baka ang one anchor sa kanila ay si ces oreña-drilon! wala na ang pipol!

sa ngayon, matuwa muna tayo at maging kuntento sa kalagayan ni korina sa bandila...

di pa naipapalabas gusto nyo nang magreformat... give the program a chance first ok?


sa ngayon, ipagmalaki natin na si korina sanchez ay naibalik dahil malakas siya sa tao! hindi sa koneksiyon!

MAMAYA ang pilot ng Bandila, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs replacement post primetime news sa Insider.

May misyon ang bagong 30-minute news na anchored by Ms. Korina Sanchez, Henry Omaga-Diaz and Ces Drilon and it has everything to do with making the nighttime news at night, hindi na early morning. Dati nga raw kasi, with its Primetime Bida soap block plus a sitcom or another News and Current Affairs show, madaling araw na ang pasok ng Insider kaya hindi na ‘good evening’ ang sinasabi ng mga hosts kungdi ‘good morning’ na.

Bandila will be aired at 10:30 pm or right after Primetime Bida. Tall order ito for Ms. Maria Ressa, head of News and Current Affairs ng ABS dahil kung kinakailangang gabi-gabi raw tawagan ang technical para tapusin ang mga mauunang shows para makapasok ang Bandila sa 10:30 pm, gagawin nila.

Good thing binigyan sila ng commitment not just by Ms. Charo Santos, head of entertainment and Mr. Gabby Lopez himself na whatever happens, papasok sila ng ganitong oras.

Parang The Insider, a US syndicated showbiz news, daw ang format ng Bandila.

Primetime news is about to undergo a groundbreaking shift.

True to its mission to “make the world a better place through excellent journalism,” ABS-CBN is proud to present its latest nightly news program Bandila, which starts airing tonight at 10:30 p.m.

Driven by a strong sense of nationalism and commitment to public service, ABS-CBN brings valuable news and information at the much earlier timeslot of 10:30 p.m. — an act of leadership that places flag and country first, before the network’s commercial and competitive interests.

The move pits Bandila against the comedy and drama programs of competition. This is why Bandila will be different from regular newscast format in terms of language, scripting and presentation, says Luchi Cruz-Valdez, who is in charge of production.

“This is a calculated risk on our part, but we think the time is right and viewers will watch this program. Viewers are now looking for credibility and more information. Content and news drive the day,” says Maria Ressa, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head.

Anchored by the multi-awarded and highly respected team of Korina Sanchez, Henry Omaga-Diaz and Ces Drilon, Bandila is a nightly collaboration of the best minds in journalism — from experts to senior reporters — delivering stories of national concern and crystallizing issues for the understanding and empowerment of all Filipinos.

Innovative because it deviates from the traditional newscast that is generic, broad and detached, Bandila’s mission is to seek answers, if not solutions, to the country’s problems and play an active role in nation-building.

According to Boyet Agustin, executive producer: “Terrorists go for the ‘maximum kill’ to get media attention and maximize its impact. Politicians waste a lot of time grandstanding to be recorded on camera. Law enforcers prance around overdoing accepted procedures to look good on TV. Everything is done and all agenda are met at the expense of the public with media as a willing accomplice.

“We are duty-bound to report what we see. However, too much emphasis is being given to the juiciest angles, the high-impact sound bytes, and the most colorful visuals. The real stories are often camouflaged whenever reports lose sight of the pictorial whole. Our perspective is somewhat obscured by our market orientation, the need to sell, and the perceived need to sensationalize to be able to sell.

“News cannot be invented. But, reporting and the presentation of news can be re-invented.

“This is our mission – to use excellent journalism to make our country a better place o live in, to use stories to reveal the Filipino’s condition, crystallize issues, and trace problems to the core, always out of a real desire to find resolutions.

“It is pioneering and different from all other newscast that is broad, generic and detached, to one that is purposeful and motivated by a strong sense of nationalism, a love for country and fellowmen.

“It sees things from the point of view of the masses. It tries to find where the ordinary man stand in the scheme of things. It will take the cudgel for his cause.

Could it be true that "some people" at ABS-CBN are getting "insecure" with the big comeback to newscasting of Korina Sanchez, effective tonight at 10:30 on Bandila which replaces Insider? Who are "those people," the Funfare DPA wouldn’t say. Korina is the main anchor lady with Ces Oreña-Drilon (who used to co-anchor Insider with Dong Puno) and Henry Omaga-Diaz.

To herald Korina’s long-delayed comeback ("scooped" by The STAR three weeks ago), Funfare asked her to "shed light" on how she felt being away from newscasting (although she’s visible early Sunday nights as host of Rated K) these past two years after she was unceremoniously "graduated" from TV Patrol, replaced by Karen Davila.

How does it feel to be back doing a daily newscast after two years?

"It’s an an assignment. It’s a position which management seems to see fit for me to, hopefully, make a significant contribution to. And I do hope that my participation will help. I’m not as giddy as I used to be about a new project... It’s more like, okay, let’s do this now, let’s give it our best shot, let’s hope this does make a difference.

"There was a time when I thought that anchoring a news program was ‘it’ for me. Maybe to most, it still is. Arguably, anchoring a newscast is a be-all and end-all because of what that seat represents. But then, maybe it really is just a chair after all.

"My vacation from the daily news-presenting allowed me to rediscover the practice – broadcast journalism, that is. Fortunately, as I remain a team player in wherever the company steers its direction, there have always been several options from which I’ve found great pleasure working on. I really enjoyed doing Tonight on ANC; it’s a personal brand of journalism I was able to explore. I am heartened that it was so well-received; very difficult to produce daily so I could only do it for a few months at a time. Hopefully, the show will be revived soon after the launching of Bandila. With other projects keeping me busy, the two years went by so fast."

How have the past two years been for you?

"Those two years were a rediscovery of many things. People must have thought that I had extra time on my hands. But on the contrary, I got even busier. The difference is that I was able to control my schedule better because I didn’t have to be back in the office by 5 p.m. to prepare for the news. The new time management application allowed me to become even more productive with regards to family, personal plans for the future and other businesses I got into. And, oh, those guilt-free three-week vacations.

"I was also able to rekindle my first love which is writing. I wrote most of the daily Tonight on ANC, with valuable research from Manolo Quezon, and I now write for People Asia and every Sunday for the Allure section of The STAR. My columns are not political by choice. Instead, they are about positive relationships and self-development topics. I like to not only help readers think about what goes on around them but to encourage them to think for themselves. It’s a therapy for myself, actually, like thinking and putting pieces together aloud."

Is your comeback some kind of a "vindication"?

"Yes, some people have asked me that question. Well, I don’t feel that it is. Mr. Gabby Lopez was very emphatic about the movements in news two years ago, often publicly saying that my departure from TV Patrol had nothing to do with my performance or the ratings of the show at the time. I believe him since that’s statistically measurable. And I was okay with that.

"If you noticed, I didn’t sulk. I moved on to the next projects immediately and I’m happy with what I did with those two years. You must remember that, since I started more than 20 years ago, I was coming out on TV daily. The past two years were the longest break I had from daily television.

"Let’s put it this way: whatever self-imposed heartbreak I suffered from that drastic change I more than enough made up for to myself as well. Now, I’m even better-equipped and I am convinced there is more to all this than an anchor seat. I joke that if I had been assigned to the Purchasing Department, I would have targeted to be the country’s best purchaser. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!"

How is Bandila different from other newscasts?

"The news for the day is the news for the day. You can’t walk too far away from it. But Bandila promises to treat the presentation just a bit differently to cater to those who missed the earlier edition – with some pluses. The big news really is its earlier timeslot. It’s a service. The company gives up revenue just so the public can watch with their eyes still open at night. They’ll still be awake while they catch up on the day’s events. We’ll also be able to go home and sleep earlier. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! It will still be a full day for me since I’ll be doing three daily shows – again! – which I haven’t been doing since Kris & Korina and TV Patrol. I’ll still do my daily morning program on DZMM with Ted Failon (8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday thru Friday), a new show called K daily (1 to 2 p.m.) on ANC Channel 27 and, of course, Bandila.

And, by the way, when is she and Sen. Mar Roxas getting married?

"Oh," said Korina, "that’s one thing you won’t hear or see in Bandila."
