"Prince of Pop" Erik Santos is one of the most gifted young male singers of his generation. Erik continues to conquer greater heights in the singing arena. This award-winning performer has his hands full of projects here and abroad.
Erik is in high spirits these days. He recently released his new album titled "Your Love" (Special Limited Edition). The repackaged album contains chart-topping songs like "May Minamahal," "Muntik na Kitang Minahal," "Maging Sino Ka Man," and the carrier single "Here I Am" which was originally sung by Air Supply.

Erik is also one of the most sought-after entertainers abroad. He will fly to the United States for a series of shows billed "Erik Santos US Tour, Live in Concert!" in May. Joining him are Sheryn Regis, John Prats, Pooh, Denise Laurel plus a surprise guest.

By: Gary Sta. Ana
And take note, inisnab ni Ms. Viva Diabetika ang mga tabloid editor and writer. Kaya, mangilan-ngilan at ga-patak na press releases lang ang naglabasan and that’s it folks!
Tama ba kami, Bambita Poodle-lita?
Now, the moment of harsh reality has come.
Sa kahirapan ngayon dito sa Pinas, who can afford to buy such an expensive album ni Claire dela Fuente? Oo nga’t magaling siyang singer, no doubt about that.
Pero ang P295.00 ay pambili na ng isang kilong bigas, isang kilong karneng baboy at mga rekado, just enough to feed a full meal for an average Filipino family.

Erik Santos goes back to school APRYLLE LIABRES (Contributor)
8 April 2008
IT’S HARD to think of Erik Santos as being anything other than a singer. He is, after all, the country’s top balladeer. His prize-winning rendition of ‘This Is The Moment’ in the first season of ABS-CBN’s ‘Star in a Million’ is still considered one of the best performances in singing contests ever-and in a country with a lot of talented singers, that’s saying a lot.
But with all the accolades he has reaped, there is one more thing still missing from Erik’s life: a college degree. Erik was a dentistry student at Centro Escolar University (CEU) when showbiz beckoned. Then last year, his youngest sibling finally graduated, leaving Erik as the only adult member of his family without a college degree.
So he decided to go back to school to get one. He re-enrolled at CEU, but this time, took up BS Psychology. “My professor told me that Dentistry is very demanding, and suggested that with the schedule that I have, I may have problems handling the workload,” says Erik. “So I decided to shift to Psychology.”
Erik is a regular student. Unlike showbiz colleagues Sarah Geronimo and Rachelle Ann Go who are enrolled in the online distant learning programme offered by the University of the Philippines, Erik opted for a regular programme where he actually attends classroom sessions. Last semester, he had classes in Experimental Psychology, Psychological Testing and Introduction to Guidance and Counseling. This summer, he plans to enrol in two subjects, then take up a full load in the next two semesters so he can graduate in March 2009.
UP’s distance learning programme would have been a better fit for his schedule since it involves few classroom sessions, but Erik says that in the long run, returning to CEU proved to be the better decision because the undergraduate units that he took when he was still a Dentistry major were automatically credited.
“If I went to another school like UP, I would have to repeat most of my basic subjects since they wouldn’t be credited,” explains Erik.

Tell & Tell
Well, itong si Richard Poon ay may dugong Taiwanese at Cantonese, pero born and raised in the Philippines, kaya very fluent sa Tagalog at Ingles.
One more thing, he is a glib talker and sport talker kung kaya’t puwedeng-puwede itong maging singing TV host sa kategorya ni Martin Nievera.

Their favorite summer places DIRECTLINE By Boy Abunda Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Sometimes, I get tired with the mob that flock to Boracay during Holy Week and long weekends. But this is the same crowd that I love to watch. In Boracay, everyone is malling, swimming, boating, eating, smiling, parasailing, kayaking; some are searchers (for love?) while some are willing searches. Boracay defines fun and white sand and divine sunset.
Hands down, Boracay is definitely the top choice of stars for a summer get away. I love Boracay. Four or five times a year, I am in Boracay for some reason. Is it the sun, the beach, the water, the people, the food? I don’t know. It could be everything and more. As I am writing this, I am in Boracay taking a few days off from my hectic schedule in Manila. No plans, no itineraries, I just packed my things and escaped to Boracay. To me Boracay is close to perfect. One side of the island is cosmo, the other side, provincial. It is also complete with world class amenities — hotels and the like. Boracay is a mecca — for tired bodies and wounded souls, for those who just want to laze around, for people watching — for everything. Once you experience Boracay, you are seduced for life. Where do stars go during summer? Read on.
*snipped*
Erik Santos — Boracay is still the best for me. I like going there because of its nightlife and fine sand.
*snipped*
There you go. It is summer and it is time to pack your bags and travel to your favorite summer destination be it Boracay, Palawan, Paris, Maldives or anywhere else in the world.

Erik, Mariel in Here I Am MTV
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Erik Santos has Mariel Rodriguez as guest star in his new music video Here I Am. The song, originally sung by Air Supply, is the carrier single of Erik's repackaged album titled Erik Santos Your Love(Special Limited Edition) under Star Records.
Shooting the music video was a breeze for everyone involved. Althought it was Erik and Mariel's first time to star together in an MTV, the two are long time friends because both are Backroom artists. They had a great time shooting the music video at Lighthouse Marina in Subic. In between shooting breaks, Erik and Mariel would tease and fondly call each other Rhoderick and Erlinda, their real names respectively.
The MTV of Here I Am is directed by TV, commercial and concert director GB Sampedro. A fellow Backroom artist, GB collaborates with Erik for the second time around in this MTV. Erik will promote his album at SM North on April 20; SM Muntinlupa at April 26; and SM Dasmariñas on April 27. As BPI Remittance endorser, Erik will have a show on April 19 at SM Sta. Rosa.
Then, Erik flies to the US for a series of shows titled Erik Santos US Tour, Live in Concert in May. Joining him are Sheryn Regis, John Prats, and Denise Laurel.
Erik's US schedule is as follows: May 2 at Balboa Theatre in San Diego, California; May 3, South San Fransisco; May 4, ASU West Phoenix Arizona; May 9 Gateway Theatre in Illinois; May 16 West High Auditorium in Anchorage Alaska; May 17, Washington Performing Arts in Olympia, Washington(West Coast).
For details, call 435-1108 or 435-1120 or e-mail at backroomtalents@pldtdsl.net.

Sabi ni P-chi, Erik will always be special to her kahit may iba na siyang mahal.

Uy, kaya ka lumapit kasi para mas kita mo sina Peachy at Duncan?
"Uy, hindi ah? Wala na 'yun, naka-move on na ako. Concerned ako kasi maski paano, may pinagsamahan kami. Pero wala na 'yung love, firendship na lang," seryosong paliwanag sa amin ni Erik, huh!
Anyway, ang sabi ni Erik sa amin ay may bagong girl na sa buhay niya pero nakiusap siyang huwag muna naming isulat dahil baka raw ma-preempt. Nangako sa amin ang alaga ni Boy Abunda na kami ang unang makakaalam oras na sinagot na siya ng nasabing girl.
In fairness, boto kami if ever sa new girl na ito dahil may breeding, may pinag-aralan, maganda at matalino. Hanggang doon na lang muna.

The day Toni brought Paul homeThe day Toni brought Paul home By Maridol Rañoa-Bismark Friday, April 18, 2008
One way to find out if your boyfriend is Mr. Right is to bring him to your home and see how well he adjusts.
Toni Gonzaga did just that. But she’s not saying whether she brought boyfriend Paul Soriano to her native Taytay to put him to a test or not.
The US-born and bred direk Paul never questioned Toni’s motives. He dutifully packed his bags and for the first time, went with her to the place she calls home.
It was Maundy Thursday, and, like all towns steeped in religious tradition, Taytay was abuzz with processions, Pasyon reading, and the annual Salubong on Easter Sunday.
Lest you get any ideas, Paul didn’t sleep over in the Gonzaga home. Toni's parents will never hear of it. He just took a dip in the family swimming pool and accompanied Toni in observing the religious rites.
Did her boyfriend feel uneasy at the sight of hectares and hectares of ricefields stretching as far as the eyes could see? Or did he take to the simple country life the way a duck would take to water?
The good news is yes, Toni reports, her boyfriend passed the test with flying colors.
“Paul was able to adjust to Pinoy culture in our place even if he was raised in the US. I appreciate this a lot,” she says.
Too bad he still chooses to remain invisible before the scrutinizing eyes of public. He and Toni, for instance, deliberately settled for GB Sampedro again to direct her repeat concert, Catch Me Again, Toni Gonzaga at the Aliw Theater on May 2, 8 p.m.
Besides, direk GB proved he can very well pull off a successful show last Feb. 9, also at Aliw, which was so jampacked, its organizers, Manio Events, MJM Production and Nitram Entertainment, had to turn latecomers away. They also ran out of tickets to sell.
One successful show deserves another. Hence the repeat.
This time around, Toni will have a yet-to-be-revealed surprise guest. And no, sorry to disappointment his fans. But Piolo Pascual is not the guy.
Toni ticks off names of guests she is allowed to reveal: Sam Milby, Allan K, Gerald Anderson and Vice Ganda.
Success is not making the star of the show rest on her laurels. Toni has gone back to swimming to build up more lung power for those vocal and physical calisthenics she is doing on stage. Besides, Toni needs all the strength she can muster for all those climbing, jumping and dance routines she did in the first show and will do again in the repeat.
Meanwhile, Toni is not about to forget her voice. She sought out champion singers’ advice on how to keep that precious voice of hers in mint condition.
Rachelle Ann Go recommended vocalization pieces which Toni downloaded from the former’s iPod into her own. Rachelle also urged Toni to avoid talking too much upon waking up so as not to strain her voice.
Sarah Geronimo strongly advised Evian. Erik Santos, on the other hand, told Toni inhaling from a vaporizer would help her breathing a lot.
“See, I got all the champions’ paraphernalia with me,” Toni crows.
The host of the newly-launched PBB Teen Edition Plus (with Luis Manzano) on ABS-CBN is so glad her schedule has eased up a bit.
“Luis provides the male perspective to the show,” relates Toni. “With him there, we can alternate in hosting the show. There’s division of labor.”
Toni herself has a mouthful to say about PBB Teens.
“The housemates treat the show as one big summer vacation. And since they’re still young, the teens are less self-conscious. They’re not afraid to be themselves,” she observes.
Like them, Toni is not afraid to show her fans who she really is.
This was why she got into a little argument with Sam Milby, her leading man in Star Cinema’s recent blockbuster, My Big Love. Toni didn’t have second thoughts about telling the press who interviewed her that she and Sam are just friends.
Sam, at first, thought this would mar their chances of being paired off in another movie again. Toni had to explain to him that his fears are unfounded. The public, she went on, will still watch them even if they are not romantically involved. It’s the story, not personalities that matter.
Luckily, Sam saw the light. And My Big Love’s success proved Toni was right all along.
“This also explains why other male-and-female teamups click, even though there’s nothing romantic between them,” says Toni.
She cites the case of Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon on radio.
Toni saw them guest on Boy Abunda’s Homeboy and explain why their long-standing teamup works to this day.
“There’s no sexual tension at all,” Toni relates. You just see two friends enjoying each other’s company on air.
The set-up also applies to Toni and Sam. It also explains why fans love to see them together on screen.
Also part of Toni’s transparency is admitting that she needs to wear a corrective dental device called Invisalign on her upper and lower teeth.
“I was born with buck teeth,” she points to a closeup view of her face at her February concert.
Invisalign, which Toni’s dentist says is the future of braces, will correct her condition. It’s much less visible than braces, and more importantly, just as effective. It just needs some adjusting to at first. Toni’s gums swelled for awhile the first time she wore it and she can’t sing and host for sometime.
But the swelling subsided and Toni soon got the hang of it.
Besides, it’s better than having a root canal to remove your problem tooth. It saves you repeated trips to the dentist — a big plus for someone as tied up as Toni is.
No wonder it’s the in thing in Hollywod these days. Tom Cruise no less wears something like Toni’s Invisalign, she reports. It’s great for improving your looks without being drastic about it.
So expect a prettier Toni when she brings her show to the provinces and shoots Amnesia, her comeback comedy with Vhong Navarro after D‘Anothers.
Direk Paul, for sure, will also be delighted to the bone.

Erik and Mariel in music video
Erik Santos has Mariel Rodriguez as guest star in his new music video “Here I Am.” The song, which was originally sung by Air Supply, is the carrier single of Erik’s repackaged album titled Erik Santos Your Love (Special Limited Edition) released under Star Records.
Shooting the music video was a breeze for everyone involved. Although it was Erik’s and Mariel’s first time to star together in an MTV, the two are long-time friends because both of them are Backroom artists.
They had a great time while shooting the music video at Lighthouse Marina in Subic. In-between their shooting breaks, Erik and Mariel would tease and fondly call each other Rhoderick and Erlinda, their real names, respectively.
The music video of “Here I Am” is directed by television, commercial and concert director GB Sampedro. A fellow Backroom artist, GB collaborates with Erik for the second time around in this MTV.

They never stop learning DIRECTLINE By Boy Abunda Monday, April 21, 2008
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. — Aristotle
It was my dream to get a college diploma that Tatay and Nanay wanted to hang on the wall by our dining table. Tatay passed away before I could tell him that I did not finish college. I also didn’t tell him that I was in love with another boy. I couldn’t imagine how Tatay would have reacted. But I am sure his love was bigger than his traditional macho Waray affectation. But Tatay would have been proud that I learned big time from the university of hard knocks.
After my father’s death, I found myself doing odd jobs — assistant stage manager, props man, salesman, assistant cook, receptionist, stage manager — all sorts of work to keep my head above water. I even went to the extent of selling shampoos. Nanay meanwhile was teaching Grade 1 pupils at the Campesao Elementary School in Borongan, Eastern Samar. I asked Nanay to give me two years to fix my life. By then, I had the insatiable appetite to court success and disaster. Anything risqué was enchanting. It still is. My beloved mother conceded but not without reservations. Nanay didn’t know where I lived for two years crawling, roaming, dancing, cavorting, singing, praying without complaint in the dark, pungent, exciting, dangerous, alleys of the big city.
When I met Tita Conching Sunico, grand dame of Manila’s society, things got better. She taught me more than any university could have offered. I was a terrible student in social graces and etiquette but I talked to anyone like a relative and that was good enough for Tita Conching. And like Tita Conching, I love to laugh at myself at anything or nothing. I remember being asked by Tita Conching to deliver a package for a prominent man. I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know that he was a rich guy who spoke Spanish just like my Tita Conching and who owned big companies. He was also good to me because I spoke to him and treated him like a long lost cousin. I was never afraid of anyone. With Tita Conching I met people of consequence. Tita Conching allowed me to “peek” into her world. She would tell me the society’s who’s who. She would also show me her treasured photographs and would bring me to her travels. She “schooled” me as she was like a gigantic book of knowledge. I will forever be grateful to her.
Friends have been egging me to attend short courses. I am open to the idea of enrolling maybe in a short course on entrepreneurship, political science or philosophy. When I interviewed Gigi Alfonso on my show Private Conversations, I learned that she heads the University of the Philippines Open University where some movie stars are enrolled. Gigi said that it is a campus less education — you don’t have to be present inside a classroom — but can study on-line. Once in a while you meet with your teachers and fellow students. Perhaps the most famous celebrity enrolled at the Open University is Sharon Cuneta.
Movie stars have recently put premium on education. Some celebrities are going back to school or have gone back to school: Vilma Santos who took up a short course at the University of the Philippines, Rica Peralejo is currently enrolled at the Ateneo, Sarah Geronimo at UP Open University and Erik Santos at Centro Escolar University. Ina Feleo, Bianca Gonzales, Moy Ortiz finished at the Ateneo, Dominic Ochoa finished at the UST, Tin Tin Bersola graduated from the UP, Mariel Rodriguez, Drew Arellano and Iya Villania finished at De la Salle, Luis Manzano graduated from De La Salle Benilde, and Ai-Ai delas Alas finished Mascom at FEU, among others.
In Hollywood, Natalie Portman went back to school at Harvard University. Brook Shields while at the peak of her career went to Princeton, while Jodi Foster went to Yale.
Here is a list of some of our favorite movie stars and where they were schooled, culled from wnbc.com: James Gandolfini from Rutgers University; Dean Cain, Princeton University; Bill Cosby, Temple University; Kristin Davis, Rutgers University; Calista Flockheart, Rutgers University; Mira Sorvino, Harvard University; Oprah Winfrey, Tennessee University; Bruce Lee, University of Washington; Whoopi Goldberg, New York University; David Duchovny, Princeton University, with graduate degree from Yale University; Tommy Lee Jones, Harvard University; Meryll Streep, Yale University and Vassar College; Denzel Washington, Fordham University; Renee Zellwegger, University of Texas; Ashley Judd, University of Kentucky; Lisa Kudrow, Vassar College; John Lithgow, Harvard University; and Claire Danes, Yale University.
There are also some who dropped out of school like Reese Witherspoon, a Stanford University drop out, Clint Eastwood dropped out from the Los Angeles College, Brad Pitt from the University of Missouri, George Clooney a Northern Kentucky University drop out, Madonna from the University of Michigan, Angelina Jolie is a New York University drop out, Gywneth Paltrow University of California Santa Barbara drop out.
Right now, I want to go back to school. When, how, where, I don’t know. But I know I’ll be in school soon.
