Actress says not keen on love life

MANILA -- Sheryl Cruz is thrilled to start work on the upcoming ABS-CBN series "Galema," which marks her return to TV drama after over a year.

"Not only is it a nice fantaserye, but it also fully packed with very, very good actors and actresses," the 39-year-old actress said, referring to the Wenn Deramas-directed series.

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a pictorial for the fantasy-drama series held Wednesday, Cruz said she is happy to be able to work across various TV networks.

"Syempre maligaya ako kasi nakaikot ako sa lahat ng networks, at sinusubaybayan ako kahit paano ng aking supporters, kaya maraming, maraming salamat," she said.

Starring Andi Eigenmann in the title role, "Galema: Anak ni Zuma" is slated to premiere on ABS-CBN in September. It also stars Matteo Guidicelli, Sunshine Cruz and Meg Imperial.

As she gears up for a packed schedule as a regular cast member in a series, Cruz mentioned her daughter as an inspiration for her career comeback.

"Ang inspirasyon ko ngayon, first of all, 'yung daughter ko, si Ashley," said Cruz, who divorced her husband, Norman Bustos, in 2008 after 12 years of marriage.

On 'love life'

Despite their separation, Cruz said she and Bustos have remained good friends, and even praised him for his continued presence in their daughter's life.

"Para sa akin, kahit hindi nag-work out 'yung marriage namin, as long as he is really a good dad to his daughter, that is all that counts," she said.

"Pag nakikita ko na mahal niya 'yung anak ko, at talagang patuloy 'yung pagsuporta niya whatever it is that she needs rights now, he still does it monthly, na hindi niya naman nakakalimutan, 'yun ang hinahangan ko sa kanya," she said.

Asked if she is open to entering a relationship anew, Cruz said it might only yield "complications" in her life, citing her career as an actress and as head of Paper for Now, a socio-civic handicraft business.

"Everyone would wish for one (relationship), but I really don't want to complicate my life right now. I would like to concentrate on myself.

"Pag usapang puso na 'yung inyong pinagdadaanan, hindi pwedeng hindi mo seseryosohin eh, especially if it affects not only yourself, but your kid and your entire family, at lahat ng nagmamahal sa'yo," she said.

After rift, Sheryl Cruz reunited with Sunshine

Sheryl Cruz reunites with cousin Sunshine in 'Galema'

MANILA -- Actress-singer Sheryl Cruz gets reunited with her erstwhile estranged cousin Sunshine Cruz in the upcoming fantasy series "Galema" and they are enjoying every minute of it.

"It's a bonding experience for the two of us kasi nga it's been awhile since we last saw each other and last talked. Everything is good between the two of us. Wala na 'yung mga problema sa past. We really put it in the past, and we are really moving forward," said Sheryl, who will playing Sunshine's sister in the series with Andi Eigenmann in the title role.

It has been more then a decade since Sunshine and their other cousin, singer Geneva Cruz, allegedly lambasted Sheryl for not paying her last respects to her father Ricky Belmonte in 2001.

"I am actually very excited how she flourished as an actress and despite sa pinagdadaanan niya ngayon in her personal life, hanga ako sa pinsan ko kasi she's a good mother to three daughters at best interest ng children 'yun ang kanyang iniisip," Sheryl added.

"l have outmost respect sa kanya at sa craft niya and the way she handles her personal life, although it's a struggle kasi ang dami-daming lumalabas. We just give her our full support bilang family members.

"At the same time, as an actor, siyempre 'yung inhibitions mo kapag nasa-set ka kasi hindi naman maganda 'yung naasiwa ka kapag may lumalabas ganyang istorya na taken out of context by the press or basta just to write about. 'Yung sa akin lang it's part of life and it's just unfortunate kasi it's magnified a million times more than the regular person kasi nga nasa show business kami," Sheryl added.

She also pointed out that working for the series is a good venue for Cruz to ease her pain.

"it's nice that's she talks about it kasi it's one way of actually releasing 'yung sakit na nararamdaman," Sheryl said. "Right now, na-appreciate ko whenever we are set on the set -- mahilig kaming makinig ng music, nagkakantahan kami sa loob ng tent at tawanan lang kami ng tawanan sa mga na-experience namin.

"Kumbaga we want to uplift each other's self-esteem kasi hindi madali na isa ka lang tapos tinututukan mo tatlong anak na babae pa. Ako isa nga lang so hangang hanga sa pinsan ko tatlo-talo ang kanya," Sheryl said.

Like Sunshine, Sheryl is also separated from the father of her daugher, Ashley.
