"Speaking" deaf students star in "Snow White & Seven Dwarfs"
Crispina Martinez-Belen
The Philippine Institute for the Deaf is proud to present another significant accomplishment of "making the deaf speak" through their annual musical production, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" featuring the school’s talented "speaking" deaf students.
The musical presentation, an adaptation of Disney’s animated movie, will be staged on March 26 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the RCBC Plaza along Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City.
Also to performing "to help indigent deaf children learn to speak" are some of the country’s top performing artists: Ai Ai de las Alas, Erik Santos, Sam Concepcion and Dennis Trillo.
Denis Limcuando, one of PID’s outstanding students, will be "Snow White." Ms. Cynthia Romero Mamon, PID chairman of the board and one of the country’s multiawarded ballroom dance champions, will do a special number.
Every year, PID’s Miracle Theater invites the public to its much-awaited musical stage productions, which always leaves the audience amazed with the deaf children’s talents and progress in learning to speak, sing, dance and act. Their annual presentations aim to raise funds for their Scholarship Fund, for them to be able to reach out to more indigent special kids for the next schoolyear.
PID is a project of the Sergia G. Esguerra Memorial Foundation, Inc.

"I want to be happy for her.
As for him, he's taking his time for love.
In the first place kasi napaghandaan ko na rin in a way na sooner or later magkakaroon talaga siya ng ibang karelasyon. Kasi di ba? Kailangan niya 'yun sa buhay niya."
Wala raw siyang ina-eye na ligawan ngayon at mas excited siya sa kanyang US tour starting May 2. Three weeks siyang mawawala sa Pilipinas.

Apl.D.Ap and Gary Valenciano are honored in the 2008 MYX Music Awards Jocelyn Dimaculangan Thursday, March 27, 2008 06:25 PM
Filipino artists clad in their best chic rock attire graced the 2008 MYX Music Awards that aims to celebrate the most popular singers and bands in the Philippine music industry. The third edition of this annual music event took place last night, March 26, at the Meralco Theater, Ortigas Center.
Some of the highlights of the evening include the performance of international hip hop artist Apl.D.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas and the tribute to Magna Awardee Gary Valenciano, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary in showbiz.
Apl.D.Ap (whose real name is Allan Pineda) also received a Special Citation for his outstanding contribution to the music industry and to his homeland, the Philippines. His compositions "The Apl Song" from the album Elephunk and "Bebot" from the album Monkey Business are hailed as songs that exemplify his pride in his Filipino heritage. He was also cited "for his efforts to pave the way for Filipino artists and Filipino-American artists through his label, Jeepney Records."
In his acceptance speech, Apl addressed his kababayans and said, "First of all, I want to thank God. Maraming salamat sa MYX Awards. I want to thank all the fans for supporting me. I want to thank my group, the Black Eyed Peas, for believing in me, for letting me make a Filipino song in Tagalog to represent my culture. [applause] I will continue to represent Filipinos all over the world, y'all! They ask me, ‘What makes you Filipino?' I say, I will be Filipino today, I will be Filipino tomorrow, and I will be Filipino in the future. Maraming salamat!"
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was able to talk with Apl before the start of the program. He reiterated his plans to help Filipino and Filipino-American artists through his own music label. "It's called Jeepney Records, which is my label. That's why I'm here also ‘coz I would like to collaborate with other Filipino artists and look for other talents."
When asked to name artists whom he would like to collaborate with in the future, he replied, "I like Bamboo. I like Parokya ni Edgar. I like Gloc-9. I like Slapshock and Gary V...and a lot more."
Aside from participating in the MYX Music Awards, Apl hopes to make a guest appearance on ABS-CBN's noontime show Wowowee and perform in local clubs. This native of Angeles, Pampanga, will be here in the country until April 5. Apl also revealed that he is doing a solo album that is scheduled to be released this year.
"One of my songs is called ‘Island'... I wrote it when I was here during Christmas. It's about the beauty of the country and the hardship of the country. I'd like to represent that all over the world," says Apl with a smile. During the awards night, Apl performed "Island, " prompting some members of the audience to stand up and groove to his upbeat music.
MYX Magna Awardee Gary Valenciano was overwhelmed by the production number that paid tribute to him and his unforgettable songs such as "Hataw Na" and "Sana Maulit Muli." The medley of songs was performed by some of the best names in the music industry, including Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Vina Morales, Ebe Dancel, Jett Pangan, and Janno Gibbs. Mr. Pure Energy himself was very surprised to see his own sons, Paolo and Gabriel, take part in the production number since they managed to keep it a secret from him.
The big winner during the awards night was Sarah Geronimo, who was named as Favorite Artist, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ. Her song "Ikaw" was also chosen as Song of the Year. The pop singer is currently in the United States for her concert series, which is why she sent a taped message that was aired during the program.
Among the presenters that night were Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 housemates Riza Santos, Will Devaughn, Jon Avila, Gaby dela Merced, and Ruben Gonzaga. Other artists tapped to be presenters include Nancy Castiglione and her fiancé Doug Kramer, Valerie Concepcion, Katya Santos, Yeng Constantino, Marc Abaya of Kjwan, and Dingdong Dantes. Aside from presenting an award, the sexy group Kitty Girls performed a lively dance number that excited all the hot-blooded males in the audience that night.
Directed by Rowell Santiago, the third edition of this annual music awards was hosted by MYX VJs Luis Manzano, Iya Villania, Nikki Gil, Drei, Mica, and Igi. To determine the winners of the different categories, sixty percent of the scores came from the viewers of MYX while the remaining forty percent came from the votes of the artists themselves.

TONI GETS TIPS FROM SINGING CHAMPS
TONI Gonzaga’s recent “Catch Me” concert at Aliw Theatre was a big hit and people who failed to get in then are requesting for its repeat so it’ll be re-staged on May 2, 8 p.m., as “Catch Me Again”, also at Aliw in the CCP Complex.
“I have so much to be thankful for as this is turning out to be a good year for me,” she says. “Kumita ang first movie ko, ‘My Big Love’, with Sam Milby, and I’ll be doing a new one, ‘Amnesia Girl’, with Vhong Navarro, based on Adam Sandler’s ’50 First Dates’. Then hit nga itong concert ko and nasama ako sa ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’. Now, I’m hosting PBB Teens Edition Plus and we’re glad as it’s rating very high.”
Toni is lisping as we talk to her because of her new braces. “I have to put it on for six months for my crooked teeth. But I remove when I act or do hosting.”
How does she prepare for her concert? “I’ve asked tips from the champions. Erik Santos told me to use a vaporizer for my voice. Rachelle Ann Go lent me the vocalizations in her Ipod. Jed Madela told me not to talk so much in the morning to preserve my voice. Sarah Geronimo said I should drink only Evian water kasi madulas. I followed them all and it helped as I was able to sustain my voice until the end of my concert. But I don’t drink Evian anymore, kasi mahal.”
Was her BF Direk Paul Soriano pissed when it was rumored he bought so many tickets to her concert then just gave them away to his relatives to make sure the venue will be filled up? “No. Hindi naman kasi totoo. Maiinis lang siya kung totoo ‘yun kasi dapat, secret na lang yun. E, hindi naman, totoo.”
Her guests in “Catch Me Again” are Sam Milby, Gerald Anderson, Allan K, and Vice Ganda, directed by GB Sampedro, produced by Manio Events and Nitram Entertainment in cooperation with Shapes Wear, Redbox, Di Boss LCD, Manila Bulletin, Love Radio, and Star Records. For tickets ranging from P4,000 to P1, 500, call SM Ticketnet at 911-5555 or Nitram at 719-5726.

Sarah is big winner at MYX Awards SOUNDS FAMILIAR By Baby A. Gil Friday, March 28, 2008
Viva singing star Sarah Geronimo emerged as the top winner in this year’s MYX Music Awards. She copped Favorite Song for the Medwin Marfil composition, Ikaw, which is one of the cuts in her all original Filipino album Taking Flight. She was also named Favorite Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist of the Year and finally, the MYX Celebrity VJ of the Year.
Unfortunately though Sarah was not around to enjoy those glorious moments as she could not be at the Meralco Theater last March 26 when the MYX Awards ceremonies were held. She is currently on a tour of Canada and the US with fellow singing champions Rachelle Ann Go, Christian Bautista and Mark Bautista. However, thanks to new technology, the enterprising guys in MYX USA were able to shoot Sarah with her thank you speech.
Incidentally, there is big news coming up regarding Sarah’s next recording. Reports have it that she will be staying behind in Los Angeles after the champions tour to record a duet with a cute member of one of the biggest boy bands in pop music history. The song will be included in her new album which has a July release date.
Now, since she is also on tour with Sarah, Rachelle Ann was also not able to accept her awards in person. These are for Best Mellow Video for her song Alam ng Ating Mga Puso from the album Obsession and for Pag-ibig Na Kaya, her duet with ex boyfriend Christian Bautista as Best Collaboration.
This is Rachelle Ann’s second win in this Mellow category. She got the same two years ago for her recording of From The Start from the CD of the same title. Ironically though, despite these mellow awards, Rachelle Ann is set to turn rocker soon with the release of a new live-recorded album of rock classics next month.
Gary Valenciano, Mr. Energy himself became the recipient of the MYX Magna Award. He comes on the heels of truly illustrious predecessors, namely Megastar Sharon Cuneta and the greatest trio ever to hit Pinoy pop music, the Apo Hiking Society.
And there is no question that Gary V, has indeed made his mark in Philippine music, not just because of the hits Sana Maulit Muli and Kailangan Kita or longevity in the business, he started out in the early ’80s but as an example of what a esteemed, well-liked and disciplined performer should be.
Here now is the complete list of winners at the MYX Music Awards 2008.

Geronimo, ABS-CBN recording stars sweep MYX Music Awards
By REYMA BUAN DEVEZA
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Young singer Sarah Geronimo once again proved that she still reigns in the hearts of music enthusiasts as she bagged four awards at the 3rd MYX Music Awards held at Meralco Theater last Wednesday, March 26.
That evening was indeed one of Geronimo’s brightest nights as she was named Favorite Artist, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ, while her song "Ikaw" won the Favorite Song award.
The awards night was a huge success with a large number of stars in attendance. The venue was also packed with fans and supporters of both music artists and celebrity presenters.
The audience enjoyed the night as bands and solo performers wowed the crowd with their astounding renditions of their original and most popular hits.
But before the awards were given to the winners, the night started off with cocktails and a red carpet moment for artists and members of entertainment media, many of whom were dressed in rock star style.
The night and the crowd stayed alive with special performances by Sandwich, Julianne, controversial couple singer-composer Ogie Alcasid and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, sexy singing group The Kitty Girls and Nancy Jane.
The presenters such as Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate and endorser Jon Avila, actress Valerie Concepcion, actor Dingdong Dantes and ‘Racing Goddess’ Gaby de la Merced left the audience going wild.
But one of the biggest highlights of the evening was when international artist, Filipinos’ gem Allan Pineda more popularly known as Apl De Ap of the popular hip hop group Black Eyed Peas, presented one of the categories for the music awards. Sarah Geronimo wins 4 top Myx awards
By Pocholo Concepcion Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 00:19:00 03/30/2008
GARY V receives the Myx Magna Award as Pops Fernandez applauds.
MANILA, Philippines - The crisp, infectious drum beats beats to apl.de.ap’s “Bebot” opened the 2008 Myx Music Awards held Wednesday night at the Meralco Theater. The wake-upper amply compensated for the long delay and gaps that hamper shows being “taped as live.”
There were embarrassing, laughable moments. Receiving a special Favorite Ringtone award for “Catch Me I’m Falling,” Toni Gonzaga quipped: “Narinig ko nga ang mga friends ko e, ’yun ang ring tone ng phones nila ... ”
Guest performer Nancy Castiliogne, introduced as a dancing queen of sorts, was caught having difficulty keeping in step due to her high-heeled shoes while doing a lip sync of a forgettable tune.
There were sarcastic and provocative remarks as well. Myx segment host Jett Pangan, asked by Katya Santos if he had really requested for her to be his co-presenter, replied: “Totoo. What are we in power for?”
Another presenter, NU 107 female DJ Dylan, shared the stage with new Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda, and wisecracked: “We’re both virgins in this show ... Why don’t we devirginize each other?”
Riding a skateboard
The band Sandwich showed its unpredictable sense of fun when it played a full-volume version of a new song, “Procrastination,” with vocalist Raymund Marasigan riding a skateboard. Marasigan would later appear with former Eraserhead band mate Marcus Adoro to present the Favorite Indie Artist award to Up Dharma Down.
Though owned by ABS-CBN, the Myx production team crossed lines by inviting GMA 7 artists Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Jaya, Regine Velasquez and Kyla in the tribute performance for Gary Valenciano. Myx boss Andrei Alvarez handed out a Magna Award to Valenciano for 25 years of outstanding contributions to contemporary Filipino music.
A special award was also given to apl.de.ap for promoting Pinoy culture with his own compositions in the Black Eyed Peas albums. Apl took the occasion to perform a new song, “Island,” from his own forthcoming solo CD.
Moments before presenting the Favorite Music Video award to Sponge Cola, Valenciano was heard saying “I can feel it in my bones.” He meant that he and apl would be working together soon. At that point, however, it was learned that apl wanted to hook up with Parokya ni Edgar.
A quick look at the big winner would reveal the obvious: Sarah Geronimo, who was in San Francisco, has an army of local fans that delivered the text votes for her to snag four awards.
Never mind content; it’s a popularity contest, and the girl’s quite a performer.

MYX Awards halts network war
By YUGEL LOSORATA
It took MYX Awards to put an end albeit temporarily to the raging network war between ABS-CBN and GMA-7.
Kapuso’s biggest stars Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Jaya, and Janno Gibbs generously paid homage to the night’s Magna awardee – Gary Valenciano, an icon in the music industry and a certified Kapamilya.
MYX insider Kathy Solis summed up what transpired last Wednesday at the Meralco Theater in Ortigas: "We’re sending this message that MYX promotes balance when it comes to such matter. We believe that we’re an independent channel in the name of artistry and entertainment."
The climax featured the voice of the Asia’s songbird singing the first lines of "Sana’y Maulit Muli," before she appeared on stage.

Myx Awards 2008: Predictably Kapamilya
By Neil Ray Ramos
It started late, far from its supposed 8 p.m. opening. And to think we were told to come as early as 5 p.m.; nonetheless, we were glad that once it began, it got right down to business.
No doubt, director Rowell Santiago did a good job making the 2008 Myx Music Awards, held a few days ago at the Meralco Theater, a fun and entertaining affair.
ABS-CBN pulled all stops to ensure its biggest stars graced the show and with special numbers to boot. Yet, the awards, now in its third year, offered no surprises. The same artists/stars that won major awards last year were the same that won many of this year’s major awards.
Sarah Geronimo and Erik Santos again bagged trophies (including one each for best female and male artist of the year, respectively) as Spongecola, winner in last year’s favorite group category, won the same award this year. Christian Bautista and Rachelle Anne Go, also winners in the past won an award for Best Collaboration.
While the awards were predictable, its organizers visibly tried to veer away from what was expected.
Chicosci, the underdog group who many thought Myx viewers don’t like at all surprisingly won over Bamboo and Callalily. The latter, like 6cyclemind, went home empty handed despite their much-vaunted popularity.
Another unexpected win was that of Sam Concepcion who edged out older (and some say better) artists like Julianne and Bloomfields. Billy Joe Crawford besting local boy Gloc 9, Seven Shots of Wisdom and Andrew E. caused a lot of raised eyebrows as well.
Myx’s choices seemed to have reflected the channel’s audience demographics. There seemed to have a noticeable attempt to spread out the citations more evenly and it left many with the same “it was alright but far from satisfying” aftertaste similar to the Pacquiao vs. Marquez match earlier this month.
Notable sidelights include Nancy Castiglione doing a cool, little techno number that served as an introduction to her supposed reinvention as “dance princess.” She did look capable singing while doing her sexy moves, but it remains to be seen if people would like her new image. The reception she got that night was lukewarm at best.
The Kitty Girls tried to raise temperatures with an overdose of muscle-controlled moves. They nearly succeeded but not quite.
Many were surprised at Vina Morales’ change of costume. She came in a sexy backless number that was as revealing on the back as well on the front but she did a sudden costume change to a conservative number for her song-and-dance act.
Game show babe Valerie Concepcion, race driver Gaby de la Merced and Men’s Magazine fixture Bianca King were there as well.
The girls in the crowd got their share of Velveta with Will de Vaughn, Jay-R, and Jon Avila proving very much a delight for the camera wielding, shrieking girl and gay fans at the red carpet reception.
Highlights included the rousing intro courtesy of a revolving cast of singers that included Jed Madela, McCoy Fundales (formerly of Orange and Lemons now known as Kenyo), Aia de Leon (of Imago) and Julianne singing “duets” with their “virtual partners.”
Black Eyed Pea Apl. de Ap did a fabulous number (from his soon to be released solo album) with beauteous Fil-American DJ Mia. It was one of the more memorable moments in the awards night.
Ebe Dancel (Sugarfree), Jett Pangan (The Dawn), Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Kyla, Janno Gibbs, Vina Morales, Jaya and brothers Paolo and Gabriel Valenciano did a number for Gary Valenciano, the recipient of the Magna Award.

TONI Gonzaga’s recent "Catch Me" concert at Aliw Theater was a big hit and people who failed to get in then are requesting for its repeat so it’ll be re-staged on May 2, 8 p.m., as "Catch Me Again," also at Aliw in the CCP Complex.
"I have so much to be thankful for as this is turning out to be a good year for me," she says. "Kumita ang first movie ko, ‘My Big Love,’ with Sam Milby, and I’ll be doing a new one, ‘Amnesia Girl,’ with Vhong Navarro, based on Adam Sandler’s ’50 First Dates.’ Then hit nga itong concert ko and nasama ko sa ‘Maging Sino Ka Man.’ Now, I’m hosting ‘PBB Teens Edition Plus’ and we’re glad as it’s rating very high."
Toni is lisping as we talk to her because of her new braces. "I have to put it on for six months for my crooked teeth. But I remove it when I act or do hosting."
How does she prepare for her concert? "I’ve asked tips from the champions. But I don’t drink Evian anymore, kasi mahal."
Was her boyfriend, director Paul Soriano, pissed when it was rumored he brought so many tickets to her concert then just gave them away to his relatives to make sure the venue was filled up? "No. Hindi naman kasi totoo. Maiinis lang siya kung totoo yun kasi dapat, secret na lang ‘yun. E, hindi naman, totoo."
Her guests in "Catch Me Again" are Sam Milby, Gerald Anderson, Allan K, and Vice Ganda. It is directed by GB Sampedro, produced by Manio Events and Nitram Entertainment in cooperation with Shapes Wear, Redbox, Di Boss LCD, Manila Bulletin, Love Radio, and Star Records. For tickets, call SM Ticketnet at 911-5555 or Nitram at 719-5726.

FIRST READ ON PEP: Rufa Mae Quinto's family wants her to end up with Bobby Lopez Ambet Nabus Wednesday, April 2, 2008 03:16 PM
RUFA MAE'S SPECIAL FRIEND. Sa katunayan, after ng nasabing presscon, lilipad din agad si Rufa Mae papuntang Hong Kong to meet up with her current special friend, Mexican-American Bobby Lopez.
