Filipino lifestyle channel launches on Time Warner Cable

By Meg James
3:07 PM PDT, April 26, 2013

Filipinos living in Los Angeles and San Diego can now tune in to a primarily English-language channel called the Lifestyle Network, which launched this month on local Time Warner Cable systems.

The new channel is owned by ABS-CBN International, a subsidiary of the largest broadcasting company in the Philippines. Based in Redwood City, Calif., ABS-CBN International has operated in the U.S. for two decades and runs the Filipino Channel. The Lifestyle Network will be a blend of programming from the Philippines, the U.S. and other countries.

Programming is scheduled to include coverage of concerts and local festivals, a food show called "Chef's Table," a lifestyle magazine program called "Us Girls," and the news program "The World Tonight."

More than 1.5 million Filipinos live in California, with nearly half residing in the greater Los Angeles region. San Diego and Santa Clara counties also have large Filipino American communities.

"We recognize that The Filipino Channel needed a companion specialty channel that caters more to Filipinos who are looking for programming that addresses personal improvement, individual empowerment and expansion of one's world," ABS-CBN North America marketing executive Jun Del Rosario said in a statement.

Time Warner Cable has been tweaking its programming lineup. The company is trying to maintain customers, in part by adding destination channels. Time Warner Cable is spending tens of millions of dollars a year in its push into local sports programming with a channel devoted to the Los Angeles Lakers and another planned to televise Los Angeles Dodgers games beginning next season.

The Lifestyle Network is found on Channel 683 in Los Angeles and Channel 691 in San Diego for Time Warner Cable digital customers.

LIFESTYLE NETWORK’S NEWEST LOCAL TRAVELOGUE PREMIERES THIS SATURDAY

Chef Sandy gets his hands on Manang Glory's famous empanada

Chef Sandy Daza lets his hunger take him places…

A brand new adventure is about to take place for Chef Sandy Daza, as he takes viewers along in circling the Philippines to encounter the best local culinary delights in the Lifestyle Network’s newest travelogue, “FoodPrints”, which is set to premiere this Saturday (September 21).

His first quest takes him to the northernmost tip of Luzon, landing him in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Join Chef Sandy as he goes straight to the best places to get to know a region’s food culture, setting himself right in the middle of the hubbub of the busy Laoag Sunday market. There, he familiarizes himself with the tastes and cravings of the Ilocano people—taking on the famous Ilocos empanada, bagnet with KBL (kamatis, bagoong Balayan and lasona), and pinakbet. He even goes into the debate between Batac and Laoag longganisa, and visits the man who is known to have revolutionized Ilocano cuisine.

Meanwhile, in another locally-produced show, the Lifestyle Network’s “Curiosity Got the Chef” features the quirky Chef Sharwin Tee as he sets meat aside for a while, declaring a meat-free zone. Taking a leap of faith to see if he can make things greener on his side of the fence, Chef Sharwin is out to prove that a dish can be as rich and flavorful, even in the absence of bacon and the rest of its meaty relatives. Cooking up Veggie Hash and a 6-Minute Egg, Mucver with Spicy Sour Cream, Roasted Squash and Coconut Risotto, and Malted Choco Butter Pinipig Bites, Chef Sharwin makes vegetarian delight grow in all the right directions.

Don’t miss out on the Lifestyle Network’s best locally-produced shows, as  “FoodPrints” premieres on Saturday (September 21) at 8:30 p.m., with replays on Sundays at 3:00 p.m., Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m., and Fridays at 2:00 p.m., and “Curiosity Got the Chef” airs on Wednesday (September 18) at 9:30 p.m. For more details, visit and like the Lifestyle Network on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LifestyleNetwork.

Nice to see the LSN finally air on DirectTV here in New York probably in other DTV areas in the US as well.

I missed watching cooking shows like Chef's Table with Chef Bruce... Green Living is nice as well as the other programs.

Still odd that there are no real commercials during the programming gabs.
