Aguilera’s front act

Star in a Million 2006 Grand Winner Kris Lawrence will be the opening act for Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics Live in Manila concert tonight at the Fort Bonifacio Global City Open Field.

“I felt very excited when they first told me about the stint,” Lawrence says.

“It’s a great honor to have been chosen to open for her. Not everyone gets that chance. I’m a very big fan. I saw her concert at the Universal Ampitheater back in 2002 when I was still living in L.A.”

His favorite Aguilera tracks include “I Turn To You,” and “Genie In A Bottle.”

“I loved the ‘Genie’ video especially since she looked so sexy in it,” Kris confesses.

Given the chance, Kris would love to sing “I Turn To You,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” or “Reflection.”

“Initially, there was that possibility of doing a duet, but it didn’t push through,” he says. “I’d love to do ‘Reflection’ because it reminds me of my sister, who’s still playing Kim in Miss Saigon in Australia now.”

Fil-Am singers Kris Lawrence and Jay-R are showcasing their talents in a special show at the Teatrino in Greenhills tonight. The two will be performing with Karylle in a show titled "Souls in Love."

"Kris and I have always preferred R&B that's why in our show, we will have loads of easy listening tunes and wonderful duets with Karylle, " volunteers Jay-R.

Kris adds, " the challenege here is how to use music to tell a love story. And we are referring to a very extensive catalog of R&B and soul hits made popular in the 60s and 70s that still have strong recall to this day."

Kris Lawrence

Nag-walkout si Kris Lawrence sa usa ka benefit show tungod kay wala makauyon sa komedya sa host nga si Giselle Sanchez. "The event organizer gave me the name of Kris Lawrence without giving me the name of his band. Dapat banda muna niya then si Kris. Ang nangyari, when I called him, wala yung banda niya, so he couldn't perform. He was holding the mic and I asked him, ‘Do you want me to help you?' He said, ‘Yes, please. I stood up and told him, ‘Maybe, you can let them know who you are.' Parang nainis siya. Sabi na lang niya, ‘You know what, I'll just play the keyboards.' Tapos pinaalis niya si Carding Cruz Jr., [a music icon in the 1960s]. Nagpapatawa ako, sabi ko, ‘Naku, Kris, alam mo ba kung sino yung pinaalis mo? Si Carding Cruz Jr. ‘yan! Kasi parang na-offend si Carding. Saka mga kamag-anak niya yung nandito, baka batuhin ka ng kamatis. Parang joke lang, kaya lang, napikon ‘ata siya. Nung tutugtog na siya, nag-walk out...umalis. Sabi ko sa audience, "Nag-walk out po si Kris Lawrence dahil hindi ko po siya kilala. Nagalit siya," litaniyang pasabot ni Giselle. Matud niya hangtud sa pagkahuman sa show wala na siya tagda ni Krisbisan pag nag-peace sign na siya niini.
