The Characters:
• Agatha is a writer, producer and the assistant director of a drama which was a joint project of the 2 leading television stations in Korea & in the Philippines. She has a tomboyish attitude & looks. She dresses like a guy, and her reason for dressing like such… “She’s always on the go!!!”
• Lee Dong-gun is a well known Korean actor. He’s shy & really quiet. He has all the physical aspects of “The Perfect Man”. The only thing he doesn’t have is his “princess”. He was single for a couple of years after breaking up with his showbiz ex-girlfriend.
• Ralph is Agatha’s ex-boyfriend. They broke up just months before Agatha went to Korea for the filming of her master piece drama.

The Story:

Episode #1: Away from you…
Setting: NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) Terminal 3

Ralph drives Agatha to the airport. He then parks at the droping point and unloads Agatha’s luggage. Agatha went down the car and reached her bags from Ralph.

Agatha spoke, “So this is it, Well wish me luck!” She then smiles.

Ralph replied, “Yah this is it, well hope you’ll find him soon.”

Agatha laughed, “Ikaw talaga! (You! Really love to joke!) I was asking to wish me luck for the series not for the boy hunting.”

They laughed and laughed. Until Agatha said, “Oh no! Sige na! (Go ahead) I gotta go now!I can see my boss there already.”

“Boss??? You’re the boss right? You’re the producer and as a producer you have the highest satnding right?” Ralph was scraching his head.

“No, what I meant is that the director is already there. I mean my duty as an assistant director.”

“Oh. Yah right you’re under him in that case,” Ralph pointing out the tall man carrying a lot of stuff, he’s lean & wears glasses & is one of the best television directors.

“Well, bye. Take care & don’t forget to look over my mom while I’m not around.”

“Yah, I will. You take care too, bye”

Ralph & Agatha made a goodbye kiss a friendly one. (beso-beso for short in pinoy slangs)

*Filipino culture know knows: beso-beso or friendly kissing was adapted by the Filipinos from the Spaniards. It is a way of saying hi or good bye to someone close to you. It is allowed especially if the person is a relative or a close friend. It is kinda common for all to do this.*

Agatha & Ralph actually broke up in a mutual decision. Agatha thought that it would be unfair for Ralph that she would have no time for him and that she would leave the country for a couple of months for the drama shoot in Korea. Since Agatha & Ralph broke up months after she received the project, they became close friends and started patching up things. (recall the scene where Agatha & Ralph met *at the school’s park* and the good bye scene wherein Agatha was saying the words “I think we should break up. I want you to be free while I’m away. If we really are ment for each other, they destiny would bring us together” Then leaves fall from a tree.)

Setting: Philippine Airlines Plane Commercial Flight

As Agatha sat down on the waiting area, Ralph’s head was following her sight. (Ralph in a very odd look with his neck elongated and his feet tip-toed) Ralph went inside his car after seeing Agatha safe & sound sitting on the chair. He was then stuck in traffic, until he saw an airplane & he looked at the time, and then he knew that was Agatha’s trip. He looked again to the plane so long & did not notice that the light turned green already. The cars were shouting out their horns at him. Until Ralph realized that it was already go.

Agatha was settled next to the director. She was wearing her big dark tinted shades and her headphones stuck in her ears. She wore them to prevent the director to talk about the drama & stuff like they just talked 20 minutes ago. The director would always tell her that the drama was really a work of art & that it should be treasured. Though it was a pleasing melody to her, she just can’t keep out the topic and ask something she should learn before thoroughly going to the business. He just can’t stop praising her.

He even always repeats the same dialogue which is, “Agatha, we really should make it the best series ever made. I sometimes do tell myself I have do good in this because if the series flops, it’s definitely my fault not yours.”

Episode #2: Now that you are here
Setting: Korea International Airport

Agatha felt exhausted from the trip & yet she feels excited to see her Korean crew & most especially the owner of the Korean broadcasting company who agreed to have the joint series. She was also tensed on thinking how she should talk to these Korean people that she would be dealing.

Two vans came. One was from the Korean station & one was from their Korea branch. The director told her, “Ms. Martines, I mean Agatha. Stay on the other van.” In reply Agatha nodded. She rode the van of their station. (She did not want to ride the van of the Korean station because she thinks she’s not worthy to stay there.) She sat in the van & the other crew members got in.

Her head was talking, “Should I… no, no, no bad idea. Should I be formal or normal? Wow that rhymes. Erase, erase, erase. Ah here’s a good question to ask myself, should I speak English or should I use my Korean Talking skills? It’s funny if I would put Filipino or Chinese as an option. Perhaps I should use English. So that everyone could relate, but if I see someone not particular of what on earth I’m saying better translate the whole thing in Korean after. Yeah I’ll just do that though I think I’m tiring myself. As usual Aggie… Try tiring you’re self & you’ll end up in the hospital not for practicing you’re real profession but for the hospital bed.”

She then smiles. One of the closes staffers who’s Agatha’s classmate, Gelai, was sitting next to her & saw her smiling like crazy.

“Agie! Agie! Huy! Agatha!,” Gelai called her. Agatha was shocked to hear her & she jerked.

“Ah … Bakit? (Why?) May problema? Asan? Ano yung equipment ba? (Is there a problem? Where? What is it the equipment?),” Agatha curious & still in shock that Gelai called her.

“Sis, Yang utak mo lumilipad! (Sis, You’re mind is flying again!) Teka? Iniisip mo ba na naman si Ralphy boy? (Wait are you thinking again of Ralphy boy)”

“Uy hindi ah! Why would I!!!” Agatha answered Gelai at once and she was so loud & all the staffers looked at her.

“Sorry sorry guys!” Agatha was then making a peace sign to all her crewmates. They all laughed.

“Si ma’am din pala, may topak din. Akala ko super seryoso lang po kayo lagi. Lagi kasi kayong tahimik eh. (I did not know that ma’am also has those weird thoughts. I thought you were a very serious person always. Because whenever I see you you’re always silent.),” One of the staffers laughing said.

*Filipino culture know knows: saying po is a sign of respect to elders or people in authority or even to people you are not certain if he/she is older than you.*

“Oo naman! Anong Akala mo sa akin! Si direk, Na lagging serioso kahit sa mga gimik? (Yes! Obviously! I do have a foolish-childish mind also. What do you think of me, the director? Who is always serious even at informal gatherings?) The last time I saw direk smiling was last alumni celebration when he was with Ate Biancs. (pertraining to the director’s wife) Agatha laughed.

“Di parang last year pa yun ah? Yun ba yung sinama mo ako sa high school ninyo? (Then that was like last year? Was that the time when you brought me with you in you’re high school alma mater?” Gelai asked.

Agatha nodded. They did not notice it but there were already near the Korea branch of their broadcasting station.

Setting: Korea branch of the Filipino station

Agatha got out of the van together with the other staffs & they carried their equipment. They went inside the building & the janitorial staff helped them carry the needed equipment for the 3 month long shoot.

“Hello ma’am Hello! Welcome!” The Filipino staffers who were based in Korea smiled & welcomed them.

“Ay no thank you its ok! I’ll carry it, Thanks na lang po (thanks instead),” Agatha resisting the help of one janitor.

“Ay naku ma’am pagod na po kayo. Ako na po. (Oh! Ma’am let me be the one to do it. I’ll carry it for you.) You’re ma’am Agatha po right?” The janitor smiled at her & asked her excitedly. Agatha smiled as a sign of saying yes.

After the janitors were led by the Korea based staff who welcomed them, Agatha then asked one of the staffers who was based there where the conference room is. She then was led to the room. She then shouted, “Oh guys tama na pag ka-amaze ninyo. Coference tayo everybody. (Oh, guys, stop being so amazed. Conference! We have to talk come on everybody.) Follow… iha (pertraining to the staff who was leading Agatha), what’s your name?”

*Filipino culture know knows: iha means little girl. You usually use iha for girls you don’t know. It’s one polite way of calling a girl smaller or younger looking than you.*
“Ah… ma’am Stephanie po. Steffy for short.” The staffer replied.

“Oh follow Steffy! Ha guys!” Agatha told them. Steffy smiled at Agatha.

The director then saw Agatha & shouted, “Great job! Agatha. You’re a real born leader.” The crew saw him & smiled at him.

“Oh sige una na kayo alam ko na kung saan ang conference. (Oh go ahead. I know where the conference room is.) I’ve been here for several times,” the director told them.

They continued walking. They reached the room & they all entered, including Steffy. Agatha then sat in the right side of the Head Seat / the corner seat where the director would stay. (in Filipino, Kabisera) She then explains why they went there.

*Filipino culture know knows: The big one (the boss or any elder) would always sit in the Kabisera as a sign of authority. And the second head or assistant would always take the place at the right of the head.*

“Guys. Pakiusap ha! Tino lang pagkasama sila. Pero siyempre kaibiganin ninyo naman sila, gawin ninyo silang komportable. (Guys, just a request! Can you be good ladies & gentlemen whenever we’re with them. Though you also should be friends with them, make them comfy.) We want them to know that we Filipinos are still hospitable even in a nother country.” They laughed.

The director came in. They then were served lunch. They then talked about some important points in the drama & also how to tell the story & explain why such thing happened to the characters whenever there were parts that would tackle cultural differences.

“Oh guys, you know why Janice asked Wacky not to love her anymore, right?” The director asked them in the middle of the discussion.

“Yes!” Everyone answered. Then a staffer raised his hand, “Sir! Sir! Sir, di ba po kaya ginawa ni Janice yun kasi feel niya aakalain ng iba na sinasamantala lang niya pera ni Wacky? Atsaka, kaya niya ginawa din yun kasi ayaw niya mapahiya si Wacky. Tama sir di ba? (Sir! Sir! Sir, isn’t it because Janice feels that people would think of her as someone who just wants Wacky’s money? And that, she just did that because she does not want Wacky to be humiliated.)”

“Well oo tama ka. Oh guys ayan ha! Siya na ang naka assign sumagot ng tanong na iyon,” the director said & everyone laughed. The talk lasted about half the day.

After the meeting they then went to the staff house just inside the compound of the television station. There they unpacked their things & set up the house that they would stay in for the whole time they’re in Korea. After un packing & setting up the place so that they would feel comfortable, the staffers cooked their dinner &

Episode #3:
Setting: The Way You Look at Me

After sleeping soundly in the staff house, they went to the Korean broadcasting station’s compound (just blocks away from their place). The other staffers stayed in the lobby, some just stayed home to cook food for the whole week (which was Agatha’s idea, so that whenever they got home late & wanted to eat the only thing to do is to reheat them).

Agatha, the director & the head staffers went to the hall where there the Korean station’s directors, chairman, stock owners & the artists of the drama stayed & waited to know them. There was also one Filipina artist, Delise, whom Agatha requested for the drama, she stayed in Korea for almost 3 months for a commercial shoot for a beauty product made for men & women. She was sitting next to a very tall guy, she smiled at Agatha and waved. Agatha smiled back and sat down near the director & the other Korean directors. Agatha wondered who that tall guy was. She sat while starring at Delise & the tall guy in tacked in his seat. The guy was talking to another Korean co-star sitting next to him. Delise saw Agatha looking at them. Delise then patted the guy’s shoulder & whispered something. The guy then looked at Agatha, it was the leading man of their drama. He then made a little bow at Agatha, she was so amazed & even did not imagine this to happen to her. The well known Korean heartthrob Lee Dong-gun bowing at her & looking at her, it was like a dream. She admire his acting talent & his charisma. She actually asked the Philippine station to ask if he could do the series.

One of the Korean directors stood up & introduced all the Korean directors the staff. He honored first the presence of the executives of their station, then his fellow directors, then the other staffers & at last the actors & actress. The team bowed and exit. The emcee then called the Filipino director. He then thanked everyone in the hall. The thanked the executives. Then he called his head staffers.

Dong-gun at that moment kept on looking at her & smiled at her. As if he was day dreaming. Is it something inside him that he can’t explain. He kept on looking at her without her noticing it. He’s eyes were really saying he is curious about her. She felt that someone was looking at her. She was then bothered and suddenly looked at his side. He caught him staring at her with his dreamy eyes. He then was shocked and turned his head in another direction. He suddenly blushed. Good thing Delise was not on her seat anymore & was with Agatha standing in the stage. She then also blushed with who she saw staring at her. She just smiled & turned back looking at the people who kept on describing her efforts.

He then called Agatha, “… And the most important person whom I may say is much important than me. I’m proud to introduce this talented, high spirited, hardworking, & kind person. My assistant director, my boss as a producer, my very creative writer & my faithful friend, all in one, please welcome Ms. Agatha Martines.”

The people clapped so loudly that Agatha can’t hear what the director was whispering her. She smiled & bowed gracefully to the audience. The clapping then faded.

Each side (the Philippine station staff & the Korean station staff) gave their thoughts about the story & presented some important points. The actors & actresses were really amazed with the script & was really awaiting for its filming. Everyone else was looking at Agatha. They can’t believe that as young as 25-years old, she made a drama that can be understand by both youngsters and adults. They really were amazed to even know that Agatha was not in the line of script writing, but in the line of medicine as a junior in her medical proper. And the fact that Agatha was only in her senior year in high school when she started making the series & ended it just last year and stopped studying for a year just to shoot the drama. The Filipino director and the head staffers continued praising Agatha.

“…Agatha is actually my co-alumni in our high school alma mater. She’s actually the one who informs me whether there would be events or even alumni parties. Her batch actually is the most active batches in our alumni circle,” The director describing Agatha as faithful to her alma mater.

“Well the drama really did imposed the Filipino values & the personality of Ate Agatha. She really is a genius,” the special effects staff told the audience.

*Filipino culture know knows: the word ate (which I always use in the domain & even in other forums where I know I’m not the eldest) is a sign of respect. It means big sister. If in Korea they use Onni for an older sister or to someone they feel close to it’s Ate for us Filipinos. It may also be used for someone whom you’re not certain of the age. So if someone calls you ate, don’t be mad. It’s just a sign of respect! Just be angry if you think you’re a guy & should be called kuya (the male term for ate)*

The session ended. Everyone was pleased with their presentations & explanations. The directors agreed to start the filming ASAP (as soon as possible).

Episode #4: Ang Tangi Kong Kasama
Setting: Location Shoot at a Park.

Agatha and the crew got up early. They ate breakfast, took a shower & rushed to the location shoot. Even though they still have jet lag, they were excited to shoot & see the outcome of it. As they always say, if the first shoot is good, then the rest will be as fine as the first one.

In the location shoot, they were astonished by the view they saw. Agatha wished that Ralph was there so that he would see the place they wanted to visit for a long time. Agatha remembered that she haven’t texted him for a while. She then gets her phone & texts him.

UY MUSTA NA? BESHI ANG GANDA DITO SA 1ST LOCATION, YUNG DREAM PLACE NATIN!!! BE… SANA NANDITO KA! TAKE CARE THERE & DID YOU SAW MAMA ALREADY? PLEASE CHECK HER FROM TIME TO TIME. THANKS. MISS YOU!

*Filipino culture know knows: Filipinos love using shortcuts, well if not all then SBCA students do (like me!). the use of “BE” in the text of Agatha was just a shortcut of “BESHI” nothing more nothing less.*

She then waits for the reply. As she waits she wonders around the set. She helps the crew members with the set-up. She then approaches the director.

“Direk.” The director smiled & signed to come near.

*Filipino / Bedista Alabang Slangs: Direk is a short cut for director.*

She runs quickly. “Agatha, tignan mo! (Agatha, look!) Isn’t it wonderful?”

“Direk, what’s wonderful about that tree? It’s old & already fading away its life.”

“No, not that! Look closely…” the director then points the bird’s nest.

“Ah! Now I get it!” Agatha smiled. Agatha then sees 2 small birds being fed by their mother.

“Seeing a mother caring for her child, what a wonderful site!” The director said in a very lively manner.

“Why direk, are you missing your family?”

“No, I miss my mom & my dad. Though I miss Bianca & my kids, I may say that I miss my parents more. Knowing that even I come back home I’ll never see them again.”

“Don’t worry Direk! I know that up there they’re guiding you and your family.”

“Yah I know that! Hey you’re beginning to sound like an auxiliary of the peace retreat movement.”

“Well, I’m an auxiliary. That’s why I know the school events,” Agatha then smiles.

Her phone suddenly vibrates. She then receives a text. It was from Ralph.

OH! BUTI NA TEXT MO AKO… OK LANG NAMAN KAMI DITO. KAKAGALING KO LANG KAHAPON SA MOM MO. OK NAMAN SIYA NOTHING TO WORRY. MISS YOU TOO. UY BAT MO AKO GUSTO DYAN? SABI KO NA NGA BA LOVE MO PA DIN AKO EH & GUSTO MO TAYO BALIKAN…. HEHEHEHE JOKE LANG! SABIHIN MO NANAMAN KAPAL AKO! SAYANG DAPAT KASI NILAGAY MO AKO SA LUGGAGE MO DI SANA KASAMA MO AKO…=)

(OH GOOD THING YOU TEXTED ME…WELL WE’RE OK HERE. I JUST VISISTED YOUR MOM YESTERDAY. SHE’S OK NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. MISS YOU TOO. EI WHY ARE YOU SAYING YOU WANT ME THERE? JUST AS I SUSPECTED., YOU STILL LOVE ME & YOU WANT US TO BE BACK… HEHEHEHE JOKE ONLY! YOU’RE JUST GONNA TELL ME I’M SO BOASTFUL! YOU SHOULD HAVE PLACED ME IN YOUR LUGGAGE SO THAT I WOULD BE WITH YOU THERE… =) )

Dong-gun then came. Agatha was then smiling because of the text she recived from Ralph. The director then pat her shoulder and pointed out something then while looking at that Agatha placed her phone back in her pocket, then they both smiled. They were laughing & naming the birds by using the name of their former teachers.

“Agatha, yun pa isang ibon oh! Sino yan? (Agatha there another bird! Who do you think it would be?)”

“Ah mataba yan. So it must be Ms. Reyes, yung English teacher na makulit na mababa magbigay ng grades.(Ah the she’s fat. So it must be Ms. Reyes, the funny English teacher who yet gives low grades.)”

“Oh yah! Can you imagine she gave me 78% as my conduct grade. She’s really mean you know.”

“Not just mean. I actually am a conduct awardee & I was almost not included in the awarding because of her. She gave me an 85% which is the lowest grade supposedly for a conduct awardees. I hate it when I remember her.”

“Me too,” Agatha & the director smiled at each other.

From a far distance Dong-gun was looking at them. He then thought Agatha & the director are really good friends or maybe… more than it. He then sat down his chair & the make up artists came & fixed him up for the shoot. The director & Agatha went back near the set. They were both smiling & seem to tell stories. Then they saw Dong-gun.

They both greeted him, “Anyeong Dong-gun.” They then bowed and smiled at him.

“Anyeong, well how is your first night here?” He asked them.

“It’s ok. We slept tight & woke up early,” Agatha said.

“Yet we missed our love ones back home,” the director added.

The shoot then started. It was the first scene yet, it’s only Dong-gun’s part. Though it was a solo part they were still excited to know if this would be a good one. They know that the only thing they have to deal with is the Korean staffs, Dong-gun & his co-Korean actors. They knew for a fact that he was easy to deal with & even has a Filipino bodyguard which is a proof that he can deal with them.

After the 1st scene, they had their break. Agatha sat with Gelai and the director on the other side. The whole Filipino crew were there. And because they were all from one alma mater , except for Gelai who was just there because of Agatha who invited her to join them, they sang one of their famous chants.

Dong-gun, sitting with the Korean staff, got curious about what they were singing & acting out. He watched them. After singing the chant twice, they laughed & started eating. Their meals were all Filipino cuisine. And because they so missed the Philippines they made it a point to eat as much as they could. They enjoyed eating. They even talked about their teachers in high school, knowing that they all came from one high school. They also talked about CAT (Citizenship Advancement Training) classes & officers. They were all laughing at the officers & making fun of them even copying them say “dahap” (means attention on command) and other CAT commands, but Agatha’s batch mates were just silent & laughing at their stories.

*Filipino culture know knows: CAT is required by the government though it is not that similar to military training, it is still required to 4th year high school students. (like me!)*
Agatha then said, “Uy, di naman lahat ng officers ganyan. (Hey, not all officers are like that.)”
“Teka nga pla, Agatha officer ka ba dati kaya lahat sila tahimik lang & kaya mo dinedepensahan mga officers? (Wait a second, Agatha are you an officer that’s why they are all silent & is that why you are defending the officers?” the director asked her.

“Well, di ako (I’m not an) officer nor MF (model flight). My ex-boyfriend is a CAT officer. And… and take note I’m not talking about Ralph here,” She replied.

“What Agie may naging boyfriend ka pa besides Ralphy doodles? (What Agie, you had another boyfriend besides Ralphy doodles?)” Gelai asked. Agatha nodded.

“Eh bakit kung umasta ka eh parang tomboy? (Then why do you dress like a tomboy?),” a staffer asked.

“Tapang mo ah! (Wow you got a brave soul there!)” Said the other staffers to the one who asked.

“Well, ok lang ba kung Makita ninyo akong naka dress tapos patakbo takbo? Ok lang ba na makita ninyo ako na nahuhubuan ng damit sa kakatakbo dito takbo dun? Well kung sa inyo ok yun sa akin hindi! (Well would it be fine to see me wearing dress & yet running from one place to another? Would it be ok if you’ll see me being undressed because of running? Well if you would say it’s ok, for me it’s not!)” Agatha looking at them with harsh eyes.

“Hey hey hey! Stop it now guys! Baka di tayo matunawan nyan. (Hey hey hey! Stop it now guys! We might not digest the food we ate properly.),” the director then told them.

The shoot started again after 5 minutes of rest. All the staffers were seriously looking at the scene they’re making. It even seemed that no one blinked. Then after several takes.

“Okay- Cut!” the director said. “Good take everyone. Thank you very much! Pack-up now…”

“Thank you that was a good start!” Agatha shouted.

The Korean crew started packing up. the Filipino crew just can’t wait to see their achievement. They got Agatha’s laptop & connected the camera as fast as they could. Then they saw their work. They were hooked into it.

“Dong-gun! Want to see our work. Come here!” The director then called him.

He comes closer to them & then was asked by the director to seat next to Agatha who was the one in charge of setting up the cameras (obviously the laptop is hers so she should be the one setting it up.) She then smiled at him. He did not make any gesture or even speak. They watched the video & were very pleased of the results.
