Kapag nagpupunta ako sa aming family doctor ng Chinese General Hospital at may klinika sa Oroquieta ay lagi naming napag-uusapan si Sarah Geronimo na kapitbahay nila.

Ayon sa mga residente dun ay likas na sa actress-singer ang kabaitan kaya di nakapagtataka kung nagtagumpay man ito. Maganda ang kanyang upbringing dahil very close ang kanilang pamilya. Natutuwa naman ang mga residente dun dahil proud sila sa galing umawit ni Sarah na hindi lang matagumpay sa bansa kundi gayundin sa international scene.

Champions conquer Vancouver

VANCOUVER - It was astonishing, the way Filipino singing champions Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Mark Bautista and Christian Bautista were welcomed with so much warmth by the people of Vancouver, B.C. in Canada last March 1. It was even more elating to find them performing on the stage of the Center for the Performing Arts in the heart of the city. Filled to capacity by an enthusiastic audience, the former home of such memorable productions as Sunset Boulevard and Ragtime, became witness to a rousing show.

Even more amazing was the fact that so many people turned out on what was truly a cold winter night to watch kids whom they had already seen before. And with many of them paying the top price of $100 for the choice seats. That was why the show was titled The Return of the Champions. All of the stars had already performed there during the past two or three years. But I have to say that the Fil-Canadians so enjoyed their earlier visits and decided not to miss this one. Given how much fun they had, I am very sure they will be there again for a third or fourth time.

To the Champions' credit, they spared nothing to give the audience their money's worth. I honestly lost count of the number of songs they performed given the fact that several were overlong medleys. But you know how Pinoys are, be they homegrown or Canada residents, the more songs they get, the more they love the show and they certainly got their fill during that evening.

Sarah's contribution in this regard was a medley of songs by Air Supply but even these big-selling pop standards were no match to her own hits. The crowd marveled over how much she sounded like Celine Dion, first in her duet of Tell Him with Rachelle Ann and later in her rendition of her award-winning piece, I'll Be Waiting for You which launched her to stardom. But the showstopper of them all was her Forever's Not Enough. It was here that the audience, who, by the way, could not help but ooh and aah at her gorgeous gowns, gave her a standing ovation.

Rachelle Ann was in fine voice throughout. It was also a special occasion of sorts for the Search for a Star champ because it marked the premiere of songs from her new album Rachelle Ann Rocks. The live recording has her doing rock favorites and it was most impressive to watch her put her own pop spin to REO Speedwagon's The Search is Over, Aerosmith's Crying and Amy Grant's That's What Love is For. There was of course a duet with Christian. Now, the love may have already ended for these two. But the chemistry definitely remains and their medley of heartbreaking Somewhere songs was most beautiful and one of the highlights of the evening.

Christian and Mark, the Bautista boys, although not in any way related, were both on top of their game. Christian was cute, bumbling and funny. Mark was sexy, sweet and also funny. His hot medley of dance tunes brought the house down.

I am sure that the champions wanted to spend their time basking in their Vancouver triumph, but this was not to be. They had to leave on an early morning trip to Edmonton the next day, Sunday, March 2 for another show. Then there came Calgary on March 7, Winnipeg on March 9, Toronto on March 14 and to end the Canada tour, Montreal on March 16. These dates will be followed by more stints in the US. These are San Jose in California on March 22, Houston, Texas on March 28 and Anaheim, also in California on March 29.

Kahit wala sa bansa si Sarah Geronimo, nagpapasalamat siya sa Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards na nagbigay ng recognition sa kanya as Best Female Performer. Ang concert king na si Martin Nievera ang kanyang male counterpart.

Kasalukuyang nasa US tour si Sarah kasama sina Rachelle Ann Go, Mark Bautista and Christian Bautista.

Maganda ang feedback ng kanilang concert particular na sa Winnipeg kung saan jampacked ang venue.

Anyway, kabilang si Sarah sa iilang local singer na nakapuno sa  Araneta last year. As in siksikan noon ang mga nanood ng kanyang Sarah Geronimo in Motion na super successful din nang mag-tour sa Amerika. Nasa video na ang nasabing concert.

Ayon pa sa Viva insider, malakas daw ngayon ang benta ng kanyang fourth album, Taking Flight at ngayon daw ay hataw sa music charts  ang mga kanta niyang I’ll Be Alright and Ikaw.

At alam n’yo ba na halos umabot ng 500,000 ang nag-view ng music video ni Sarah na How Could You Say You Love Me sa You Tube? Maging ang mga iba niyang music video ay ganundin karami ang number of visitors sa You Tube.

Kaya naman, nanatili siyang in demand as a singer hindi lang sa bansa kundi maging sa mga Pinoy sa abroad.

Sabi nga ng mga producer sa Amerika, hindi siya pinagsasawaan ng mga kababayan nating nasa ibang bansa. Maging dito sa atin ay favorite si Sarah ng karamihan dahil sa kanyang wholesome image bukod pa sa magaling na singer at actress.

Pagbalik naman from US and Canada, aasikasuhin niya ang pelikulang gagawin na co-prod ng Viva Films and Star Cinema.

Nagbo-bloom na rin siya as in lumabas na ang *** appeal niya. Kulang na lang ay boyfriend. Pero say nga ni Sarah, darating ang time na magkaka-boyfriend din siya at nag-promise siyang hindi niya naman ililihim.

Nakikipag-negotiate na si Mr. Vic del Rosario sa Star Cinema dahil ilang beses na ring naudlot ang launching movie niya dahil sa hectic schedule ni Sarah. Meron na silang hawak na script. Kaya after March, tuloy na tuloy na ang nasabing movie.

Sarah is big winner at MYX Awards

Viva singing star Sarah Geronimo emerged as the top winner in this year's MYX Music Awards. She copped Favorite Song for the Medwin Marfil composition, Ikaw, which is one of the cuts in her all original Filipino album Taking Flight. She was also named Favorite Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist of the Year and finally, the MYX Celebrity VJ of the Year.

Unfortunately though Sarah was not around to enjoy those glorious moments as she could not be at the Meralco Theater last March 26 when the MYX Awards ceremonies were held. She is currently on a tour of Canada and the US with fellow singing champions Rachelle Ann Go, Christian Bautista and Mark Bautista. However, thanks to new technology, the enterprising guys in MYX USA were able to shoot Sarah with her thank you speech.

Incidentally, there is big news coming up regarding Sarah's next recording. Reports have it that she will be staying behind in Los Angeles after the champions tour to record a duet with a cute member of one of the biggest boy bands in pop music history. The song will be included in her new album which has a July release date.

Now, since she is also on tour with Sarah, Rachelle Ann was also not able to accept her awards in person. These are for Best Mellow Video for her song Alam ng Ating Mga Puso from the album Obsession and for Pag-ibig Na Kaya, her duet with ex boyfriend Christian Bautista as Best Collaboration.

This is Rachelle Ann's second win in this Mellow category. She got the same two years ago for her recording of From The Start from the CD of the same title. Ironically though, despite these mellow awards, Rachelle Ann is set to turn rocker soon with the release of a new live-recorded album of rock classics next month.

Gary Valenciano, Mr. Energy himself became the recipient of the MYX Magna Award. He comes on the heels of truly illustrious predecessors, namely Megastar Sharon Cuneta and the greatest trio ever to hit Pinoy pop music, the Apo Hiking Society.

And there is no question that Gary V, has indeed made his mark in Philippine music, not just because of the hits Sana Maulit Muli and Kailangan Kita or longevity in the business, he started out in the early '80s but as an example of what a esteemed, well-liked and disciplined performer should be.

Young singer Sarah Geronimo once again proved that she still reigns in the hearts of music enthusiasts as she bagged four awards at the 3rd MYX Music Awards held at Meralco Theater last Wednesday, March 26.

That evening was indeed one of Geronimo’s brightest nights as she named as the Favorite Artist, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ and her song "Ikaw" won the Favorite Song award.

The awards night was a huge success with all the stars in attendance, the venue was also packed with fans and supporters of both music artists and celebrity presenters.

The audience enjoyed the night as bands and solo performers wowed the crowd with their astounding numbers of their own original and most popular hits.

But before the awards were given to the winners the night started out with cocktails and a red carpet moment for artists and members of entertainment media, dressed in their best take on fashionable rock star style.

The night and the crowd stayed alive with the special performances by Sandwich, Julianne, controversial couple singer-composer Ogie Alcasid and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, sexy singing group The Kitty Girls and Nancy Jane.

The presenters such as Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate and endorser Jon Avila, actress Valerie Concepcion, actor Dingdong Dantes and ‘Racing Goddess’ Gaby de la Merced left the audience going wild.

Before the night ends everyone were ecstatic with the results of the prestigious music awards which was directed by Rowell Santiago.

But the most remarkable part of the night was when international artist, Filipinos’ gem Allan Pineda more popularly known as Apl De Ap of the popular hip hop group Black Eyed Peas presented one of the categories for the music awards and then afterward received a special citation for his unquestionable contribution to the music industry and to the country. Pineda arrived in Manila last March 25 just to attend the special event.
