JEROME EXCITED ABOUT ERIKFREEHAND
By Mario Bautista
People's JournalFOR the first time, Erik Santos and Jerome Sala will sing together in a concert, "The Champs", to be held at the Manila Hotel on September 17, produced by Daisy Romualdez and directed by Jobert Sucaldito.
Erik won in the "2003 Star in a Million" while Jerome Sala won in this year's "Search for a Star in a Million."
"This is a dream come true for me," says Jerome. "In Bohol, I followed Erik's career since he first joined the contest and I rooted for him when won in the championship night. When I qualified the auditions and made it to the Manila, I was so glad to meet him in person. He's really my idol. Pareho kaming naalis na pero pinabalik sa show as wild cards. I now sing his songs whenever I have a show."
Erik says he's overwhelmed when other singers like Jerome tell him he's their idol. "Kasi I'm still very new like him," he says. "But it's an honor, of course."
Other male singers have branched out into acting, like Mark and Christian Bautista. What about him? "May offers, but I'm not ready for that yet. I'd rather focus on my singing first, especially now that I'm about to release my second full length album. I'm proud of it as I have a duet with Regine Velasquez, a new song penned by Ogie Alcasid, 'Bakit Ba Inibig Ko', and another one by Martin Nievera, 'Mystery'."
His "The Champs" concert with Jerome is a preview of more shows they'll do together, including a concert at the U.S. come October. "We're both excited with 'The Champs' as we will be singing with Jolina Magdangal. We're from ABS and she's from GMA-7, so first time namin to be together," says Erik. "The other guests in the show are Marissa Sanchez, Danita Paner, Chris de Venecia, Cong. Nonoy Andaya and Ed Zialcita, Sec. Angelo Reyes, MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, and Carissa Cruz."
