Ang balita na buntis ang girlfriend na si Katrina Ojeda ang latest news tungkol kay Martin Nievera. Ibinalita kahapon ni Ricky Lo sa kolum nito sa Philippine Star na "on the way" si Katrina sa magiging ikatlong anak ni Martin.

Walang ibinigay na detalye si Ricky sa balita na hindi pa alam ng mga anak ni Martin kay Pops Fernandez na magkakaroon sila ng bagong kapatid.

Malalaki na ang mga anak nina Pops at Martin. Malamang, tanggap na nila ang sitwasyon ng kanilang mga magulang.

Kabilang si Martin sa mga performer sa successful benefit concert sa LA para sa mga biktima ng mudslide sa Leyte. Ito ang bahagi ng report ng US correspondent na si Oliver Carnay:

Ang ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. at GC4, sa pakikipagtulungan ng The Filipino Channel (TFC) at People of the Philippines (POP) Production Company, ay nagtulung-tulong para isakatuparan ang I SHALL RETURN, ang benefit concert para makatulong at makalikom ng pondo para sa rehabilitasyon ng mga nasalanta ng mudslide sa St. Bernard, Leyte, sa Pilipinas. Ginanap ang fund-raising concert nitong nakaraang Sabado, Abril 15, 2006, sa Glendale Civic Auditorium sa Glendale, California.

Ang trahedyang nangyari sa Barangay Guinsaugon, Leyte sa Pilipinas ay hindi malimutan ng mga Fil-Ams na malayo man sa pinanggalingang bayan ay apektado pa rin sa mga malulungkot na nangyayari sa Pilipinas. Kasama sa mga Fil-Ams na ito ang ilan sa mga entertainers na based na sa Los Angeles, na nagbigay ng kanilang mga oras at talento para mabuo ang layunin ng I SHALL RETURN.

Ang kapatid ni Lea Salonga na si Gerard Salonga ang nag-ayos ng musical arrangements ng OPM songs na kinanta ng mga performer.

Nanguna sa mga naghandog ng kani-kanilang mga talento sa pagkanta, pagpapatawa at hosting sina Martin Nievera at ang Fil-Aussi na si Mig Ayesa.

Naghandog ng mga makabagbag-damdaming kanta sina Dessa, Stephanie Reese, Charmaine Clamor, Becca Godinez, Jennifer Paz, Antoinette Taus, Yoly Tolentino, at ang grupong Introvoyz (sa pangunguna ni Paco Arespacochaga).

Nagpatawa rin ang mga komedyanteng sina Bernardo Bernardo at Joseph Gelito. Naroon rin ang aktor na si Dante Basco (na nakatakdang magpunta ng Maynila para mag-promote ng kanyang pelikulang Take The Lead, kung saan kasama nito si Antonio Banderas) na tumulong sa paghu-host kasama ng mga mainstream local talents na sina Janelle So, Giselle Toengi, Giovanni Ortega, at Denise Dador (KABC 7 news).

Naka-attach sa report ni Oliver ang mga litrato ng mga Pilipino na naging bahagi ng benefit show na dinaluhan ng magkapatid na Tom at Antoinette Taus. Binatang-binata na ang dating child actor na naging bida noon sa mga pelikula ng Star Cinema.

Kumpirmado nga mabdos ang uyab ni Martin Nievera nga si Katrina Ojeda apan wala pa hinoon matino kon pila na ka buwan ang iyang tiyan.

Ang nasiguro sa mga himantayon mao nga hayan mamahimong maayo nga inahan si Katrina ngadto sa iyang anak, sanglit mahiligon man ang naulahi og mga bata, gani pre-school teacher man siya.

Wala usay nakitang dautan kon momabdos si Katrina gumikan kay hagbay ra nga na-annul ang kasal ni Martin ug Pops Fernandez.

Martin not ready to talk about Katrina’s pregnancy


Now that the news of Katrina Ojeda’s pregnancy has been made, Martin Nievera, the father of Katrina’s baby, still opts to keep to himself.


We sent him a text message last Thursday asking him if there will be a wedding soon and he replied, "I’m kinda hurt that I was preempted with my news, but what else is new? I wanted to do it or say it my way sana. But since that didn’t happen, now many have gotten hurt inevitably. I’m not angry. Just a little hurt, that’s all. Give me a little time and I will find a way to tell all. For now, I would like to remain silent."

Martin told us he was on a plane going to Sweden for a concert. He didn’t confirm when he’ll be back here in Manila but he told us his kids Robin and Ram have welcomed the good news. "They are happy and excited for me," he said.

Looks like Martin has finally made that decision to move on ahead with his relationship with Katrina, something that has been put on hold like forever. Pops Fernandez, his ex-wife, has obviously moved on much earlier than him since their separation. Her latest "romance" comes in the person of actor Jomari Yllana. Martin has told us that Pops has been encouraging him to move on with his life. And so, this must be it for Martin.

To us hopeless romantics who have been praying for a reconciliation between Martin and Pops at the end of it all, the future looks dimmer as it is.

Anyway, congratulations should be in order for Martin and Katrina for their first-born.

Fresh from Las Vegas, Martin Nievera will have a presscon this noon not to confirm his impending fatherhood but for his concert called The Greatest Hits slated May 27 (a Saturday), 8:30 p.m. at the Premiere Theater (SM Mall of Asia).

It’s Martin’s first time to face the press after Funfare’s "scoop" report several issues ago that his girlfriend, Katrina Ojeda, is pregnant, an event that, according to Funfare sources, makes not only Martin and Katrina but also those close to them very happy. As I was saying, there’s nothing wrong with Martin resuming (after a reported brief separation) his romance with Katrina because he’s legally free, and eligible once again, after his marriage to Pops Fernandez was annulled a few years ago. Like Martin, Katrina has a home in Las Vegas. People who know Katrina well describe her as "fond of children" and "very intelligent." She’s a teacher and, as far as I know, she teaches pre-school kids. Katrina must be excited about the prospect of having a child of her own. Martin has two grown-up sons (Ram and Robin) with ex-wife Pops who is now rumored to be going steady with Jomari Yllana, the third younger man romantically linked to her (after Piolo Pascual and Brad Turvey).

I’m sure at the presscon, they will be asking Martin such personal questions as, 1) Are he and Katrina planning to get married?, 2) Do they want a girl or a boy?, and 3) Where will Katrina give birth, in Las Vegas or in good old Manila?

Knowing Martin to be outspoken. I’m sure he will not try to hide anything from the press.

Okay then, Martin. No "alibis" nor ifs and buts, huh?

After raising money for a little girl afflicted with a rare disease, Martin’s doing a concert next for the benefit of St. Mary Goretti parish. One of the best moments ever shared with my Mother was during one of my darkest days. I will never forget it. I was just released from an almost perfect marriage and had no one to run to, nowhere to go. Even my family at the time was not on my side. And one night, as I tried to beg my way back into my home, I was rejected one last time, with no chance for parole. I found myself at the foot of my Mom’s stairs in her humble townhouse, face down on the floor crying my eyes out. My Mom said nothing and gently rested her face on my forehead and held me the way she did when I would wake up from a bad dream as a child. She cried with me, not for me. She caressed me, not spanked me. She understood my pain without judgment. What was supposed to be one of the worst days of my life turned out to be one of the best days of my life with my Mom. Ayaw magkomento ni Pops Fernandez hinggil sa pagbubuntis ng long-time girlfriend ng kanyang ex-husband na si Martin Nievera na si Katrina Ojeda. Kung may dapat man daw magsalita tungkol sa pagbubuntis ni Katrina ay walang iba kundi si Martin at hindi siya.

Pitong taon na nga namang hiwalay sila ni Martin at matagal nang annulled ang kanilang kasal at may kani-kanya na silang buhay ngayon. Although magkaibigan pa rin sila ni Martin dahil sa kanilang mga anak na sina Robin at Ram, wala na raw silang pakialamanan pagdating sa kanilang personal na buhay. At kung anuman ang nangyayari sa kanila ay ipinaaalam nila sa kanilang mga anak.

Magkasama sina Pops at Martin sa Europe for a series of shows nang lumabas ang balita tungkol sa pagbubuntis ni Katrina Ojeda. Knowing Martin, hindi ito maglilihim kay Pops at maging sa kanilang mga anak.

In fairness naman daw kay Martin, never itong nagpabaya sa kanyang obligasyon bilang ama sa kanilang dalawang anak.

Ngayong masaya na si Martin sa piling ni Katrina, deserve din naman siguro ni Pops na maging masaya. Sa ngayon, nagi-enjoy siya sa company ni Jomari Yllana.

‘The ceiling’s too low’

IT wasn’t lost on this audience member, but Martin Nievera still had to point it out: The ceiling of Premiere Theater in SM Mall of Asia was too low.

“The lights should be 10 feet higher. If I get burned on one side of my face, you know why,” he said half-seriously, pointing to the blinding orbs, which, indeed, made the audience wince intermittently.

The chatty singer, known in local show biz as “The Mouth,” was in the middle of a concert dubbed “The Greatest Hits,” which launched said theater last weekend.

It has been customary for the mall chain to invite Nievera to inaugurate its concert venues, according to the performer.

Maan Lopez, Marketing manager of SM Cinemas, confirmed this. “Martin was the first to perform in our concert venues in SM North Edsa, Megamall and Southmall,” she said.

(At Megamall last year, the singer complained about the stage, saying “This space is too small ... I can hardly move.”)

He’s such a regular, Nievera jested on Saturday night, that SM might as well stand for “Show ni Martin.”

Lopez clarified, however, that the 1,108-seater Premiere Theater is not the official concert venue of MoA, located on Bay Boulevard, in the reclamation area in Pasay City. “Concerts will [henceforth] be held in Centerstage, which seats 982 people,” she said. “It’s still undergoing construction. Target opening is in July.”

Premiere Theater, she explained, is for advanced screenings and “big premieres” of local productions.

SM held Nievera’s show at Premiere because he’ll be abroad when Centerstage formally opens in July. “But since he starred in MoA’s first show, it’s as if he inaugurated Centerstage,” said Lopez.

Centerstage will have a higher ceiling, Lopez assured. “It’s a full-fledged theater, with a built-in stage, two dressing rooms with separate toilets, flylines (black curtains), trusses and crossover lines (for the installation of lights). It will also feature a workshop area for rehearsals.”

For Nievera’s concert, the director/sound technician’s booth was set up in the middle of the passageway between the orchestra and balcony seats.

“A director/sound technician’s booth is part of the plan [for Centerstage],” said Ric Camaligan, first vice president of SM Leisure Inc., which operates SM Cinemas.

He said Centerstage will be equipped for live shows, concerts and bodabil productions, which SM is planning with the Film Academy of the Philippines.

SM currently owns 172 cinemas, out of the total 550 first-run theaters in the country.

Martin Nievera heads Silver guest list

The song “Be My Lady” will always be special for two people: Martin Nievera and Vehnee Saturno.

The song, which was Vehnee’s entry to the Professional Division of the Sixth Metropop Song Festival, actually didn’t win any prize for him. He had another song, “Ako’y Ako,” interpreted by Lerma de la Cruz that won second prize that night. “Be My Lady,” which was interpreted by Pedrito Montayre, finished dead last out of seven entries and would have gone unnoticed until Chito Ilagan heard it and picked it up for Martin Nievera, then starting his own career.

To say that the song—which was inspired by a dream Vehnee had about a girl who wasn’t being treated right by her boyfriend—was a big hit would be an understatement. “That made me,” acknowledges Vehnee, who recently marked his 25th year as a professional songwriter.

On May 26, Nievera will sing “Be My Lady” once more as he leads a star-studded lineup of guests for Silver: The Songs of Vehnee Saturno. The concert, which is for the benefit of the church renovation and rebuilding project of the Sta. Maria Goretti Parish, the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila, is not a tribute to Vehnee, but to his songs, which have helped establish the careers of countless singers.

Some of them—like Rachelle Ann Go, Mark Bautista, JayR, Jaya, Louie Heredia, Randy Santiago and the husband-and-wife team of Jessa Zaragoza and Dingdong Avanzado—will also be in the concert. Juris Fernandez and Chin Alcantara of MYMP, Kyla and the vocal group The CompanY will be there as well. Although none of them have recorded a Vehnee Saturno song, Vehnee is a great admirer of their talents.

As is only fitting, Martin’s performance of “Be My Lady” will be the opening number of the show.

Even Vehnee is looking forward to Martin joining the show, since the song means so much to them both. It will also give Martin’s fans a chance to see him again after he has spent so much time abroad, particularly in Las Vegas, where he is trying to build a solo career.

Martin Nievera leads tribute to Saturno


THE song “Be My Lady” is of special importance to the concert king Martin Nievera and the respected composer Vehnee Saturno.

Saturno entered the song in a major music festival but it didn’t win any prizes. Interpreted by Pedrito Montayre, “Be My Lady” finished last out of seven entries and would have gone unnoticed until Chito Ilagan, a talent agent and producer, picked it up for the then-budding singer Martin Nievera. The rest was history.

“It made my career,” said Saturno, who recently marked his 25th year as a professional songwriter.

Tonight, Nievera will once more touch the hearts of audiences as he sings “Be My Lady” for the opening number of “Silver: The Songs of Vehnee Saturno” at the Big Dome.

The concert, which is for the rebuilding project of the Saint Maria Goretti Parish at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila, pays tribute to Saturno’s masterpieces that helped establish the careers of countless singers.

Some of them are Rachelle Ann Go, Mark Bautista, Jay-R, Jaya, Louie Heredia, Randy Santiago and the husband-and-wife team of Jessa Zaragoza and Dingdong Avanzado, will also perform in the concert.

Joining them are Juris Fernandez and Chin Alcantara of MYMP, Kyla and the vocal group The CompanY.

Although none of them have recorded a Vehnee Saturno song, the composer is a great admirer of their talents. MYMP will perform a Sarah Geronimo medley and an Ariel Rivera medley among others, while Kyla will d­o a medley of Ella Mae Saison’s songs with R&B artist Jay-R. The CompanY, meanwhile, will perform “Chuva­chuchu,” the pop-novelty hit by Vehnee that was first recorded by Jolina Magdangal, as well as some inspirational songs that Satur­no wrote.

Bahay ni Martin, ibinibenta ng P30M

HINDI sinasadya ng isang kaibigan na matisod ang balitang ibinibenta ang bahay ni Martin Nievera sa Ayala Alabang for a little over P30 million.

Nagkataon lang na ang contractor ng kaibigan niyang nagpapatayo ng bahay ay the same contractor na gumawa ng modernong bahay ng concert king.

Ipinakita raw sa kanila ang naturang property, na nasa bandang loob ng posh subdivision, kung saan nakatirik din ang dating lovenest ni Martin at ex-wife Pops Fernandez.

May apat daw na kuwarto ang nasabing bahay sa second floor, pero napaka-masculine ng disenyo, dominant colors ang black and white, kaya’t ’di nagka-interes ang babaeng kaibigan ng friend namin.

Anyway, sa tantiya niya’y 800 square meters ang lawak ng loteng kinatatayuan ng bahay ni Martin, na halos katabi raw ng mabahong creek.

Sa bandang likod nito’y may isa pang guest house na, ayon sa contractor, ay itinayo para sa ina ng singer na si Conchita.

Ayon sa bali-balita, ibinibenta ang nasabing bahay dahil sa Las Vegas na balak manirahan ni Martin kasama ang nagdadalantaong girlfriend na si Katrina Ojeda.
