“Gravity.” Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

When Sandra Bullock's character Dr. Stone said that itsmost likely the silence that she loves about being in space, its "oh you didn't" moment. Because we all know how silence really enveloped her as the movie went on.
This is a great movie in many aspects. Alfonso Cuaron found the team that can help him the most in bringing out to the world his genius cinema talents and flair. (David Heyman, producer of Harry Potter films and Emmanuel Lubezki in cinematography, whom he created with the movie Children of Men, which is equally great.) Every shot is shot to perfection even if with extensive use of special effects, those effects do not overshadow rather helped tell the story by creating such tangible atmosphere of vastness, silence, emptyness and dread. Easily the best film of 2013.
