Daniel Padilla admits he wants his next role to be a superhero

 Push This

080114-daniel_main.jpgIt's been almost three years since they were first paired together in the teen-oriented show Growing Up and now, as part of the hottest lovet eam in the country, Daniel Padilla shared that he and Kathryn Bernardo couldn't get any closer than they are now. “Siguro kung umutot ako, hindi ko na kailangan magsinungaling, yun na lang. Aaamin na kaagad ako, yung ganung level na yun,” he admitted.

In his latest Star Cinema movie She's Dating The Gangster, he plays the role of a bad boy who is misunderstood by many, something he can also claim to have experienced in real life. Kathryn has been vocal about defending him in a previous interview on Push about the misconception. “Totoo naman yun, mukha lang naman akong bad boy. Grabe po ang kabaitan ko (laughs) hindi loko lang. Ano lang po ako, ganyan ganyan lang pero mabait lang ako (laughs),” he added.

Portraying the role of Kenji, the gang leader in the movie, DJ admitted it is the most challenging character he has ever been given. “Dahil dalawa yung character mo at saka ibang iba. At saka talagang mahirap ito gampanan dahil may drama. Kasi ako parehong angas yung character ko dito,” he shared.

The 19-year-old actor also admitted he enjoyed shooting their outdoor scenes in Legazpi, Albay where he had to learn how to drive a car with a manual gear shift on a national highway for the very first time. “Nag-enjoy talaga kami ni Kathryn dun sa pag-akyat sa Mayon na naka-ATV kami. Madaling araw kami umakyat nun mga 3 a.m. kasi yung eksena namin ay sunrise so kailangan namin abangan. Favorite scene ko naman siguro yung basketball scene at saka yung mga driving scene na sobrang delikado (laughs),” he said.

Even though he has already done six movies, DJ said he is not yet tired of moving on to a different genre although his dream project is more action than romance. “Parang pag rom-com masaya pa rin. Maganda ang rom-com masarap gawin at saka yung characters masarap gampanan. Pero depende din kung sino yung makakatrabaho mo siyempre at sino yung director mo. Pero ang horror din masarap naman. Pero gusto ko rin subukan maging superhero. Siguro yung tipo ni Spider-man,” he said.

(MOVIE) They Found the new LASTIKMAN; First Mars Ravelo Movie in 2017?

I attended a press conference last week for the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) and was able to talk to a long time friend who now handles talents and celebrities. He mentioned about a meeting regarding the return of Mars Ravelo’s LASTIKMAN.

Since 1968, there were three Lastikman (3) movies produced  by different movie outfits. The first was produced by Luzon Production starring Von Serna as Lastikman. This was followed by a Vic Sotto starrer last 2003 produced by M-ZET and Octo Arts; then with Mark Bautista in 2004 by Viva Films opposite Sarah Geronimo as his love interest.

Last 2007, ABSCBN produced Lastikman as one of its fantasy series offering for television starring Vhong Navarro.

It has been twelve years since a  last Lastikman movie rolled into the big screen and this year, the urge to do another motion picture is on the priority list.

According to my reliable source, Star Cinema had a meeting last week on the plan project about Mars Ravelo’s Lastikman. And the lead they’re planning to tap to continue the legacy is no other than the actor, model and dancer, Ronnie Alonte.

Ronnie Alonte is now one of the most popular names in the local movie scene right now after MMFF announces its final 8 last October. Ronnie is included in two of the movies which will open on December 25. These are Star Cinema’s “Vince, Kath and James” and Reality Entertainment’s “Seklusyon“.

Yes, this is the first time you’re going to hear about this and you are welcome. Can this be true? Could I be wrong? Well let’s see if we can see Ronnie Alonte in a black and green suit. Rod Magaru Show is open for any statement from Star Cinema.

Crossing Over featuring Ronnie Alonte
by MADEL ASUNCION 7 MARCH CELEBRITY FEATURES

Actor and performer Ronnie Alonte is as promising as they come. He sings, dances, and currently appears in a primetime series along with an all-star cast. Not to mention – his first two acts in the big screen both competed at last year’s restructured Metro Manila Film Festival. It’s apparent that the 20-year-old Hashtags member is seamlessly maneuvering from boy band heartthrob to leading man in the making.

Starring opposite Julia Barretto in last year’s Vince, Kath, and James as a varsity jock and now in ABS-CBN’s drama A Love to Last as a scholar with a down-to-earth charm, Ronnie is molding a career in acting that any aspiring teen star would hope for. But aside from his boy-next-door appeal, his role in the Erik Matti-directed thriller entitled Seklusyon (where he played Miguel, a young deacon) can also attest to an auspicious track in other genres.

Breaking into the scene (and into every teenage girl’s fantasy) as part of It’s Showtime’s boy group called Hashtags, Ronnie admits that acting was something he initially never thought of doing. “To be honest, I’m more into dancing and singing. But being in show business, people also want to see you get into acting. So sinubukan ko na lang.” He adds, “Pinasok ko na ito eh, kaya gagalingan ko na lang.”

Kicking off a solo concert tour starting in his home court Biñan, Laguna on May 20, Ronnie is set to play in the big leagues. But as we spend an afternoon with him, we find that this charmer has a genuinely friendly spirit and a levelheaded approach to his work. Here, Ronnie talks about his humble beginnings, his career bucket list, and how he formed a natural bond with co-star Julia Barretto.

Ronnie Alonte (Final)8

When did you first feel that you wanted to be in show business?
When I started doing TV commercials. I was into basketball before, pero narealize ko na pwede pala akong kumita dito. So I tried it, kahit anong makuha kong trabaho. Hindi ko lang inexpect na magtutuloy-tuloy.

When you were trying to get into show business, did you ever feel like giving up?
Oo, lalo na nung lagi nila akong pina-pack up. I started as an extra. One time bumiyahe ako ng dose oras papuntang Subic. Pagdating ko doon, pina-pack up nila ako. Siguro meron talaga siyang plano for me.
Who are the people that have helped you the most?
My cousin RB Chanco. Makeup artist siya sa ABS-CBN. Pinilit ko siya na tulungan ako. Pero at first, hindi niya ako pinapansin. Hanggang sa pinagbigyan niya ako. We didn’t expect that I could make it.
Which actors are you hoping to work with in the future?
When it comes to girls, siguro si Erich Gonazales and Sue Ramirez. Sa guys, si Robin Padilla. I also want to do comedy with Vhong Navarro and Vice Ganda.

So far what has surprised you the most in the industry?
Working with people na dati nakikita ko lang sa TV.
Your fanbase is huge. Is it something that still surprises you up to now?
How does it feel to have that much support?
Sobrang saya. Nakakatawa na nakakaiyak. I’ve only been here for a year. Thankful ako kasi of all the artists, ako yung pinili nila suportahan.
What’s your craziest fan encounter?
During my mall shows, nagugulat ako kasi people would try to go up on stage.

Does it scare you?
I’m just happy na gusto nila akong makita. (laughs)
You started with Hashtags. Do you think it helped you more to be part of a group rather than to enter the industry on your own?
Oo, sobra. I always say in all of my interviews na sumali ako sa Hashtags na ako lang yung hindi masyado kilala. I started with 2,000 followers on Instagram, and lahat sila halos 15k, 20k followers. After that, lumaki na yung following ko. I’m grateful because hindi ako makakarating dito nang ganito kabilis kung walang Hashtags.

You have a great solo ca
reer and there have been rumors that you’re leaving the group.
I hear it pero hindi totoo. If people don’t see me with them, busy lang talaga probably with another taping. Pero hindi ako aalis. Ako pa nga ang nagpupumilit kung pwede ba magsayaw kapag wala akong ibang work.
What is your pre-show ritual?

Nagpapakabaliw ako. Kaming grupo talaga – gaspangan, asaran.

Were you always comfortable in front of many people since you were young?
I’ve always been shy.

What do you love most about working with Julia Barretto?
What was your first impression of Julia?
Masungit, mataray, suplada, ganun.
How did you break the ice?

What’s your biggest challenge so far?
Acting and facing a lot of people.

How about your privacy? Is it hard to be in the public eye?
It’s hard for anyone in this industry. But hopefully they’d understand na kapag nasa bahay ako, wala munang trabaho.

Have you received advice about your line of work?
When it comes to acting, Direk Erik Matti taught me to be as natural as possible.

How does it feel that you starred in two entries at Metro Manila Film Festival?
I didn’t expect it. ‘Yun yung nagbigay sa akin ng malaking break. Masaya ako kasi dalawang malalaking director ang nag-trust sa akin. Kahit na nangangapa pa ako on set, tinutulungan nila ako and they never pressured me.

What’s your dream role?
Superhero.

Ronnie Alonte started doing TV commercials at 17. Marco Gumabao gave up his career in basketball to pursue an acting career.

Manila Bulletin Lifestyle discovers more about these talented heartthrobs during their recent magazine signing for Garage Magazine’s January issue.

“We chose Ronnie and Marco because we believe they’ll be spearheading the new batch of actors this 2017. Whether appearing on television shows or movies, Ronnie and Marco have the looks, leading man charms, and acting passion to be the next big thing in entertainment”,  says Rey Ilagan, editor-in-chief of Garage Magazine.

RISING STARS OF 2017 From left: Ronnie Alonte and Marco Gumabao during their magazine signing event; fans were excited to meet and greet their idols

How did you start in show business?

Ronnie: I started in TV commercials. At first I didn’t like it because I liked basketball more ,but when I realized how I can easily earn money through showbiz, I continued it until I booked many commercials. Then I joined ABS-CBN’s casting call auditions for Hashtags.

Marco: I started showbiz back in 2011 with Direk Bobot, who is a close friend of my mom. They were looking for a lead actor to play Miles Ocampo’s love interest. So I auditioned and eventually I got the part.

What made you decide that you wanted to be an actor?

Ronnie: Aside from the fact that I could earn more money, I really wanted to help my family and experience working.

Marco: Aside from the fact that my Dad is an actor, I wanted to be one because it’s like another experience, another field that I could try. Because when I was younger, I only played sports so acting for me was really a different thing. I was challenging myself.

If you weren’t an actor, what do you think would be your profession?

Ronnie: Maybe I’ll be a basketball player for a college varsity team.

Marco: For sure I’ll continue my basketball career, because ever since I started acting I stopped. I wanted to focus on my career.

Aside from acting, you are now a singer releasing your own song. How did you prepare for that?

Ronnie: Kanta kanta lang sa banyo (singing in the shower). Then I’ll have my voice lessons.

What else do you want to try in your career? Becoming a singer, maybe?

Marco: I don’t sing but if I was given a chance, why not. I can sing naman but I don’t dance talaga.

What do you like more, singing, dancing, acting, or playing basketball?

Ronnie: I’m more comfortable with singing and dancing.

Marco: Well now, it’s really acting because I chose acting over basketball even though basketball is my first love. I told myself that I don’t want to force myself with basketball if I’m not totally confident about it because let’s admit it, there are a lot of great basketball players out there.

What’s your reaction when people called you the “Kilig King”?

Ronnie: I’m happy.. Daniel Padilla has his own title as teen king, and Enrique Gil as well (King of the Gil). I did not expect that a simple person like me would be have the title as the kilig king because when I entered showbiz, all I wanted was to work. I did not expect the people to like me.

What’s a day in the life of Marco Gumabao/Ronnie Alonte?

Marco: When I wake up, I read the Bible. I read it every day. Then I’ll go to the gym to work out because for me, my day would not be complete if I did not work out. Then if I’m bored at home, I just watch shows on Netflix. It’s my me-time. Then I’ll go out with my friends for dinner.

Ronnie: Basketball.

What’s your reaction when people say you’re a ‘bad boy’ because of your bad boy image?

Ronnie: It’s okay for me. Besides, it’s just the outside that they see but once they get to know me, it will all change. Just like my family, they don’t see me as bad boy because they know me. What’s important is that they like me and that they accept who I am.

Marco: Well, it’s okay if it’s the bad boy image because the image is different from the personality. I’m in the middle. I could play both worlds. So I could be a bad boy if I wanted to and be a good boy if it’s what I want.

You recently held your first solo concert, how did you prepare for that?

Ronnie: To be honest, I wasn’t able to prepare for that because I had to promote two of my movies for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The concert was fast approaching so I think I only rehearsed four times. Then I was so nervous if I would be able to sell the tickets, but after two days they told me that my concert was already sold-out. Even though I wasn’t fully prepared, I gave it my all. I showed my best.

One thing people don’t know about you?

Ronnie: They know everything because I show them everything.

Marco: I’m addicted to ketchup. Yes, any kind of meal I eat it with ketchup, and hindi puwedeng wala. Even with sinigang and adobo.

What is the biggest misconception people have about you?

Marco: Maybe because I have a strong personality, people’s first impression of me is that I’m arrogant. Once you get to know me you’ll know that I’m very approachable, friendly. But I get why people say that to me. I can’t blame them. You need to know me first before you can say anything.

Who do you want to work with in the future?

Ronnie: I want to have pursue a solo career but if I were given the chance, I’d like to work with my groupmates’ the Hashtags. Gusto ko pagtanda namin magkakasama

pa din kami (Even if we grow older, I still want us to stay together). I want a movie starring all of us together.

Marco: I want to work with KathNiel again but this time for a teleserye. I also want to work with John Lloyd Cruz and Coco Martin.

Roles you want to portray?

Ronnie: I want to pick a character from Mars Ravelo. I want to portray a superhero role. Like Lastikman.

Marco: I want to do a role from something like Erik Matti’s OTJ.

Best thing about being young?

Marco: The best thing about being young is that you can explore more things. Mas free ka kapag bata ka.

What do you want to achieve this 2017?

Ronnie: Aside from my new teleserye A Love to Last, with hope, I can score the role of Lastikman.

Marco: I’ll just do my best in every project that they give me. I also want to prepare myself for Cosmo and Bench fashion show. So I really need to go on a diet. I also want to have my own show. Let’s dream big, my own show and a love team that the people would like.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?

Ronnie: I would like to cut down on my food  intake because my tummy is getting bigger. Also? to always trust my management.

Marco: No rice. But seriously, my New Year’s resolution is to be more serious in everything I do. No more petiks petiks in any field, I really need to focus.

Life lessons you’ve learned?

Ronnie: I learned how be how to be disciplined, how to value money, and I learned how to work hard even more.

Marco: My motto in life is, fall down seven times, stand up eight. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall down, life will put down but you have to rise up because the only one who could really put you down is yourself. If you know that you can do it, no one will stop you.
