’80s idols are together in show

It’s retro time on the concert scene.

On May 16 and 17, catch ’80s idols Raymond Lauchengco, Louie Heredia, Gino Padilla and Randy Santiago in Greatest Hits of the ’80s at the Music Museum (also the venue of Golden Divas, another retro concert that brought Pilita Corrales, Carmen Pateña and Carmen Soriano together).

Raymond, Louie, Gino and Randy will bring the audience back to the exciting ’80s with their hits — and more.

(Note: Greatest Hits of the ’80s is produced by Viva Concerts & Events. Ticket prices are: P2,250 for orchestra center, P2,000 for orchestra side and P1,400 for balcony. For inquiries, call Ticketworld outlets at 891-9999.)

80s’ pop icons in one concert

The 80s gave us some of local music scene’s best and most enduring artists. Four of those artists will return to the concert scene via "Greatest Hits of the 80’s," a two-night show at the Music Museum on May 16 and 17).

Remember Gino Padilla? His voice gave life to the hit singles "Close You and I" - which was used in a toothpaste commercial back in the day — "I Believe In You" and "Let The Love Begin."

Gino’s most recent projects include an album produced by none other than the Megastar, Ms. Sharon Cuneta herself. The album, bannered by the first single "Keeping The Momories Alive," is titled "Hands Of Time" and is available at all leading record bars.

Louie Heredia also made his mark in the 1980’s - in 1985, to be precise - with songs like "Can’t Find No Reasons," "Iisang Damdamin," "Nag-iisang Ikaw" and "Una At Huling Mamahalin." Back in the day, he also hosted many TV shows like the phenomenal "Lunch Date."

Actor-singer Raymond Lauchengco also rose to prominence in the 1980’s, thanks largely in part to his role in the iconic 1980’s teen movie "Bagets." His hits include "In Need You Back," "Farewell," "Saan Darating Ang Umaga" and "So It’s You." After a brief career hiatus, during which he was sorely missed by the industry, Raymond went back to Viva Artists Agency — the same company that launched his career.

The title of Raymond’s latest album - a collection of songs from the 1980’s rearranged big-band style — Full Circle is very appropriate sinxe he came "full circle" when he returned to Viva.

Who can forget Randy Santiago and those shades of his? Randy may be a director now — he recently helmed the ABS-CBN sitcom "Aalog-alog" - but back in the day he was an in-demand singer and dancer. He appeared in several musical variety shows and released several hit singles of his own, including "Hindi Magbabago," "Para Sa ‘Yo," "Tuloy Pa Rin" and the ultimaten ladies’ man song "Babaero."

"Greatest Hits of the 80’s" is produced by Viva Concerts and Events.

Nag-promote ang  foursome singer of the 80’s na  sina Louie Herredia, Randy Santiago, Raymond Lauchengco  and Gino Padil-la for their upcoming con-cert na Greatest Hits of the 80’s sa Wowowee last week.

Sa special production number ng apat, isa-isa  silang tinatawag sa stage to sing their signature song.    When it was time for Louie,  na-off balance  sa stage ang singer, pero nakatayo naman kaagad to fi-nish  his song.

It was after na lang sa backstage  nang naramdaman ni Louie ang sakit. May sugat pala siya sa tuhod caused by his  semplang.

Oh well, ganoon talaga ang performers and special-ly kapag live show. The performer must go on whatever happens.

Anyways, nabanggit na lang din naman, their Greatest Hits of the 80’s  concert  is a two-night affair sa Music Museum  this May 16 and 17.

We don’t know who is producing it, pero baka Viva Concerts.

    Pop goes the ’80s

A decade characterized by funny looking clothes and weird makeup – that’s what most people now think of the 1980s.

LONGEST concert ever ang Greatest Hits of the 80’s.

Parang napakalaking concert ang gagawin ng Viva Concert and Events na Greatest Hits of the 80’s. It has four big male singing stars of the eighties na sina Raymond Lauchengco, Gino Padilla, Louie Heredia and Randy Santiago na kahit sila lang sandamakmak ang collective hits.

Tapos two night concert pa ito, on May 16 and 17 sa Music Museum from the stage direction of Jun Jun Santiago.

We say big dahil nang nagpipilian na ng repertoire, personal hits pa lang nila, aabot na ng two hours.

Kaso they still have to sing a lot of songs from the 80’s  so when everything was compiled, baka raw umabot ito ng four to five hours.

Nang nag-decide sila to cut and trim here and there, tatlong oras pa rin ang ita-tagal ng concert so sabi nila hanggang doon na lang.

For tickets call Ticket World at 891 9999.

    LOUIE’S PAELLA
LOUIE Heredia zoomed to fame in the 80’s singing hits like “Nag-iisang Ikaw,”  “Iisang Damdamin,” and “Una’t Huling Mamahalin.”  He’s now doing a concert with Randy Santiago, Raymond Lauchengco and Gino Padilla, “Greatest Hits of the 80s”, at the Music Museum on May 16 and 17. “This is a project of Boss Vic’s kids, Vincent and Veronique,” he says.

“When they first offered it to me, I said I’d think about it kasi I don’t really enjoy going out anymore. I felt ‘been there, done that’, let younger singers do it. I don’t even accept offers to guest on TV nga. There was even an offer for me to do a new album, pero ayoko na.

I just want a simple normal life. But they were very convincing so   when I gave my nod, naisip ko, naku, I’d be memorizing songs again. And I have to diet and exercise kasi tumaba ako. But now that I’m here, I’m giving it my best. Panay ang rehearsal namin nina Randy to make sure we’ll give the audience a good show. At sana naman, maraming manood sa amin.”

While he’s away from the limelight, he found a new calling: cooking. His specialty is paella and last Christmas, he could hardly cope with the orders.         “Everyone who has tasted it says I’ve perfected paella and my dream is to have my own restaurant.” If you want to try his paella, you can call him at his cellphone: 0917-795-6346.

Louie is excited with “Greatest Hits of the 80’s” as all of them get to sing their own hits and about 20 different medleys of various hit songs of the era. “May concept ang bawat medley. The opening number is puro dance hits like ‘All Night Long’ and ‘Rhythm of the Night’. Then we have a medley of the hit songs of female singers then like Kuh Ledesma, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Joey Albert, and many more. Sobrang dami ng good songs from the 80s kaya ang problema namin is which ones to include. Ang dami pa ring hindi namin nagamit and we can use them if this concert will have a Part 2.”

While promoting the show on TV, he tripped and fell right on cam. “It’s very embarrassing. But at least, tumayo pa rin ako at kumanta. Some people think I did it on purpose para mapag-usapan. Puede ba, I’m not that stupid. Nakakahiya nga ang nangyari sa’kin.”

    Nostalgic trip

Viva Concerts and Events is staging "Greatest Hits of the ‘80s" at the Music Museum on May 16 and 17. The two-night show will see Gino Padilla, Louie Heredia, Raymond Lauchengco and Randy Santiago singing some of their biggest hits, with a few surprises thrown in.

Gino is the voice that sold a thousand tubes of toothpaste back in the day. Well, not really, but his signature song "Closer You and I" was used in a toothpaste commercial once. The exposure helped his follow-up singles "I Believe in You" and "Let the Love Begin" become just as successful.

Gino has a new album "Hands of Time," which he co-produced with Sharon Cuneta.

For his part, Louie’s hits – like "Iisang Damdamin," "Nag-iisang Ikaw" and "Una at Huling Mamahalin" – served as the soundtrack for many a guy courting a girl back in the day. These days, he is actually more focused on developing his talent in the kitchen. His specialty? Paella, which you can order from him. So engrossed is he with this new business venture of his that he went into semi-retirement. However, when Viva contacted him, he agreed to come out of semi-retirement.

Raymond Lauchengco will add a little something extra with stirring renditions of all his old hits, including "I Need You Back," "Farewell," "Saan Darating ang Umaga" and "So It’s You." That he will participate in this show is fitting, since he started his career in the 1980’s via the teen movie "Bagets," which was also produced by Viva – and he has also released a new album, "Full Circle."

Meanwhile, "Babaero," one of Randy Santiago’s biggest hits, was the song for all ladies’ men. Randy – who of late has ventured into directing – will be singing "Babaero" and his other hits, so if you’ve missed "Hindi Magbabago," "Para Sa ‘Yo" and "Tuloy Pa Rin" live, then grab tickets to "Greatest Hits of the ‘80s" ASAP.

Produced by Viva Concerts and Events, it is directed by Jun-Jun Santiago, with Noel Cruz of Serenity Band on hand as the musical director. Jake Tordesillas and Kaye Brondial share writing duties.

    Louie Heredia, new YouTube sensation

After Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda and the Papaya Dance, the newest YouTube sensation is Louie Heredia and his now his famous slip in Wowowee. Buzzstation met Louie in the meet-the-media event for The Greatest Hits of The ‘80s two-night show at the Music Museum on May 16 and 17, which he’s doing with music icons Randy Santiago, Gino Padilla and Raymond Lauchengco. What happened was when he entered the new Wowowee stage while singing, his leather shoes caused him to slip, causing him to hurt his legs. With presence of mind, he stood up, continued singing with

the Greatest Hits of the ‘80s men, delivering a great performance. As YouTube thrives on the miseries of others, somebody posted the freak accident, making Louie an instant global sensation. For one, he will make more guest appearances in Wowowee’s “Hep Hep Hurray!” game portion.

The concert is produced by Viva Concerts with Junjun Santiago as director and Noel Cruz as musical director. Tickets are at P2,250, P2,000 and P1,400 are available at TicketWorld (891-9999).

4 singers to revive hits of the ‘80s

FOUR outstanding singers reunited in a two night special event in their careers as they serenade and entertain the public again after several years of being out of the limelight.

Gino Padilla, Louie Heredia, Raymond Lauchengco and Randy Santiago bring back the old days as they perform a pulsating and lively music event in their upcoming show at the Music Museum.

Dubbed “Greatest Hits of the ‘80s”, the show of the four singing sensation who are known for their individual approach in singing and their incomparable performances will hit the road on May 16 and 17.

Meanwhile, in line with their promotion of their forthcoming concert, Louie made a remarkable slipped on the afternoon show of ABS-CBN – “Wowowee”.

While singing at the new stage of the variety show, Louie as he walks around accidentally slipped, which is allegedly caused by his leather shoes. The singer’s leg was also hurt at that time.

Despite the tripped, he managed to stand up and continued singing.

On the other hand, Louie’s fortuitous incident is now one of the hottest videos at YouTube as he has now become a global fuss.

The concert of the four singing icons is produced by Viva Concerts. The production is directed by Junjun Santiago, while the musical direction is by Noel Cruz.

    Tickets range from P2,250, P2,000 and P1,400. (JRDB/Sunnex)

    ABOUT SHOWBIZ Ni Nitz Miralles
    Friday, April 25, 2008

    * * *

Sa May 16 and 17 ang concert ng apat na to be directed by Junjun Santiago at musical director Noel Cruz. May US tours din ito at huwag na sanang madapa uli si Louie.

    Bringing back the ’80s

    By: Remy Umerez

    A Little Bit

INSPIRED by the success of the Hitmakers (namely Rico J. Puno, Hajji Alejandro, Rey Valera and Marco Sison)who have taken the Filipino communities almost all over the world by storm,(the fabulous 4 start their  US tour 2008 this May) Viva Concerts has formed a junior version of another batch of hitmakers.  From the ‘60s, they will revive the songs that had become popular during the ’80s. Hence, their concert is billed as Greatest Hits of the ’80s.

The artists involved are Gino Padilla, Louie Heredia, Randy Santiago and Raymond Lauchengco. The two-night stint at the Music Museum (May l6 and l7) ushers their comeback into the concert scene though not as solo performers.

For Gino Padilla whose voice sold a thousand tubes of toothpaste during his time (remember Closer You and I used in a toothpaste commercial?) it is a major comeback for him having devoted more time to a family business than mounting concerts or recording an album. He could have migrated to the USA  but Gino preferred  to stay here with his family. "I feel  I would be a lot useful here than look for a job abroad,"  he says.

Unlike Rico and company, the junior version of the Hitmakers produced only a handful of hits since at one point in their careers, they devoted their time to other business endeavors.

Raymond  (who could forget I Need You Back, Farewell or Saan Darating ang Umaga) was into photography until Viva urged him to record again resulting in the release of Full Circle which fittingly described the former heartthrob..

"The sound of the ’80s continues and it is fun jamming with the rest of the guys. It is nice to remember and we hope our efforts will bring us good results. We welcome the idea of starting on an intimate venue like the Music Museum and let’s see where it would lead us later on," Raymond says.

Louie is an iron chef as far as cooking paella is concerned. Still single, he immediately consented when Vincent del Rosario approached him with the idea and  he might even surprise us with his own version of Randy Santiago’s Babaero. Likewise, Randy might interpret Louie’s signature song, Nag-iisang Ikaw.

Randy has successfully conquered television as a host but singing will always be a part of his life.It is his love for singing that made Randy put up Ratsky where he can perform whenever he feels the itch.

Produced by Viva Concerts, Greatest Hits of the 80s is directed by Jun-Jun Santiago, with Noel Cruz of Serenity Band on hand as the musical director. Jake Tordesillas and Kaye Brondial share writing duties while Ratsky, Peoples Journal and DWTM pitch in as sponsors.

It would definitely be a walk down memory lane set to the sounds of the ’80s with a lot of highlights and surprises coming from Gino, Louie, Randy and Raymond. Tickets to Greatest Hits of the 80s are: P2,250 (orchestra center) P2,000 (orchestra side) and  P1,400 (Balcony).
