No one is disputing the fact that the Philippines is in poverty. That's given!  But I don't get your point na wala un sa statistics about income. Poverty is about income and the number of people with a particular income is statistics. Yet, this is not my point when I reacted to John's statement ... Read my response to Gorio.

We have to admit the fact that PBB is a competition wrapped in a reality show and anybody who joins either wants to be famous or win, or perhaps wants to learn from the experience or challenges posed by BB (according to Gorio). This is the format of the program, thus contestants are screened and not all can make it  even the the most rebellious than Beauty or the most disabled than Priscilla or smarter than Rona. Choosing the HM is beyond our control; they are already presented to us and we choose whom we think is deserving because WE WANT THEM TO BE FAMOUS, WE WANT THEM TO WIN, WE WANT THEM TO LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE. Now that's very far off from the notion that we want them out from poverty! Otherwise, there's no need for PBB. Unless PBB becomes a show that aims to eradicate poverty!

I am not talking about the prize. I am reacting to how John perceives the remaining HMs ... "too much poverty in the Philippines ... better for them to win." When deducing this, it is tantamount to saying that these HMs deserve to win than him and Kevin because they are in poverty. Now, isn't that condescending? 

I totally agree with you that the HMs "should think of challenges that BB poses on them." With the many seasons on PBB, they must have thought of that already and they are doing just that. However, it is not the point here. The statement made by John on the Buzz is!

Of course point nila yon! And it was arrogant. To tell you what, your equation is not always true. One may have the fame but poor. Others may have the money but powerless. And that equation does not apply to the HMs.  If it does not sink into your brain, I don't know what else.

If you don't believe in statistics, I presume you are not among the counted Filipinos who believe they are poor, average, or rich. You could just be a silent ghost. And statistics do not necessarily come from government. But if you hope for a miracle, then you are a statistic.

My work deals with statistics aside from human behavior but government is not my only source. There are other sources ... private agencies, international organizations,etc. that are highly reliable. Such data are triangulated to conclude that they are not manipulated. Statistics are part  of our daily lives, and it is up to us how we interpret them.
