Nikki Gil turned to be a competent daily host of "Pinoy Dream Academy" at primetime. She has an engaging presence and is very articulate in delivering all her spiels, just like Toni Gonzaga in "Pinoy Big Brother." Now, she tries acting in "Star Magic Presents" in the episode "Love and the City," where she’s paired with Geoff Eigenmann. "I’m comfortable with Geoff as we go the same church," she says. "But what really excites me is that the episode is directed by the award-winning Joel Lamangan. I knew I’d learn a lot from him about acting and I did."

"Love in the City" is the story of Trina (Nikki) and Sonny (Geoff.) Sonny is a rich guy from the province who tries living in the big city where he meets Trina, a street smart girl who teaches him on how to survive city life. He eventually falls for her, but Trina is not interested as her goal is to migrate to America and she’s willing to pay an American who’d be willing to marry her so she can live there. Sonny then sells his pet cow and gives the money to Trina so she can arrange her marriage of convenience. Somehow, he’s hoping she won’t accept the money, but she does, and he’s heartbroken and goes home to the province. Will love find a way to reunite the couple? Find out this Saturday at "Star Magic Presents," 5 p.m. on ABS-CBN.

BINIGYANG-PRAYORIDAD muna ni Nikki Gil ang kanyang pag-aaral sa Ateneo bago siya nagdesisyong mag-concentrate sa showbiz. Naging maganda naman ang resulta ng choice niya kaya napasama siya sa Dean’s List ng mga mahuhusay na estudyante this year, huh!

Ngayong maganda na ang estado ni Nikki sa school, hindi na siya masasabing reluctant star ng ABS-CBN komo nga tatlong shows na ang sinalihan niya sa network.

Despite Nikki’s busy sked sa school, kanya pa ring naisisingit ang schedules ng guesting niya sa ASAP, Pinoy Dream Academy at sa maambisyong fantaserye na Rounin.

Aba, sa ginawang pagsusunog ng kilay ni Nikki para sa studies niya, dapat lang siyang tularan ng ilang kabataang tinalikuran ang studies dahil sa kasikatang natatamo sa showbiz, huh!

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS FOR NIKKI

OTHER stars stop going to college once they join showbiz. Not so in the case of Nikki Gil. She was actually a reluctant star who took a year to decide if she’d be managed by Star Magic. Now, she’s busy hosting “ASAP” on Sundays and “Pinoy Dream Academy” every night on primetime. She is also trying acting taping for the action series, “Rounin”. But even if she’s now up to her neck with work, she has not neglected her studies and her mom, Julie Gil, happily reports that she’s now in the dean’s list in her school, the Ateneo. You can say she’s really having the best of both worlds: showbiz and school.

Modelong Anak Si Nikki

Nakilala si Nikki Gil sa commercial ng Coke. Siya yung dalaga na nag aabot ng Coke sa mga nakakasalubong niya habang siya ay kumakanta. Ang Coke commercial ni Nikki ang dahilan kung bakit nakapasok siya sa mainstream ng showbiz.

Pero alam n’yo ba kung saan na-discover itong si Nikki? Namataan siya ng isang talent scout habang kumakanta ng Christmas song sa Alabang New Life Christian Center, kung saan siya choir member.

Maituturing na magandang ehemplo ng mga kabataan si Nikki. Kahit na busy siya sa kanyang showbiz career, hindi pa rin niya pinababayaan ang kanyang pag-aaral. Iilan na lang kasi sa mga kabataang artista ngayon ang kayang pagsabayin ang pag-aartista at pag-aaral.

Bukod sa pagiging magaling na singer, VJ ng MXY at host ng “ASAP” at “Pinoy Dream Academy,” isa rin matalinong eastudyande si Nikki. Sa kasalukuyan ay third year college na si Nikki sa Ateneo de Manila at kumukuha ng kursong AB English Literature. At nabalitaan naming na ngayong taon ay nasa Dean’s List si Nikki.

Halos nakuha na ni Nikki ang lahat ng katangian ng isang modelong kabataan --relihiyoso, may nag uumapaw na talent at masipag na estudyante. Masuwerte ang mga magulang ni Nikki.

Daghan ang nahimuot ni Nikki Gil tungod kay bisan sa iyang ka- busy, duna gihapon siyay panahon sa iyang pagtuon. Never nga mi-absent si Nikki sa iyang klase sa Ateneo University, diin third year siya sa kurso nga Literature.

Kahinumduman nga mitapos isip valedictorian si Nikki sa high school diin classmate sila ni Geoff Eigenmann kinsa miangkon nga nangulitawo siya sa dalaga.

Si Nikki usab miangkon nga dihay higayon nga nagka-relasyon sila ni Gabriel Valenciano.

Labihan ka-busy ni Nikki sa milabay'ng tulo ka buwan diin host siya sa bag-o pa lamang nahuman nga Pinoy Dream Academy (PDA), ug matag Dominggo duna siyay ASAP ug VJ usab siya sa MYX.

Sa dili madugay makita na usab si Nikki sa bag-ong anime-fantaserye sa ABS-CBN, Rounin, diin partner niya si Geoff. Mga co-stars nila sila si Diether Ocampo, Agot Isidro, Angelica Panganiban, Rafael Rosell, Joross Gamboa ug Shaina Magdayao.

Stars’ tribute to Johnny Manahan 

Director, starmaker, mentor, father, second father, showbiz icon—just a few appellations that Johnny Manahan or Mr. M is called. Having been in showbiz for more than 30 years, he has witnessed many stars rise and fall. For the longest time, he has dealt with stars on a director-talent level but for the past 15 years, as a manager-talent, being ABS-CBN Star Magic’s (formerly the Talent Center) senior vice president, Mr. M started in television with pre-Martial Law ABS-CBN. He transferred to Channels 9 and 13 to work on the children’s show Kaluskos Musmos and the sitcom Chicks to Chicks and returned to ABS-CBN when it re-opened in 1986. The re-launch was successful but the problem was, there had no stars because they were under contract with Regal, Seiko, and Viva. It was April 1992 when then ABS-CBN president and chief operating officer Freddie Garcia and Johnny Manahan hatched the idea of creating a stable of new stars exclusively for ABS-CBN. October that same year, Ang TV, the hit youth afternoon show was launched. The TV series opened the door for the likes of the young Claudine Barretto, Jolina Magdangal, Camille Prats, Victor Neri, Paolo Contis, and many more to showbiz. Later in November 1995, Star Circle Batch 1 was launched, led by the late Rico Yan.

NIKKI GIL: First impression ko sa kanya, nakakatakot because he handles the big stars in the industry. He has high standards pero once you get to know him he’s a gentle giant. He is the man with a gentle heart. Ipagtatanggol ka niya talaga. Huwag mo siyang kakalabanin. He really loves his flock. As a co-worker, he is very pleasant and professional. One advice he gave me was “don’t mind what other people think about you as along as you do your thing, find your own niche and do your best, everything will be okay.”

Gary V. talks about breakup of son Gab with Nikki

Gary admits meddling with his children's love affairs.

"Always." Ito ang tanging nasambit ni Gary Valenciano nang tanungin kung pinapakialaman niya ang lovelife ng kanyang mga anak, lalo sa relationship noon ng kanyang anak na si Gabriel kay Nikki Gil.

"I told him, ‘Son, especially in show business, the best thing to do is a cliché, dapat magkaibigan muna kayo. You see, friendship can last long in showbiz. So when you are able to build up good relationship based on good friendship, no matter what happens ten, twelve years from now, you will still be friends. And if it's meant for you guys to still be together, then that's it,'" pagse-share ni Gary during the press con na ibinigay ni Mother Lily Monteverde para kay Senator Kiko Pangilinan, kapatid ng asawa ni Mr. Pure Energy na si Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano.

Malaki rin ang panghihinayang ni Gary na nauwi sa hiwalayan ang relasyon nina Gab at Nikki dahil nakita nito kung gaano kasaya ang dalawa noon.

"Because I have seen how she has made Gabriel smile and I have seen how Gab made her smile. And there's that, you know, feeling of parang there's much light in their eyes. And I love Nikki, her father is with me in a Bible study every Thursday morning and, of course, she's in ASAP and I support her," kuwento ni Gary.

Sa kuwento ni Gary ay halatang mayroon pang pagmamahal na natitira sa kanyang anak para kay Nikki.

"I think now, probably what he feels for her is what I told him before. This is what you should feel, yung concern as a friend, as a brother in Christ and somebody who can joke around with you, and you can joke around with and there can be no.... I mean, may selos, e. That there would not be any worry about emotions developing again. You just treat him like a friend and let time play its role and then we'll see," paliwanag pa ni Mr. Pure Energy.

Natuwa rin si Gary nang minsan nagkausap sila ni Nikki at sinabi nitong dapat lang mag-move on na sila ni Gab. Sinabi pa raw ng dalaga na dapat nilang lawakan ang pananaw nila sa mundo. They have to see, and meet other people and then later on, they will be able to realize kung sila ba talaga ang para sa isa't isa.

"If you stop that, if you stop young people from going out and meeting other people as friends, ah, you will always come up with someone and meet someone na this person has strength na yung kakilala ko wala. You have to let them meet people," ani Gary.

Dagdag pa niya, "For me as this point, I think they have grown up enough to know that they will always be friends. Now if it's meant for them to be anything else later on, you know, I will not stop them because I really love the two of them.

"Gab is my son and Nikki is not only a colleague in ASAP, but we both go to the same church, so we always share a lot in common," pagtatapos na ni Gary.

NIKKI Gil earlier said she wants to focus on singing and hosting. How come she’s now acting in “Rounin,” where she plays Leal, one of the five top Rounins who has a complicated past and who turned her back on the man she loves, Geoff Eigenmann, to become a tough warrior?  “After I read the script, I realized it’s something different from other fantaseryes and will surely make an impact on Philippine TV,”  she says. “Sayang naman if I’d not be a part of it. I think this is the right project for anyone to start an acting career.”
   
The other four Rounins are Luis Manzano as Juris (no, he’s not a member of the MYMP), Angelica Panganiban as Aura (love interest of Juris), Rafael Rosell as Creon (who’s also secretly in love with Aura), and Jhong Hilario as Venom (whose identity is shrouded with mystery.) There will be a sixth Rounin, Mythos, played by Rayver Cruz, who turns out to be the brother of Creon and their mother is Ina Raymundo. Rayver is paired with Shaina Magdayao as Selene.
   
“Rounin” is an ambitious project that took one and a half years to make.         “This is the first time ABS is tying up with other companies, Reality Pictures of Erik Matti who directs the show, and Larger than Life which does the special effects,” says ABS exec Deo Endrinal. “We built a special set on the 44-hectare lot of a cement factory in Binangonan at ilang beses sinira ng bagyo ang  set namin so we were delayed. But when we saw the results on screen, it’s all worth our trouble and effort.”
 
“Rounin” starts airing on April 15 and will run for 16 weeks.

Lumeria is a bright sunny place where the five Rounins live, led by Cadmus, the master rounin played by Diether Ocampo. Vesta is an arid place where outcasts like the convicts and criminals of Lumeria are put in exile. Helion is a very dark place where the enemies of Lumeria live. With Helion hostile to human life, they attack Lumerians to steal their resources. "Rounin" starts airing on April 15 and will run for 16 weeks.
