    Our Economy

Our economy is going down. Prices are going up the government should move to help our economy get back to it's roots. Business will not anymore grow with what is happening today. Even the oil price is increasing as we speak. mad.gif

The Philippines is in a hard place with the government not able to do very much and the country just has to roll with the punches it has to take. Of course with constant political squabbles and mismanagement of the economy it only makes things worse. Even if everything was to turn around for the better today here in the Philippines it would take a long time for things to recover to the point that the poorest people would feel it, the Philippines is in for a rough ride.

i predict a recession (yet again) even if the gov't won't admit this. the rising cost of fuel will stop us from consuming products and services.

i just wish the gov't can keep the cost of basic goods cheap even if it means to import them.

Errr.....'scuse me. What else is new ?

government should move to help our economy get back to it's roots.

oh, that is new....only thing is ....ain't gon' happen in a million years, not with the kind of 'nationalist' officials we have.

Even the oil price is increasing as we speak.

Oh, tell us about it here in the States.
A gallon of gas, unleaded, ordinary, (by that I mean the kind that doesn't "clean" your engine the same way it cleans your wallet), is $2.98, lowest, depending on which county and which state you're at. Californians, pay more please. After all you've got all those technocrats and Silicon Valley.

    Re: Our Economy

In my view, if youre a businessman, the political crisis is your ally because it would scare foreign investors, and you could monopolise some products/services youre selling. But if youre looking for employment then kawawa ka naman. I really havent thought about this but I actually read this in an issue of The Economist. I think it was a Russian tycoon who said this. He said that he likes the political instability in Russia before, because foreign competition is scared to invest. Therefore giving him more freedom to expand business.

    Re: Our Economy

Country growth rate (in GDP for the second quarter of 2005)
    RP 4.8
    Thailand 4.4
    Malaysia 4.1
    South Korea 3.3
    Taiwan 3.0

we just don't know what the future lies. but what we should focus on today is to look and support for ways to cushion the impact of the continuous oil price increase. i think the right explanation for that is that due to the domino effect of the oil price hike, almost every product's and services' price/rate will start increasing too. though it was discovered that our country has oil reserves, we haven't really developed it yet.

i think what you are pointing out is that our lifestyle may change. we will become more frugal in spending.

90+% (i think) of our oil resources are imported. the whole nation is very dependent of this product for transport. but, in fairness our dependence on imported oil supply decreased because 90% of our electricitification project comes from geothermal energy.

for your last statement, i believe the government i already doing something about it. it's doing the best it can to maintain the price of our staple food (rice) on its usual price. it's even monitoring prices of basic goods in the public and private market since agriproducts and other commodities are exempted from the E-VAT. canned goods will be repackaged and will soon be packed in foils for us to save more.

Youre right... life is going to be more difficult because of the Energy Crisis/Oil Crisis. Youre right again that the goverment should move to help our economy get back.... But then, each and everyone must do their share to help our country.

Thanks to the OFW, for their dollar remittance across the globe --- Thats our share!

Let MOVE on... Lets Work together for a Better Philippines.
