I'm happy for her. Pops: Yes, I'm dating Jomari and that's an option A LITTLE BIT By Remy Umerez People's JournalPops Fernandez topbills the Valentine show, "Let's Talk About Love" on February 13 and 14 at the Captain's Bar of the Mandarin Hotel in Makati with Kuh Ledesma. How is it working with Kuh? "The first time I've worked with her six years ago for 'Power of Love,' I was so afraid dahil I have seen hearing stories that she is mataray," says Pops. "The truth about her, Kuh is a perfectionist. As a producer, she wants to give the audience their money's worth. During our first time to work together, she even gave me some tips on how to safeguard my voice dahil at that time I had a throat operation." For their new project, "Let's Talk About Love" there will be a little bit of everything: humor and lots of medleys ranging from Burt Bacharach to contemporary ones and selected OPM pieces. Don't be surprised if Pops sings Kuh's top hits. Her favorite Kuh song is "I Think I'm In Love." We noticed how extra beautiful Pops looks now. Well, is Pops in love? She is being romantically linked with Jomari Yllana. "Let me first define what love is," she says. "It's when one feels good because he harbors no ill-feelings for anyone. No, there is no special someone at the moment because it is not that easy to find the right guy who will not only love me but my two sons as well. Yes, I go out with Jomari and it is an option every single girl is entitled to." Pops sums it up by saying, "I think there's so much passion in me now as a performer because I have learned to accept and forgive." http://www.journal.com.ph/news.asp?pid=2&s...day=4&year=2006

Kuh and Pops: All about loveTHE last time they were onstage together was in 1999, when they teamed up for the successful series "Power of Two."Since then, fans have been waiting for Kuh Ledesma and Pops Fernandez to do another concert together – and after a six-year wait, the Pop Diva and the Concert Queen will star in "Let’s Talk about Love," a Valentine concert at the Captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Feb. 13 and 14. Kuh, who has teamed up with almost every major female singer from Zsa Zsa Padilla (in the long-running "Diva 2 Diva" series), Nora Aunor to Regine Velasquez, says that she’s been looking forward to performing with Pops ever since they did "Power of Two" six years ago. The "Power of Two" series was so well-received that fans clamored for a repeat. But with both Kuh and Pops busy with their individual commitments – which, for Kuh, included her TV shows like "ASAP," the "Diva 2 Diva" US tours, and the tribute to the late composer George Canseco – there was not time to do another show together. But this February, the much-awaited Kuh and Pops team-up will finally happen. "Let’s Talk about Love" will feature the two divas in a repertoire of classic love songs. As befits the intimate setting of their show, musical director Rey Cristobal has chosen songs that will reflect that feel. This show has been a long time coming. If you’re one of those who thinks so, then come celebrate Valentine’s Day with Kuh and Pops at the Captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Feb. 13 and 14 in "Let’s Talk about Love." For inquiries call Music Museum (721-6726), Mandarin Oriental Hotel (750-8888) or Ticketworld (891-9999). http://www.tempo.com.ph/news.php?aid=21128

Almost two years nang separated sina Brad at Pops. "I'm not in a hurry to fall in love again. Mas priority ko ang career ko. Gusto kong asikasuhin ang trabaho ko ngayon," tugon pa niya. http://www.journal.com.ph/news.asp?pid=3&s...day=8&year=2006

The workaholic Pops Fernandez By WALDEN SADIRIAside from being her mother, Dulce Lukban has also invested a lot on her ever since she started her showbiz career and this is why singer and actress Pops Fernandez would never shut her out from her life! The report has been that Pops and her mom had a bitter quarrel when the former got herself a new manager. She used to be managed solely by her mother but she is now under the Arnold Vegafria’s ALV Talent Circuit stable. "Don’t get me wrong. It’s not like my mom’s not part of my career life anymore; she still is. She still gets gigs for me and pretty much helps out also. Times have changed kasi. I think it’s better this way. I’m a workaholic and I want more jobs to come in. Kung baga, my mom and Arnold can handle the same things, they can get the same types of work for me so we can mix it together," she explained during an intimate interview at the World Music Room Family KTV at Promenade in Greenhills, San Juan. She pointed out that if her new manager books her, her mom will still get a commission and vice versa. And she’s very grateful that Arnold was very understanding with regards this agreement. As to rumors saying that her mom cried when she signed up with her new manager, it was because Pops didn’t tell her about it herself. "I think she cried because she had to find out from somebody else.I was so scared to shock her, hurt her and upset her that I asked my brother, three weeks before she found out to tell my mom. But I think my brother got scared too and he didn’t know how to start it so hindi rin niya nasabi," she shared. Pops also didn’t have to explain to her mom why she transferred management because she felt her mom already knew it would happen someday. "I admit that on my part it was bad not telling her immediately about my decision...that’s why some people thought we’re not on speaking terms…I think from the start she knows. It’s part of growing up also. She understands it. Again I think it’s just the matter of how she found out," she quipped. Under Arnold, Pops Fernandez’s fans can expect another album which is said to be produced by Ogie Alcasid. A TV gig is also underway and a major concert. ALV is also working out two films a year for Pops. Pops too will be touring again soon. Her manager also disclosed that her fans will hear a different Pops Fernandez in her upcoming album. Like last year, 2006 will be a busy year for Pops Fernandez. As Pops commented about her career, she simply chose to be always busy. Last year she found herself shuttling from city to city in the US. She also performed in Switzerland, Munich, Austria, Vienna, Sweden, Copenhagen and Milan! At the moment Pops’s gigs include Close–Up’s "Lovapalooza" in Cebu on Feb. 11, a special show at Glorietta on Feb. 12 and her Valentine show at the Mandarin Oriental’s Captain’s Bar with Kuh Ledesma and special guest operatic singer George Young, on Feb. 13 and 14. "I’m really excited about this show because it’s intimate. Usually every Valentine show I had before were in big venues so this is new for me," the country’s Concert Queen said. The concert entitled "Let’s Talk About Love," is presented by San Miguel and SMART and sponsored by Shopwise, Technomarine, Bench, Rustan’s Essenses, and World Music Room. Talking about love, the misunderstanding she had with her mom, the change in manager are all part of her showbiz career for which she has always been passionate about ever since she was started when she was only nine years old. Even her downs in the business are something she can be happy about. "I always count my blessings because life is great…I used to get disappointed and depressed when what we plan don’t happen. But I realize, these things are what makes life exciting. It’s just how we deal with them that’s important because it makes us better persons!" With regards to her personal life, Pops admitted that after attending the wedding of her good friend Andrea Bautista, she would like a wedding like that too. At the moment she’s dating and that’s what her lovelife is all about. Though Jomari Yllana’s name keeps surfacing, she reiterated that they’re just close friends and they do go out but that’s all. Pops first met Jomari when she borrowed a sportscar from him for her "It Girl" concert two years ago. They again met during a show she produced at Zirkoh for John Lapus and Jon Santos. According to her, she finds Jom very nice. As to her kids, whenever she dates someone, she tells her sons Ram (19) and Robin (15) about it. "Honest ako sa kanila because I want to know their reactions…whatever my relationship with a man is, I’m honest with them. I always explain to them before they hear it from someboday else," she remarked. As to her business endeavor, her Pipay brand will now be available in two more SM Department Stores making it a total of six outlets this year, which is a good way to usher in its third year. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2006021055961.html

Body Talk with Pops FernandezBy Ricardo F. Lo The Philippine Star 02/10/2006 "It’s always an honor to perform with her," said Pops Fernandez of Kuh Ledesma with whom she’s co-starring in the Valentine concert Let’s Talk About Love slated for Feb. 13 and 14 at The Captain’s Bar of Mandarin Oriental Hotel. "After all, she is the Kuh Ledesma. The first time I worked with her in Power of Two in 1999, I was nervous. Siempre, Kuh Ledesma ‘yan! She was already Kuh Ledesma when I started in showbiz. My idol!" Their two-night show may be titled so but Pops would rather not talk about love, except to make brief comments about certain issues she’s currently involved in but isn’t aware of the media to-do about them because, said Pops, "I have stopped reading the papers because the tsismis only puts so much stress on me." But what is the real score between her and Jomari Yllana? "Well, I admit we are dating but that’s as far as our relationship goes at the moment," said Pops. "I’m more careful about going into a serious relationship. Let’s just say that I’m enjoying what we have at the moment. I enjoy being single. No commitment. It’s nice to have a choice." Does being called a "Bagets Killer" affect her (because before Jomari, she was romantically linked to Piolo Pascual and Brad Turvey who are also younger than her)? "I should be flattered," she replied tongue-in-cheek. "Biro mo, I’m still attractive to younger men. Not all women my age are." Pops stands 5’5", keeps her weight "a secret," measures 35-25-36, and wears XS shirts and size 7.5 shoes. How do you take care of your voice? "Before a show, I try to sleep early. Lack of sleep can adversely affect your vocal chords. I drink lots of water, but not cold." Why, is cold water (or any kind of drink) bad for the voice? "With me, it is, although with some people it’s not. I know some singers who take ice-cream after a performance." How many hours before a concert do you refrain from talking? "Ideally, dapat several hours before. I try not to talk but it’s so hard not to. When you’re stressed, talk ka nang talk, di ba? When you talk, you use one set of vocal chords and when you sing, you use a different set of vocal chords." What kind of food is good for the voice? "I don’t know. But I don’t eat before a show so that I won’t feel heavy. What I do is eat a heavy lunch, enough to last until after a performance." Do you follow a regular diet? "No, I don’t. But I take very little rice. I try not to eat so much meat because I don’t burn it well. When I was on a diet, I ate very little during weekdays but on Sundays I gave myself a break and I overeat; lahat ng bawal kinakain ko." How much liquid do you take every day? "They say that you have to take at least eight glasses of water a day. But I take only about three. It’s bad because water is good for you. But I don’t get thirsty, eh!" Do you apply anything on your face? "At night, moisturizer. During the day, sunblock." What kind of workout do you do? "I used to play badminton with my kids (Ram and Robin) because it’s more fun. But not lately because I’m so busy." Do you take vitamins and/or minerals? "I take multi-vitamins and stresstabs." How much sleep do you get per night? "On a normal day, five hours. That’s pretty long for me. Even if I sleep late, I still wake up early. How do you cope with stress? "You know, stress can cause a lot of illnesses, so I try not to stress myself out. It’s hard to do that in a stressful field like showbiz. Since lately I’ve been in the news again, I avoid reading the papers so I won’t get stressed out." How do you relax? "I stay home and watch TV with my kids. Or we eat out. On very rare occasions, I cook. Pero very rare ‘yan." What do you cook for Jomari? "None! I’d rather not... Baka matakot ‘yon at hindi kainin." What’s your favorite hideaway (or city)? "Actually, none. My home is my favorite hideaway. Once home with my kids, I always tell myself, ‘This is real!’ and that gives me a lot of comfort." What part of your body is your favorite? "My butt. Nice daw, sabi nila. It’s original." What part of your body is most vulnerable? "My skin. That’s why even if I like the sun, I try to avoid it. My skin is very sensitive. A little scratch can turn into a big rash." What part of your body do you think needs some improvement? "My thighs. Medyo malalaki." What part of a guy’s body do you look at first? "His eyes. You can tell what kind of a person one is just by looking him straight in the eye." What’s your favorite sleeping wear? "Pajamas." What’s the last thing that you do before you go to sleep? "I pray." And the first thing that you do when you wake up? "I thank God for a new day." Name three men you think have nice bodies. "Brad Pitt. Marc Nelson. Johnny Depp." And three women... "Angelina Jolie. Jennifer Aniston. Gina Alajar who, I think, knows how to take care of her body. Everytime I see Gina, she’s the same. She doesn’t seem to grow old." Using body language, how would you make a guy know that you admire/like him? "I try not to talk to him because I get dyahe. I can’t look at him. I just steal glances at him." (Note: For ticket inquiries and reservations, call the Music Museum at 721-6726, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at 750-8888 or Ticketworld at 891-9999.) Sunday, February 12, 2006 KUH LEDESMA & POPS FERNANDEZLove, music and friendship, seven years sinceBy Rome Jorge The most beautiful friendships grow between mentor and protégé, veteran and newcomer, idol and rising star. With the passing of years the difference in experience matters less and cherished times spent together mean more. The counselor becomes the confidant; the pupil becomes the equal; and the icon becomes the friend. The first time Concert Queen Pops Fernandez performed with Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma in 1997, she was dead nervous. Ledesma, after all, was by then already a veteran singer with 16 years of experience, hit songs such as “Ako ay Pilipino” and “I Think I’m in Love,” more than a dozen records—many of which garnered platinum and gold album sales—as well as lead roles in the critically acclaimed ballet Rama Hari, and movies such as the all-time Filipino cinema classic Oro Plata Mata and the Hollywood film starring Mel Gibson, The Year of Living Dangerously. Fernandez, apparently, had then only met Ledesma through interviews as a young upstart host on the television show Discorama. Further chipping away at the young Fernandez’s confidence was a throat problem she had at the time of the scheduled performances. “I didn’t want to sing,” confesses Fernandez. But as she recalls, “Kuh kept giving me advice and confidence. She told me, ‘Don’t strain yourself,’ and ‘Sing from the diaphragm.’” Such was Ledesma’s wisdom. Their concert then, titled “Power of Two,” was so well received that fans clamored for a repeat. But fame and fate conspired to keep the two artists apart since they had to attend to their careers. Fernandez went on to cement her claim as the “Concert Queen” with lavish spectacles at large arenas such as 2000’s “Shindig” that filled the rafters at the Ultra, scored memorable hits like “Don’t Say Goodbye,” and movies such as Videoke King with Robin Padilla. Ledesma, in turn, made a brief foray into politics and rediscovered her spirituality. But now, after seven long years, fans and lovers will finally get what they want. “Let’s Talk About Love,” the Valentine’s concert of Kuh Ledesma and Pops Fernandez, features duets and individual performances with the best of songs from “Power of Two,” Burt Bacharach and Barry Manilow medleys, and well-loved pop-operatic performances by McDonald’s kingpin George Yang at the Captain’s Bar of The Mandarin Oriental Manila on February 13 and 14. How times have changed. And it’s all for the better. Fernandez reveals, “I’m more comfortable working with her. The respect is always there. But now I know she’s ‘touchable.’ I’m privileged to know her more.” Ledesma testifies, “Pops has always been easy to work with. She’s a very nice person.” Fernandez, much like Ledesma, has grown more beautiful still. Today, one can hardly tell the difference in age or stature between the two. Both look decades younger than their years. More than ever, these two are svelte, stylish and sultry. Up close and personal, the two have warmth that belies their regal re######tion. No prima donnas these divas are. In between rehearsal takes they welcome questions with poise and calm. And they open up. Fernandez now finds that both of them share many things in common. “She’s also been misjudged in the past,” she observes. They have been victims of rumors that pry into their personal lives. Yes, the two are close friends. Careful not to delve too deeply into details, Fernandez explains, “We have similar likes. But we’re also kind of different.” Then as now, she reveals, “We share stories. We’ve been through the same kind of stories in our love life.” Ledesma also admits still giving her friend what she concedes is “unsolicited advice.” To which Fernandez playfully replies, “I’ll listen but it’s not like I’m always going to follow you.” She notes, “Hers is the concern of a friend.” But though working together now is even easier than it was six years ago, Fernandez opines, “It’s more challenging. It’s an intimate show,” she says of the Mandarin concert. “Different from those in large venues. You can see the audience up close, almost touching them.” Without dancers and complex stage designs, the performances at the Captain’s Bar feature songs sung with a naked heart. “Let’s Talk About Love” is exactly as its title says, featuring candid audience interaction and heartfelt repartee between two performers. But though their concert promises to be a romantic event for lovers among their audiences, Fernandez confesses, “For us performers, Valentine’s is a work day.” Nevertheless, for this Valentine’s, she wishes “more happiness.” She adds, “I found who I am and I like it. I am happy where I am.” Together with Kuh Ledesma onstage this Valentine’s is what Pops Fernandez and any performer would want to be. That’s talkin’ about love. http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2006/f...60212week1.html

Kuh, Pops in most awaited Valentine concert Crispina Martinez BelenDefinitely one of the most awaited Valentine shows is that of pop diva Kuh Ledesma and concert queen Pops Fernandez. Their concert, entitled "Let’s Talk About Love," happens tonight and tomorrow at the Captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. We say most awaited for obvious reasons. Because aside from their topnotch musicality and showmanship, both Kuh and Pops have always been hot copies. Especially so with Pops these days because of her allegedly romantic involvement with actor Jomari Yllana. The last time Kuh and Pops were onstage together was in l999, when they teamed up for the successful series "Power of Two." Since then, fans have been waiting for Kuh and Pops to do another concert together — and after a six-year wait, here they come with "Let’s Talk About Love." Kuh, who has teamed up with almost every major female singer from Zsa Zsa Padilla (in the long-running "Diva to Diva" series), Nora Aunor to Regine Velasquez, said that she’s been looking forward to performing with Pops ever since they did "Power of Two" six years ago. The "Power of Two" series was so well-received that fans clamored for a repeat. But with both Kuh and Pops’ busy with their individual commitments — which for Kuh included her TV shows like "ASAP," the "Diva to Diva" US tours and the tribute to the late composer George Canseco — there was really no time to do a show together. Until this February, with "Let’s Talk About Love." "Let’s Talk About Love" will feature the two divas in a repertoire of classic love songs. As befits the intimate setting of their show, musical director Rey Cristobal has chosen songs that will reflect the feel. The show has been long in coming. If you’re one of those who thinks so, then come celebrate Valentine’s Day with Kuh and Pops at the Captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel today, Feb. 13 and 14 in "Let’s talk About Love." http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2006021356188.html

Surprise party for Dulce
IF I KNOW By Aster Amoyo People's JournalFormer actress Dulce Lukban, who turned 60 last February 3, was treated to a surprise intimate birthday party by his eldest daughter, Pops Fernandez, last Saturday (Feb. 4) evening held at the Architectural Center Club in Rockwell, Makati city. The affair was attended by Dulce's children — Pops, Edwin, Jocelyn and Joey, granchildren Robin, Ram and Erika and Dulce's close friends outside showbiz. Pops and son Ram sung a duet with Robin accompanying them on guitar. Pops, Edwin, Joey and Jocelyn also gave their respective birthday messages for their mom who was teary-eyed that evening. "Honestly, I'm so happy. This really came as a big surprise to me. Talagang naitago nila ang preparation nang wala akong nalalaman. Kamuntik na nga akong magtampo sa mga anak ko dahil wala akong mahagilap sa kanila last Saturday," she relates. Dulce's close friend Liza Alvendia invited her out for dinner Saturday evening not knowing that she was in cohort with Pops. Somebody whispered to us that Jomari Yllana was coming but he arrived after we left. Sila nga talaga ni Pops ngayon. http://www.journal.com.ph/news.asp?pid=2&s...ay=13&year=2006

Pops Admits She and Jomari Are DatingPops Fernandez admits that she and actor Jomari Yllana are in the "very much dating process." "Hey, this makes life more exciting so please, let it be," she told reporters. Asked to react on negative comments from some of her fans about her going out with Jomari, she said, "Hurt ako. I just feel that I have been in this business too long that I am entitled to a little bit of respect." She added: "As long as the people who matter know what's going on in my life. I'm fine. My kids know the truth and that's good enough for me." Pops denied rumors that she has been neglecting her two sons because of Jomari. She said her ex-husband Martin Nievera also knows what's going on. "Not that I needed to explain to him. But he knows. He listens, in the same way that I listen to him when he tries to tell me something." Jomari’s marriage to Aiko Melendez has been annulled. Aiko was set to marry Martin Jickain, a model who is years younger than she, last Feb. 16 but the wedding was cancelled at the last minute. As to Piolo Pascual’s revelation that they dated three years ago, Pops said, "That's true. I really don't know why ngayon pa naungkat. But that was just for a very short time only. Hindi natuloy."http://www.planetphilippines.com/

A repeat for Kuh, Pops’ ‘Let’s Talk About Love’
It’s been noted that Kuh Ledesma has done very well in pairing up with the so-called "divas" of local music. Her team-up with Zsa Zsa Padilla in "Diva 2 Diva" is now one of the longest-running concert series to date, wowing audiences all over the world more than two years after it opened at the PICC.
Last Valentine’s Day, it was "Concert Queen" Pops Fernandez’s turn to share the limelight with Kuh in "Let’s Talk About Love" at the Captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. As most concerts go, everyone knew this was a winner from the start because of the fact that it had Kuh and Pops in it - and true enough, the two did not disappoint. From their opening song to the last, Kuh and Pops consistently showed why they are among the best female performers in the business.
Kuh and Pops treated the Captain’s Bar audience to a sampling of some of the best and most romantic songs in their repertoire. Among the most applauded portions of the concert were their renditions of "Love Moves," a beautifully-arranged duet of "Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo" and "Paano," a Barry Manilow medley ("Ready To Take A Chance Again" and "If I Should Love Again") and a Burt Bacharach medley ("Make It Easy On Yourself," "Wives and Lovers" and "Promises, Promises").
The solo numbers were just as impressive. The audience particularly loved Pops’ performance of hits by the 80s group Swing Out Sister, including "Breakout" and "Waiting Game" and her "CCC Medley" featuring hits of three composers whose last names begin with the letter "C". George Canseco ("Ikaw"), Ryan Cayabyab ("Kailangan Kita") and Willy Cruz ("Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas").
Kuh, meanwhile, drew a standing ovation when she brought audiences back to the 80s with the early romantic hits of her career in "I Think I’m In Love" (during which a lot of people in the audience were singing along with her) and "One More Try."
Another revelation during the show was the presence of Kuh and Pop’s special guest, McDonalds Philippines president George Yang. Yes, believe it or not, this high–powered businessman proved he could hold his own against the "Pop Diva" and the "Concert Queen" as he joined them onstage in several special numbers.
