Touching song from Gary after near death

GARY Valenciano's first composition in five years, "Break Me," is
truly a heartbreaking song about losing someone you love, coping with
the tragedy, and moving on with life by being broken so you can be
made whole again. Gary has dedicated the song to the late Universal
Records exec, Bella Tan, and Jeffrey (Bella's son), has now made a
music video of the song which took them three days to shoot on 35 mm
film at the staggering cost of P4 million.

The result is a touching filmic experience with model Tina Pamintuan
as the leading lady who perishes in a car accident. You never really
know how she's related to Gary but not particularizing their
relationship makes the music video something anyone who has lost a
loved one can easily relate with. This makes it a perfect tribute to
Bella Tan who has touched the lives of many people through the
countless records her company's artists have produced.

The music video was launched to much acclaim at "ASAP" while Gary
celebrates his 41st birthday. "If life begins at 40, then I've just
    started," he says.

Gary has just been named Entertainer of the Year again at the recent
Aliw Awards and he's now elevated to its Hall of Fame. He also won
the best male concert performance in a major venue for
this "Thankful" concert last year at the Araneta Coliseum. Gary
really has much to be thankful for. Recently, at the ABS-CBN show in
Los Angeles, he nearly lost his life when he had an unexpected
insulin reaction while he was sleeping. It's good his wife, Angeli
Pangilinan, woke up in time to see what's happening to him and
quickly called 911 to give him emergency treatment. "I could've gone
into coma if I wasn't attended to right away," he says.

So many other things are happening in Gary's career. On September 2,
he will be at the Araneta once again for the concept "Symphony of the
Heart", where he'll sing with the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra,
conducted by no less than Ryan Cayabyab who'd make new arrangements
of some of his songs. He will be singing with ABS talents Erik Santos
    and Sheryn Regis.

From September to November, he'll also do a U.S. concert tour,
starting with Houston, Texas on September 30, followed by Chicago on
October 2, El Paso Texas on October 7, McAllen Texas on October 9,
Seattle on October 28, Cache Creek Casino Resort in California on
October 30, Tampa Florida on Onvember 4, and Pechanga Resort in
California on November 11. Upon his return, Gary will be launching
his album of all new pop songs, with four of his newest compositions.

    No sugar-coating for Gary V
First posted 11:07pm (Mla time) Aug 11, 2005

    Inquirer News Service

HIS wife and manager, Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, describes Gary V's
latest diabetic attack as "the worst in two decades."

To make matters scarier, it happened while they were away from home (in the
thick of the ABS-CBN "Kapamilya Summer Caravan" in California last month).

Undoubtedly, such a life-threatening crisis helps put things in perspective.

Then again, Gary V has always been the reflective sort.

Especially since he is launching two landmark projects-"Pure Heart," his
first CD under Star Records and "Symphony of the Heart," his first concert
with the 64-piece San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra and Ryan Cayabyab (Sept.
    2 at the Araneta Coliseum).

These days, Mr. Pure Energy is at his most, well, heartfelt.

How do you feel when you watch your sons Paolo and Gabriel and daughter
    Keanna perform?

Like a stage father. I would often rush backstage and give them tips. But I
am very proud of them. It's not easy being the child of a celebrity. There's
    so much expectation.

    What do you advise them?

That they have their own wings. I say, "Dance your own way. Sing your own
    way. Don't worry about me."

Have they opened up to you about this?

Yah. It's not easy. There's much pressure, especially on Paolo because he
doesn't really dance. But he moves to a different beat. His alternative rock
band Salamin is doing quite well!

Can we talk about your recent health scare?

Well, it was the most recent and the worst. It was a close call. I don't
mind talking about it because I know there are many families who are coping
with diabetes. A person may or may not survive [an attack]. And if he pulls
through, he may not survive it intact. There may be some brain damage. Or he
may fall into a coma. I was a hairline away from that.

    Now?

    I'm fine.

What can you say to diabetics and their families?

To be extra careful when traveling to other time zones. That was what
happened to me: I took my insulin on an empty stomach. And I fell asleep
because of jet lag. Since I didn't eat, there was nothing to balance the
    insulin.

What can you say about Gary V clones?

If a newcomer is eyeing a career, he should find his own voice. When I
started, I liked Michael Jackson and Al Jarreau. But I evolved.

If "Symphony of the Heart" is your dream concert, what's the concept of your
    dream album?

Oh, wow! There are several. One is a children's album.

Someone told me there's never been a generation as physically prepared and
as mentally alert as today's youth, and yet they're also the most
emotionally scarred. That's why a lot of them take up dance, music, the
arts, to hide all the pain. They let it all out through music.

    Re: Gary Valenciano (OT)

Gary Valenciano is releasing a new album, "Pure Heart" late this month, but
it will not be under Universal Records. Star Records releases this new
    album.

Gary said this compilation album of songs that is meant to touch the
sentimental heartstrings of Filipinos everywhere else in the world, he had
personally presented to his good friend Bella Tan, the first lady of
Universal Records, before she passed away.

"I remember her words to me then was that she wanted that kind of very
meaningful album from me very much, whether it will be released under
Universal or any other recording company," Gary said, at the same time
announcing that in the near future, he will be releasing an all-new album
under his home recording company. "I have three more albums to complete in
    my contract under Universal."

But more than the new album, Gary is even busier preparing for his
once-in-a-lifetime show with the Maestro Ryan Cayabyab at the Araneta
Coliseum on Sept. 2 billed "Symphony of the Heart."

Evidently apprehensive about the preparations being made for a full
orchestra concert which he hasn't done in 20 years, Gary said, "the kind of
music that a full orchestra allows affects me very much. I remember that
when I hear one of my songs arranged in a full orchestra, like when I sang
"Once Upon A Life" for Mr. C's 5th anniversary at the CCP years ago, I got
carried away by the sheer beauty of the arrangement. I expect that I'd be
more emotional doing this show with Mr. C."

The Sept. 2 show was supposed to be a birthday concert for Gary who
celebrated his special day last Aug. 6, "but because of the many concerts
that I did abroad, we didn't have enough time to prepare for an August show.
That's why everyone felt relieved when we finally decided to move it at a
    later date."

Admits to be being very excited to work again with Mr. C, Gary says he will
be doing songs like "Once Upon A Life," "How Did You Know," a medley of rock
songs arranged in today's flavor of contemporary rock, and many others. I
will also be allowed to do my own arrangement for an instrumental music that
I wrote, which was part of my 'Beyond Words' album. I'll conduct that one,"
he said proudly, with a sheepish smile.

In "Symphony of the Heart," Gary and Mr. C will be joined by the San Miguel
Philharmonic Orchestra, his sons Paolo and Gabriel, Erik Santos, Sheryn
Regis, the Powerplay Band. Musical direction is by Mon Faustino and Mr. C.
    Johnny Manahan directs for television.

"I don't know if after this concert ay
    Gary Valenciano

makakagawa ulit ako ng ganito. Well, sana... pero sa tingin ko, this is my biggest concert ever," wika pa niya.

Of course, kabilang sa mga repertoire ni Gary ay ang kanyang mga hit songs from Once Upon A Life to Kailangan Kita and How Did You Know.

The concert also serves as a reunion of sorts for Gary V and Director Johnny Manahan in the live concert scene. Although they work together every week in ASAP '05, it has been a while since the two teamed up for a major concert.

Kasama rin sa album ang mga kantang My Destiny (with Ella Mae Saison), Kailan, How Did You Know, Because of You, Kailangan Kita, Lift Up Your Hands at marami pang iba.

"I wanted to go back to school to learn new things sa technical side including directing," aniya.

    Re: Gary Valenciano (OT)

Gary V. as UNICEF goodwill ambassador

    By JAYCON YANEZA

Pop icon and role model Gary Valenciano has inspired the youth. Turning 41 years old last Aug. 6, he’s still remarkably fit and as lively as his title suggests – "Mr. Pure Energy." Gary still possesses what it takes to be on the top. He looks perfectly healthy and he manifests no sign of slowing down in his career as he can still do all the singing and the dancing that he’s been doing through the years.

Being associated with and having appealed to the youth with his music, Gary has established a connection with the young generation, most especially with his funky pop songs. He’s been supported by the young people and he reciprocates the love by showing his concern and believing in kids as the new wave of the future.

To bolster his solid support and belief in the importance of children as the hope of our country’s future, Gary agreed to become a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF to uphold the rights of child offenders. Last Aug. 11, he was guest of honor at the program of the Juvenile Justice Network-Philippines held at the Manila Youth Reception Center (MYRC) in Intramuros, together with UNICEF Philippines representative Dr. Nicholas K. Alipui and other child rights advocates.

"I’m here not as an artist but as a friend. Everyone has the right to be given another chance. I believe that children can change for the better and grow up to be good individuals. As a parent, I understand kids. Especially when you look them in the eye where you can see the truth. Parents can commit mistakes too. I recognize my share of faults. It is important to have an open relationship with children because they are special," he said.

"I’ve seen the movie ‘Bunso’ and I believe that kids don’t belong in jail. Kids deserve to be protected, guided properly and be taken care for. I know that juvenile kids can change and inspire others with their stories and experiences. Nothing is impossible according to the Bible. Change is inevitable in people. Don’t leave God because he’ll never leave you. Time will heal all wounds but only the Word of God and the truth shall set you free. Everyone’s got battles in life. Just hang in there. Entrust your lives to God and He will bless you. He’s been there for me and I know He’s there for you too," he added.

Aside from delivering a touching speech, Gary also sang and danced his inspirational songs with the kids to the delight of all the spectators at the center. He also even reached out to people and willingly entertained autographs and photo opportunities.

Below are the info we got from our Q&A with Mr. Pure Energy himself, Gary V!

Q: Being a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, what are plans?

A: We’ve got many events lined up for kids. We just don’t go airing it all to the media because we want the children to act and respond naturally to it. We want to be humble and personal about it. We just speak about it on TV sometimes to build awareness and get moral support from people. We do this out of our free will and with good intentions so we don’t really like to brag and announce everything that we do. It’s about the welfare of the kids that’s important to us.

Q: How would you describe yourself as a father?

A: Being a father is a full-time 24/7 job. But I don’t treat it as a job because I love it. I love my kids. On a scale of 10, I think I’d rate myself a 7. I’m not a perfect parent but I think I raised my kids well. My kids and I have an open and wholesome relationship. Paolo’s 21, Gabby’s 17, and Kiana’s 12. I always grab the opportunity to spend quality time with my kids and know what’s going on in their lives and get involved.

Q: You got a new music video out, "Break Me." Can you tell us about it?

A: I have two new albums bound for release., one with Star Records. It’s meant for young Pinoys and it’s all about hope. You should listen to the beautiful cut "Lipad Ng Pangarap" which sends the message across to people that it’s okay to dream and go for it. Aim high. I believe that more entertainers should get involved in inspiring the youth to improve their lives and live them properly in the right path.

Q: What’s your final word to everyone out there?

A: Parents should stand up for their kids. I admire those who have abnormal kids and love them the same as if they didn’t have any disability because that is just right. UNICEF aims to have the juvenile justice bill passed to protect the interest and welfare of children. I believe that the rights of the young ones should be upheld. They should not be rehabilitated in jails. Jails are not for kids. My message for the present administration, even for the next one, and for all the congressmen as well is that they should give priority to juvenile kids so that they can be reformed in the right way because I believe that prevention is better than cure. We can still do something and change them when they are young. Children just imitate adults. So they must be given proper care and guidance so that they may grow up properly with decency. Because our nation’s future is in the hands of the next generation.

This will be remembered as one of my best concerts ever. It’s very close to my heart," say ni Gary.

Puro taga-ABS-CBN kaya sila?
