Body Talk with Zsa Zsa PadillaFUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo
The Philippine Star 05/05/2006
Anytime now, the larger-than-life billboards showing Zsa Zsa Padilla "Hip & Sexy at 42" as endorser/image-model of The Belo Medical Group will occupy the spots (one along EDSA) where billboards of another Belo endorser/image-model, Ara Mina, used to be. Like that of Ara, the Zsa Zsa billboard is another feast for the eye (an energizer for traffic-weary commuters and motorists).
"No," said Zsa Zsa in this body talk, "I’m not shy about my age. Yes, I’m turning 42 on May 28 and I’m proud of it. I don’t look 42, do I?"
At 42, Zsa Zsa has survived a broken marriage (to dentist Modesto Tatlonghari, father of her 24-year-old actress/singer-daughter Karylle), the downs in her career, a surgery on her back (scoliosis) and her beloved Dolphy’s quadruple bypass, a personal crisis two years ago that took quite toll on her health and threats from showbiz upstarts.
So what "surprise" gift does Zsa Zsa expect on her birthday?
Maybe a wedding "proposal" from Dolphy (Zsa Zsa’s marriage to Tatlonghari was annulled more than three years ago)?
"That will come in due time," she smiled, refusing to name an exact date.
"Baka maudlot na naman," she added.
Or, perhaps, a Best Actress grand slam in this awards season for her head-turning performance in Regal Films’
Ako Legal Wife (which has already won for her a Best Actress trophy at last December’s Metro Filmfest)?
"I’m keeping my fingers crossed," said Zsa Zsa who is poised for another attention-getting performance in the new ABS-CBN soap
Bituing Walang Ningning as the mother of Sarah Geronimo. In the movie that inspired the
teleserye, Sarah’s character was played by Sharon Cuneta.
As a Belo endorser/image-model, Zsa Zsa underwent a Mesotherapy treatment to eliminate stubborn fat, Flaxel treatment and Thermage.
"The result," said Dr. Vicki Belo (who was with Zsa Zsa during this body talk), "is magical." (Check out the billboards and see for yourselves.)
What kind of diet do you follow?"High protein. All the carbs that I eat are complex carbs. And mostly vegetables. My favorite is broccoli."
Are you still fond of corned beef? "Not anymore. Now, I can’t eat anything cured with
salitre. Nagka-allergy
ako, eh." How do you burn calories? "I work out once or twice a week."
Being scoliotic, you don’t do rigorous workouts, do you? "I have to be careful. That’s why I have a trainer."
What about sports? "I swim. I also do kayaking."
What kind of food do you avoid? "I’d love to eat chocolates but fortunately, I’m allergic to chocolates. And to chicken, too."
Favorite food? "When I’m really, really hungry and I’m lucky enough – steak! I had one the other night, just a small piece. I brought home one piece for Dolphy because he wasn’t feeling well. Also, I should avoid rice but I can’t help taking it.
Matakaw ako sa kanin, eh." How much liquid do you take every day? "A lot! When I’m working out, I drink several glasses of water. I seldom take soda. I’m also careful about my sodium intake."
Are you taking any medication for your scoliosis? "No, I’m not. But I’m taking one for my cholesterol – Lipitor. Genetically, my good cholesterol level is lower than my bad cholesterol."
What about vitamins and minerals? "Not much vitamins. What I’m taking is CoQ 10 (100 mg.), an anti-oxidant I buy from GNC. It makes you younger
daw. Since I started taking it in December last year, I never had cough or colds. I also take alpha lipoic acid, which lowers
daw your blood sugar."
How much sleep do you get per night? "Six to eight hours. I’ve never been a big sleeper. If I sleep in the afternoon, I don’t sleep soundly at night."
What about Dolphy? "Oh, he’s a light sleeper. But he can really sleep,
huh! He likes to watch TV."
Doesn’t it bother you? "It does, so when he sleeps I turn it off and turns it on as soon as he wakes up."
What’s the last thing that you (and Dolphy) do before sleeping?"We pray. And then I put cream on my face."
First thing that you do when you wake up? "Check the clock."
[b]What’s your favorite sleep wear?
"Pajamas without underwear."
And Dolphy’s?
"Boxer shorts, also without underwear, and a white T-shirt na butas-butas."
What if you want some, you know, private moments?
"I would know. He’s a little antsy, di mapakali. Pakala-kalabit ‘yan. Then I would tease him, ‘May gusto ka, ano?’ Do we schedule ‘it?’ Not really. It just happens."
Who snores, he or you?
"I do. It’s weird because I wake up everytime I snore. We both have asthma. Sometimes, I would hear a whizzing sound. I would look at him and it’s not him, it’s me!"
How do you cope with stress?
"I work out. I hit the treadmill when I’m stressed out. Before, I let it out on my PlayStation."
What’s your favorite hideaway, favorite city?
"Las Vegas, where my parents and siblings are. My dad, Carlos Padilla Jr., is 72 but he’s fit and healthy because he exercises regularly."
How’s your love life?
"Okay naman!"
And your ###### life?
"All right. Okay na okay."
Dolphy said that you are his Viagra?
"Joke lang ‘yon! He doesn’t need one."
Do you ever fight?
"I refrain from arguing with him. At his age, it doesn’t seem okay for me to be fighting with him."
What makes you angry?
"When I’m into my ‘mom role.’ There was an instance when I was in Hong Kong with my daughters. From the airport, our four pieces of luggage fitted into the trunk of the Benz that fetched us. But during our departure, di na nagkasya. I was tense. Pinagmumura ko talaga sila, using all the Chinese words I knew."
How often do you see your doctor.
"Very often. You know why, I’m praning about my health. I’m a hypochondriac. Konting aches and pains, doctor kaagad! If you check my phonebook, most of the names are those of doctors."
How often do you go to Dr. Vicki’s clinic?
"Ay, often! When I have time, two to three times a week."
What treatment are you undergoing?
"Thermage for the body. It’s a new treatment."
Is every part of your body original?
"Well, I won’t deny that a little part of it is not."
What part of your body is your favorite?
"Before, my waistline. Now? I don’t know."
What part of your body do you think is Dolphy’s favorite?
"My rib cage, which is unusual, ‘no? It’s also my children’s favorite. They love to touch my rib cage."
What part of a man’s body do you notice first?
"The shoulders."
What part of your body do you think needs some improvement?
"Ask Vicki Belo." (Said Vicki, "That’s what we’re working on right now. I won’t tell you just yet which parts, but the results will be amazing.")
And how often do you see your dentist?
"Not often. The last time I did was last week."
Are you vain like most beautiful women?
"I guess I am – I should be – because I’m an artist."
How long does it take you to fix yourself?
"Fast! If I have to go out of the house, I shampoo my hair, brush it, dress up and leave. I go to Dr. Vicki’s clinic without makeup. I don’t stay in the shower for a long time or linger in the bathtub." ("It’s bad," said Dr. Vicki, "especially if you soak yourself up in warm water.")
Do you and Dolphy have "His" and "Hers" in your bathroom – you know, kanya-kanya?
"No. But I have a boudoir. Ninety-percent of the toiletries are mine, only 10 percent his. I am more organized than he is. I used to be super-organized, my room was no neat. But since I started living with him, I have my own little corner of kalat. And he has his own. Dolphy is a dapper dresser; he’s so put-together."
Name three men you think have nice bodies.
"Brad Pitt. David Beckham. Ryan Reynolds."
And three women...
"Jennifer Gardner. Jessica Alba. Lena Olin."
Using only body language, how would you make a guy know that you admire him?
"I don’t look at other guys; I look only at Dolphy." (Then she laughed.)
