After the reported but not yet official transfer of Ogie Alcasid to TV5, it would appear that GMA Network is poised to lose another major Kapatid star to another rival network.
With the expiration of her Kapuso contract this coming August, 2013 FHM Sexiest Woman Marian Rivera has been rumored to be transferring to ABS-CBN since last April.
Marian, who has been with the Kapuso network since the start of her career back in 2005, recently told the entertainment press that she hasn’t made up her mind yet and everyone will have to wait until August for her to make her decision.
But there are signs that seem to point to which direction she’s likely to take. Last June, she granted a lengthy interview with Kapamilya star Bianca Gonzalez for the latter’s column for the Philippine Star.
And just last Thursday, the full trailer of “Kung Fu Divas”, Marian’s first movie with Star Cinema that she will headline together with ABS-CBN comedienne Ai-Ai de las Alas, premiered on YouTube.
Directed by Onat Diaz (“The Buzz”), the film is said to be produced by Marian and Ai-Ai themselves although an earlier one-minute teaser last February showed it to be a co-production of Reality Entertainment, an outfit owned by director Erik Matti and producer Dondon Monteverde, and Diaz’s own The O&Co. Picture Factory.
The three-minute full trailer, however, now carries the Star Cinema emblem which suggests that the Kapamilya network’s film production company has picked it up for distribution. So technically and like boyfriend Dingdong Dantes before her, Marian now has a Star Cinema project under her belt.
Dubbed as an action comedy adventure, “Kung Fu Divas” has Marian and Ai-Ai playing bitter beauty pageant rivals turned unlikely allies. The new trailer also reveals other cast members like Gloria Diaz, Bianca Manalo, Precious Lara Quigaman, Roy Alvarez, Edward Mendez and Roderick Paulate as the villainous San-ing.
The film is also loaded with the same chroma CGI technology that was used to favorable effect in “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles”.
“Ku Fu Divas” was initially slated for an October release, but the full trailer now reveals that the film will open on September 25.
Could Marian Rivera be officially a Kapamilya by then?
