SCREEN TALK by : Letty G. Celi* * * UN A kong nakilala si Rannie Raymundobilang recor-ding and concert artist. Ang single niyang You are rhe One ay nag-no. 8 pa nga sa music chart noon. No more fitting pants na bumubukol. This time, sabi niya: “I am the real me!” Rannie’s music and magicA LITTLE BIT by : Remy UmerezA NEW company called Clue Productions is coming out with a musical play titled “Prinsesa Kalikasan.” It is very timely in the sense that mankind has been showing less concern about the current state of our environment. Pollution, illegal logging, oil spills are sins committed against Mother Nature. The casting for the play is almost completed as they have secured the services of singers Kyla and Rannie Raymundo to play the lead characters. Kyla fits the title role. As Princess of Mother Nature, her powers are obtained from the cleanliness and goodness of people around her. Her powers are magnified when nature is being taken cared of. Casting Rannie Raymundo as Haring Sakim, the King of Planeta ng Kadiliman who wants to overrule Prin-sesa Kalikasan and take over the world is a brilliant move. For the first time, the magician in Rannie will take centerstage. He will perform magic which Rannie only do on special functions. It is now for everyone to see if he is as good or even better than magician David Blaine. Singing and doing magic at the same time? This is something we would not want to miss. Another real magician who appears in this fantasy musicale is Herman Aquino as Ginoong Salamangkero. In the story, he is a Vanguard Magician from Mabuting Daigdig searching for a young child to start change and save the world from Haring Sakim. Voted as 2003’s Most Outstanding Illusionist, Herman is in charge of the production’s magic and illusions. “Prinsesa” (Hiwaga ng Kalikasan) is the first Filipino magical musical stage play to be staged at the Aliw Theater starting Oct. 17 to 22. It is the initial offering of Chester Luis Unlimited Events or Clue. http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?page=n...date=2006-09-16

At the moment, co-workers lamang sila who enjoy each other’s company.

December 05, 2006 06:56 PM Tuesday By: Remy Umerez A LITTLE BIT RANNIE’S MAGIC
SOMEONE wanted to know whether Rannie Raymundo would levitate on the stage of Aliw theater when the musical play, “Prinsesa” opens on Dec. l2. What tricks will he offer the audience? In the musical play, he plays the role of a wicked king with endless powers. Suffice it to say that Rannie will do a lot of flying on the stage appearing and disappearing right before your eyes. Don’t be surprised to find him seated beside you, an ilusionary act that will be seen for the first time on local stage and Rannie is excited about this. “Prinsea (Hiwaga ng Kalikasan)” is topbilled by Kyla who fits the role to a T. Tickets to the musical and magical extravaganza is priced at P700 and P500. You can buy them at all SM ticketnet outlets. For inquiries, call 911-5555. | Kyla, Rannie Raymundo star in a musical about environment |
 |
For the first time in Philippine theater, a musical stage play will be presented in a combination of fantasy, original soundtrack and a lot of magical effects.
Chester Luis Unlimited Events (CLUE) Productions will be producing its initial play entitled "Prinsesa: Hiwaga ng Kalikasan" from Dec. 14-17 at the Aliw Theater with a total of eight performances (2 and 7 p.m. daily). The play is about the struggle of Prinsesa Kalikasan which will be played by Kyla, who will try to save the earth from the disasters and calamities brought about by the carelessness of the people around them. But she could only do it if each and every living person has learned to value and protect his environment. But for as long as people continue to neglect such a natural role and destroy the world, Prinsesa gets ill and becomes powerless. Kyla is beaming with pride that she was chosen to play the role. She admits to being a nature-lover herself. "Even when we were kids, we were already taught how to protect, love and take care of our natural resources. It was even instilled in us to treat each living thing like our own people." "Prinsesa: Hiwaga ng Kalikasan" is proud of its cast, creative and production team. Joining Kyla in the cast are Rannie Raymundo who plays Haring Sakim, Herman Aquino who will be doing most of the magical effects and illusions in the play, Beverly Salviejo, Rita Iringan, Ate Gay, Patricia Ismael, Jeff Tam, Apolo Abraham, and John Lapus. Original music is by Noel Argosino and Rannie Raymundo, original story by Chris De Guzman and Herman Aquino, direction by George Sales. There will also be midgets, acrobats, dancers and contortionists who will bring color to the play. The objective of the ecology-inspired play is to instill into the minds of the Filipnos of all ages the importance of care and protection of our natural resources. For ticket inquiries, call ticketnet at 911-5555. A buy one take one promo will be given to students with ID for the 2 p.m show while familes or groups get one free ticket for every three tickets purchased. For patrons of Star City, 20% discount is given upon presentation of Star City tickets. The play is brought to you by Pervil Magic Cream, The Journal Group, White Beauty, Skechers, Holy Kettle Corn, Franz Burgers, Nissin Cup Noodles, Payless Pancit Canton and Magic 89.9 FM. |

As an artist hinahanap ko ’yung to be different,” sey ni Rannie. Klap, klap, klap for Rannie. Hindi lang si Rannie ang mahikero sa nasabing play, kundi pati sina Herman Aquino at Jeff Tam, kaya siguradong mag-i- enjoy ang mga bata from Dec. 14 to 17 sa Aliw Theater. MovieGoer Musical features magicians, midgets THREE REAL-LIFE, practising magicians in the cast of a musical play that promotes environmental protection, threaten to pull off acts of fantastic proportions throughout the play’s run at the Aliw Theater in Pasay. The three magicians, led by singer Rannie Raymundo, said they will surprise theater-goers with what should be the first act of levitation ever performed locally in a stage play. The willing victim, in this case, is R&B singer Kyla, who makes her theater debut via the lead female role of Prinsesa in Hiwaga ng Kalikasan. The play opens tonight and will run until Dec. 17 with two performances daily, one at 2 p.m., another a 7 p.m. Comedian-magician Jeff Tam and 2003 Best Illusionist Herman Aquino, who are also cast in the play, claim the combination of stage play-musical-magic show should be a big treat to audiences, including children. ‘This has never been done before in local theater,’ proudly stated director George Sales. Chris de Guzman, producer and co-writer of Prinsesa in tandem with Aquino, says the original Filipino musical also features midgets, acrobats, dancers, and contortionists. * * * MORE THAN THE VISUAL display of colorful costumes, magic acts and nature-inspired set design, Prinsesa makes a statement about preserving our environment. Rannie Raymundo’s role, as Haring Sakim, sums up the abuses mankind has rendered nature. Rannie, a pop idol in the 80s, said he had always dreamt of playing an off-beat role. The stage has allowed him one such opportunity. ‘Contravidas have always appealed to me. I thought they always had the better roles,’ Rannie said. The singer didn’t discount the possibility of playing villain roles even in digital films, which he acknowledged, are the ‘in’ thing these days. ‘I wouldn’t mind being in one,’ he added. Prinsesa: Hiwaga ng Kalikasan is the initial offering of Clue Productions. Producer de Guzman says that with this play, they hope to instill in the minds of people the need to care for our environment if we are to care for the welfare of future generations. The musical also stars veteran singer-comedian Beverly Salviejo (alternating with Patricia Ysmael), John Lapus (alternating with Ate Gay), singing champion Rita Iringan, Apollo Abraham. http://www.tempo.com.ph/news.php?aid=28385

Rannie’s music and magic
Walden Sadiri
Why can’t it be two? Rannie Raymundo is juggling two worlds: His music and magic. The singer-songwriter whose song "Why Can’t It Be" became the national love anthem in the 80s disappeared from the limelight of mainstream music and the concert scene after making his mark. His disappearance was like a scene from a magic show. The other side of Rannie is that he’s a renowned magician. But Rannie has not completely shunned show biz, he wrote songs and recorded albums without his fans knowing what he was doing. But Rannie had to end the illusion as he was raring to go back to what he does best: Singing. So Rannie returned and armed himself with an arsenal of new OPM songs that are sure to endear himself anew to his fans. Rannie was ahead of his time. He was a trendsetter, in fact, even before the acoustic scene flourished, Rannie was already doing acoustic performances. Rannie says the songs in the three albums he would release would cater to various musical tastes. Rannie shares he has recorded around 200 songs through the years. His last album, "Oras," was from Viva Records which wasn’t promoted. Rannie was generous to grant us a one-on-one interview where he allows to get to know him more up close and personal. Q: You’ve been a prolific singer-songwriter in the 8 years that you’re out of the limelight, how many songs did you write in 2007 alone? A: I don’t know but during the last quarter of 2007, from October to January, I’ve recorded 60 songs already. I just can’t stop writing! Q: How many albums will you release? A: My eight years of silence from recording albums would have produced dozens of albums if I decided to release everything. But I choose songs so I will be coming out with three albums this year. Q: What are these albums? A: Iba-iba itong mga album. The first one is me and Renz Verano who’s my best friend. I always want to bring my talented friends and work with them in my projects like this album. I believe in this guy and he is a powerful singer. This is a duets album catering to adults. It’s called "R&R" or "Rhythm and Rhyme" or you can even call it "Rannie and Renz." Q: What is it about? A: In this album I even tasked him to write songs at sumulat naman siya. It is about celebration of life, of friendship and about men. Q: Tell us about the other albums? A: There’s another duets album. It is me and 10 different girls. What is interesting about these girls is that walang kilala sa kanila. Q: So how did you choose them and how did you come out with such concept? A: Talagang naghanap ako ng mga talented girls. Some auditioned and some didn’t make it to the "Philippine Idol" or "Pinoy Pop Superstar." These are unheralded singers na mas magaling pa sa mga nanalo. Merong girl dito na from the barrio na mas magaling pa kay Beyonce. (smiled) There’s a song about father and daughter, a modern "harana," a song about serendipity. Iba-ibang babae iba ibang genre. It’s called "Rannie Raymundo Duets." Q: And the third album is about what? A: Ito naman pang-kawanggawa. It’s called "Musika ng Majika" and I gathered all the Filipino magicians. Ang purpose nito is for the endowment for old magicians as a tribute to my great great grandfather, Raidhu, who was the first magician of the Philippines. Lahat ng mga old people na ito kilala ko, they were my teachers and friends and they are not doing well. This is a collection of songs written by me, but some of the lyrics were added by the magicians. I’m the producer and I have two cuts here. This is the first in the world. Q: You said it is for charity. Explain. A: When you buy the CD, none of the profit will go to me. It will go to the Magician’s Foundation Inc.of which I’m the president. Q: What’s your plan for these albums? (laughed) These are all independently produced and I have a different way of marketing them like releasing them through coffee shops or a show. I’m not even concerned about piracy kasi we can’t do anything about it anymore. Q: So why are you suddenly visible now? A: All of these naman are food for the soul and the hopes na makarinig naman sila ng ibang genre and hindi yung di-kahon lang or kung ano ang uso. Q: But what kind of music does Rannie make now, because somehow what stuck in my mind is "Why Can’t It Be?" A: That’s my problem, na preso na ako dun. If you look at it at one angle, that’s good because I was institutionalize by one song. The problem is that hindi na ako pinakawalan. So my new albums will be a rediscovery of how my music has evolved for my fans and for new listeners a discovery of who Rannie Raymundo is. Q: Will you be having a magic show for the launching of "Musika ng Majika? A: Meron. I will have a show in May which is the anniversary month of Magicians Foundation Inc. I’m directing that show and writing the script. Ang theme ko for our 18th anniversary is "All Pinoy." Q: Internationally you’re known as a magician. But do you also sing during your performances abroad as a magician? A: What’s funny is that they only know me as a magician, they don’t know me as a musical artist. They know me as a lecturer and magician. Q: I’m surprised to know about all this, especially that you have your own DVDs on magic. A: Yes. All my lectures on magic can be read about on my website www.rannieraymundo.com. I even have a world record which is the production of 15 coins from my bare hand. The existing is 10 and I even small hands. Q: Is there a difference to the fulfillment you get from being a singer to being a magician? A: For me it is the same because the effect is the same. My brand of magic always has an emotional content. Which means, I leave something to my audience. Same thing with my music. Kung bumulusok ka lang ng musiko or naglagay ng kulot sa boses mo pero walang laman ang letra mo, nagyabang ka lang. That’s why the effect is basically the same – you make people happy and sometimes nakakapagpaiyak ka ng tao. It’s both exciting! Q: How does it feel that you’re recognized more abroad as a magician? A: It’s okay. It’s a funny feeling too because you feel that you’re a stranger in your own land! Aside from his albums, Rannie Raymundo will also be releasing his book on magic in the United Kingdom. His DVDs on magic have been produced, released and sold in England. And the irony of it all, Rannie even caught a vendor peddling pirated copies of his DVDs on magic in Quiapo. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR20080323120012.html

Music meets magic By Maridol Rañoa-Bismark Monday, March 24, 2008 There's something about music and magic that beguiles Rannie Raymundo. And it doesn't come as a surprise for those who know him well. The composer of many a hit songs, among them Dingdong Avanzado's Tatlong Beinte Singko, is born into art the way music and magic are products of creative minds.
"Music and magic follow a certain rhythm, a certain beat," he relates. "They require you to think out of the box." This thinking out of the box is what he has in common with top American magicians Michael Rubinstein and David Roth, Rannie's recent guests. The duo, renowned for their skills as coin magicians, toured the country recently to share their craft before fellow lovers of this art of suspended disbelief. And they couldn't agree more with Rannie about the close link between music and magic. "Magic follows a set sequence," explains David. "You must follow this sequence lest you get lost." It's much like the sequence of a musical progression; the natural flow of a melody takes. Michael, who also happens to be a veterinarian, sees the link between magic and the art of entertaining people - young people to be exact. He has seen it with his own two eyes while performing magic before children waiting for their pets to take their turn in his New York clinic. The two came to the Philippines not knowing any other Filipino magician except Rannie, himself a world record holder for his knack for holding the most number of coins (30, twice the record of only 15) in his palm at any given time. They went away impressed at what they saw. "Filipino magicians we lectured to are very enthusiastic," Roth and Rubinstein observe. And they see big possibilities where the art of magic is concerned in the Philippines. Rannie sees that, too. And nothing saddens him more than seeing fellow magicians wallow in the shadows, or worst, mired in poverty, for being the artists that they are. That's why Rannie has come up with the CD Musika ng Mahika, Mahika ng Musika with songs composed solely by these magicians. The CD was recorded and mixed in Rannie's home-based recording studio, Brattrax. Here, Rannie patiently got his fellow magicians started in the art of songwriting. When they met his words with astonishment, Rannie coaxed them, "Of course, you can write songs! Start with experiences closest to your heart." And they did. The result is the CD Rannie himself is promoting as independent producer. All its proceeds will go to an endowment fund for old magicians. "I don't want to earn a single centavo from it," Rannie reveals. "These magicians are too much of artists to think much about material things." And just to make sure they're well taken cared of, Rannie is organizing a magician's foundation, with him as president. Its headquarters are in West Greenhills. Rannie started the ball rolling months back when he performed magic in depressed areas in the metro where there are struggling magicians. Next month, Rannie and his team are scheduled to visit Tondo. He has also performed for charitable groups like Caritas and Skype Foundation. It's payback time for Rannie. And he gladly gives back the blessings he has generously received. "I have nothing more to prove at this point in my life," muses Rannie. "That's why I'm leaving my ego at the backdoor." Rannie also has another good reason for giving needy magicians a helping hand. His paternal great grandfather happens to be an illusionist known the world over for his swiftness of movement and talent for sleight of hand. "Magicians I meet around the world talk of him fondly and with reverence," reveals the proud grandson. This must be why Rannie was already wielding his magic wand at age seven and learning the art his great grandfather practiced so well. At an age when most boys his age were playing with matchboxes and miniature soldiers, Rannie was toying around with coins and other magic paraphernalia. Now that he has brought his magic coins to places near and far, Rannie can't get enough of seeing jaws drop and eyes almost popping out of their sockets when people watch his magic tricks. "The fulfillment is terrific," Rannie crows. "You're giving your audience an escape route from their daily worries." In other words, you make life more bearable, less stressful. And that brings us to Rannie's other point: Magic, he insists, keeps one young. Rannie may be 40, but life, for him, as, the saying goes, is just beginning. He'd like to share the same feeling with others the best way he knows how: Through his music and magic. The combination may be new, but it could very well spell the difference between a ho-hum existence and a day worth looking forward to. http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Entertainment&p=49&type=2&sec=31&aid=2008032313

So, to Rannie and Renz, good luck sa inyong recording business and R&R Sessions album. People's Tonight http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?issue=2008-03-27&sec=3&aid=53854

Showbiz&p=50&type=2&sec=58&aid=20080326197

NAGBABALIK sa concert at album scene sina Rannie Raymundo and Renz Verano. Sayang at hindi kami nakadaan sa launching ng collaborating album nina Rannie and Renz from their own recording studio na Brattrax dahil baka nag magic si Rannie. He-he-he! Cute kasing mag-trick and illusion si Rannie, no frills. Anyways, kahit magkaiba nga ng genre ang music nila, they came up with a fusion of their music in their R&R: Sessions album na mabibili na ngayon sa record stores. It has 12 cuts -- may solo si Rannie, may solo si Renz at may duet sila including Tirahin Mo, Paikot-Ikot, Walang Iwa-nan, Puwede Ba and Goodbye. The two good friends even asked a third common friend, si Lloyd Umali, to join them in one of the cuts in the album na Uwi Na Ako. For this album, may concert sina Rannie and Renz on April 26, Wednesday, at 9 p.m. sa Teatrino Hall sa Greenhills.
