She's been waiting for it, I know her personally. She's currently guesting on LUV U but she really is an amazing overall talent.

Tippy dos Santos on the right path towards making her dreams come true

Tippy Dos Santos has come a long way since her first fifteen minutes of fame in 2009.

Back then, the stunning 14-year-old Trumpets talent made a guest appearance in the now-defunct ABS-CBN morning show, Ruffa and Ai, and impressed both hosts with her powerful rendition of “Journey To The Past” – one of her favorite songs from the animated film and musical, Anastasia.

Fast forward to 2013, when the Star Magic talent validated her acting mettle when she bagged the New Movie Actress of the Year award (which she shared with Kapuso actress Kim Komatsu) during the recently-concluded 29th PMPC Star Awards for Movies.

Tippy won the Star for her role in the musical-comedy flick I Doo Bi Doo Bi Doo which featured a formidable cast of singer-actors such as Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla, comedienne and character actress Eugene Domingo, and teen hearthrob Sam Concepcion.

What does the award mean to Tippy?

The articulate charmer says, “Personally for me, it's just… like I said on stage, sabi ko, ‘etong award na ‘to parang sinasabi niya sa akin na nasa right path ako… na parang, it's telling me na go lang, act ka lang… gawin mo lang yung ginagawa mo, kasi parang incentive rin siya for me to do better."

She also hopes that the win won’t just be a one-time thing as she doesn’t believe in resting on her laurels. She muses, "Sana hopefully one day makaabot ako sa Best Movie Actress. These are just dreams but it's pushing me to work harder!"

TACKLING COMEDY. True to her word, the pretty mestiza coed from UP Diliman has just jumped in on her next project, Raketeros, a comedy flick directed by Randy Santiago.

When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with Tippy during the entertainment website’s 6th anniversary at Aracama restobar at The Fort last March 14, Tippy had just arrived from Batangas, where she already started shooting some crucial scenes.

Being the seasoned theater actress that she is, Tippy doesn’t seem to be fazed by the “off-the-cuff” dialogues and spontaneous witticisms that her colleagues encourage her to imbibe.

She explains, “Ibang-iba po siya, kasi this is full-blown comedy so parang minsan working script lang siya, pero pagdating mo sa set, 'O, ‘eto ang gagawin mo, ‘eto sasabihin mo… o, sige dagdag mo ‘eto para nakakatawa.’”

BONDING. Tippy expounds that being on a set with seasoned comedians like Joey Marquez, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, Ogie Alcasid, Dennis Padilla, Andrew E., and Long Mejia does her a lot of good.

She adds, "It's teaching me spontaneity na parang kahit may given lines na talaga, kailangan minsan, you have to go outside of the box and think of ano ba yung magwu-work better for the role."

“Dito, kailangan free lang… huwag ka masyadong uptight about your role. Mas okay din na nagme-make ka ng mistakes para nako-correct kung ano yung gustong attack mo doon."

It's good that she also seems to have instantly bonded with fellow actress Eula Caballero from TV5, as evinced by Tippy’s Instagram posts of their photos together.

"Okay na kami, sila Eula Caballero, Karen Reyes, yung mga ka-age ko..." Tippy narrates.

She also feels very blessed to have been given the opportunity to act opposite Joey Marquez and get to know him better.

“Nagiging close na kami ng daddy ko doon [in the movie], si Tito Joey Marquez.

“Kasi like the other day we shot a big scene tapos nasa stage lang kaming dalawa, tapos napag-usapan na namin kung anu-ano… tungkol sa media, Illuminati, Lady Gaga, yung mga negative effects ng mga kanta nila, mga ganoon, pumunta na kami sa level na yun!" she huffs excitedly.

ADVICE FROM GARY. Tippy keeps a firm head on her shoulders and young as she is, really appreciates advice from those who entered the industry before her. She recalls the best advice she's gotten so far.

“With the last movie, I Doo Bi Doo Bi Doo, I remember si Tito Gary… binigyan niya ako ng book, parang picture book of his whole career, from start to until now, tapos nag-write siya ng note na medyo mahaba yun," Tippy reminisces.

Tippy adds that this touching occasion took place on a special day when everyone in the cast and crew gave gifts to each other.

She shares a little bit of what Mr. Pure Energy wrote to her.

She fondly recalls, "Sinabi niya sa akin, 'You are one of the people I think the business needs, just keep pushing, when times get hard, think of the Lord, think of your passion, think of yourself as an important person in the business' … parang ganoon niya sinabi."

What the message means to Tippy, is that, “Every person in the business is important— mapa-cameraman, mapa-artista… so parang when you lose that drive, kailangan isipin mo rin na may purpose yan kaya ka nandyan, kasi binigay sa iyo ng Panginoon na may passion ka at may talent, kaya kailangan andito ka."

Tippy remarks that if she were to use I Doo Bi Doo Bi Doo in a sentence, it would be something like this: "I doo bi doo bi doo believe I can succeed! Sobrang generic ano? I doo bi doo bi doo believe kikita naman ang Raketeros," she jokes.

Now in the thick of her studies, Tippy will have to wait until April for her summer to start. She plans to go to Boracay sometime May.

So, if she were to be stuck on an island, who would she want to be with?

She laughs heartily, "Oh, I can bring five people? Ang dami, sige… siyempre baka mabasa to ng family ko! Ang mom ko, ang dad ko, ang sister ko, my best friend Sammy, and my cousin Ate Joy, tapos magdadala kami ng maraming pagkain since wala namang taong makakakita sa amin… kakain lang kami at magbi-bikini!"
