« on: December 10, 2013, 09:59:27 PM »

(UPDATE) While still raising funds for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan), international pop star Justin Bieber reportedly arrived in Manila on Tuesday morning, December 10.

According to ABS-CBN News, Justin arrived at 7:10 AM via a private plane “at a private hangar near Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 2.”

A source told Yahoo Philippines OMG! Bieber rented Willie Revillame's private plane and is now en route to Tacloban City, one of the places hardest hit by Yolanda, for his mission.

Justin’s destination is unknown yet but he reportedly arrived in the Philippines to personally do his share in helping the victims, who were hit by the super typhoon last November 8.

With his aim to “give back to the Philippines,” Justin launched a global campaign with Prizeo.com. Their goal is to raise $1 million, which will go to Unicef, Action Hunger and Philam Foundation.

“The typhoon has affected the lives of millions. Everyone knows that I've got the best fans in the world. So the moment I heard about the tragedy a few weeks back, I know I can count on you guys to make a difference. So I'm looking for you guys to help me help them. Check prizeo.com/Justin. Every time you're giving back, I'm doing something I've never done before. I'm (going to) bring a winner to come show him the studio with me next year. I want you guys come help me in the studio. Just give me some ideas. But first you guys gotta give back. Come help raise money and come to studio with me. So please, please, help me, help them,” Justin said in the promotional video.

Those who want to help can donate $10 or more, which also earn them a chance to win an exclusive pass in Justin’s studio. Donors will also receive various items, such as shirts, signed Justin Bieber photo, bracelets, depending on the amount they will donate.

Justin has been updating his fans on Twitter regarding the amount they have already raised. Just few days after ins launch, they have already raised $609,345 as of posting.

Fans flock to the airport

Even before Justin’s arrival, his Filipino fans have already been expressing their excitement in social media. His fans flocked to NAIA in hopes of seeing Justin in person. NAIA, Justin Bieber and Tacloban trended on Twitter.

Aside from his musical talent, many admire Justin because of his personal relief efforts to the typhoon victims and using his big influence to help more people.

Justin Bieber plays hoops against Chot Reyes in Tacloban

Justin Bieber experienced first hand just how much the Philippines loves the game of basketball. After performing for the victims of the typhoon Yolanda and some volunteers, Bieber was brought to a make-shift basketball court where he took on Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes in a friendly one-on-one game of hoops.

“Guess who's hoopin here in Tacloban” Reyes tweeted through his account @coachot. It included a picture of Bieber wearing a black cap and shirt on the mud court.

DJ Sta. Ana, TV5's Head of New Operations, then posted a photo of the pick-up game between Reyes and Bieber through his Instagram account.

When one Twitter user commented that Reyes showed Bieber he still had moves, the coach replied with "PUSO!," which was the Philippine team's battlecary during the FIBA-Asia Championship.

In the days after Yolanda struck Tacloban, pictures of Bieber started circulating with claims that the pop star was in the area. However, the pictures were apparently taken elsewhere. Bieber flew to Tacloban on-board his private jet to bring joy to the victims through his music. Bieber has also raised money for the victims through a global campaign with Prizeo.com.

Bieber is known to be a big fan of basketball. He has watched his share of Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat games. Bieber also joined the BBVA All-Star Celebrity Game in the 2011 NBA All Star Weekend.

Justin Bieber brings cheer in typhoon-hit PH

TACLOBAN -- (UPDATED) Pop megastar Justin Bieber hugged, sang to, danced and played with young survivors of the Philippines' deadliest typhoon Tuesday, bringing cheer to the disaster zone amid an international relief effort.

Bieber flew unannounced to the city of Tacloban just over a month after it was devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) and sang Christmas carols to children at a heavily damaged local school amid tight security.

"He sang 'Holy Night' for the children," said Kate Donovan, a spokeswoman for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), one of three aid agencies expected to benefit from Bieber's charity work.

During the performance, a boy hopped on the improvised stage and danced to the 19-year-old Canadian superstar's lead, an AFP reporter saw.

Bieber also played basketball at an improvised sandlot court with some of the young boys, later hugging some of them and posing for photos.

"Most touching trip of my life," the singer said on Twitter, also describing the performance as the last stop and "the most important one" of his global "Believe" tour.

"I saw the devastation first hand today. They need our help," he added.

Prior to visiting the Philippines, Bieber had posted a message on fund raising website Prizeo.com urging his millions of fans to donate to the victims of the typhoon, the strongest to ever hit land.

"UNICEF is very pleased that Justin Bieber wanted to visit Tacloban, and stopped by City Central Elementary School which has suffered a great deal of structural damage," UNICEF emergency coordinator Angela Kearney said.

"Justin brought a lot of joy, hope and cheer to the hundreds of children who were there," she added.

The money that would be raised would give child survivors access to education, vaccinations, clean water and sanitation, she said.

Haiyan cut across the central Philippines on November 8, destroying scores of communities along its path.

Tsunami-like storm surges it triggered also swallowed up many coastal areas, and were blamed for majority of the nearly 6,000 deaths.

More than 1,700 others remain missing and about four million have been displaced.

In his message on Prizeo, Bieber, one of the most followed persons on Twitter and best known for hit songs such as "Baby," "Boyfriend" and "Beauty and a Beat," said those donating to his cause could win a chance to personally see him record music next year.

"In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, its victims in the Philippines need our help -- and they need it now," the singer said in his appeal.

Many other international celebrities have also lent their voices to the massive rehabilitation effort, including Grammy-award winning singer Alicia Keys who visited victims airlifted to Manila two weeks ago.

MANILA - Pop superstar Justin Bieber arrived in the country on Tuesday, as part of his efforts to help raise funds for victims of super typhoon "Yolanda".

Bieber arrived via a private plane, which landed at a private hangar near Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.

Airport sources said Bieber arrived around 7:10 a.m. Immigration records also confirmed the singer's arrival.

Before his arrival, Bieber was busy promoting on Twitter his "GiveBackPhilippines" campaign which aims to raise $1 million for the victims of typhoon Yolanda.

Bieber said that those who will make donations will get a chance to hang out with him next year as he records new songs.

"Hey guys – it's Justin, In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, its victims in the Philippines need our help — and they need it now. That's why I've decided to partner with Prizeo to raise vital funds for the relief effort.

"I'm doing something I've never done before: for just a tiny donation to the relief effort, you'll be automatically entered for a chance to hang out with me in the studio early next year and watch me record some new music. I'll fly you and a friend over to join me in LA from wherever you are in the world. It's gonna be awesome. Not only that, but at different donation levels you'll receive guaranteed rewards, as well as more chances to win the grand prize. This is something I've never done before, and I'm so excited to hang out with one of my Beliebers," Bieber added.

Last month, Bieber took to Instagram to share a photo of a graffiti, which the Canadian superstar reportedly drew himself to raise funds for the survivors of super typhoon "Yolanda" in the Philippines.

The photo showed the 19-year-old singer posing similarly to the drawing of hands clasped in prayer. The figure is surrounded with the words "Pray 4 Philippines" and "JB," the heartthrob performer's initials.

Captioned "We all can help," the photo, as of writing, already had over 660,000 likes and 12,000 comments.

According to a report published on the popular American celebrity news website TMZ, Bieber drew the spray-paint art last Saturday as part of a fundraiser for the typhoon victims in Visayas.

"The plan is to auction off the spray cans, and a signed pic of the wall, and donate the money to a soon-to-be named Philippines typhoon relief group," the report said.

Citing a source, the report further noted that Bieber "wants to 'get involved' in efforts to restore the Philippines, and this is his first step." -- With report from Raoul Esperas
