It is true, when you look at what's happening. The economy of the country is partially based on handouts of OFW. I have to call it a handout because they are not saving the money for themselves..... They bring in the money that keeps a large percentage of our people alive.... Research shows about 70% of their remittance is used to support their relatives.... (housing, school fees, food and drink)..... The same research shows that every OFW provides for (on average) 4.8 people..... On average they send P. 150,000 a year.....

Imagine all that money not coming into the economy......

That's why the government is so very pleased to announce ..... remittance from OFW rose to an all time high!!!!! Without it the economy would take a turn for the worse.

So either way it's always malacanang lying. If they say PGMA has the full support, you'll say they are lying she doesn't have the full support of the soldiers. Now that there are incidents, you would also say she's lying meaning you don't think there are soldiers that are attempting to oust Gloria. Which one is it???

Better future for the filipinos? I don't think so. Because as days passes by, rich people here become richer & middle & poor ones become poorer now. Where is good economy here? Everything is going up because of this 12% VAT. Where are the tax payments that we paid go?

Take note! Aside from increase in VAT from 10 to 12 percent, gloria's administration has also increase the corp. tax from 32 to 35 percent. This means that Corporation would increase the prices of their products to cover the increases in our tax rates. Accordingly, middle income earner & the poor would suffer because their meager income would not be enough for their day to day expenses.

This is precisely what happens to a leader who has lost all credibility before the majority of the people. A legacy of broken promises and unfulfilled claims is the real culprit

It takes time my friend. The economy was on its way up in the beginning of this year, now it's in limbo but my forecast is that after the initial confusion and after capital realizes that we have a government that is dead serious about pushing through with economic reforms and political stability it would continue its recovery. And like i said many times, this government can sustain the economy's positive momentum by liberalizing our economy further and having a more stable, responsive political platform. This we could achieve via Charter change.

She never lost her credibility to the majority of Filipinos. The only exception are those still living in the 70's that are nostalgic about their hippy anti Marcos days. They are simply too old to realize that we are now living in a globalized world. In a larger sense, they are not "radicals" and certainly not genuine Marxists. For being one is acknowledging that we are in a state of constant change.

Agree. The opposition just wants fanfare about the minority disgruntled about her presidency. They want to run the country by themselves, or by someone they can 'influence' with so-called policies and strategies. And they know GMA has her own policy , they can't influence her.

As I said once to my foreign friends, 'Philippines is like many countries within a country or the world for that matter, and everybody wants to rule the world.

Yes a legacy of broken promises and unfullfilled dreams is one of the causes. The bigger problem is how the politicians are governing and how they are handling the economy. It is not just the president who is responsible but all those in government. Economic reforms aren't just needed but also a change in attitude towards the economic priorities and policies by both politicians and the people.

In business, the goal is to increase revenues and profits for your company and for your investors (shareholders, partners, etc.) So if you are running a business, your goals is to maximize profits. It is foolish to think that if you work for a large coorporation you would always benefit from increased profits. You may or may not depending on how benevolent the company is to the employees. Now if a company has to pay higher taxes that would decrease your profits, naturally you would move to a place where taxes are lower or to a place where labor is cheaper. Multinational coorporations can do that. Small businesses can't. So you need to balance business taxation and development.

The government on the other hand isn't really a business but still has to gain revenue somehow to provide goods and services to its people. The only way for the governmet to gain revenue is thru taxation and fees. Most successful companies are authoritarian in nature. Democratic institutions aren't like that you can't hire the best CEO but you get elected or appointed personel. So you may or may not get the best person for the job in government. So how do you monitor perosonel in government? You must make sure its transparent enough that people can see where the money goes, how is it used, and if resources are managed effectively. Unfortunately, politicians don't really want that.

China is growning economically because its an authoritarian government and takes advantage of that. Unfortunately it only benefits a few, those in goverment and those who have the blessing of the government. The masses may think they're benefitting but in reality they don't. Now, do Filipinos want a strong economy but less freedom?

For the average filipino, it's hard to make money in the Philippines unless your already rich or well connected enough to begin with. A majority of Filipinos are poor. It's hard to collect taxes from the poor. The middle class can't be taxed too high. The Elite class is taxed but then they have the know how and clout to shelter their income. So where does that leave the government for income? Where does that leave the average Filipino?

So you see, economics is really a complicated matter. Its not just one person who is responsible. Its everyone from people purchasing, producing, and guiding the production and delivery of goods and services.
