Nikki GilNikki Gil also broke into showbiz via a hit TV commercial. In Nikki’s case, it was the Coke ad – which saw her singing the Coke jingle and giving away a bottle of the soda to people she passes by – that proved to be her passport to the entertainment industry. After guest starring in several shows on Channel 7, Nikki signed up with Channel 2. She explains that the offer by the Kapamilya network focused on music, which is something that she really wants to focus on. Soon, she became a VJ for ABS-CBN’s music channel, MYX, alongside Luis Manzano, Geoff Eigenmann, Iya Villania and Heart Evangelista. She also became a regular co-host on the musical-variety show ASAP. Nikki, who honed her musical talent as a choir member of the Alabang New Life Christian Center (where Gary Valenciano and his family also attend) and at the recording studio of her uncle, has a self-titled album to her credit. Among the tracks in her first CD are her versions of Sakayan ng Jeep and If I Keep My Heart Out of Sight, which were originally sung by Lani Misalucha and James Taylor, respectively. She has another hit in the Glowing Inside ad campaign of Vaseline shampoo, where she sings the jingle and appears in the music video. While steadily building a career in music, Nikki, 18, is pursuing a college degree at the Ateneo (from Management Economics, she has shifted to Literature). http://www.planetphilippines.com/default.html

EMI Releases Repackaged Nikki Gil Album With Graduation ThemeBy EMI PhilippinesMarch 24, 2006Print this Article E-mail this Article CommentsHere’s a delightful treat for graduating students. EMI Philippines has recently released the repackaged version of Nikki Gil’s self-titled debut album, featuring “Glowing Inside,” the heartwarming ballad from the latest Vaseline shampoo commercial starring the young singer and commercial model. “Glowing Inside” quickly gained popularity among graduating students who plan to use it as their official graduation song. Not skipping a beat, EMI Philippines included the minus one track and music video of “Glowing Inside” to make it easier for this year’s graduates to practice and perfect their own rendition of the song in time for graduation. The popularity of “Glowing Inside” is reminiscent of Nikki Gil’s Coke commercial that got everyone talking about “that pretty girl” and singing “Sana’y masabi ng awit kong ito, lahat ng ninanais nitong puso ko…” Now a familiar face on TV with regular shows on ABS-CBN, Studio 23, and MYX, Nikki is the perfect image and voice behind the new Vaseline shampoo commercial. With her outstanding scholastic record (she graduated valedictorian from her high school and continues to make it to the honor roll even now that she’s mixing show business and academics), keen sense of responsibility, and numerous achievements, she is a glowing image of what a student should be. Aside from Nikki’s beautiful and soothing voice, the success of campaigns she involves herself with can be attributed to her wholesome, clean, and cause-oriented image—exactly what companies want to identify with their products/services. With the young woman that Nikki is inside and out, she is the role model that the Filipino youth needs—one who lets the essence of her soul shine through with a fun and positive message. “Nikki Gil,” the repackaged version, is now available in music stores. Featuring the hit single “Glowing Inside” composed by Louie Ocampo and written by Edith Gallardo, the album also includes the song’s music video and minus one track. http://www.titikpilipino.com/news/?aid=685

Bamboo’s second album LightPeaceLove released in June 2005 immediately attained gold status. The album includes “Hallelujah,” “Much Has Been Said,” and “Alpha Beta Omega,” Bamboo has certainly taken a huge step forward. From the band’s two albums of well-written songs that tackles honesty, introspection and positive resolution under their label home, EMI Music Southeast Asia considered the band to make the most ambitious and extra-ordinary projects EMI have likely to have this year 2006 and have decided to release a regional version. Progressive rock is making a comeback and giving pride to our country. Hale consists Champ Lui-Pio on vocals, Sheldon Gellada on bass, Rol Martinez on guitars and Omnie Sarroca on drums. Hale is also under EMI’s management ever since they signed in. The album attained its Gold status in July 2005. It reached Platinum in August 2005 and been awarded in the 2005 MTV Pilipinas as the Best New Artist. And before the year ended, Hale self-titled debut album reached double platinum status. “Broken Sonnet,” the song that brought Hale into the limelight and served as the carrier single of EMI’s collection of original Pinoy rock, Full Volume. “The Day You Said Goodnight” brought Hale to no. 1 on the radio. Composed of Mitch Singson on drums, Jal Taguibao on bass, and Ebe Dancel on vocals, Sugarfree is a three-piece band with a trademark song “Hari ng Sablay” from their sophomore album Dramachine. It has been more than a year since “Sa Wakas” was released. Dramachine was released in July 2004. Sugarfree, is now one of EMI’s. Sugarfree’s Dramachine attained gold status in September 2005. Cebu-based Urbandub unleashed their mantra under a major label and an album entitled Embrace out in November. The album’s first single is “Alert The Armory.” “Alert The Armory,” with its pulsating guitar riffs and tireless drumbeats, is a hit-worthy track that will attract the ears of rock fans. Its extra-ordinary and clever music video is already playing on music channels. Urbandub signed with EMI on March 2005. Touted as the “Heroes of Indie Bands,” they have rode their popularity across the country without a music label. Urbandub is the first indie band to be released nationwide on with EMI’s help. The band is composed of Gabby Alipe on guitar and vocals, John Dinopol on guitars, Lalay Lim on bass and Jan Mendoza drums. Nikki Gil, the girl-next-door we’ve seen in a cola commercial has a 12-track album. “Sakayan ng Jeep,” her first single, is a Lani Misalucha original from the 90s and written by Bodgie Dasig. Second single is Nikki’s remake of James Taylor’s 70s hit “If I Keep My Heart Out of Sight.” April is seen on GMA as cohost of SOP. And now that she has signed with her first album under EMI Philippines, her first single and bouncy-opener “Stay Real,” is now playing on the radio. “Stay Real,” possesses a powerful roll-with-it groove. April proves that she is born for her craft. She started her singing career in the United States and even had numerous opportunities to have worked with the pioneers of hip-hop R&B such as 98 Degrees, Pink, Mya, Ashanti, Brian McKnight, JaRule, Snoop Dogg, and many more. http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=g...02_april06_2006

Nikki Gil admits breakup with Gabriel Valenciano By JOJO PANALIGAN
After weeks of silence amid growing rumors, singer Nikki Gil finally admits to Manila Bulletin in an exclusive interview that her romantic relationship with Gabriel Valenciano is no more. "We tried to work it out but I guess we were just too young. Still, I am not bitter nor do I have no regrets since our relationship that lasted almost a year was good until it lasted. I’m the type of person kasi who’d rather say ‘I’m glad I did’ versus ‘I wish I had,’" Nikki says. Evasive in answering questions about details leading to their breakup, Nikki hopes that people won’t take it against her if she chooses to be private about it. "It’s actually disadvantageous to me to not talk about it since between us, Gabriel is more outspoken about our relationship. But as they say, less talk, less mistake. I just hope people won’t think that I did not do my part to keep the relationship afloat as much as people would expect him to. I know, we seemed to have been the ‘ideal’ couple but some things are just out of anyone’s control. It wasn’t an easy decision to make but it was arrived at mutually," says she. When asked how she’s been feeling or doing lately without Gabriel, Nikki says that she is "picking up the pieces and moving on by busying myself with work. I can’t stay on the ground forever. I have cried my last cry and it’s now time to allow God to heal me. I’ve been praying like I never prayed before and I always tell Him, ‘Lord, help me gain wisdom from this experience. Help Gabriel gain wisdom from this, too. Help me stay grounded and to walk down the path that you want me to take.’" Nikki admits, though, that the first few days following their split-up were difficult for her. "I kept asking God, ‘Why me, Lord, when I took care of my heart and followed everything in the ‘I Kissed Dating Goodbye’ book? But then, us teenagers are drama queens and I believe God will reveal His reason in good time. As they say, what the devil does for evil, God can turn into good," says Nikki. Does she and Gab still talk? "We do but not very often. When we bump into each other, we’re civil and say ‘hi.’ I know we both need this time of solace to get over it. Good thing is, we started out as friends and that’s something no one can ever take away. We may not be the best of friends now, but we certainly are not enemies," says Nikki. Gabriel’s family, too, remains friends with Nikki who only has good words for his parents, Gary and Angeli. "It’s kind of awkward, to be honest, because we’ve grown to love each other’s family. Still, Gary, whom I see more often than Gabriel now because of ‘ASAP,’ is very diplomatic about it. I know that he and Angeli also wanted my relationship with their son to work out but then…" Helping Nikki a lot on her road to recovery are select friends and family members particularly her mom. Nikki says that she appreciates her mom always lending a shoulder to cry on yet not offering unsolicited advice even when she sees her already hurting. "That way I fight and win my own battles. My mom has always been there from the day Gabriel courted me until we parted ways. All those times, she never asked me about anything unless I open up which I always do, anyway, because we have become very close since I entered showbiz. Although my mom has been very supportive of my career from helping me with my wardrobe for shows to choosing worthwhile projects, she respects the private person that I am especially when it comes to that department," Nikki says. There are a lot of lessons that spring from this experience as far as Nikki is concerned. One is to never overlook differences in lifestyles and outlook. "Gabs is the extrovert while I am the introvert. We are as opposite as opposites can be. We have very different lifestyles although, to his credit, I know that he has changed a lot since we started our relationship in that he doesn’t party as much, etc. I also know that effort just shouldn’t come from one person. Love is a two-way street of give and take," she says. And the ultimate lesson? "To not cry over spilt milk. Our break-up wasn’t such a lose-lose situation. Gabriel was not a mistake. It just wasn’t the right time," she ends. Nikki Gil is currently promoting her new single, "Glowing Inside," from her repackaged debut album under EMI Music Philippines with support from Penshoppe, Vaseline and Manila Bulletin. She will be releasing the follow-up single, "Forever Is Not As Long As It Used To Be," within the next few weeks. Nikki will also be seen dabbling into acting in the upcoming ABS-CBN fantaserye, "Rounin," alongside Diether Ocampo, Luis Manzano, Angelika Panganiban and Jhong Hilario. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2006042662355.html
