Jericho Rosales and Andi Eigenmann meet at the story conference of "Aba Nakakabasa Na Pala Ako?!"
posted on Monday, September 30, 2013 - 03:33pm

Few days after he signed a three-picture deal with Viva Films, Jericho Rosales returned to the film outfit's headquarters for the story conference of Aba Nakakabasa Na Pala Ako?! last September 26.

Jericho met his new leading lady Andi Eigenmann, who's thrilled to be working with him for the first time.

Joining them in the story conference were their co-stars Meg Imperial and Vandolph Quizon, together with Director Mark Meily.

Aba Nakakabasa Na Pala Ako?! is a film adaptation of Bob Ong's first novelty book (2003), which gained popularity for its humorous depiction of absurdities inherent in Filipino urban culture.

Viva Films adapts Bob Ong novels, other romance bestsellers for the big screen
By Eric T. Cabahug, InterAkasyon.com · Thursday, October 3, 2013 · 10:58 am

Viva Films is returning to its literary roots. And with not just one, not two, but three upcoming movies based on Filipino books.

And as far as titles go, the three are some of the biggest local bestsellers — Bob Ong’s “ABNKKBSNPLAko” and “Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin”, and HaveYouSeenThisGirl’s “Diary ng Panget”.

“It’s like a homecoming for us,” says Viva head honcho Vincent del Rosario. “Viva made a name for itself in the business in the ’80s with hit adaptations of popular komiks material. We’ve been looking to get back to the territory for a few years until things started falling into place. Now, we’re very excited to roll out the series.”

Viva acquired the two Bob Ong novels early last year and optioned the third a few months ago. All three are in various stages of development and production. The studio is calling the series The Viva Bestsellers.

“ABNKKBSNPLAko” is Bob Ong’s seminal, and now-classic, lightly comic and dramatic, poignantly nostalgic trip down school memory lane. It was first published in 2001 and quickly became a reader favorite. It was made required reading for high school students by the Department of Education last year.

Viva’s movie adaptation stars Jericho Rosales and is directed by award-winning veteran helmer Mark Meily, who is returning to the Pinoy dramedy genre that he explored in “Crying Ladies” and “La Visa Loca”. Production has begun for the film which is planned for release in mid-January.

“Lumayo Ka Nga sa Akin” is Bob Ong’s most recent bestseller, shooting to the top of the bestseller lists instantly upon its release in December 2011. It’s a laugh-out-loud comedy that pokes delirious fun at mainstream Philippine cinema, specifically the kind of commercial fare that studios like Viva have been making.

The big irony is the screen version is set to be megged by box-office director Wenn Deramas with comebacking actress Maricel Soriano in the lead. Production will start after Deramas and Soriano wrap shooting their MMFF entry, the Viva Films-Star Cinem co-production venture “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy.”

“Diary ng Panget” is 2013′s runaway top-selling title. It’s a lighthearted college-set romance comedy that was first published online in Wattpad where it garnered over 12 million reads last year. It was released locally only this year as a four-book series, with each installment topping the local book charts for weeks.

The silver screen translation is being written by award-winning veteran Mel del Rosario (“A Secret Affair”, “Sisterakas”) and set to star Matteo Guidicelli, “PBB Teens” alumnus James Reid and two rising female teen stars. Production is set to start in November for a February release in cinemas.

Viva has also acquired the rights to two other titles — the romance novels “Talk Back And You’re Dead” and “Para Sa Mga Hopeless Romantic.”

Bob Ong bestseller coming soon on film

POSTED ON 10/02/2013 5:13 PM  | UPDATED 10/02/2013 6:44 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Andi Eigenmann was clearly excited at the story conference on her new movie under Viva Films, "Aba Nakakabasa na Pala Ako?!" - because she will be doing the movie with her long-time showbiz crush Jericho Rosales.

The 23-year-old star of the teleserye "Galema, Anak ni Zuma" said she had a schoolgirl crush on Jericho, 34, when she entered showbiz 3 years ago.

“Actually, Jericho and I live in the same neighborhood in Quezon City," she said. "Ilang blocks away lang siya sa house namin ni mommy [Jaclyn Jose]." (He's just a few blocks away from my mommy's house.)

“I remember, wala pa ako sa showbiz nakikita ko na siya sa lugar namin [I wasn't in showbiz yet and I would see him in the neighborhood]. He is so guwapo [handsome] and I know many will agree.

“I just couldn’t believe I am now doing a movie with him. I can’t wait for this project to start and [I can't wait to] shoot my scenes with him.”

Jericho, for his part, said he also admires Andi for her beauty and remarkable talent.

“Kanino pa ba magmamana si Andi kundi sa parents niya na sila [Who else would Andi take after but her parents] Jaclyn Jose and Mark Gil, two of the best actors in Philippine cinema," said the award-winning actor who, together with Andi, used to be the persistent subject of rumors.

“It’s in her genes, kaya huwag na tayong magulat kung bakit siya magaling [it should be no surprise why she's good].

“Neighbors kami niyan [We're neighbors], and it’s good that we are doing this movie. I will get to know her well and see if we have good chemistry together.”

If Echo were not engaged to his fiancée, TV host Kim Jones, would he be attracted to Andi?

"I really don’t know," Echo said with an embarrassed smile. "Siguro naman. Alam n’yo naman ang mga type ko, mga fair-skinned girls." (I guess. You know my type anyway, fair-skinned girls.)

“Pero tapos na tayo diyan. Graduate na tayo sa ganyan. [But we're past that. We've 'graduated.'] I’m engaged to a wonderful woman. And she’s very supportive of what I’m doing in my career.”

"Aba Nakakabasa na Pala Ako?!" is the best-selling autobiographical novel by Bob Ong - now adapted to the big screen, like Ramon Bautista’s "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?" whose movie version swept the box-office.

Jericho plays the role of Roberto, the narrator of his own life story. Andi is Roberto's “special someone,” the one that got away. The Mark Meilly film is scheduled for early 2014. - Rappler.com

MANILA – Actor Jericho Rosales is bracing for a very busy but exciting 2014 both in his personal life, as well as his showbiz career.

Apart from his upcoming wedding to fiancee Kim Jones, Rosales is also set to star in a upcoming TV drama and a new movie based on a bestselling book.

Rosales reported that he is having a good time on the set of the new series, "The Legal Wife," where he will be paired with Maja Salvador and Angel Locsin.

“Masaya. Intense 'yung plot pero sa set namin, masaya kami. Kalog si Maja sobra,” he said In an interview with ABS-CBN News.

Rosales said he is excited to work on another series after being absent from TV soaps for over a year. His last teleserye was the primetime drama "Dahil sa Pag-ibig," which was shown in 2012.

Set to air next early year, the three Kapamilya stars have begun taping for the series last October.

Asked about the story, the actor said: “It focuses on marital relationships. Love story siya pero medyo malalim, medyo intense. It’s a great subject matter. Kami ni Angel ang mag-partner.”

Aside from this series, Rosales also reported that he had just finished his latest movie "Aba Nakakabasa na Pala Ako," based on the book by Bob Ong and directed by Mark Meily.

Rosales said this will be his first project with Viva Films after he inked a three-picture contract with the movie outfit again last September.

“It’s a reunion film with Viva kasama si Andi (Eigenmann), Vandolph, Meg Imperial. It’s a fun '80s film, throwback. Sabi nila January [ipapalabas],” he said.

Anyway going back to ABNKKBSNPLAko?!
