PDP-Laban officially names Digong, Alan as 2016 bets

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano were officially declared as PDP-Laban’s tandem for the 2016 national elections.

PDP-Laban President, Senator Koko Pimentel introduced Duterte as party standard-bearer while Cayetano—as per the Davao leader’s wish—was named his running mate.

“Your wish has been granted,” an obviously ecstatic Pimentel said, referring to the public who had been yearning for “The Punisher” to join next year’s presidential race.

Pimentel even hyped the 70-year-old mayor as the “strongest candidate” for the presidency.

The party declaration, which came over two weeks after Duterte expressed openness to run for the Palace seat, took place at Century Park hotel.

Upon Duterte’s arrival at the hotel, a pastor anointed his forehead with oil.

Duterte later said of the presidency: “If God wants me to be there, I’ll be there.”

2 WIVES, 2 GIRLFRIENDS

Duterte: If I can love 100M Pinoys, I can love 4 women
Published November 30, 2015 6:50pm

Davao City mayor and presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte is torn between four lovers, and he's embracing the fact completely, even amid criticisms.

In a speech after he was officially endorsed by the PDP-Laban as its standard bearer on Monday, the tough-talking local executive even went as far as saying that he would choose women over love, money and even the presidency.

"If you can love your fellow men, if you love the Filipino people -- love enough to serve you and to die for you -- how can I not love four women in my life?" he said.

"When I say I'm here because I love the Filipino people, and I'm ready to serve, certainly...  If I can love 100 million and one, I can love four women at the same time," added Duterte, who filed his certificate of candidacy for president Friday last week.

He added: "Alam n'yo bakit sinasadya ko 'yan? 'Yan ang atake nila sa akin."

During his speech, Duterte teased a friend who he said is a doctor for his ailing wife, Elizabeth, as well as one of his girlfriends.

"Mga apat na Mrs. Duterte," he said, drawing laughter from the audience. "Minsan nalilito siya."

In an event in Taguig City on Sunday -- Taguig being the turf of his running mate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano -- Duterte, 70, drew cheers from the crowd as he also disclosed that he has two wives and two girlfriends.

He makes the candid confession even when his COC for president says he is single.

"Sinasabi nila, 'Anong credentials mo? Anong ipapakita mo sa Pilipinas? Balita namin babaero ka?' Tama. Tama talaga. May asawa ako, may pangalawang asawa ako," he said before supporters.

Aside from Elizabeth, with whom he has three children -- Sara, Paolo, and Sebastian -- Duterte said he has a second wife, a former nurse in the US, with whom he has a daughter named Veronica.

He said he got his second wife pregnant when he was a congressman, going to and fro the US.

Aside from them, he adds: "Dalawa ang girlfriend ko," both of whom are working in a mall in Davao City. He says the younger and "more ambitious" of them works in the cosmetics department, while the other -- "medyo matanda na pero mas maganda" -- is a cashier.

"Gusto n'yo akong maging presidente? Kailangan n'yo malaman ang pagkatao ko... Wala akong tinatago," he said.

'Hindi nabubuhay sa pera ng gobyerno'

The mayor, however, was proud to say that while he has four women in his life, he supports them with money from his own pocket.

"I assure you, people of Metro Manila: Hindi ito nabubuhay sa pera ng gobyerno," he told the crowd. "Hindi sa DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program)... Simple lang itong mga babaeng ito... Hindi sila nabubuhay sa pera ng Siyudad ng Davao."

He added: "Binubuhay ko sila sa sweldo ko, at allowances... Malaki-laki naman 'yun, kaya kapag mayor ka, hindi na kailangang mangurakot."

Duterte even said in jest that he has rented a room for each of them in a boarding house, at P1,500 a month.

He added that he thumbed down a request from his younger girlfriend for a secondhand car from Toyota, given his connection to the owner of the branch in Davao City.

He said he explained to her, "Ano naman ang biyahe natin sa buhay nating dalawa? Sunduin kita doon sa boarding house mo, pasok tayo sa motel -- short time lang naman -- tapos ihatid kita."

Duterte said that given his age, they somehow save on renting a room at the motel, since he can only go for one round -- and with the help of Viagra, he said.

"Noong bata pa ako, overnight. Medyo magastos 'yun... Ngayon, short time, kasi napaka-short na talaga ng panahon ko," he said.

'That is my happiness'

In an interview following Sunday night's event, Duterte says that if critics do not want to vote for him because he is a womanizer, they have other options.

"That would not deter me. That is my happiness. If you do not want me as president because I have four or five women, then you vote for... Marami naman diyan," he told reporters.

He said he is okay if he ranks low in surveys, and even if the Commission on Elections decides to disqualify him. He said that he would go back to his life in Davao, where he will retire, if that happens, or if he loses the election.

"Mas importante sa akin ang pag-ibig kaysa presidency. Totoo! Presidency -- sige, trabaho ka diyan, pero wala naman... Kung pag-ibig, maligaya ka sa loob at sa labas." —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KBK, GMA News

Duterte on cursing Pope Francis: He's compassionate, he'll understand

Published November 30, 2015 9:23pm

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte thinks Pope Francis will understand comments he made about the pontiff on Monday during his declaration speech as the standard-bearer of PDP-Laban.

The tough-talking mayor has come under fire from netizens for cussing out the pontiff during his rambling speech, which included an anecdote about getting stuck in traffic during last January's Papal Visit.

Duterte said it took him five hours to travel to the airport because of road closures.

"Sabi ko, 'Bakit?' Sabi sarado na [ang daan]. Sabi ko, 'Sinong darating?' Sabi si Pope. Gusto kong tawagan, 'Pope, p— ina ka, umuwi ka na. 'Wag ka nang bumisita dito," Duterte quipped.

In an ambush interview after his speech, Duterte said he thinks Pope Francis won't take issue with the comments.

"Compassionate si Pope. Maiintindihan niya ako. Kayo man maihi sa loob ng sasakyan, matutuwa ba kayo?" he said.

Duterte's running mate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano also defended the mayor's comments about the Pope.

"I think he was not referring to the Pope kasi I have heard him talk about that many times. He was talking about you should not close streets and inconvenience people for anyone in the world. But the way kasi he speaks about and shows frustrations kasi," he said.

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz refused to dwell on the comments made by Duterte toward the pontiff, but said the mayor's track record in womanizing and human rights make him unfit to be president.

"Papatay siya kung sino ang gusto niya. Mag-aasawa siya kung ilan ang gusto niya. Delikado 'yan kung talagang alam niya ang sinasabi niya. Nakakatakot," said Cruz. —JST, GMA News

Walang bastusan! Lacierda hits Duterte for attacking Pope Francis

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City is courting big trouble after reportedly disrespecting Pope Francis.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda took to Twitter to defend the beloved pontiff from the presidential aspirant from the south, saying he shouldn’t insult Francis.

“Mayor Duterte, you can say all you want about politicians but you don’t curse my Pope Francis! #defendthepope,” Lacierda tweeted.

Duterte earlier hurled a stream of invective at the pope for supposedly causing heavy traffic when he visited the country last January. The Pope, known for his simplicity and for bringing the Church closer to the people, is well loved by Filipinos.

Duterte says favoring Poe can lead to PH break up. Here’s his theory

Davao City Mayor and PDP-Laban presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte
believes that giving natural-born Filipino citizen status to foundling Senator Grace Poe would ultimately break up the country.

According to the testosterone-charged politiko, to consider Poe a natural-born Filipino citizen would be tantamount to mocking the Constitution. Duterte said this mistake can lead to geopolitical divisiveness.

“The Moro people…would declare the Republic of Mindanao. ‘Ayaw na namin. Yung Constitution niyo inyo lang yan eh. You don’t honor it anyway. Why should we?’ Yan ang mahirap dyan,” he told supporters at Century Park hotel on Monday.

“Honor the Constitution. You break it, you break this country. Do not mangle it with so many interpretations. It will only create division,” Duterte warned.

Earlier, the the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) voted 5-4 to dismiss a petition seeking to disqualify Poe, in effect declaring her a natural-born Filipino citizen. This makes her fit to run for the presidency next year.

“Wag mo nang pahabain ang storya with treaty-treaty. A treaty cannot amend the Constitution,” insisted Duterte.

“All the treaty says is… You are a citizen of the country where you are found, period. It does not say that you are considered or recognized as a natural-born Filipino citizen,” he said.

Macho Rodrigo Duterte claims he has more than 3 balls

PDP-Laban presidential bet, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte
claims to be manlier than everybody else, saying he has not two but three jewels inside his pants.

“Hindi ako nagyayabang. Dalawa bayag mo? Tatlo tong akin. Hawakan mo. May bayag ako ha,” Duterte said at one point during his lengthy impromptu speech Monday afternoon when he was declared party standard-bearer.

“Sige ilan ang bayag mo? Tanungin mo mga doktor, itong aking tatlo ha! Totoo. Oo papahawakan ko, pero (sa) babae lang,” added the tough-talking Duterte, who followed up with his signature deadpan stare.

The 70-year-old politiko made the scrotum segue as he rued how criminals have been “making a mockery out of the law” in the country.

“Itong mga walang hiya na may sungay, they don’t really bother. Magholdup sila, they go out kidnapping people. Tinatakot nila tayo ng kamatayan kung hindi maglabas ng pera.

“Simple lang ako. Crime has to stop,” Duterte said.

The Davao leader in particular noted the “planters” of illegal paraphernalia like shabu who prey on civilians at checkpoints.

“Kapag ang shabu maraming quantity, there is an inquest immediately tapos no bail ka na. Alam mo ang anak mo walang kasalanan pero you cannot bear that thought that your child is mixed there with the criminals. Kaya bayad ka na lang.

“Kapag ganoon, putangina mo patayin talaga kita,” Duterte said, noting that he has the balls—three of them—to carry out his threat.

Not Poe or Duterte: LP sees VP Binay as Roxas’ most formidable foe in 2016. Find out why

Despite Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Grace Poe lording it over in the presidential surveys, the Liberal Party believes that Vice President Jejomar Binay is still the man to beat in the 2016 elections.

Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice said that Binay remained as the LP presidential bet Mar Roxas’ most formidable Poe in the 2016 elections.

Suveys showed that Duterte and Poe are leading opinion polls on presidential preferences with Binay, Roxas and Senator Miram Defensor-Santiago trailing behind.

In an interview with DZMM’s Karen Davila and Vic Lima, Erice said that he expected that both the Commission on Elections and Supreme Court would disqualify Poe because she could not prove that she was a natural-born citizen (she is a foundling) and she lacked the 10-year residency requirement to run for president.

“The Comelec has made many decisions disqualifying governors and mayor due to questions on citizenship and residency,” said Erice.

Although he did not comment on the status of Duterte, the LP has doubted whether the Comelec would allow Duterte’s ploy to substitute as PDP-Laban’s presidential bet noted that Duterte has simply failed to file his certificate for presidential run more than a month after the October 16 deadline.

This would leave Binay, Roxas and Santiago in a less crowded, three-way fight scenario.

 Like Ko4 Hate Ko

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has fired back at Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo for saying an iron-fisted rule isn’t necessary to transform a certain area.

Duterte said he is unperturbed about Robredo’s statement because he dislikes her.

“I do not also subscribe the style of her leadership. Tabla lang kami — she does not like me, I do not like her, so no problem,” he told reporters in Davao City.

On his television program, Duterte was again asked for his reaction to Robredo’s statement. He said: “I hate to respond on questions, issues coming from lady candidates. Ang masasabi ko lang kung ang iyong Naga City ay peaceful, wala problema sa droga, walang problema sa mga kriminal, ang leadership dili manghilabot nimo (hindi makikialam sa inyo).”

The mayor said he won’t interfere in Naga City since it appears not to have a criminality problem.

“We will not go to Naga. We will ignore the law and order in Naga tutal kaya naman nilang i-improve. We will never interfere in Naga,” he said.

Robredo, who’s running for vice president under the Liberal Party, earlier said she doesn’t subscribe to Duterte’s near-authoritarian ways because she believes progress could be achieved by empowering the people.

Citing her experience in Naga City where her late husband Jesse Robredo served as mayor for more than 10 years, the lawmaker told editors and reporters of the Philippine Star: “We achieved the same results in Naga… ‘yung peace and order, ‘yung discipline among the people… we achieved the same things without that kind of attitude.”

Riot na ‘to! Civic group leader warns of revolution if Comelec DQs Duterte

Die-hard fans of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte could start an upheaval if the Commission on Elections (Comelec) bars him from running, social change movement Bayan Ko adviser Jose Alejandrino has warned.

Speaking to Philippine Star columnist Carmen Pedrosa, Alejandrino noted that Duterte has gained a following because of the perception that he is firm in his resolve to change the government.

Because of his formidable showing in popularity polls— with Pulse Asia showing him leading the presidential race in Metro Manila— Alejandrino said Duterte is now perceived as a real threat by the “established order” who wants traditional politikos to win as president.

However, he cautioned against the mayor’s disqualification because it would further inflame the sensibilities of Duterte’s supporters.

f the Comelec disqualifies him, then I see a major revolt by the Dutertistas who now appear to be the majority and then we could have the start of a real revolution that could bring down the established order. That is probably part of God’s plan to eradicate evil and rebuild a new Philippines. Let us see how events unfold,” Alejandrino said.

There has been speculation as to whether Duterte will be allowed to run since the candidate he substituted for, anti-crime advocate Martin Diño, indicated he will run for Pasay City mayor in the certificate of candidacy he filed last October.

NPC: Only 'negligible' few to move from Poe to Duterte

NPC President Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao believes only candidates from Davao provinces, if any, might change alliances

SOLID. Nationalist People's Coalition president and Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao says NPC remains 'solid' behind Senators Grace Poe and Escudero, even after Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has declared his presidential bid. File photo by Camille Elemia/Rappler

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The president of the Nationalist People’s Coalition assured the tandem of Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero that the party remains “solid” behind them.

Isabela Representative Giorgidi Aggabao, the head of the 2nd biggest political party in the country, shrugged off issues that some NPC members might shift their support to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte has declared his intention to run for president in 2016, although it remains unclear if the Commission on Elections would allow him to substitute for Martin Diño of the party PDP-Laban due to technicalities. (READ: Duterte faces 1st petition vs presidential bid)

While Aggabao did not discount the possibility of shifting alliances, he said these few politicians would likely come from Duterte’s hometown, Davao City.

"I foresee that there would be crossovers. But they would be negligible I think, confined only to our Davao provinces candidates, if any at all. The support of most NPC remains solid behind Poe-Chiz nationwide," Aggabao told Rappler on Monday, November 30.

Escudero also shrugged off the possibility of losing allies, now that Duterte has decided to run for president.

“I don’t think so but, then again, in politics anything can happen. We have and will always expect the worst and hope for the best in this campaign,” Escudero said.

While there is no official declaration yet, the NPC is widely believed to be supporting the Poe-Escudero tandem. After all, NPC senatorial bets are running in the Poe-Escudero slate, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian is Poe’s spokesman, and NPC Cebu chairman Ace Durano is the campaign manager.

NPC senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, for his part, said NPC members usually toe the party line.

“Bihira ang lumilihis. Let’s wait for the official NPC announcement in January,” Sotto said.

(It's rare that somebody deviates from the party decision. Let's wait for the official NPC announcement in January.)

Threat to Poe?

Asked if Duterte is a threat to the candidacies of Poe and Escudero, Aggabao expressed doubts that the people would actually vote for the popular mayor.

“No worry at all. People will listen to Duterte. His coarse language is amusing to many. But at bottom, I doubt it they will vote for him,” Aggabao said.

Duterte, in an event on Sunday night in Taguig, admitted he is a womanizer and that he has killed a few criminals in his city. The public has expressed both amusement and disgust at his pronouncements.

NPC spokesman and Quezon Representative Mark Enverga admitted Duterte’s entry in the presidential race will change the survey landscape from now on.

This is the same prediction made by Poe, who earlier said Duterte would further divide the votes for all presidential bets.

“We are in the belief that Mayor Duterte’s entry will make changes in survey numbers. As to who among the presidential candidates will be affected by his entry in the race, that has yet to be seen in the upcoming surveys,” Enverga said.

While admitting Duterte is a “serious contender,” Durano said it is too early to predict anything.

“Although we are conscious of how the other candidates are doing, we are focused on the strengths and opportunities of Senators Grace and Chiz. We assess the effectiveness of our campaign on a weekly basis. Necessary adjustments will be made as the need arises,” Durano said.

But Senator Serge Osmeña, a veteran of political campaigns, said Poe would be the "biggest loser" now that Duterte is also running.

Citing a Pulse Asia survey he commissioned in September when the mayor shot down plans of a presidential campaign, Osmeña said a big chunk of Duterte's votes went to Poe.

"Well, because the biggest beneficiary of his withdrawal 2 months ago was Grace Poe, ergo, the biggest loser will be Grace Poe. Noong pag-drop namin kay Mayor Duterte, out of the 17% that he was getting at the time, 9% would go to Grace Poe, tapos iyong balance paghahatian ni Roxas and Binay. So by logical extension, nagtuloy siya, he is going to get from Grace Poe," Osmeña said in a radio interview on Monday, November 30. – Rappler.com

Duterte bid blooms as that of Poe fades

A GROWING number of voters seem to be realizing that Sen. Grace Poe Llamanzares’ claim to being a natural-born citizen is legally untenable and her executive track record not that solid – while they see an alternative would-be president in tough-talking Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

It is too early to say as the numbers have not firmed up. Still, the last survey in Metro Manila – far from the home ground of Duterte – showed him leading the presidential pack with 34 percent against the 26 percent of Poe, the erstwhile favorite.

Last September when he was not yet a declared presidential candidate, Duterte with 27 percent already placed second to Poe in Metro Manila, behind her 31 percent. Binay was third with 26 percent, and Roxas fourth with 13 percent.

We are reading Duterte’s chart against Poe’s, because the mayor said he was prompted to run after the political majority in the Senate Electoral Tribunal ruled that the neophyte senator is natural-born and therefore qualified to keep her Senate seat (and run for president).

Duterte leads Pulse Asia survey in Metro Manila; Poe says result is ‘inconclusive’

Duterte has overtaken Poe as Metro Manila’s most preferred candidate for president in the latest Pulse Asia survey
The mayor says he is happy to be leading in the survey for the first time
But Poe’s camp says the poll result was ‘inconclusive’ and not ‘reflective’ of the general sentiment of the people

MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has topped the latest Pulse Asia survey for Metro Manila this month; overtaking Senator Grace Poe for the first time. But Poe’s camp argued that the mock poll result is ‘inconclusive’.

In the privately-commissioned survey conducted among 300 Metro Manila respondents on November 11 and 12, Duterte trounced all rivals for president with 34 percent; with Poe coming in second with 26 percent.

Vice President Jejomar Binay was a close third with 21 percent, followed by former Interior secretary Mar Roxas with 11 percent and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with 7 percent.

Duterte scored well among the poor class, as well as among upper and middle classes. It was the first time he topped a survey among Metro Manila residents, which was earlier dominated by Poe.

In September, when Duterte was still undecided about his presidential run, he only placed second with 27 percent to Poe’s 31 percent.

But the camp of Senator Grace Poe said the latest pre-election survey result is neither conclusive nor reflective of the general sentiment of the voting public.

Asked for comments, Poe’s spokesperson Sherwin Gatchalian said in a text message to reporters that survey gives only a snap shot of the people’s sentiment at a given time, and sentiments “change regularly depending on what message people hear.”

Gatchalian added Poe’s camp is resolved to continue its drive in explaining to people the lady senator’s “inclusive governance”, which means “no one will be left behind.”

“Furthermore, the survey only covers NCR (National Capital Region), there is more to the Philippines than Metro Manila,” Gatchalian said

“Hence, at this point the survey is inconclusive and not reflective of the sentiments of the country,” he added.

Meanwhile, reacting to the same Pulse Asia poll result, Duterte said he is happy to know that he is leading, or even tying Poe’s ratings at this time.

Duterte admitted earlier that Poe’s insistence she is a natural-born citizen, and therefore qualified to run for higher office, is what made him decide to reconsider his early decision.

“I am running on a matter of principle because I don’t want anyone messing up the Constitution,” the mayor said. “It’s a matter of principle and there are times and events in your life that you just do what you have to do.”

Duterte is expected to officially declare his candidacy as PDP-Laban’s standard bearer alongside Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in the coming days before the substitution period ends in December.
