Gary Valenciano, wala nang atake dahil sa insulin pump!

Nagpapasalamat si Angeli Pangilinan dahil naimbento ang insulin pump. Sa kuwento ni Angeli, mula raw nang gumamit si Gary Valenciano ng insulin pump, hindi na ito inaatake ng kanyang sakit na diabetis.

Dati raw, halos tuwing dalawang buwan kung umatake ang sakit ni Gary. Wala raw itong pinipiling lugar o panahon, dahil kapag nakaligtaan lang ni Gary na mag-injection ng insulin o kumain kaya sa tamang oras, agad itong umaatake.

Noong Nobyembre 2005 lang nadiskubre nina Gary at Angeli. Hindi nga raw ito mura na puwedeng bilhin ng lahat ng taong may sakit na diabetis.

Sa tantiya ni Angeli, umaabot sa P300,00. ang halaga ng insulin pump na maikukumpara mo sa isang pager o maliit na cellphone ang itsura.

Hindi rin daw ito masakit gamitin, na hindi tulad ng injection na maya’t maya ay kailangan mong maramdaman ang talim ng karayom.

Ngayon daw ay nakakatulog na nang mahimbing si Gary. Hindi raw tulad noon na kailangan siyang gisingin maya’t maya para lang turukan ng insulin.

ALL of Gary Valenciano's 22 years in the business turned out blissful. His status as a performer becomes fuller, stronger and brighter, unquestionably acknowledged by many people inside and out of the industry plus a respect from his co-workers.including his peers.

Before 2005 year ended, Gary added color by receiving the First Generations Award from MTV Pilipinas, a lifetime achievement award honoring his efforts in promoting OPM and inspiring the youth with his excellence and professionalism, as well as championing the cause of children through his involvement as UNICEF Ambassador of Goodwill for seven years now.

He was also named Entertainer of the Year by the Aliw Awards, and reaped another Best Concert Act Award for his concert, "Thankful" at the Araneta Coliseum. In recording, he received several multi-platinum awards and his 7th Best Performance by a Male Recording Artists Award from the Aliw Awards.

THREE good and wonderful things are coming in Gary Valenciano's way: a well-deserved platinum award for his album "Pure Heart" under Star Records, a post-Valentine concert and series of tour in various parts of the world.

"I am blessed, truly blessed despite a couple of medical setbacks I suffered last year. I am 41 and as the saying goes, life begins at 40. I don't actually feel old but whenever I play with my two sons and my back aches, that's the only time I feel my age.

I had fears when I joined ASAP. But now, I can't believe I can mix with the young ones.

I communicate with them through my music and dance movements.

Somehow, our thoughts get easily connected. It has been two decades of concertising and doing records and I hope to do so for more decades to come.

I watched the plug of Andy Williams Valentine concert at the Araneta Coliseum and he is great. It would be nice to be like him when I reach 60." Gary wishes.

Gary is currently promoting a new single, the Jim Brickman-written "Destiny". Why this particular cut? "That's the only remaining track we have not pushed.

There's a lot of soul into it," he says. Other musical gems in the "Pure Heart" album includes a reworking of the Smokey Mountain hit "Kailan," "Ikaw Lamang," theme song of "Dubai," "Kailangan Kita," "Because of You," "Anak" and "How Did You Know," all movie themes. Then there's "Lipad ng Pangarap" (The Filipino Channel theme song for the year, the classic "Lift Up Your Hands" and "Gumising Na, Tayo'y Magkaisa." On February 5, the Platinum Record Award will be given to Gary in "ASAP." Produced by Star Records, "Pure Heart" is on its way to being a double platinum. This year, Gary hopes to come out with a concert package a collection of concerts he has done for the past years. It would sum up to one thing: beautiful and inspiring music and warm memories accumulated through the years.

On Feb. 18 and 19, Gary will hold a post Valentine show with Zsa Zsa Padilla and you can expect a sizzling femme fatale in the person of Zsa Zsa who doesn't hide the fact that she underwent enhancement process which would qualify her as one of the sexiest songstress at 40. Called "Faces of Love 2", it will be hold at the NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City.

Gary is slated to tour Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Europe this year. Is he not keen on doing movies? Or probably a teleserye? For the record, Gary has appeared in 11 photoplays, two of which were megged by the late Lino Brocka.

He answered by throwing another question: What do you think would be a good role for me to play? We thought of a young priest who falls in love. He gave us a puzzled look and we knew it wasn't a good idea. Well, let's play around with the Von Trapp family. And Kuh Ledesma as Maria?

GRADUATING na this year from college sa De La Salle University si Paolo Valenciano, eldest son of Gary and Angeli Valenciano. Misty-eyed at parang hindi pa rin siya makapaniwala nang ipakita sa kanya ni Angeli ang graduation photo ng kanilang anak, ayon kay Gary. Solong naninirahan si Paolo sa isang townhouse sa Valle Verde, Pasig. He drives his own car and cooks his own food, ayon kay Gary. Pero balak na raw nitong bumalik sa house nila in Antipolo, perhaps after graduation.

Hindi lang nabanggit ni Gary kung may girlfriend na si Paolo. Ang inamin niya’y still together ang second son niyang si Gabriel at Nikki Gil. Born-Again Christian din ito at nakakasama nila ito sa kanilang church. Parang barkada silang mag-aama ngayon, ani Gary at kasama sa mga paboritong pinag-uusapan nila’y tungkol sa love. Gary doesn’t want to entertain the thought na one day ay lalapit sa kanya sina Paolo at Gabriel at sasabihing nakabuntis sila.

"Definitely, as a father, I’ll get hurt. Mas gusto kong marinig sa kanila ang, "Dad, I’m getting married," he said. Mas strict at protective si Gary sa kanyang bunso and only girl na si Keana. She’s 13 years old pero malaking bulas, ayon kay Gary.

Parati nga raw siyang binibiro ni Keana na gusto na nitong mag-boyfriend. "I always tell her, she can only have a boyfriend when she’s 28 or 30. My daughter naman is very open to me and we always have a dialogue. ’Pag may manliligaw sa kanya, two questions lang ang itatanong ko, "What’s your name?" and "Why?" Hindi lang ako ang protective kay Keana, also her two brothers. Kaya mag-ingat sa aming tatlo ’yung magtatangkang manligaw sa kanya," Gary said smiling.

Meanwhile, excited si Gary sa post-Valentine concert nila ni Zsa Zsa Padilla on Feb. 18 and 19. Billed "Faces of Love 2," sa NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City ito gaganapin with Mon Faustino as musical director and the Powerplay. Mga favorite love songs of yesteryears and today ang kanilang repertoire na for sure, makaka-relate ang audience, ayon kay Gary.

By May, he is leaving for Australia and Canada for a series of shows. May Europe and USA tour din si Gary. May bago siyang music video ("Destiny" from his "Pure Heart" album)) na mapapanood sa MYX. He’s working on a new inspirational album.

FATHER GARY V – At 41 (turning 42 on Aug. 6), Gary Valenciano feels and thinks young. He can still sing and dance like, a teenager? Not really, but more of a guy in his late 20s and early 30s.


But Mr. Pure Energy confesses that when he looks at his three kids he realizes the years are catching up with him.

"Would you believe that Paolo’s already 21 and soon graduating from college (De La Salle U)? His graduation photo’s in my music room. One time I texted him, ‘Ikaw talaga.’ He texted back, ‘What do you mean.’ I said, ‘Ikaw talaga. Ang bilis mong lumaki’."

After Paolo comes Gabriel, 17, romantically linked to model Nikki Gil. The youngest is Katrina, 13, growing up to be a beauty. "Mga kuya niya ang mahigpit. Wala munang manliligaw," Gary laughs.

Father Gary V adds he also realizes he’s 41 when he plays basketball with his two boys. "Pagod na ako sila relaxed na relaxed pa."

• INSULIN PUMP – These days – and in all likelihood for the rest of his life – Gary’s "sporting" an insulin pump, attached to his waist, just below the navel. He started using it last year, calling it, "life changing."

Whenever he’s in need of insulin, the pump automatically injects it to his body. It was attached to him last year in the US – and from then on he didn’t suffer diabetes attacks, which used to scare his wife Angeli Pangilinan and road manager Vina Pareja out of their wits.

The insulin pump is costly, but then the benefit to his health is beyond measure. A much smaller version of the gadget is now available in the US and Gary intends to get it this year. At a higher price, of course.

• ‘PURE HEART’ – Gary V’s latest album, "Pure Heart," under the Star Records banner, has now turned platinum. Which will be given to the singer on Feb. 5 in the ABS-CBN Sunday noontime show "ASAP." He’s promoting the latest single from the album, "Destiny," written by Jim Brickman and featuring Queen of Soul Ella Mae Saison.

After Valentine na, February 18 and 19 to be exact ang concert nina Gary Valenciano and Zsa Zsa Padilla called Faces of Love to be held in NBC Tent. Feeling kasi ni Gary, hindi na nila kailangang makipagsabayan sa napakaraming Valentine show before and on February 14.

Very successful kasi ang unang Faces of Love concert nila last year at malakas ang clamor para magsama uli sila sa concert like what they did nga last year.

A totally new show according to Gary pero maraming na-retain na part ng kanilang Faces of Love 1. Like ‘yung poster na ginamit last year, almost the same. Kahit ang mga costumes and songs na kasama sa repertoire, in a way ay may mga na-retain sabi ni Mr. Pure Energy.

Actually, tama lang talaga na after Valentine na mag-concert sila Gary. Kasi nga talagang ang daming naka-line up na Valentine show at nakakalito na namang manood kasi sabay-sabay. At least nga naman on Feb. 18 and 19, hindi na gaanong ma-traffic at tapos na ang sabay-sabay na show.

Mala-pager pala ang insulin pump na laging nakakabit sa katawan ni Gary Valenciano para gamutin ang kanyang diabetes. Inaalis lang ng singer ang device 'pag nagsa-shower siya. Battery operated (double A) ang device na mula nang ikabit sa kanya last November ay three times palang niyang pinalitan ng battery.

Biniro namin si Gary na dahil sa insulin pump ang mala-boy band niyang looks ngayon. Gumanti ito ng biro na next time namin siyang makita'y, mala-Aaron Carter at hindi lang Nick Carter ang kanyang dating.

Samantala proud na kinumpirma ni Gary Valenciano na si Nikki Gil nga ang babaeng espesyal at nagbibigay kulay sa mundo ng anak niyang si Gabriel ngayon. Seventeen years old lang ang binata, pero suportado ito ni Gary sa lahat ng bagay, including his lovelife.

Tsika pa ni Mr. Pure Energy, "I'm so proud that my sons are enjoying their lives. Nakaalalay lang naman ako to remind them of the repercussions of their actions."

Amazed na amazed daw si Gary na binata na ang mga anak niya. May times pa nga raw na nate-text niya ang mga ito ng expressions of joy and amazement.

"Funny, pero ito siguro 'yung joy ng isang father na nagsasabing parang kailan lang, tapos eto na," dagdag pang tsika nito.

Apparently, sa aming programa sa radyo kung saan in between breaks ay nag-usap kami ng personal stuff ni Gary, biglang nag-flashback sa kanya ang isang childhood memory nang marinig ang flash report.

Gusto pala nitong maging radio reporter dati. Ikinuwento niyang noong bata pa sila, may improvised radio sila na gawa sa lata, at siya ang kunwaring nagbibigay ng report.

Pero siyempre, naiba ang hilig niya, dahil naging isa siyang sikat concert at recording artist. Ang bago niyang album, Pure Heart under Star Records, ay patungo na sa double platinum mark, at may Faces of Love 2 concert pa siya with Zsa Zsa Padilla, Karylle and Paolo V. sa Feb 18 and 19 sa NBC Tent.

#2: Gary Valenciano

We visited Angeli Valenciano at Genesis office and heard the good news that her superstar husband Gary, a diabetic, no longer has to endure injections through the miracle of science.

As of late last year while touring the U.S., Gary had a Diabetologist insert an insulin pump to the left side of his stomach. The pump acts like a reservoir that monitors the sugar level in his blood and administers insulin accordingly. Only six people in the Philippines have an insulin pump and since Gary has had one, he has suffered no major attack. It also spares Gary up to 90 regular injection shots.

According to Angeli, Gary cried the night after the insulin pump was put in place. Gary then, she says, was coming to terms to the fact that he had to rely on a gadget to sustain his health. Angeli had to remind him gently that God has always been faithful and that they should not lose hope in praying for a complete cure.

Gary showed us his insulin pump the day we visited him during the taping of his monthlong stint on MYX as February’s Celebrity VJ. Though we did not tell him, we felt all the more in awe of him whose cup of hope perennially runneth over.

Anyway, Gary just released a new single from his near- DoublePlatinum CD, "Pure Heart." The track is "Destiny," a remake of the Jim Brickman hit song and done in duet this time with Ella Mae Saison. The song comes with a video directed by Topel Lee.

Still one of the most in demand performers, Gary will, for the nth time, be touring Europe, Canada, USA, Australia and Asia. On Feb. 18 and 19, Gary will be staging a concert with Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla dubbed "Faces of Love 2" at the NBC Tent.

"Faces of Love 2" is for the benefit projects of the Shining Light Foundation, an organization committed to support deserving scholars, needy diabetics, ministries and various other charity projects.

Gary recently topped the recent surveys of the Southeast Asian Foundation for Children’s Television as the Most Wholesome Television Personality in the Philippines.

• Don’t be misled by a press release that came out in this section yesterday about dancer-singer Mocha guesting in "Gary’s show." Actually, both Mocha and Gary Valenciano are guest performers in an event slated for tonight in Dagupan City organized by the Private School Athletic Association. Mocha and Gary will entertain athletes from around the country.
