MANILA -- Willie Revillame has admitted that the viewership of his noontime program aired on TV5 "fell below expectations," as the controversial host gears up for the show's last month on air and his planned retirement.

The 52-year-old TV host shared the ratings disappointment in a feature on Revillame's Wil Tower Mall published Wednesday on the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Revillame spoke about "Wowowillie," which is aired in the same timeslot as ABS-CBN's "It's Showtime" and TAPE's "Eat Bulaga."

Referring to the hosts of the 34-year-old program aired on GMA-7, Revillame said, "No one can beat the rapport of Tito (Sotto), Vic (Sotto) and Joey (de Leon)."

"No matter how good your show is, if the signal is not strong, people won't watch you," the former ABS-CBN star added.

Whereas both "Eat Bulaga" and "It's Showtime" have consistently placed in the Top 20 programs nationwide, according to multinational market research group Kantar Media, "Wowowillie" has repeatedly lagged behind its rival shows by as much as 10 percentage points in national TV ratings.

The latest TV ratings data of Kantar Media released on Wednesday, for instance, shows that "Eat Bulaga" and "It's Showtime" garnered nationwide ratings of 16.3% and 13.7%, respectively, on September 9, while "Wowowillie" only registered 2.9% on the same day.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, representing 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

Show's end, retirement

"Wowowillie," which has undergone numerous revamps since its 2010 debut as "Willing Willie," is set to air its last episode on October 12, Revillame said.

He first announced the game show's end in May, saying he has opted not to renew his contract with the Manny Pangilinan-owned network.

"My life was about TV hosting and entertainment. When I talked to Sen. [Manuel] Villar (Revillame's business partner), my perspective changed. You have to be stable," said the TV host, who has four children from four past relationships.

"I thought of the future — not just for my family. I want to share my success with the less fortunate. All these (points to a table) will turn to dust. As long as I live, I want to do something that will make people happy. Life is about giving and forgiving. The world doesn't have to see," Revillame said.

sparring partner ni Jose was hardly felt at all.

Malaking kita ang mababawas sa kabanng Eat Bulaga, just in case.

I like the segment on Eat Bulaga called "You're My Foreignay".  It would be nice also if IT"S SHOWTIME will have a version of that also.

Open Letter to Eat Bulaga from a Lesbian Mom, blasts Tito Sotto’s ‘closet’ advice

By Patricia Gomez On May 28, 2015

Tito Sotto

In Eat Bulaga’s “Problem Solving” segment last May 23, a gay man asked for advice on how he should deal with discrimination, particularly the bullying done to his kids because they have a gay dad. The gay dad said he wanted to spare his kids from the traumatic experience.

Eat Bulaga host Jose Manalo first said, “That won’t go away. That happens among kids.”

Manalo then continued, “The solution starts with you. Can you — without changing your personality; you’re still gay, that’s what you want to be, after all, and you have your kids — can you manage to not look that way? But you’d still be gay.”

For his part, Eat Bulaga pioneer Senator Tito Sotto added, “In other words, get back in the closet!”

It was Sotto’s comment that disturbed Cha Roque — a lesbian mother of an 11-year-old daughter.

Roque posted her open letter to Eat Bulaga on her Facebook page and we are reposting it below:

////

An Open Letter to Eat Bulaga from a Lesbian Mom

Dear Eat Bulaga,

I am Cha, a single lesbian mom to an eleven year old daughter. I’ve seen the video of your segment (Dabarkads na beki, may asawa at tatlong anak) and I was appalled at how you handled the situation: how you suggested that this guy should go back to the closet so his kids won’t be discriminated is like saying that homosexuality is a sin. You made it appear like homosexuality is a disease and that he should keep it from his kids so as not to “infect” them with it. I feel sad for the guy for trusting you with what he is going through only to be treated that way.

It was an immature and uneducated move. Eat Bulaga is an institution, you have millions of followers spanning the whole Philippines. Needless to say, the personalities in your show are influential. You even have a Senator blatantly telling this guy to go back to the closet. Don’t you have gay or lesbian colleagues or staff in your show? What if the participant was a lesbian mom? Would you ask her to go back to the closet as well? Would you say the same to Aiza Seguerra if she was in the situation?

I am a lesbian mom and I chose not to hide in the closet, because I love my kid. I don’t think she deserves to be lied to and lying to her about who I am is the biggest betrayal. You don’t hide secrets from the people you love – more so your identity. It is shows like yours and opinions like those that was expressed in your show that encourages the bullying of LGBT people and their families. It is unfair that my child got bullied because of who I am but the way I raised her equipped with with the strength to face the world bravely. It is unfair that people (like you) will judge her not for who she is, not for how she excels in school, not for her craft but for who her mom is. This is why I chose to come out of the closet and fight for our rights.

We (LGBT people) do not want to hide. We want to be accepted, and acceptance is different from being tolerated. It is not okay that you are only okay with us if we keep quiet. It is not okay that you coexist with us just as long as we don’t complain about how we are treated.

You are not in the position to tell this guy “bumalik sa closet” or “bakit kasi nag-asa-asawa” or threaten to hurt him (jokingly). You are promoting a culture of hate. You are telling the world that corrective beating up is okay to make a gay guy become manly. You are telling the world that the only key to be accepted is to hide who you truly are.

We have the right to our choices. We know who we are and you don’t have the right to tell us to be otherwise.

Judging from all the things you said here, I say I better make my child stay away from your show. I feel more secure with my kid hanging out with my gay and lesbian friends. I am more secure that she will get valuable life lessons from them and not learn rubbish. This incident just proved once again how homosexuality is far more clean than Eat Bulaga and its hosts’ opinions will ever be.
