5 & Up is a children's show... much more fruitful than batibot... well to tell you marami ring mga awards na natanggap yung batibot, trivia: kay ainee marcos pala yung batibot.

if you have seen 5&Up, you would have hooked up with it for a long time as i did myself kasi it just had tons and tons of educational and informative stuff that the young kids would really need. it tackled a lot of things from history to science, travel, art in a very unique way of production. it's like the probe team itself... it's a children's magazine show. biggrin.gif

when I was a kid, I dreamed of joining that show. ang galing ng mga batang yun. I'm very happy that Probe is now back where they trully belong. I just hope ABS-CBN would make some adjustments with its schedule kasi sobrang late na ang timeslot ng show na ito. Katapat ata nito ang Debate sa GMA. Am I right? unsure.gif

THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD

Rocked by successive corruption and political scandals and hobbled by an ailing economy, the Philippines was always on the edge for the most part of 2005. President Gloria Arroyo faced the toughest challenge to her administration and survived numerous attempts to unseat her. But the calls for the President to resign have not died down.

In the tumultuous events of 2005, the Filipino nation was divided. Politicians were sharply divided into pro- and anti-GMA. The church and civil society, pillars of two successful people power revolutions, were divided as well into two groups - ; one, calling for the President to step down; the other, asking her to stay the course.

Probe looks back to the events that brought the Filipinos to the brink and review stories of triumph with a fresh perspective ... through the eyes of children who will inherit and harvest whatever it is that we plant today.

Adults may dismiss a child's opinion about election cheating, the Hello, Garci tapes or the aborted impeachment trial as drivel, but what if these events put in question the very lessons that our youth learn at home such as "do not tell a lie and do not cheat?" And what should the elders tell the youth when they say that the leaders of today do not conform to the concepts of leadership espoused in schools?

In our traditional year-ender, Probe host Cheche Lazaro gets the lowdown from kids from different parts of the country and sectors of society. The youth take turns in articulating their views about the financial and political crises that bedeviled the nation, and in expressing their honest and heartfelt wish to see the Philippines well on its way to peace and progress. While the year 2005 was marked by so much confusion and rabblerousing, there were bright spots which our children found to be inspiring.

Do not fail to watch Probe's attempt to pass on the microphone to the youth. Who knows, what you will hear may be your own child's thoughts and aspirations.

    Docu on child soldiers
    premieres in New York

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Probe,” the Philippines’ longest-running and most awarded television newsmagazine show, recently premiered at the Asia Society headquarters in New York with its documentary “Mga Batang Mandirigima” (“Child Soldiers”), becoming the first Filipino documentary to be screened by the renowned international organization.

Award-winning journalist and "Probe" producer Cheche Lazaro present the film to a diverse audience and was joined by Jo Becker of Human Rights Watch and Anjana Shakya of Beyond Beijing Committee for a panel discussion.

"I feel very honored for ‘Probe’ to have been invited by the Asia Society, which is very much into issues that span multi-cultural concerns. They even billed it as a ‘world premiere’ because it was the first time they were doing to screen a Philippine documentary," Lazaro said.

In the forum following the screening, a panel of experts from the Human Rights Watch, Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict, and Women’s Commission for Refugee Women discussed the use of child soldiers in many conflict regions like Afghanistan, Angola and Nepal where similar situations are faced by children.

"Mga Batang Mandirigma" is a three-hour, three-part series about two young Western-educated Filipino Muslims who traced their roots in the Philippines and inevitably came face-to-face with the realities of being a Muslim in a predominantly Christian nation during a post 9/11 scenario.
The documentary also depicts the harsh experiences of child soldiers and children caught in the crossfire as the war rages, unraveling a story of a never-ending war as seen through the eyes of the innocent victims.

"Mga Batang Mandirigma" is produced by Probe Productions with the support of the United States Institute of Peace.

Asia Society is an international non-profit educational organization dedicated to building understanding and awareness of the more than 30 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It conducts art exhibits and performances, film showing, lectures, seminars and conferences, publications and assistance to media, and materials and programs for students and teachers.

"Probe" is shown every Thursday on ABS-CBN after the "Insider."
