Excited si Rachelle Ann Go  sa  kalalabasan ng kanyang first live  album, ang  Rachelle Rocks Live.
   
Hindi ito kagaya ng mga nauna niyang albums na ginawa sa isang studio, na kung magkamali man siya ng kanta o kaya ay magkaroon ng kaunting depekto ay maaaring ulitin para mapaganda.
   
Ang kanyang bagong album ay recorded live. Nagkaroon siya ng isang performance na tumagal  ng dalawang  oras.
   
Ang pagitan lang ng kanyang pagkanta ay ang kanyang pagbibihis  nang  minsan lang. Kaya ang songs sa album ay ginawa nang tuluy-tuloy.
   
Ang ginawa nila, kumu-ha sila ng isang venue,  ng isang banda at doon ay gumawa  ng performance si Ra-chelle at doon binuo ang kanyang unang live album.
   
Kinunan din  ‘yun  ng vi-deo at  ilalabas din nila  ito sa market.  Medyo mahuhuli  nga lang para bigyan muna ng pagkakataong makabenta  ang kanyang CD bago ang video album na  ‘yun.
  
 Pero, ang pakiusap nga  ni Rachelle, sana naman daw ay hindi mapirata agad  ang kanyang bagong album.
   
Kasi nga naman kung ma-pipirata agad iyon, malakas man ang benta ng album ay hindi siya magkakaroon ng kredito, dahil hindi  naman kabilang sa  sales ‘yung  benta mga pirata.
   
Kawawa rin  ang produ-cers na namumuhunan  nang malaki, gumagastos nang  hus-to para mahatiran tayo ng mahuhusay  na musika, ta-pos malulugi lang dahil napirata ang kanilang ginawang CD.
   
Mas kawawa naman ang singers, dahil nawawalan sila ng batayan  na  nag-hit ang kanilang mga album na siya namang basehan ng produ-cers ng mga concert  para
kunin  sila.

‘Rachelle Ann Rocks’: To hear is to believe

TO HEAR IS TO BELIEVE – And believe me, Rachelle Ann Go is a rocker, a very good one. That is after hearing her current Viva album, ‘Rachelle Ann Rocks Live.’ In this one, she puts aside her image as a balladeer, a singing champion.

For her fourth Viva album, Rachelle Ann felt a change in sound and pace was in order. She recorded the entire CD, 13 songs, in one sitting with a band. The session, which produced ‘Rachelle Ann Rocks Live’ was also filmed for future release in DVD. It was held at 19 East in Parañaque.

From hundreds of songs to choose from, 13 cuts made it to the album, mostly popularized by male artists or groups with male soloists; rearranged to suit Rachelle Ann’s style and their popularity among Filipino music lovers.

Leading the list is ‘Honestly’ by Harem Scarem, the first single release.

The others include: ‘No Rain’ by Blind Melon; ‘I Just Can’t Let Go’ by David Pack; ‘The Search is Over’ by Survivor; ‘This Ain’t a Love Song’ by Bon Jovi; ‘Cryin’ by Aerosmith; ‘That’s What Love is For’ by Amy Grant; ‘When You Love Someone’ by Bryan Adams; ‘Someone’ by Rembrandts; ‘Can’t Cry Hard Enough’ by the Williams Brothers; ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ by REO Speedwagon; ‘I Ain’t Miss You at All’ by John Waite; ‘2 Steps Behind’ by Def Leppard.

The line-up certainly departs from Rachelle Ann’s usual repertoire – on record and on concert stage.

Chances are ‘Rachelle Ann Rocks Live’ will figure prominently in next year’s MYX Music Awards.

RACHELLE PROUD OF NEW ALBUM

SINGING champ Rachelle Ann Go is proud of her latest album, “Rachelle Ann Rocks Live,” her fourth under Viva Records.  The recent recipient of MYX Music Awards for Best Collaboration for her duet with her ex-boyfriend Christian Bautista in (You and Me) We Wanted It All” and Best Mellow Video for the song “Alam ng Ating Mga Puso” from her 3rd album, “Obsession”.
   
The “Rachelle Ann Rocks Live”  is Rachelle Ann’s first live album  and was recorded live in one session at 19 East in Parañaque.  Thirteen songs were chosen out of over 200 titles mostly popularized by male pop-rocks artists or groups and these include “Honesly” by Harem Scarem (also the carrier single off the album), “No Rain” by Blind Melon, “I Just Can’t Let Go” by David Pack, “The Search if Over” by Amy Grant, “ “When You Love Someone” by Bryan Adams, “Someone” by the Rembrandts, “Can’t Cry Hard Enough” by the Williams Brothers, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon, “I Ain’t Missing You At All” by John Waite and “2 Steps Behind” by Def Leppard.  The album was produced by Alwyn Cruz and mixed and mastered by Luca Vittori and Nino Regalado.
   
Meanwhile, Rachelle will be doing the rounds in different malls and bars to promote the album.  On April 26, she will be in SM Taytay and at the Trinoma Park on April 30.  Come May 14, she will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe (Makati) and Ratsky in Quezon City on June 4.
   
Fresh from her nine-City U.S. tour with Sarah Geronimo, Christian Bautista and Mark Bautista, Rachelle faces another busy schedule ahead of her for the rest of the year.

Anything Can Happen

FRIENDS and fans of Christian Bautista and Rachelle Ann Go could not help but notice their “extra sweetness.” Their break-up a few months ago was followed by the usual intrigue and speculations, which rendered an immediate reconciliation remote.

But now, the two are seemingly on their way to a second wind. Christian and Rachelle Ann, together with Sarah Geronimo and Mark Bautista – all champions of singing contests – are part of the touring group Champions ng ASAP '08, which recently toured North America.

Christian clarified that there’s no official reconciliation yet but he is not ruling it out.

“Anything can happen now,” he said. “We're becoming good friends again. Okey uli kami, we're sweet. Kung pupunta uli kami dun [lovers again], then that's great.”

He added: “Lagi nga kaming niloloko ng audience, ‘O, kelan kayo magkakabalikan?' Kami naman ni Rachelle, tawa lang kami nang tawa. Basta, wala pa sa balikan na level. Just like I've said, anything is possible. We’ll see.”

He said he was relieved to learn from Rachelle Ann that she’s still unattached. “Merong time na tinanong ko siya kung meron na ba siyang bagong boyfriend, wala naman daw. Ang sabi ko lang, ‘Okey, good.' And I must admit, medyo na-relieved ako.”

Kampante si Rachelle Ann Go na tatanggapin ng kanyang mga fans ang bago niyang album na kaiba sa tatlong nauna niyang albums sa Viva Records. Sa halip na ballad, pop rock ang approach ng kanyang  Rachelle Ann Rocks Live, na ni-record ng live sa 19 East in Parañaque. In fairness, kering-keri nitong maging medyo rakista ang dating at binago ng konti ang boses para bumagay sa mga kantang kasama sa 13-track album niya.

Ang Honestly ng Harem Scarem ang carrier single ng album, pero ang The Search is Over ng Survivor ang kanyang favorite. Other songs in the album are No Rain, I Just Can't Let Go, When You Love Someone, Can't Cry Hard Enough at marami pang ibang sikat na mga kanta.

Kahit matagal ng break, si Christian Bautista pa rin ang itinatanong kay Rachelle, pero walang balikang nangyari sa kanila at wala pa rin siyang balak mag-boyfriend uli. Mahirap daw makahanap ng gaya sa ex niya na mabait, kaya sa career muna ang focus niya.

Thankful din si Rachelle na hindi nakasira sa friendship nila ni Christian ang pagpapalabas  ng official statement ng management nito tungkol sa kanilang break up. Dapat daw siya ang gumawa noon, pero ang kampo ng ex ang gumawa.

"Nagulat at nainis ako sa umpisa, lalo't ang daming nag-text sa akin na bakit daw gano'n, pero okey na ako. Hindi lang maiwasang magkailangan kami, pero wala na yun," say nito.

Ayaw sa intriga ni Rachelle, kaya hindi sinakyan ang isyung sa last concert na magkasama sila ni Sarah Geronimo, mas inalagaan ito mula sa gowns na isinuot, choice of songs at blocking. Samantalang siya'y hindi masyadong standout ang mga gown at pinahirapan pa sa blockings niya. Basta ang alam ni Rachelle, magkaibigan sila ni Sarah.

"Rachelle Ann Rocks Live" means that Search for a Star champion Rachelle Ann Go has undergone a surprising change of pace and sound for her fourth album. Rocks means the songs included are all pop-rock favorites. Live, on the other hand, means that Rachelle Ann recorded the entire CD in one sitting with a band. The session, which was also filmed for future release in DVD was held at 19 East in Parañaque.

Thirteen songs out of an initial list of two hundred titles made it to the final cut. Mostly popularized by male artists or groups with male soloists, these were chosen because they could easily be rearranged to suit Rachelle Ann’s style and their popularity among Filipino music lovers.

The sexy look has given way to something hard-edged and  offbeat.  Yes, Rachelle Ann Go has set aside the dainty earrings for big  hooped ones. She has traded the flowing dresses for a black leather jacket, the sexy sling-back pair of shoes for pointed black boots.

Is she giving the likes of Yeng Constantino a run for their money?  Rachelle Ann gives a knowing smile.

"Viva Records has decided to include rock in my repertoire," she explains. The shift, she adds, is not as drastic as one would think.  It will  not raise fans' eyebrows or make them think their idol has taken a 180-degree turn in her style.

After all, Rachelle Ann's repertoire of birit songs can easily lend itself to rock.

"I just have to resort to singing with a raspy voice, but not too raspy I end up ruining my vocal cords,"  Rachelle Ann goes on.

Thus, you hear her lapsing into a mean version of Bon Jovi's This Ain't a Love Song, Aerosmith's Cryin', Def Leppard's 2 Steps Behind and others in her new album, Rachelle Ann Rocks Live.

The gliding voice  is no more. In its place is a husky, more forceful sound; not as loud  as Aerosmith's or as jarring as  Jovi's  but definitely different from Rachelle Ann's original singing style.

The adjustment, though, is not as big as expected. You don't expect Rachelle Ann to morph into a Yeng Constantino overnight.

"I will go back to my birit style," she promises.

The 13 songs in the list, after all, were chosen from a field of 200 titles to suit Rachelle Ann's style.

And because a champion like her deserves a free hand in her album, Rachelle had the liberty to choose songs close to her heart.

"My favorite is When You Love Someone," she says. Coming from someone who has loved Christian Bautista well for close to two years, the choice doesn't come as a surprise.

Rachelle Ann  just came back from the US, with him and other fellow champions Sarah Geronimo and  Erik Santos.

Since  she saw her ex-boyfriend everyday during the concert series, Rachelle Ann had no time to miss Christian. Add to that the presence of Nigel, the Shi Tzu Christian gave her, and the black wrist band  also from her former boyfriend she loves to wear, and you know Rachelle Ann doesn't want to discard memories  of her past romance.

"It's hard to find a good guy these days," she admits.  "Many of them just play the field."

A new love, though, is not in Rachelle Ann's to-do list these days. Not when she's been scouting for a new house in Quezon City for the past one-and-a-half years.   Why not a condo unit, the way her other friends have done?

"I want  my family to live there with me.  And I want to design the house myself," she replies.

This craving for trying new things extends to Rachelle Ann's career.  She wants to experiment with a new sound by injecting light jazz ala Corinne Bailey Rae style in a future album.

"I just want to try a different style," she explains.

And, while she's at it, it won't do any harm if Rachelle can do her dream duet with her idol, Gary Valenciano. Imagine the Total Performer and Rachelle Ann teaming up in one hell of an upbeat number.  Rachelle Ann just can't wait.

A solo concert, she adds, will also be nice. She's performed in venues big and small, near and far with  fellow champions. It's about time Rachelle Ann enjoys the spotlight on her own.

Meanwhile, she  has her hands full with mall,  bars and club tours to promote Rachelle Ann Rocks Live, her fourth album.  She will be at Hard Rock Café on May 14 and Ratsky Morato on June 4.

About time we see the reinvented Rachelle Ann and judge for ourselves if her one big gamble will pay off.

Belter Rachelle Ann Go is making a name as a rockstar.

Thanks to her "Rachelle Ann Rocks Live," the singer proves to all and sundry that she can do something out of the box.

The 13-song album is a perfect vehicle for Rachelle to showcase her 'rockstar' persona.

Rachelle reinvented 90s' hits such as "No Rain" (Blind Melon), "Cryin’ (Aerosmith), "Can’t Cry Hard Enough" (Williams Brothers), "2 Steps Behind" (Def Leppard) and the carrier single "Honestly" (Harem Scarem) . Some others were older hits and valued as already classics: "The Search Is Over" (Survivor), "Missing You" (John Waite), and "Can’t Fight This Feeling" (Reo Speedwagon).

Other titles in the album are "This Ain’t A Love Song" (Bon Jovi), "Someone" (Rembrandts), ""When You Love Someone" (Bryan Adams), "I Just Can’t Let Go (David Pack), and "That’s What Love Is For" (Amy Grant).

The live package was recorded at 19 East Bar & Grill which has developed into a favorite venue for artists doing live records.

Rachelle deserves credit for coming out with a performance that still delivers her individuality; she is also able to add some spice to the already flavorful mix.

"I’m very excited to do something different. I’ve been wanting to do this for the longest time," she said in her live performance at Hardrock Café in Makati last Wednesday night.

Rachelle passes well the scrutiny for trying to make the songs hers. She did "Cryin" for encore.

Some of her best numbers last Wednesday were "Someone", "When You Love Someone" and "That’s What Love Is For."

Incidentally, Rachelle Ann was one of the top winners at the recent MYX Music Awards 2008. She won in two categories. Her second was for Alam Ng Ating Mga Puso, for Best Mellow Video. This is one of the cuts in her last album Obsession. This is Rachelle Ann's second win in the Best Mellow Video category. Her first was for From the Start, one of her big hits from her album of the same title two years ago.

Puno ang Hard Rock Café sa kick-off ng bar tour ni Rachelle Ann Go to promote her Rachelle Ann Rocks Live album last Wednesday evening.

Sa reaction ng tao, nagustuhan nila ang bagong album at performance ng dalaga na naging rakista pansamantala.
   
She opened her gig with her version of No Rain ng Blind Melon at sinundan niya ng I Ain’t Missing You at All ni John Waite at hooked na ang audience.         Hanggang sa last song ng dalaga’y pinalakpakan nang husto at may naki-sing-a-long pa.
   
Puwedeng-puwedeng rakista si Rachelle at ’di kami magugulat kung magre-release ang Viva Records ng Volume 2.

SINGING champ Rachelle Ann Go opened her live album bar tour at Hard Rock Cafe with John Waite’s I Ain’t Missing You at All recently. With pop rock cuts featured in her new album aptly titled Rachelle Ann Rocks under Viva Records, she triumphs with the new transition in her singing career. Her voice is in top shape matching an outfit which would have made her a lot sexier if a little skin were exposed.  “Masyado siyang balot na balot sa kanyang kasuotan,” a male from the audience commented. Nevertheless, we welcome the change.
    
At one point, Rachelle told the audience how she has moved on after breaking up with someone she loves (who else but Christian Bautista?).  Indeed she has, as she belted out songs that can be associated with her past love experiences like I Can’t Let You Go, Can’t Fight This Feeling and When You Love Someone. Her interpretations were full of hope that a new love would come her way, even without looking for one.
   
Meanwhile, catch Rachelle with another bar tour at Circle Cafe on May 21, Eastwood Central Plaza on May 24 and on May 30 at Bagaberde, Pasig.
   
Meanwhile, the platinum-bound album which has 13 popular songs will also be released on DVD. Chosen to be the first single release is Honesty by Harem Scarem. All songs were arranged by Nino Regalado who is also the musical director.

RACHELLE ANN ROCKS HARD ROCK

WE were at Rachelle Ann Go’s concert at Hard Rock Cafe last Wednesday and the place was bursting with people whose reaction to her reinvention of herself was so positive. All applauded heartily as  she dished out one rock song after another. The show is part of her bar tour to promote her new album, “Rachel Ann Rocks Live”, and the belter proved she can do rock with much flair and conviction.
   
She started her gig with her version of “No Rain” (originally by Blind Melon) and she quickly had the audience at the palm of her hand.  When she sang John Waite’s “I Ain’t Missing You”, she  had them totally under her spell. Take note  that most of the songs in her new album were first recorded by male vocalists. These were given new arrangements to  suit Rachelle Ann’s   individual style and since most of the songs are familiar to Pinoy music lovers, she got them hooked from start to finish when she did “Cryin’” (by Aerosmith) for an encore. The crowd even did some sing-along with her.
   
Personally, we were wishing she’d sing “The Search is Over” (Survivor) that night but she didn’t as it is, her best renditions for us then were “When You Love Someone” (Bryan Adams), “Honestly” (Harem Scarem), “That’s What Love Is For” (Amy Grant), and “Someone” (The Rembrandts).
   
We congratulated Rachelle after the show. “You’re a bonafide rock star now,” we told her.
   
“I’ve been wanting to do something like this for the longest time,” she says. “Talagang excited ako as it’s something different and I’m so thankful the audience liked it and they kept on asking for more.”
   
We told  her we wouldn’t be surprised if she’d later come up with a Volume 2 for her rock outing. You can still watch her do the show as she continues her bar tour at the Circle Cafe  on Morato Rotonda tonight, May 21 (9 p.m.), Eastwood Central Plaza on May 24 (9 p.m.), Bagaberde Pasig on May 30 (10 p.m.) and Bagaberde Roxas on June 13 (10 p.m.).
