Cinebro to bring back action films with ‘Saka Saka’
by Walden Sadiri M. Belen
December 12, 2013

Cinebro is bringing back action films in Philippine Cinema via Toto Natividad’s “Saka Saka” which is one of the official entries to the New Wave Full Feature Film category of the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Cinebro’s Richard Reynante said that producing “Saka Saka,” the story of action movies director Toto Natividad is “only an introduction” of better things to come in the action genre if they succeed at the box-office.

“Gusto naming i-test yung market if there would be takers kasi I believe lalo na sa mga probinsya, yung mga kalalakihan natin doon gustong manuod ng mga Tagalog na action movies. So kung mapapatunayan natin na there would still be a market, we plan to make this regular,” shared Richard.

He is banking on the idea that the box-office successes of action movies in the 80′s and 90′s could repeat itself this year and the years to come. And with it the discovery and launching of dramatic actors Ejay Falcon and Joseph Marco as new action stars.

“In our own little way, we want to reboot the action films scene in the county? And maybe in a couple of years baka bumalik sa mainstream ang action films. So sinisimulan namin sa maliliit na projects and eventually we’d try to go bigger,” related Richard.

He added that part of Cinebro’s mission is to develop new action stars.

“If you’ve noticed nawala yung mga slate ng action stars. Marami tayong mga dramatic actors and mga matinee idols. So gusto ko sanang maka-discover together with director Toto Natividad ng mga bagong action stars someday. What do you know maybe from this craft makagawa tayo ng bagong Fernando Poe Jr., bagong Ramon Revilla, Rudy Fernandez or Robin Padilla for that matter. So yun ang magandang tinitignan namin in the future. We start small but we want to grow big,” exclaimed Richard.

The story of “Saka Saka” was with Toto Natividad for 10 years before the former presented it to Cinebro this year and was green-lighted to become a full length feature film.

As if it’s paying homage to the 80′s and 90′s action flicks, “Saka Saka” is explosive and is filled with adrenaline pumping scenes. And these are traits popular to its director Toto Natividad who catapulted his action stars to fame with his moviemaking style. And that’s one of the selling point of “Saka Saka” according to its director and producer.

“Gusto sana nating ma-establish ulit yung appreciation of Filipino action. God willing malay ninyo naman in the future makakagawa kami ng sarili nating action na may tatak Filipino and we may be able to compete in the global scene. It’s always possible,” Richard remarked proudly.

Written by Toto Natividad, Willy Laconsay and Manuel R. Buising, the film also stars Baron Geisler, Toby Alejar, Perla Bautista, Kathleen Hermosa and introducing Akiko Solon and Martin Imperial.

“Saka Saka” is slated to open in SM Megamall and Glorietta cinemas from Dec. 18 to 24.

Ejay sees Sunshine as a mom

Ayon kay Ejay Falcon, technically, first full-length movie niya ang indie film na Saka-Saka, official entry ng Metro Manila Film Festival 2013 sa New Wave category.

Kaya bigay-todo siya at first time na pumayag makipag-love scene.

“Medyo. At saka, first time ko, eh,” he said.

As in para siyang gulat na gulat.

FREE LANCER Ni Emy Abuan Bautista (Pang-Masa) | Updated December 12, 2013 - 12:00am

Mabait kasi ako at umiiyak kapag drama.”
