Why Eddie Garcia Has No Intrigues Or Controversies
By WALDEN SADIRI M. BELEN
MANILA, Philippines – For the multi-awarded, 83-year old actor Eddie Garcia, keeping his showbiz career intrigue and rumor free for decades was simple – he never “slept around” nor was he in a romantic relationship with any actress even during his heydays.
“Wala akong pinakialaman na artista,” he said during his solo press conference recently held at the Alex III, QC.
He also shunned the idea that his “clean image” in showbiz was because he just knew how to keep secrets. His philosophy is actually something young actors and actresses could learn from, especially those who are always in the headlines of entertainment news for the wrong reasons.
Eddie Garcia’s way of thinking is actually in line with an old adage for success in business which is “not dipping one’s ink in the company ink.” Thus, a successful acting career based on hard work and merits.
“Kung meron naman siguro mabubulgar ‘di ba? Kung meron man, pag may apoy, may usok, pag may usok may apoy. Eh walang usok, walang apoy,” he stressed.
Eddie’s image is not the only thing clean about him. His lifestyle, too, especially his health, is something he values. When asked how he can still work on teleseryes at his age, he said that “pinaglihi ako sa sanggol.”
“Kung wala akong shooting, I exercise, sleep and eat a proper diet. Hindi kasi ako mahilig sa meat. Usually fish and vegetables lang,” revealed Eddie.
Making sure too that he lives a stress-free life is simple – “Ang mga ginagawa ko lang kasi puro ka-anghelan lang,” quipped Eddie.
Here, There And Everywhere
For the first time in his acting career, Eddie Garcia is doing a soap on ABS-CBN. He joins the cast of “Juan dela Cruz” as the charming grandfather of Coco Martin. Recall that he has appeared in some episodes of the sitcom of the late Dolphy and Charo Santos’ “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”
According to Eddie, he was offered to do a soap opera on October of 2012 but couldn’t because of his work in GMA-7’s series “Aso ni San Roque.” When the show ended, another offer from ABS-CBN came and since he was free of any commitments, he signed-up with the Kapamilya Network.
As of press time, Eddie has been taping for four days for “Juan dela Cruz” but just once a week. Production insiders of “Juan dela Cruz” said that soon, Eddie would be taping every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And the actor said that he’d work on whatever their schedules would be for him even if it’s a daily taping.
“Napakagaan ng mga kasama ko ngayon sa soap na ito or ‘Juan dela Cruz.’ Very professional at maalaga sila,” he related.
How does he feel that he’ll be working with Coco Martin?
“I’m very excited to work with an actor with a lot of following. It’s really a great honor... Coco will go a long way, magtatagal siya sa industriya dahil napakahusay na actor at marunong makitungo sa mga fans,” shared Eddie.
Of his future with the Kapamilya Network, Biboy Arboleda, the AdProm Head of Dreamscape Business Unit of ABS-CBN, said that, “Definitely Tito Eddie will be with the Kapamilya Network ng mahaba-mahabang panahon.”
