Zsa Zsa Padilla nagpaopera sa America without Dolphy

Basta, darating din tayo diyan, I’ll let you know," sagot sa amin ni Zsazsa.

    * * *

At boto sa kanya ang daddy ko when he visited him (daddy) in the States.

"Ang dad ko, first time na magsalitang "Gusto ko siya kaya natuwa ako for my daughter."’

Dagdag pa na tila si Karylle raw ang madly in love kay Dingdong dahil kitang-kita na siya ang naghahabol sa binata.

"I don’ think Karylle is that desperate, she’s beautiful, intelligent, kaya I don’t think kailangan niyang maghabol," pagtatanggol ni Zsazsa sa panganay niya.

"I don’t think tumulad or gumaya, everybody naman nagiging bulag kapag umibig, di ba? Never question or judge a person na bulag who is madly in love, nobody can tell that the person you love is not the right one for you. Nobody knows, ako ba, bulag din ako noon kay Dolphy, pero look at us now, kami pa rin, hindi pa nga lang kami nagpapakasal for some reasons. I believe, Dingdong loves Karylle," magandang paliwanag ni Zsazsa.

    Re: Zsa Zsa Padilla (OT)

ZsaZsa Padilla wants closure from ex!

    By WALDEN SADIRI

Marriage is a subject Zsa Zsa Padilla and Dolphy seldom discuss these days. She’s open to it but she’s aware that it will still take some time before she can finally say "Ako Legal Wife," also the title of her film under Regal Films opening on Dec. 25 as "Mano Po 4: Ako Legal Wife."

She also needs a lot of things done to make a wedding a possibility for her and Dolphy. And No. 1 in her list is to close the book on her ex-hubby!

"I just want a closure between my ex and me," emphasized the actress. "I just want to sit down with him and talk… about things but we never seem to have the right time to do it. And maybe I can say someday my ex is my friend which has never been that way."

Aside from that, there are also some paperwork she has to deal with like her passport which still carries her married name Tatlonghari. There may be a lot of complications en route to a married life but for the country’s Divine Diva, what’s important is that her relationship with the Comedy King is still going strong!

"We did have our share of problems and we admitted that on television but that’s normal. But everything is smooth sailing now and it’s great," smiled Zsa Zsa.

She added that if ever she was never bothered by not being married to Dolphy, it was simply due to love. For her love is blind.

Other people may sometimes not understand people in love. She opined that love shouldn’t be questioned and those in-love be not judged. "But I’d like to think he still is bulag sa pag-ibig, lahat ng tao ganyan. We don’t know what the future has in store for you. Like Dolphy and I, our age difference is 36 years…I’ I’d like to think he’s still blindly in love with me…! I don’t think anyone has the right to question or judge any person who someone choose to love."

Zsa Zsa shared too that Dolphy’s comic antics have also rubbed in on her as a performer, as she experienced in her shows abroad. She noticed that injecting humor brings her show to another dimension.

"When I started trying to be funny, sabi ko kay Dolphy, iba pala yung joy na mararamdaman mo when you feel you made people happy and they laughed at your jokes when you’re trying to be funny on stage. And parang you become more endearing to them. I’’ve learned a lot from him through the years!"

Blindly in love too is the description of Zsa Zsa Padilla’Â’s character in "Mano Po 4: Ako Legal Wife." She plays Chona, who despite learning about her hubby’s extra-marital affairs, remains faithful and even becomes competitive to get her husband back. Unlike the other "Mano Po" movies, "Ako Legal Wife" is a comedy about a wife versus the two mistresses of her husband.

Another thing her character has to worry about is her son, the sole heir of their family fortune, who she feels is a homosexual!

A take-off from her famous line, "ako legal wife" from "Mano Po 2," this movie excites Zsa Zsa because it deals with the same problem of Chinese women having adulterous husbands but in a comic manner.

"It is so funny because she is the legal wife and yet she is very insecure. She is very rich and hindi siya nag-aayos. She is very traditional. She uses gawgaw, kalamansi and cucumber for her body. Hindi niya alam ang spa. And every time she has a confrontation she is afraid to be on her own. She needs her barkada because kailangan niya ang opinions ng friends niya because she can’t make decisions on her own. She is very insecure about her body that when she finds out a there’s even a No. 3, she had breasts implant the same size as the No. 3," laughed Zsa Zsa.

Jay Manalo plays her husband while Cherry Pie Picache plays the first mistress or the "lucky wife," and Rufa Mae Quinto is the "bombshell wife" or "latest wife."

According to the film’s director, Joel Lamangan, Zsa Zsa was a revelation in a comedy. He described her to have good timing in comedy.

"I always believed that dramatic actresses like Zsa Zsa can do good comedy. And they’ll see it here in ‘Ako Legal Wife,’" boasted Joel.

Zsa Zsa agreed with Joel when she said, "For this year’s film festival, we may be a medium-budgeted movie, but we are going to really try our best to entertain you and you will go out of the moviehouse feeling very happy and entertained. Magaan siya. … I dubbed five hours of the whole film and that’s already edited. And they have to trim that to one and a half hour. There are so much to choose from. Maganda ang pelikula, nakakatawa talaga!"

With regards to their director, she described him as a very efficient and fast worker.

"It is so fun working with Joel Lamangan. He starts very early in the day and finishes very early. Ang dami naming nagagawa in one day.

Zsa Zsa Padilla, as usual, will be busy with her shows like ASAP" every Sunday and various singing engagements. As to reports saying that Quality TV or QTV is working on a project for her and daughter Karylle, she said that she still has to consider some parameters before giving it her thumbs-up. Her primary consideration is "SAP" which has been with for a long time.

"That would be marvelous working with Karyle but as long as it won’t be in the same genre as ‘ASAP.’ It is a very small industry and I don’t want to close doors on anyone. I’ve worked with both stations and I loved everyone in both stations," she remarked.

"As long as hindi siya pareho ng ASAP, that would be fine, ‘coz I love to work with my daughter," sambit ng isa sa bida ng Ako, Legal Wife.

"ASAP naman is very kind to me, very supportive sila, kaya naman pag libre ako, sumisipot ako sa show, kaya ayokong tumanggap ng ibang shows na pareho ng concept ng ASAP," dagdag pa.

"Hindi ako na A to A, although there’s been a problem before between Joed and one of the staff of Sandra Chavez (may-ari ng Artist House), hindi ko kasi alam ‘yun, nagkataon na ako ‘yung may show sa Japan, pero hindi ako na-hold ng immigration.

"That was very long time ago pa when I was still with Artist House, hindi na ngayon. In fairness to Joed, wala naman kaming naging problema," kaswal niyang pahayag. — Reggee Bonoan

ZSA ZSA Padilla is 41 but she looks younger as she's so slim and fit. You wouldn't think she's having health problems that some gossip writers even hinted at as a terminal disease. "It's true I got sick but it's not life-threatening naman," she says. "My veins are so tiny, kaya namaga ang kidney ko and urether. But the doctors in Las Vegas have fixed it kasi okay na ngayon ang urine flow ko. I was not even confined but was just an out-patient. But prior to that, I had problems with bacteria in my tummy and I can't eat anything raw."

Is it true she's the cause of delay in finishing the Regal filmfest entry "Ako Legal Wife: Mano Po 4." "O, sige, aaminin ko na. Kasi lagi akong nasa abroad doing shows with Kuh Ledesma and Gary Valenciano. But honestly, I think they had problems scheduling all the stars kasi it's a very big cast, then na-dengue pa si Cherry Pie Picache, so, hindi lang naman siguro ako."

We read the reviews of her show with Kuh. They're generally positive, except for one Canadian writer who didn't like Kuh's being preachy during her spiels. "Well, that can't be helped kasi when you're an ardent Christian like Kuh, hindi mo mapigilan to share your faith. Parang it's her obligation to talk on how the Lord has helped her. Kaya nga binabalanse ko na lang, she comes on stage covered up to the neck, ako naman, naka-plunging neckline."

In "Ako Legal Wife," she plays Chona Chong, a Tsinay who has a handsome husband (Jay Manalo), three healthy kids, and a successful career, but remains very insecure as her husband has not just one but two mistresses (Cherry Pie and Rufa Mae Quinto.)

"Gan'on daw talaga in real life. Kung sino pang legal wife, siyang most insecure."

So, when will she be the legal wife of Dolphy? "In due time, it will happen. And if ever, I want it to be simple. Hindi na kailangang grandioso dahil it's not my first marriage naman."

It's her first time to be directed by Joel Lamangan. "He is fun to work with. I love his method of working early and finishing early, no puyatan. I also enjoyed working with Jay, Cherry Pie and Rufa Mae. Jay is just quiet on the set, but once he's on cam, ang galing. He knows what he's doing. Kasundo ko naman sina Pie and Rufa Mae kasi we're all Gemini. Rufa Mae and I were both born on May 28 and Pie, May 27."

Is it true her daughter Karylle is often having an LQ (lovers quarrel) with Dingdong Dantes? "Honestly, I don't know. I don't meddle with my daughter's love affair. Mukhang okay naman sila. I do watch them in 'Engkantadia' and I'm proud of Karylle as her acting has improved so much.

GAY SON – What if she finds out her son is gay?

The question is directed to Zsa Zsa Padilla, who said that she had no choice but to accept him for what he is. Love and understand him even more. "You can’t change him no matter how hard you try," Zsa Zsa said.

Which is what she did not do in "Ako Legal Wife: Mano Po 4," where she discovered that her son, played by John Prats, is gay. Instead of accepting him for what he is, Zsa Zsa looks for a girl to make a man out of John — in vain.

INSECURE – Zsa Zsa’s afraid that her husband, Jay Manalo, might disinherit John if he finds out his sexual preference. Making the legal wife (yes, Zsa Zsa’s No. 1) insecure is her husband’s other son (JC de Vera) by No. 2, Cherry Pie Picache, described as Jay’s lucky charm. He might just make JC his heir.

But making Zsa Zsa even more insecure is No. 3, the vo-luptuous Rufa Mae Quinto. She isn’t taking it sitting down, undergoing total makeover (read cosmetic surgery) to prove to her Tsinoy husband that she’s as sexy and desirable as her young mistress.

What if she finds out that her husband is head over heels in love with a younger, sexier woman?

"Ay, ang sakit, ‘pag sinabing mas bata, mas sariwa," Zsa Zsa laughed.

NO WAY – Let it be said that it won’t happen in real life. No way. At 41, Zsa Zsa remains desirable. Ask Dolphy, her partner for 20 years.

To date, Zsa Zsa and Dolphy hasn’t legalized their union even if they can do so as two years ago her marriage to Dr. Modesto Tat-longhari was annulled. Dolphy didn’t tie the knot with any of the women he’s loved in the past. But he and Zsa Zsa plan to get married.

Zsa Zsa has a daughter, Karylle, by Dr. M. With Dolphy she has two, Nicole and Zia.

Zsa Zsa was in "Mano Po," the Chinese wife of Boyet de Leon who uttered the famous line, "Ako legal wife."

CONFLICTING SCHEDULES – She said that the shooting took many months because of the cast’s conflicting schedules. She had many shows abroad. Rufa Mae is busy on TV. Cherry Pie was usually available, but then she got sick. The bagets in the cast were also occupied with television commitments, not to mention so many out-of-town appearances.

But somehow they managed to be together to the finish the movie, to the satisfaction of Regal producer Mother Lily Monte-verde, director Joel Lamangan, and scriptwriter Roy Iglesias.

Zsa Zsa has three best actress trophies for "Batang PX" (Star, Urian, Film Academy of the Philippines). She describes "Ako Legal Wife" a refreshing change from the dramatic roles she’s done. Here she’s a funny and desperate Tsinoy wife.

SHE’S GOT A SECRETHighspeed learned that a top singer is reportedly an unwed mother. She’s got a love child, 11 to 12 years old. The father is said to be her former manager.

    How reliable is the report?

Perhaps "The Buzz," "ETK," "Startalk," or "S-Files" could ask their investigative teams to verify the report. If true, it’ll be a major scoop.

    40 Carats
    CONVERSATIONS With Ricky Lo
    The Philippine Star 11/27/2005

Life does begin at 40 – and so does mid-life crisis.

And Zsa Zsa Padilla, who is actually 41 (last May 28), is no exception.

When you look at Zsa Zsa so beautiful, so much bigger than life, you conclude that her life is a rose garden, devoid of the trials and tribulations that ordinary mortals are heir to. Look again, look harder, and you’ll see that Zsa Zsa is no different from the angst-ridden matron next to you.

"I’m only human," Zsa Zsa mouths the hackneyed line.

Last year, her relationship with Dolphy was put to a test when rumors spread that they were separating – or, to be more accurate, that Zsa Zsa wanted out of the 20-plus-year union (Zsa Zsa’s marriage to dentist Modesto Tatlonghari lasted for only seven years). They have yet to get married, even now that they are legally free to do so, Zsa Zsa’s marriage to Tatlonghari having been annulled; Dolphy has never been married, despite his being a father to 17 – minus one because Freddie died last week – with six different women, none of whom, Zsa Zsa included, he married.

"I’m flesh and blood," Zsa Zsa added, "like the characters I play in the movies, women who also get hurt."

In her latest movie, Regal Films’ Ako Legal Wife (virtual Part 4 of the successful Mano Po series, this time a comedy directed by Joel Lamangan for next month’s Metro Manila Filmfest), Zsa Zsa plays the "legal wife" that she is not yet in real life.

The title was inspired by a dialogue she delivered in Mano Po 2 when Zsa Zsa confronted Lorna Tolentino (her real-life cousin) who played the mistress.

In Ako Legal Wife, Zsa Zsa plays Chona Chong, a Tsinoy woman who seems to have everything – except exclusive "ownership" of her husband (played by Jay Manalo).

Asked when she will say "Ako legal wife" off camera, Zsa Zsa smiled. "Only time can tell."

In the following Conversation, Zsa Zsa candidly talks about her private life like she has never done before.

How are you similar to either or both of the characters?

"In the movie, she is patient, matiisin, in the sense that she learns about her husband’s having another woman when she (the wife) is already pregnant. She tries to maintain her composure, but she feels competitive. She wants to give birth ahead of the mistress, determined to have a son. Di ba among the Chinese it’s important to have a son para may heir? I’m not similar to my character in the sense that I haven’t found myself in the same situation she’s in."

Besides patient/matiisin, what’s your character like?

"She’s also a martyr. In one confrontation scene during a movie premiere, the wife and the mistress slap each other in front of many people, only for them to realize when Jay walks in with Rufa Mae (Quinto) that the man between them has a third other woman. My character is a martyr which I think I’m not because there’s no reason for me to be one."

Have you ever been insecure in real life?

"I don’t let myself be. I try to be secure. I mean, I make sure that I have a job, I make sure that I respect myself, I make sure that I’m not dependent on my man. So I’m not insecure in that sense."

Aren’t you the "clinging vine" type?

"You mean dependent on my man? No, I’m not. Sometimes, it’s nice to be emotionally dependent so as to make your man feel that he is needed and wanted and loved."

You have this fixation for older men.

"My first husband is 18 years older than me and Dolphy, 36 years."

Does it have anything to do with a subconscious longing for a father figure?

"I think so, because when I was growing up my father (Carlos ‘Sonny’ Padilla Jr.) started going to the US. He was always not around. He wanted to be a referee and he got his break in 1975 when he was hired as referee in the Ali-Frazier Thrilla in Manila bout. When he decided to migrate to the US, he petitioned for all of us his six children. But instead of leaving, I eloped (with Tatlonghari). I was 16 then."

Haven’t you ever had a boyfriend as old as or older than you were?

"I was at the Roosevelt High School (in San Juan, Metro Manila) when I had my first boyfriend. No, he wasn’t my ex-husband. We were in a choir. It’s funny but the guy looked exactly like Rollie Quizon (one of Dolphy’s children). He had long hair. But when he cut his hair for the ROTC, nawalan ako ng gana. I realized that I was in love with his hair! And then I met my ex-husband..."

During these past several months, you and Dolphy have been rocked by unsavory rumors (breaking-up, etc.). Is everything okay now?

"Last year pa ‘yon! The rumor started spreading in May last year. It was a combination of many things. We have since ironed things out. We are over the worst, I think. Dolphy and I were telling ourselves, ‘What could be worse than what we went through during our early years together?’ If we survived those crises, yung mga sumunod pa ay mga minor na lang."

Were you ever on the brink of separating?

"No, never! Remember how some people made a joke about what I said that Dolphy and I were living in the same house, and sleeping in the same room and the same bed?"

You were losing weight at that time and people suspected that it was because of some domestic problems.

"I must admit that I was problematic at that time. You know when a woman turns 40...I just turned 40 at that time and I think I went through a mid-life crisis – you know, what else could I do in my career...what if my husband finds another woman? Insecurities like those. I think it happens to women reaching 40. No wonder they say that life begins at 40."

You’re so beautiful, you still have a flourishing career, you have put your private life in order...

"I work. You know, why should I look like a matrona when I can look beautiful? I must say that (Dr.) Vicki (Belo) was a big help; she did a lot in restoring my self-esteem."

How did Dolphy support you during that "critical" period in your life?

"He was a part of it. I always remind him that ‘yung buhay niya ay kakambal ng buhay ko. I go through whatever he goes through in his life – and vice-versa."

You’ve been through a lot. When Dolphy underwent a kidney surgery and later a heart bypass, you acted as his "nurse." And when you were operated on your scoliosis and, recently, when you had your kidney treated, he was there for you, also acting as your "nurse."

"There was a problem with my urether, that’s why I’ve been having UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) since I was a kid. My kidneys were inflammed. A decade ago, it was discovered that my fallopian tube was big. Like Dolphy, I also have asthma. Luckily, he doesn’t have scoliosis. Actually, I am very sickly."

Don’t you have any problem being stepmother to Dolphy’s 16 children? (Zsa Zsa and Dolphy have two of their own, Nicole and Zia.)

"None. Maybe because they don’t live with us. Anytime any of them needs me, I’m always there."

    No more problems with Dolphy?

"Wala na! Financially, he has his own and I have my own. That has always been our set-up as far as finances are concerned."

Is Karylle (her daughter by Tatlonghari) okay with Dolphy already?

"No, they don’t have a relationship. Sad! But I’m glad that Karylle and me, together with my two daughters (Nicole and Zia), have started bonding. Two years ago, we were in Amanpulo (Palawan) and last year we were in Hong Kong. Next year, the four of us are traveling together again."

So you are deep into the healing process.

"Actually, more siya. Not so much ako. Kasi, up to now she’s not allowed (by her father) to enter my house. It’s his rule and we respect that. I hope she heals in her own time."

Karylle is doing well on her own. Doesn’t it make you feel insecure? Isn’t there any professional jealousy between the two of you?

"I’m very proud of her. When we had a show at the Music Museum, I saw to it that her name was billed ahead of mine and that her photo was placed on the left side, prominently. I’d give her all the advice that I could but then siempre, nandyan pa rin ang father niya at siya ang masusunod. I have to respect that."

In the movie, you delivered the line "Ako legal wife..." so beautifully that it stuck in the public consciousness. When will you say it in real life? When are you and Dolphy getting married?

    "Definitely not this year."

If ever, where will the wedding be?

"I still don’t know. Everything is hanging. Nakabitin pa talaga. Dolphy and I have some kind of a ‘deal.’ Before we get married, I want him to settle everything – his finances and his properties, I mean – so that people won’t say that I’m marrying him only for his money. I have to remind everybody that I was already who I was, who I am, when I met him. I also don’t want his children to feel bad. So, there are so many things to be settled before we ever plan to get married."

So that "piece of paper" still means so much to you.

"Oh yes, of course. But more than that, as you say, ‘piece of paper,’ what’s important to us is peace of mind."

    Re: Zsa Zsa Padilla (OT)

    Zsa Zsa admits annulment traumatic

    A LITTLE BIT
    By Remy Umerez
    People's Journal

Zsa Zsa Padilla has not been appearing on the big screen for almost two years and "Ako Legal Wife" serves like a homecoming of sort to the chanteuse who starred in many Regal blockbusters.

Mother Lily had no one else in mind but Zsa Zsa to play the role since the phrase "ako, legal wife" has been attributed to her in the "Mano Po 2" movie.

Sadly, Zsa Zsa cannot utter the famous line in her real life. She and Dolphy has yet to tie the knot which they almost did after her marriage to Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari has been annulled.

Zsa Zsa said that the annulment experience proved to be very traumatic for her. She is happy the way things are and would rather focus more on her singing and
    acting career.

What would Dolphy, who has never married anyone, say about this?

Incidentally, the trailer of the immensely popular film series on Tsinoys ("Mano Po 4?") has been eliciting positive buzz and is now the most anticipated movie in the December MMFF. The Acoustic Jive has distinguished itself from other cover bands. They delkineate from the note-for-note covers that seem to proliferate the acoustic scene. Instead, the collective reworks popular songs from the ground up.

Formed in l994, it defied borders, fusing jazz, rock, pop, R&B, blues and reggaes in their inimitable way. All its members are seasoned pros: May Bayot (vocals), Romy Jorolan (vocals and acoustic steel guitar), Danny Buenaventura (flute and sax), Gerry Duran (nylon guitar), Bobby Fider (bass) Soc Alfafara (percussion) and Rene Tanggasantos (drums).

Among their signature reworks are fresh acoustic arrangements of the Police's popular hits, U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Bob Marley's reggae classics and jazzed up Pinoy folk songs.

Celebrate l0 years with the Acoustic Jive at Merk's Bar Bistro, all Tuesdays of December. Merks Bar Bistro is at the third level of Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati City with telephone 757-4720 and 757-4721.

    Re: Zsa Zsa Padilla (OT)

Zsa Zsa wants closure to failed marriage

Zsa Zsa Padilla longs for the day when she and estranged husband, Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari, could sit down and put a closure to their failed relationship.

"I just want a closure between my ex and me," the singer-actress said. "I just want to sit down with him and talk… about things but we never seem to have the right time to do it. And maybe I can say someday my ex is my friend which has never been that way."

Zsa Zsa and her dentist husband have been estranged for many years now, even before she met and started living in with Comedy King Dolphy. Their only child, singer-actress Karylle, lives with Dr. Tatlonghari.

The couple’s marriage has been officially annulled but Zsa Zsa still carries her married name. There’s still a lot of paper work to be done before she and Dolphy can finally tie the knot. But she is unperturbed. Despite the complications, she says she is happy with Dolphy. “We did have our share of problems and we admitted that on television but that’s normal. But everything is smooth sailing now and it’s great,"Zsa Zsa says that despite their age difference of 36 years, “I’d like to think he’s (Dolphy) still blindly in love with me!" Dolphy revealed in one interview that the 41-year-old Zsa Zsa, whose curves and charm could put to shame some women half her age, is his Viagra.
