Kuh Ledesma at Boston's John Hancock Hall For Immediate Release Contact: Grethel Bolandrina (508) 476-0009 Gretheline@aol.com The Philippines' Concert-Pop Diva live in Boston on June 23rd Boston, MA (May 20, 2007) -- The one and only Kuh Ledesma will appear live in concert at John Hancock Hall on Saturday, June 23rd at 6:00pm. Tickets are $60.00, $50.00, $40.00 with limited number of VIP ($100.00) and are available through Filipino Talent, LLC, and various leaders in New England Filipino-American community organizations as well as Sure Pinoy Store in Quincy. Tickets will also be available at the John Hancock Hall on the day of the event, subject to availability. At this point in her career, Kuh Ledesma has to be counted as an icon in the Filipino music history. Her music career spans 25 years of performances which include more than 300 concerts, numerous awards in the Philippine music scene, and 18 albums in the local recording industry. She was the first Filipino singer to be the recipient of the Salem Music Awards in March 1989. In 1997 she released an international debut album entitled PRECIOUS, a collaboration of the best American and Filipino songwriters, arrangers and musicians. Kuh Ledesma's "PAANO KITA MAPASASALAMATAN: A Tribute to George Canseco" won the award for BEST CULTURAL AND ARTS PROGRAM at the 15th Annual KBP Golden Dove Awards held last 25 October 2006 at the Star Theater. She is at the forefront of another musical renaissance via her CD, K for kundiman. " It is far from being a straightforward collection of kundiman tunes. The album best exemplifies where she is now, which is that of reminding Filipinos how rich the culture is. The idea of mixing obra maestras like ‘Bulaklak’ and ‘Mutya ng Pasig’ among others with jazz, RnB, techno and other styles intrigued the artist in her," explains Sipin of Filipino Talent, LLC who flew to Manila and made arrangements necessary for Kuh's Boston Concert. By Special Arrangement: Kuh Ledesma Live in Boston features her daughter Isabella as special guest. Kuh sings the classics SOUNDS FAMILIAR By Baby A. Gil Friday, June 1, 2007
I believe that singers, particularly the stars who have been blessed with so much, should record the classic songs, even if only once in their lives. They owe it to their fans, who should be made aware of our great musical heritage. They owe it to their country to keep the music of the past alive. If nobody takes the trouble to record the old songs, they will surely die. Then nobody in the future will know that treasures like those ever existed. Now pop diva Kuh Ledesma took care of paying off this debt early in her career. I remember playing her Unforgettable LP a lot, many years ago but the one that still leaves me awe-struck is her Ako ay Pilipino, an album of contemporary works that she recorded during the late ’70s. It not only remains her best but is also a brilliant showcase for the best Filipino songwriters, musicians and producers of the time. She had no need to do another but I am glad that Kuh has taken the trouble to take the patriotic route one more time with K. It is most commendable that instead of going out to bat for new songs she might turn into hits Kuh harked back to the past with really old kundimans and even reworked two of her personal favorites in K. In case you are wondering, the simple letter K is the title of the album. But K in this case does not only mean Kuh. It also stands for klasiko or to be more specific the klasikong awitin that the album contains. She explains why in her dedication on the album cover. Para sa bayan kong mahal, then she goes a bit further, at para rin sa ‘yo Carmen, ang aking mahal na ina. Here then in K is Kuh, the loving daughter. She dedicates her interpretations of the classics to her country and to her mother, maybe because the songs hold a lot of memories or are simply Carmen’s personal favorites. Included in K and boasting of ear-popping arrangements by Bob Aves are Mutya ng Pasig by Nicanor Abelardo and Deogracias Rosario; Pakiusap by Francisco Santiago and Jose Corazon de Jesus; Saan Ka Man Naroroon by Restie Umali and Levi Celerio; Nasaan Ka Irog? also by Abelardo with Corazon de Jesus; Ugoy ng Duyan by Lucio San Pedro and Celerio; Bayan Ko by Constancio de Guzman and Corazon de Jesus; Dahil sa ‘Yo by Mike Velarde Jr. and Dominador Santiago; and Lahat ng Araw, another composition by Velarde and Santiago which has come to be known also by the title Silayan. The songs were well-chosen and are indeed among the most beautiful and enduring Filipino compositions ever written. Kuh’s singing is more expressive than before and I like the way she took the trouble to update the songs. Perhaps taking Nasaan Ka Irog out of the classical vocal mode might finally get kids interested in the song. Hey, because of Kuh, they can now sing the kundiman even without taking voice lessons. So given all these wonderful qualities of K, I do not see any reason why Kuh decided to include two George Canseco songs she has already done with good results before. Siya na Ba?, a moving ballad but admittedly a minor Canseco hit and a tri-languaged Bulaklak, with Tagalog, French and English lyrics. The latter was one of her big sellers but it is actually a French song given Tagalog lyrics by Canseco. It is always nice to have a Canseco song in any album and these two might end up among the classics someday but they are certainly not klasikong awiting Pilipino as of this moment. http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Entertainment&p=49&type=2&sec=31&aid=2007053146

Kuh Ledesma in another US concert tour
Now on another concert tour in the US is our very own pop diva, Ms. Kuh Ledesma. She has been concertizing in North America many times over but it seems out compatriots there don’t tire of her all. After launching her much talked–about album "K: Para sa Bayan Kong Mahal," the pop diva packed her bags for this new series of shows in the US, still ongoing as of this writing. Kuh’s US-Canadian Tour 2007, which features her back-to-back with Pops Fernandez, swept through 25 cities over the months of April and May. Kuh is currently preparing for her first show in Boston with her daughter Isabella as special guest. The show, billed as "Special Arrangement Kuh Live in Boston" will be held today, June 23, at the John Hancock Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. After the Boston show, Kuh will be doing two more shows in the US – one at the Cannon Center in Memphis, Tennessee on Aug. 3 and a special performance with MYMP on Aug. 4 at The Grove in Anaheim, California – before heading home to the Philippines, where she is expected to resume her co-hosting duties on "ASAP ‘07" and promote her album, whose carrier single, "Siya na Ba," Kuh’s cover of a Basil Valdez hit, has been getting excellent airplay. Kuh says she gets a different high from performing before fellow Pinoys abroad. But it wasn’t always that way. "In the beginning of my career when I was on tour, I would get painfully lonely even when I was with friends. No matter how successful the shows were, when I am alone in my hotel room, it gets so lonely," says Kuh. "But now, I enjoy the trips. Meeting new people became a joy and there are the quiet times and moments I look forward to. I have developed a love for reading and praying." But most of all, she welcomes the opportunity to reach out to fellow Pinoys through these shows. That’s why Kuh travels constantly, sometimes doing, as she has on this current tour shows in more than 20 cities. In certain cities, she even does up to two shows in a day. "Performing to our kababayans has become a passion to give them the best of what we have back home – our music and our talents. I am able to bring new concepts that I try out in Manila first and then bring them abroad. So far the Filipinos abroad are enjoying it immensely and that is a high for me," she says. Meanwhile, Isabella is fast making a name for herself in showbiz. She is preparing for her debut album and will soon sign a movie contract under a major film outfit. For more details on Kuh’s shows abroad, her latest projects, recordings and other schedules, visit her official website, www.kuhledesma.net.

HOME BODY Fusion in the key of Kuh
By Bayani San Diego Jr. Inquirer Last updated 10:00pm (Mla time) 09/06/2007 MANILA, Philippines—The home of singer Kuh Ledesma in Pasay City is a museum of sorts. Daughter Isabella, who dabbles in painting, describes the house as a haven for artists. Pieces by Isabella—and other painters—are strewn all over the place. Former movie billboard painter Miong Babatuan and son Yeye have painted murals in the home. “They make replicas of [19th-century Filipino folk artist] Damian Domingo’s paintings of rural scenes, as well as portraits of Filipinos in baro’t saya,” Kuh relates. Since Mang Miong and Yeye are no longer busy doing movie billboards, Kuh has taken them in. “They drop by when they don’t have work,” she says. “We try to find something for them to do. Sometimes I call my friends and ask if they’d like some good paintings.” “This is an artists’ community,” Isabella adds. “Carpenters, painters, furniture makers and gardeners get to do their work here.” Kuh describes the interiors as, “Fusion, but Filipino at heart.” She has gathered antique pieces from all over the country, plus a few from neighboring Asian countries. (There’s a door knocker from Bali.) Antique pieces from the Visayas adorn different corners of the home—for instance, intricately carved wooden cabinets from a church in Loboc, Bohol, and from a school in Cebu. Kuh has placed church benches, an altar table and a bishop’s chair (from Cebu), in quiet nooks. The best-selling recording artist, who just released “K,” a CD of modernized kundiman ditties, loves to jazz up some of her antique collection. One example is a fragment of a church altar that she turned into a mirror frame. A worthy centerpiece is the 24-seater narra dining table, made according to her specifications, along with the mahogany billiard table. From Venice, California, where she was based in the 1990s, Kuh has brought home more antique and art pieces, brass lamps and vintage cameras. “I was a regular in the flea markets there,” she says. “Now, the items from those stores are 10 times more expensive. That’s why we take extra care of these pieces.” A baby grand piano was shipped from the US. Says Isabella, “This is my piano. It has gone through a lot. It’s actually quite funky. It’s not bulok (decrepit). It has character.” Kuh reveals that she trained her eye for antique-shopping through the years. “If you’re interested in it, you can learn quickly and spot a good buy easily.” She has picked up lots of tips from books, too, and from friends like writer-director Floy Quintos. “I also learned a lot from an Australian boyfriend, the son of an ambassador,” Kuh recalls. “His mom also taught me a lot about ceramics.” She shares a tip: “Before buying antique jars, check the base, the inside, as well as the kind of ceramic used. You have to be careful because there are a lot of good imitations out there.” http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entertainment/entertainment/view_article.php?article_id=87117

The artist in Kuh Ledesma
She is truly a tough act to follow. For more than 25 years, she has defined trends and set the music industry on fire with her talent and artistry.
Kuh Ledesma brings that to bear on every project she puts her name on, especially her latest album "K: Para Sa Bayan Kong Mahal." Released early this year under the Bravo Records label, it is a concept album done in true Kuh Ledesma fashion. The result of a masterful collaboration with musical genius Bob Aves, K contains immortal classics like "Mutya ng Pasig," "Bayan Ko," "Bulaklak," "Saan Ka Man Naroroon," "Nasaan Ka Irog," "Dahil Sa ‘Yo," "Pakiusap," "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan,""Lahat ng Araw," and the carrier single "Siya Na Ba" composed by George Canseco and originally sung by Basil Valdez. Using new arrangements that he started working on when Kuh first came up with the idea for the album four years ago, Aves gave these classics a fresh new twist while remaining true to the spirit and tilent of the original songs. With the single logging significant airplay on the country’s radio stations, it’s like Kuh never even left! When she returns from her US tour and prepare for the third leg of the tour, Kuh is expected to resume her TV appearances as well as prepare for a show, a treat for her Manila-based fans who haven’t seen her perform live in over a month. "I’d like to be able to do something for them, because while performing for Filipino audiences abroad is satisfying, there’s also something to be said for performing for the people back home too," says Kuh. Speaking of shows, Kuh had a solo show on Sept.8 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in New Jersey. After that, the Pop Diva resumes her series of shows with Pops Fernandez. Their shows will be on Oct.12 at the Expo Center in Kansas City, Oct.13 in Los Angeles, California, Oct.20 in Jacksonville, florida and Oct.21 in Arkansas. Kuh and Pops’ successful US tour continues to draw rave reviews and a huge following. Reports say that the Pop Diva and Concert Queen’s artistry and chemistry on stage is so consistent and the audience really enjoys every production number they perform. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR20070910102552.html

Kasi we have a murderer on the loose,” pahayag ni Kuh. | |
