Anyone able to watch last night's topic about call centers? What were the issues raised?

[COLOR=purple] After the show about the call center episode we have been getting numemrous feedbacks from people we don't even know. It's not that we are proud to be called employees without identities but thing is just like actors and politicians we happen to be employed in an industry where sounding good isn't a sin. One reason being the call center industry does pay well i am not disputing that but aside from that we have to think fast enough to come up with resolutions for the calls that we take and pass all the metrics demanded by our company or client for that matter. So I totally don't agree that just because you speak with an american accent you have to crucify people who work in such an environment. Yes it's true we speak with an american accent but it doesn't make us any less patriotic than those who speak filipino or tagalog. Or we have to be tagged dumb blond cheerleaders by some people who hasn't once in their lives experienced the kind of pressure regular agents feel on a typical day. More often than enough we can be called off-shore ambassadors because we remove the misconceptions that Filipinos are only good as domestic helpers or mail to order brides, not that i have anything gainst them mind you I don't, most of the people employed by these call centers are people who are well educated, literate and have post graduate degrees. And as what menice said, we are luckier than people who call themselves public servants but do nothing about how to help the country alleviate it's current position and do nothing but steal from the citizenry what is rightfully theirs. Might I remind you we have to gain the trust of the customers who call in,maintain a specific number of calls, come up with solutions we just don't answer the I am sorry but I work in a call center and this is what I think....... the analysis from Menice Yap speak of certain truths that we just working to be able to earn and sacrifice a lot in terms of time away form out families or missed holidays that we have celebrate a day after. aside from this we just don't have to speak well we have to be fast thinkers to be able to analyze everything that comes our way. our voice isn't just the "puhunan" or investment we need in our job. for the no age limit, you have to sound good and confident......but not all call centers don't have age limits...there are some call centers who are picky in selecting their agents. My heart bleeds for KristelJUST BE By Bernadette Sembrano The Philippine Star 05/07/2006 Little Kristel"Matakit." She was too young to pronounce the word Masakit right. Two-year-old Kristel sobbing from her scalded back, buttocks, legs and feet, exposing the flesh underneath. The unfortunate happened at the pier where she lives. While her pregnant mother, Erlinda, was resting in a hammock under a chassis truck, little Kristel was left playing at the rear of a parked trailer truck where their makeshift kitchen was, and accidentally tipped the pot of boiling water that fell on her. The day I met her, Kristel was covered with gauze that has not been changed for days. Every part of her body, except her face, was burned that it was impossible to carry her without causing her pain. I learned that on the day of the accident, the mother brought Kristel to the hospital but had her discharged soon after because they had no money. My staff and I volunteered to bring them to the PGH to have a specialist check on her. Erlinda hesitated. But one of her neighbors, Isang talked sense into her, so she finally agreed. Unfortunately (again), when we arrived at the hospital, there was no space in the burn unit. There were two more toddlers in the emergency room who were also scalded with boiling water. The doctor aptly suggested that Kristel be brought to the hospital every day for a week for cleaning. Erlinda immediately refused saying that they had no money for jeepney fare. We settled it to make it more convenient for them. We visited Kristel at the pier the following day, only to find her grimy again, with flies on her wound. Erlinda didn’t want to bring Kristel to the hospital anymore. She said she wasn’t feeling well, so she’d do the cleaning herself. Apparently, she did not. I featured Kristel’s story in The Correspondents last Monday and there were quite a number of people who wanted to help her get medical attention. My problem is the mother. It was clear that Erlinda didn’t care about Kristel at all. Frankly, I don’t know if poverty causes a mother to be indifferent towards her suffering child. Kristel is the youngest of six children, and Erlinda is pregnant with her seventh! It is heartbreaking that Kristel is going through so much agony, and it is a tragedy that another child is about to suffer the same fate. Some have inquired how to reach baby Kristel. Go to Pier 16 in Manila and look for the carinderia. She lives in the 1 x 1-meter cardboard house, on top of an old truck engine. To our readers, thank you for expressing your interest to help the Rosels at the pier, the family that lives under the chassis of a trailer truck, featured in this column last week. To those who watched Correspondents last Monday and wanted to help Baby Kristel, Maraming Salamat Po! Watch Nagmamahal, Kapamilya on Tuesdays, TV Patrol on weekends and Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, early morning, Mondays to Fridays. Movie-TV board chides ABS-CBN’s ‘Correspondents’ By Bayani San Diego Jr.Inquirer Last updated 05:57am (Mla time) 07/18/2006
Published on Page A2-1 of the July 18, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer AFTER the GMA 7 documentary program “I-Witness,” it’s the turn of ABS-CBN current affairs show “The Correspondents" to be reprimanded by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). The reproach arose from the program’s June 26 episode entitled, “Ang Pinoy Rasta,” which “featured the actual smoking of marijuana [of a young man] in the presence of his father who, in turn, confessed that he smoked marijuana with his son occasionally.” In a memorandum dated July 6 and addressed to ABS-CBN and the network’s Current Affairs head Luchi Cruz-Valdez, the board admonished the show because the scenes “seem to project that smoking marijuana is an enjoyable activity … sending a strong message that [it’s] okay.” Signed by chair Marissa P. Laguardia, the memo pointed out that PD 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) “prohibit the airing/public showing of scenes that tend to abet the use of prohibited drugs.” The memo required the network’s representatives to appear before the board’s hearing and adjudication committee on July 11. Charge disputedDuring the hearing, network representatives—lawyer Maxim Uy, executive producer Anna Rodriguez, reporter Rose Eclarinal and segment producer Ciara Sembrano—sat down with the MTRCB board of advisers, led by journalist Ed Sicam and lawyer Zosimo Alegre, and chair Laguardia. According to Laguardia, the station “disputed” the charge, which has led to another hearing set today. In a phone interview with Inquirer Entertainment, Valdez pointed out that the docu was a look into Rastafarianism—“a growing subculture." IntrinsicValdez explained: “Smoking marijuana is an intrinsic part of the Rasta religion. Tropical Depression vocalist Dominic ‘Papadom’ Gamboa and ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ housemate Errol ‘Budoy’ Marabiles were featured in that episode.” Since the network was practicing self-regulation, Valdez said, the program producers refrained from showing celebrities, who are considered role models, in the controversial scene. Instead, they opted to feature the unknown Rastafarian and his father. According to Valdez, the episode in question was aired at 1:20 a.m. and carried the Parental Guidance warning. The monitoring report filed by the board’s special agents on July 3, however, asserted that “scenes [depicting] the actual use of prohibited drugs are beyond the Parental Guidance classification and [therefore are] not fit for television viewing.” The board’s IRR states that material classified PG-13 cannot include a “depiction of, or reference to, prohibited drugs or substances and their use.” The agents emphasized in their report that the board also received complaints from other sources about the episode. Laguardia told Inquirer that since the network is contesting the complaint, it would have to undergo the usual adjudication process, which begins with today’s hearing. http://showbizandstyle.inq7.net/entertainm...rticle_id=10343

Adrian Ayalin bags Lasallian award One of ABS CBN’s respected young journalists – who’s currently part of The Correspondents, Adrian Ayalin has recently bagged the 2006 Lasallian Scholarum Award. He won for his feature story on youth and education titled, "Tugdaan". Meanwhile Gigi Grande, another ABS CBN Correspondent was also a finalist for her "Kayod Eskwela" and "Text on Air" documentaries.
Ayalin’s winning documentary focuses on "Tugdaan", a high school being run by the Mangyan community of Paitan, Oriental Mindoro. The Assisi Foundation headed by Ben Abadiano has been providing assistance to the group. Through this school 200 young Mangyans have been educated about the importance of one’s environment and culture. The school also aims to open the minds of the students as well as continually enrich and broaden their views on these issues.
Ayalin was able to cleverly weave a tale that is not only empowering but he was also able to pose a challenge for the government – to provide quality education for people in far-off areas.
The 2006 Lasallian Scholarum Award is an annual journalism competition which honors the media for its outstanding coverage of the youth and education. The award aims to generate awareness among various sectors including the government as well as private organizations to be actively involved in addressing the critical issues concerning the youth, particularly their education.
This year's board of judges included 2006 National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera; Chichi Fajardo, senior lecturer, Communication Department, Ateneo de Manila University; Isagani Cruz, Carlos Palanca Hall of Fame Awardee; Mayor Jesse Robredo of Naga City; Jose Mari Magpayo, Managing and Creative Director, Creasia Inc.; Ramon Osorio, President, Campaigns Advocacy and PR, Inc.; and former Senator Vicente Paterno, Chairman of the Board, Philippine Seven Corporation.

Ang Tugdaan, na siyang sentro sa istorya ni Ayalin, ay isang paaralan na pinapalakad ng Mangyan Community of Paitan in Oriental Mindoro with the assistance of the Assisi Foundation headed by Ben Abadiano. Dahil sa paaralan na ito, mahigit 200 estudyanteng Mangyan na ang nakapagtapos at nabuksan ang isip na matuto. http://www.abante.com.ph/issue/aug1306/main.htm
