Sweden Government presents new labour immigration rules

Government presents new labour immigration rules

    Published: 5 May 08 18:05 CET
    Online: http://www.thelocal.se/11562/

Starting December 15th, 2008, it will be easier for non-EU citizens to come to Sweden to work, according to a new proposal put forward by the government on Monday.

The need for additional labour in Sweden is increasing, which has led the government to propose new rules governing labour migration.

The proposal also has the support of the Green Party.

The new rules stipulate that control of deciding whether if there is a need to recruit foreign workers be taken away from the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen) and handed over to individual employers.

The basic conditions for being granted a work permit include an offer for a job which pays enough to support oneself. In addition, the terms of employment must be equal to or better than those set out in Swedish collective bargaining agreements or what passes for standard practice in a particular industry.

One in four unemployed Swedes lie to the Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen) about having applied for positions recommended to them by the agency.Asked as to why they refuse to new job, the unemployed respond that they don’t think the position suits their education or that they see themselves as either under- or over -qualified.

I find this article amusing and funny. Swedes are spoiled people. You can not do this in America. They will immediately cut off your benefit check if you don't accept the job offer. Sweden is a first world country and it has an advance economy and a very high standard of living. Your GDP per capita is $36,900.00 in 2007 according to the publish report of the CIA gov.library publication.  What is your current minimum wage law per hour ?  Most of the European States are using the Euro for currency, how come the Swedes don't ? The people rejected the Euro in 2003 national referandum.  Are you still using the Swedish Kronor ? If ever I will relocate to another country, I prefer to go to Europe specially in England or Switzerland where the standard of living & the economy  is similar to USA.

Yes you are right, swedes are spoiled in this matter because they get almost the same money  working  or not,, but this have got a change now with the new government

"f a job seeker doesn’t apply for an appropriate position or enroll in a recommended labor market entry program, the Public Employment Service is responsible for informing the Unemployment Insurance Board of the situation."

As Norway we was also not so positive to the EU membership but in second vote we went in, but we never wanted to let of control of the Swedish "krona" so yes we still have our own currency . Norway still have a big resistants to go for the E-Union.

And maybe that was the right decision to do because there must be a reason why all EU countries try to follow and copy the Swedish economic system

When it comes to Asians in Sweden, i really don´t know how many %, i don´t think it´s so high figures, maybe because that so many come for asylum from the "USA aftermath  interference" country's and former yugoslavian countries.( regarding the "job seekers" the immigrants are a big %  that learned how to use the system to)

For some reason Asians tend to go to the holy country USA,,hehe .. i wish more come here

Regarding salary i would say average is about 4000 USD/month+benefits , free medical , insurance , retirement , etc etc

    + All child's up to 18 years age get 200USD/month if you have 3 children u get a 4th child support 4x200USD

Mothers have the right to stop work 3 months before labour and 12 months after with 80% of there salary from the Insurance , father get 60 days

All this is financed by taxes and believe me we pay a lot of tax,,hehe

Ps I don´t think you would like England, very much problems and powerty there Ds

Re: Sweden Government presents new labour immigration rules

First, unemployment in Sweden is not at all low. The official rate stands around 6%, which is just above normal for a market economy. But according to the trade unions, which are intimately connected to the Social Democratic government, the real - and hidden - level of unemployment rises above 20 percent. Out of a population of nine million people, over one and a half million healthy Swedes have chosen not to enter the labor market and live on welfare instead. So blondswede has chosen to collect his early retirement fund and spend it here.

And second, while Sweden’s growth (around 3 percent) is above the European average, it is still relatively low. If Sweden were a state in America today, it would be the fifth poorest. Even more, expect to be taxed as high as 63% of your income. In that perspective, perhaps it is not surprising that not a single large-scale enterprise - like IKEA or Ericsson - has been created in Sweden since 1970.

Are these the trademarks of a successful society? I think not, and there is even more: 10% of Swedish students leave compulsory school (that's elementary school for us) without complete grades, and one third of the students in high school drop out. This is why blondswede has reading and writing skills that an average Filipino will sneer at. So it comes as no surprise that most Swedes feel they are underqualified for a business executive job (who would hire a grade school graduate to run a corporation?). And those who feel overqualified are those high school graduates looking for jobs that grade school children can accomplish.

Talk about brain drain in the Philippines. It's worse there. It's brain sprain.

And the universal health care system - widely celebrated abroad for its 'fairness' - is an equally dismal story. The wait between a first doctor's appointment and an operation may be as long as a year or more, which in some cases is enough time for the patient to die, while others are forced to spend the better part of their "golden years" waiting for a new wheelchair. At the same time, the government is trying to enforce a ban on private health care initiatives. If you're in the nursing profession, stay away from Sweden.

Instead of putting immigrants to work and assimilating them to Sweden's democratic values, they are placed in economically destitute suburbs. It is in these suburbs that immigrants begin hating freedom and start dreaming up ways to set cities ablaze.

Don't bother immigrating there. You'll live the life of a white-collar squatter in a cold place.

Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland Lead the Rankings in the Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008

    Español I Français I Deutsch I Italiano I Português I 日本語 I 中文

Geneva, Switzerland, 9 April 2008 - Denmark is the most networked economy in the world, followed by Sweden and Switzerland, according to The Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008, released today by the World Economic Forum. Among the top ten, the Republic of Korea (9) and, to a lesser extent, the United States (4) post the most notable improvements (moving up 10 and 3 positions, respectively).

“The successful experience of the Nordic countries, Singapore, the United States or Korea shows that a coherent government vision on the importance of ICT, coupled with an early focus on education and innovation, are key not only for spurring networked readiness, but also to lay the foundations for sustainable growth,” said Irene Mia, Senior Economist of the Global Competitiveness Network at the World Economic Forum and Co-Editor of the Report.

Published for the seventh consecutive year with record coverage of 127 economies worldwide, the Report has become the world’s most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.

Under the theme Fostering Innovation through Networked Readiness, this year’s Report places a particular focus on the role of networked readiness in spurring innovation through topics covered in the analytical chapters.

The Networked Readiness Index (NRI), featured in the Report, examines how prepared countries are to use ICT effectively on three dimensions: the general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment for ICT; the readiness of the three key stakeholder groups  individuals, businesses and governments  to use and benefit from ICT; and their actual usage of the latest information and communication technologies available.

The NRI uses a combination of data from publicly available sources, as well as the results of the Executive Opinion Survey, a comprehensive annual survey conducted by the World Economic Forum with its network of Partner Institutes (leading research institutes and business organizations) in the countries included in the Report. The Survey provides unique data on many qualitative institutional and business environment issues.

This cross-country analysis of the drivers of networked readiness provides useful comparative information for making business decisions and additional value to governments wishing to improve their ICT preparedness.

Download the full Networked Readiness Index 2007-2008 rankings and read the highlights on our website: http://www.weforum.org/gitr

The Report also features a number of excellent contributions from practitioners, scholars and experts with relevant knowledge and experience in ICT. An update of the NRI is followed by chapters on networked readiness-related topics, with a special focus on innovation, and reports on the varied state of ICT development in Singapore, Qatar, and the EU. The Report contains detailed country profiles for the 127 economies featured in the study, providing a snapshot of each economy’s level of ICT penetration and usage. Also included is an extensive section of data tables, including each indicator used in the Index’s computation.

The Report is produced by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with INSEAD, the leading international business school, and is sponsored this year by Cisco Systems. The editors of the Report are Soumitra Dutta, Dean, External Relations and Roland Berger Professor of Business and Technology, INSEAD, France, and Irene Mia, Associate Director and Senior Economist, Global Competitiveness Network, World Economic Forum.

Irene Mia will give a live online video briefing on the Report on Wednesday 9 April 2008 from 18.00 to 19.00 CET at: http://qik.com/worldeconomiforum
