A relative in Sibonga tipped me that Sheryn Regis was scheduled to have a show in Sibonga last Saturday. A few checks and arrangements here and there and off I went to the southern town.

Sheryn had the Age of Play band for front-act and backup with Earl Echevarri playing the first keyboards. Sheryn immediately ‘connected’ with the audience by delivering her spiels in Cebuano.

She also went down the stage to get closer to the audience. Young pupils of the Golden Brains Development School (as young as five years old or even younger) were seated near the stage and which Sheryn joked as being her playmates and belonging to their age bracket with her petite size.

One of the kids named Pauline sang two numbers with Sheryn. At the tender age of five, Pauline already displays a lot of promise as a singer. She can hit the right note and she knows nothing about stage fright.

What a kid! She could have stolen the limelight away had she been allowed to sing more numbers.

Sheryn’s repertoire consisted of songs from her albums and teleseries theme songs which she herself recorded. She also gave in to requests including mimicking other artists like Zsa Zsa Padilla, Sarah Geronimo and Rachel Ann Go.

Would you believe she even impersonated fellow Star In A Million product Christian Bautista, complete with gestures and mannerisms to the audience’s delight? One number which she did impromptu due to a request and which displayed her other talents was the song popularized by the Pussycat Dolls entitled Don’t Cha.

Sheryn did not only sing it with gusto, she also displayed her terpsichorean skills. Atta girl! She also showed her support to budding talent by sharing the limelight with two other guests, one of which is a Philippine Idol contestant.

Oh, the Age of Play male vocalist is also in the Philippine Idol search. Good luck, guys!

Also tomorrow, Cebuana songbird Sheryn Regis (oh, yes, she’s the Crystal Voice of Asia, I almost forgot) will be sharing her gift of song that made her a household name nationwide in the northern town of Daanbantayan.

That is, if the plans did not miscarry (these were hatched during the concert that Sheryn had in the southern town of Sibonga, a few days before the town’s annual fiesta and shortly before I lost my previous cellphone to a snatcher).

The loss of my cellphone also cut off the communication lines between the organizers and the artist’s party. Sad.

Nayong Filipino producer Saeed S al-Ghanim is presenting a musical concert entitled “Best of the Champions, Live in Qatar!” on November 2 with the support of the Philippine embassy, Philippine School, NKQ and several Filipino organisations in Qatar.
The charity concert, to be held at Aladdin’s Kingdom, is to feature enthralling song numbers from two of the most bankable names of Philippine music industry, Erik Santos and Sheryn Regis, and funny, and light performances from the concert comedy queen, Ai-Ai Delas Alas.
The event aims to raise funds for Bantay Bata 163, a child welfare programme of ABS-CBN Foundation.
Bantay Bata 163 conducts different programmes that rescues and rehabilitates sick and abused children, and provides shelter, therapy and quality home care until they can be reunited with their families or referred to proper child-caring agencies.

what amazes most of sheryn's fans is her ability to render her lung-busting notes despite the small body frame! hehe..

and also, her amazing versatility and ability to change vocal styles to suit the song!

just this sunday, narinig natin ang 'aegis' side ni sheryn while singing to rivermaya's kisapmata... amazing how she pulled off a rock song without making it sound like a ballad with hard beats and a rock guitar

is she ready to include a rock song on her third album?

Cueshé, Sheryn to perform Sept. 30

COMING NEXT SATURDAY, "An Enchanting Concert of Crystal Voices featuring Sheryn Regis and Cueshé will be held at the University of Guam field house and will benefit two charities.

Cueshé comprises vocalist Jay Justiniani, guitarist and vocalist Ruben Gabasa, bassist Fritz Labrado, lead guitarist Jovan Mabini, keyboardist Jhunjie Dosdos and drummer/band leader Mike Manaloto. The band that left Cebu to pursue stardom in Manila has scored a number of top Philippine awards in the past year since coming out with its first single, "Stay," including the 2006 Smart Hitmaker of the Year award at the MTV Pilipinas Awards last month, Band of the Year at the SOP PasiklaBand Awards in July, and the Favorite Artist, Favorite Group and Favorite Song (for "Stay") awards at the MYX Music Awards in June.

Since its breakthrough with its debut album "Half Empty, Half Full," which includes the hit single "Stay," Cueshé has been keeping busy, releasing its sophomore album "Back To Me" last month and this month embarking on a tour that includes a show at SM Cebu just days before the Guam concert.

'CRYSTAL VOICE OF ASIA'

Another Cebuana who went to Manila and who achieved musical acclaim in just two years is Sheryn Regis, aka the Crystal Voice of Asia.

Regis started from a young age joining singing competitions. She eventually competed in the first "Star in a Million" show, though her highest finish was as first runner-up. Despite this loss, Regis accepted a recording contract from ABS-CBN's Star Records and released "Come In Out of the Rain," an album which carries the same name as the song Regis sang during her run in "Star in a Million." Regis last year released her sophomore album, entitled "What I Do Best."

Awards Regis has garnered include the 2004 Voice of Asia first runner-up and the 2005 Asia-Pacific Top Entertainer Awardee as Best Female Performer.

In addition to her successful singing career, Regis is also busy as part of the ABS-CBN morning show, "Most Requested Show" (M.R.S.). She was a co-host for the "Search for the Star in a Million" Season 2. She is also the host of "Little Big Star Cebu," which is shown in ABS-CBN's regional channels.

Part of the proceeds from the concert will benefit ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.'s Bantay Bata 163 program, which is committed to protecting the rights of Filipino children, and first lady Joann Camacho's nonprofit organization, the HOPE foundation.
