Although she may not yet be a familiar face in showbiz, newbie Liza Soberano will soon make her big screen debut playing the role of Hope, who catches the eye of Ivan, played by Daniel Padilla in Star Cinema's upcoming teen romance movie Must Be Love. The aspiring actress, who was first discovered joining beauty pageants at school, had auditioned for the role of Kathryn Bernardo's cousin and was surprised to make the cut.
“Nagulat ako kasi hindi ko naman ini-expect, ang bilis kasi ng pangyayari na tipong movie agad? Masaya naman ako na nakuha ko yun. Siyempre excited ako pero may halong nervousness kasi malaking artista si Kathryn, sobrang tagal na niya sa industry. Sobrang happy ako and blessed and thankful,” she shared during the Star Magic Circle batch 19 launch held last March 7 inside the ABS-CBN compound.
Liza said it was a surreal experience to get to work with teen heartthrobs Kathryn and Daniel. “My first impression of Kathryn was sweet, parang ang sweet niya. Whenever I see them—sila ni Daniel—ang sweet nila off-cam. Their friendship is really sweet. Tapos si Daniel he's really makulit. Masaya naman sa set, they're very nice and matulungin talaga sila. They helped me through my scenes pag yung medyo heavy na scenes. They help me by motivating me and telling me what I need, kung ano dapat isipin ko tapos pag merong mga nakakahiyang scene like nahihiya akong gawin, si Daniel tinutulungan niya ako, sasabihin niya, 'Huwag mo ng isipin yun, just do it.' ganun siya, 'Dapat solid' guma-ganun siya (laughs),” she said.
Liza admitted she couldn't help but be star struck by her co-stars. “It was great, fantastic, awesome. Basta it was mixed emotions po ako nun. Na-star struck ako lalo na kay Kathryn because idol ko talaga siya. If you noticed, siya ata yung unang finollow ko sa Twitter. Dahil sa kanya kaya ako na-inspire na maging artista,” she added.
The Fil-Am beauty said she was not worried by how fans of Kathniel would react to her role in the movie. “In person they treat me right. Nakakatanggap ako ng hate on Twitter but hindi naman hate na as in grabe na na tipong papatayin na kita, parang naiinis lang sila but I guess that's a good sign kasi ibig sabihin effective ako,” she said.
Liza said she understands where the fans are coming from. “I don't answer them. Hindi ko na pinapansin pero minsan niri-retweet ko tapos minsan ni-replyan ko ng thank you. Sabi niya kasi nakakainis daw kasi akos, so ganyan, ganyan. So sabi ko, 'thank you po.' (laughs). Kasi good or bad publicity is still publicity. Pero siyempre gusto ko ng good publicity,” she said.
The aspiring actress who one day also dreams of becoming a high-fashion model also shared her message for fans of Kathniel who will be watching Must Be Love when it starts showing nationwide on March 13, Wednesday. “I hope their opinion of me changes after they've seen the movie. I hope they end up liking me also. For the Kathniel fans, wala pong personalan ito, work lang po siya and sana masuportahan niyo rin ako and sana huwag na kayo magalit sa akin. Malaki respeto ko kay Kathryn,” she said.
As part of Star Magic Circle batch 19 along with Khalil Ramos, Julia Barretto, Jane Oineza, and Kit Thompson, Liza admitted she feels lucky to be part of such a talented group. “Nagulat nga ako kasi ang bilis! Hindi ko ini-expect na ganito kabilis and masaya ako kasi yung mga kasama ko nakasama ko na dati so hindi mahirap na maging comfortable sa isa't isa,” she admitted.
