    TATTLE

    * * *

DID you know na three years old pa lamang si Aiza when Vic, along with fellow Eat Bulaga hosts Joey and former Senator Tito Sotto, handpicked her from among the batang contestants for Miss Little Philippines to become one of their youngest co-hosts?

Kaya masasabing, Aiza practically grew up with them.

Nakita namin kung paanong ’di na siya lumaki,” nagbibirong saad ni Vic during the presscon for EK4. “At maniwala kayo o hindi, noon pa man, alam na naming ’di siya mapapaiba sa amin ni Joey when it comes to gender preference. Mas may eye siya for girls than boys.”

Kaya, if you want her to be your friend, you might as well take her for what she is.

And take her sa kanyang pagkatao is what her following do. Her current teleserye, Ysabella, on ABS-CBN, is doing well in the ratings game not just because of Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo and Derek Ramsey, but also because of her.

In EK4, Aiza’s role, though, is not full length. In between shooting of the movie, she had to tape not just for Ysabella, kung hindi marami pa siyang personal appearances to attend to.

“I just had to do Enteng …,” ani Aiza. “Otherwise, ’di ko mapi-feel na complete ang Christmas ko this year.”

    Re: Aiza Seguerra

    Mismatched pairing in ‘Enteng’

When Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon and former Senator Tito Sotto first saw then three-year-old Aiza Seguerra as a contestant in "Miss Little Philippines" in their long-time running noontime show, "Eat Bulaga," they knew already that she was destined to be a star.

Although Aiza didn’t win the title, she became the youngest host ever on local television. Happily, for the trio of Vic, Joey and Tito, Aiza didn’t fail them. She delivered.

In no time, she was the biggest child star after Niño Muhlach, known as local movies’ "Child Wonder." Mother Lily Monteverde got Aiza to star in Regal movies, which all emerged as blockbusters.

"But even that early, may ideya na kami ni Joey when it comes to her gender preference," Vic laughingly recalled, "Aba, bata pa, she shared our fondness for the opposite ***."

Now in her 20s, Aiza, in fairness, has never kept secret her gender preference. She may not flaunt it, but neither does she deny it. In fact, she has introduced her very pretty and loving girlfriend to friends.

Happily for Aiza, her fans have accepted her for who she is. No wonder, she is in demand as a singer and as an actress too, especially on television. She has a regular TV show on ABS CBN, the teleserye, "Ysabella," which co-stars her with Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo and Derek Ramsey.

In his entry to this year’s "Metro Manila Film Festival" (MMFF), "Enteng Kabisote 4: Okay Ka, Fairy Ko (The Beginning of a Legend)," Vic has again cast Aiza to play his daughter. She and Vic’s real-life son, Oyo Sotto, are siblings in the movie.

"Medyo magulo yata ang casting ng MMFF entry this year ni Bossing Vic," jokes a kibitzer.

"The last three ‘Enteng Kabisote’ movies, all MMFF entries, were blockbusters," said Vic. "Kaya I predict that this one, which will give the current moviegoers an idea how my character, Enteng Kabisote, who is now a legend, came to be, will follow the same path as the first three at the box-office.

"And we made sure na high tech ang special effects ng episode na ito. We also added new characters," he added.

Aside from Vic, Kristine, Aiza and Oyo, the "old" members in the cast are G Toengi, Ruby Rodriguez and Jose Manalo. The additions are Ian Veneracion, Ian de Leon, Francine Prieto, Candy Pangilinan, Caridad Sanchez and Peque Gallaga. Featured in special roles are Jomari Yllana, Cristine Reyes and Joey de Leon.

    ABOUT SHOWBIZ Ni Nitz Miralles
    Monday, December 3, 2007

    * * *

The Beginning of A Legend).

The truth has set Aiza free
    By Maridol Rañoa-Bismark
    Monday, December 10, 2007

Everybody loves a winner. The winner is adored, glorified, praised to high heavens. The non-winner is shunned, forgotten, ignored.

Ask Aiza Seguerra. When she lay low in the biz after  she reached the awkward stage (translation: The tween years when you’re no longer a child but not yet an adult), the fans dwindled, the screaming voices fell silent. And she felt crushed. It was too big a blow to handle at first.

But slowly, Aiza came to terms with it. She learned that those shrieks, those fawning looks are only as good as her last movie or TV show. That’s when she took a long, hard look at the situation and made up her mind.

“I learned not to expect anything anymore. I learned not to feel hurt when the fans are not that many anymore. There will always be someone younger, even better than you are,” she muses.

More than that, Aiza learned how to value her family more than her work. Not that she won’t give her career her shot. She does. Aiza doesn’t mind accepting low-paying gigs as long as she can strum her guitar and sing her favorite tunes. Aiza loves music so much, talent fee has become secondary to the high she gets as performer.

It’s just that from now on, she’s  putting her work second, her family first. This way, Aiza won’t feel bitter about sacrificing family time for work when the time comes.

Maybe it’s best that Aiza learned that lesson on the fleeting ways of fame early on. It’s keeping her grounded, now that she’s enjoying an unexpected second wind in her career as a singer and stage performer.

Aiza plays real-life character Gary Coleman (Diff’rent Strokes) in Atlantis Productions’ restaging of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Avenue Q from  Dec. 14 to 23 at RCBC Plaza.

Like Coleman, Aiza is a former child star. And just like her character, Aiza did not lose her confidence when the screaming and shrieking grew fainter and fainter for a time. Unlike Coleman though, Aiza is happy with her family: Daddy ***, Mommy Caring and an adopted brother.

Her family has accepted her for what she is, warts and all. A worried Mommy Caring may have asked Aiza if she won’t end up lonely and forlorn someday because of her preference for someone of the  same ***. But when Aiza shook her head, the relieved mother said no more.

“I’m open to my parents,” Aiza relates. Their acceptance has emboldened Aiza to be herself even in public, to pull down the veil that has been hiding her true self. Of course, she had her initial fears. What if people won’t understand? What if they withdraw their support?

But Aiza told herself, “If my parents accepted me, why can’t the others?” The truth finally set her free when she agreed to pose on the cover of Icon Magazine with her girlfriend. No words needed to be said. Aiza let her actions speak for themselves. And luckily, the world didn’t start caving in on her career.

Mothers and grandmothers come up to Aiza and tell her how much they idolize her and that they have a child or granddaughter who acts just like her. Televiewers still continue to watch her show and listen to her songs (e.g. Para Lang Sa ‘Yo, theme song of the ABS-CBN soap Ysabella). Lovers of theater still watch her plays for Repertory Philippines.

The career debacle Aiza feared never came. Relieved, Aiza can never be more grateful.

“Today’s audience can divorce a performer’s personality from his job. Talent, for them, comes first.  Personality comes second,” says Aiza. Such maturity, she adds, is laudable.

Today, she can go to the mall with her girlfriend without being afraid people will stare and jeer. Aiza has even become a counselor of sorts for closet lesbians afraid to come out for fear of censure.

“Try to have your own keep,” she advises them.  “This way, you can stand on your own if your family fails to understand.”

The truth has set Aiza free. And the public appreciates her honesty and transparency. Perhaps this is why she’s still very much around, long after her contemporaries have settled down to a non-showbiz life.

Jose Mari Chan, one of the country’s top exponents in Philippine entertainment and showbiz singing icon will share his God-given golden voice to Tabontabonanons in a concert by May next year, to raise funds for the construction of the said church.

Help Fr. Bong build the Saint Anthony de Padua Church. Text or call him at 0927-837-5981 or at 0928-721-4199 for your cash donations.  Christmas is a time for giving and sharing. Give your share now.

Aiza Seguerra is a star, from the time she entered show business, she has captivated audiences with her wits and humour as a contestant of the 1987 Little Miss Philippines search at the noontime show Eat Bulaga. From then on she became a mainstay of the show. The she had Eh Kasi Bata, as one of her TV show.

With an awesome audience following, the child star began to venture in films where she began to win awards. She won the FAMAS Best Child Actress award three times, in 1989 for "Aso't Pusa," and again in 1991 and 1992 for "Okey Ka Fairy Ko" 1 and 2. Also in 1992 she won the Philippine Movie Press Club's Movie Child Performer of the Year award for "Aswang." Since then there was no looking back in her career, she did a total of 30 movies.

But it seems the child star would not stay on her acting career. She began to venture into a new "gift", singing, and her intuition about it was just right. In 2001, she released her debut album "Pagdating Ng Panahon" in 2001, and instantly it became a phenomenal hit. Her success spread like a wild fire in the international scene, she did a concert in the US and in Canada.

Though she was raking the fortune for her new found love, Aiza Seguerra did not totally quit on her acting and because of this in 2002 she received the Asian TV Award for Best Dramatic Performance by an Actress, for her role in a Maalaala Mo Kaya episode entitled “Songbook.” Then she continuously appears on the Enteng Kabisote movies from 2004 up to present.

While doing all of this Aiza, continues to hone her skills in music, she has collaborated with award winning singers and composers. Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," sung as a duet by Aiza and Ogie, became so popular that it was released as a single. The she did a revival of "What Matters Most" duet with Vic Sotto which was an instant hit. In 2004, Aiza ventured in a new business, she has teamed up with actor Andres de Real to buy the Naughty Strings Acoustic and Comedy in Quezon City.

Having said this, Dubai will have a night of treatment with the "gifted" acoustic star. She will serenade her kabayans and foreigner alike in an evening of love songs on Valentines Day.

Aiza, gagawa ng album sa Singapore!

    (RUEL MENDOZA)

"Time out muna ako sa mga TV shows.

Aiza Seguerra wears gown for "That's My Doc"

    By REYMA BUAN-DEVEZA

    abs-cbnNEWS.com

It's not her usual style. But former child star and singer Aiza Seguerra underwent a makeover and wore a gown for her special television guesting on ABS-CBN's "That's My Doc."

"I really don’t mind since the role requires it. I am glad that I will be able to entertain the people, especially the kids who follow the show," Seguerra said.

For the special episode, Tita Ocs (Nova Villa) and Cita (Pokwang) headed Seguerra’s makeover for barangay Tabuneknek’s Santacruzan.

But Seguerra refused to do it. And to avoid being part of the event, she pretended to have chicken pox.

She used the idea of having chicken pox after hearing Doc Aga (Aga Muhlach) teaching the kids about chicken pox immunization at the "Care Mo, Care Ko" Barangay Center.

Seguerra started out as a contestant in "Eat Bulaga's" Little Miss Philippines in 1987, after which she became a child star. After a few years of being in showbiz, her career went through a slowdown.

She made a comeback as a singer years later with her single "Pagdating ng Panahon."

Catch one of Seguerra's rare looks in Aga Muhlach's "That's My Doc" on its earlier timeslot this Saturday, May 10 at 6 p.m., after "Cinema FPJ: Da King on ABS-CBN.

    ***

This Saturday’s episode of "That’s My Doc" (6 to 6:45 p.m.) is more exciting and interesting because of the opening of the Barangay Center called Care Mo, Care Ko.

This project has long been a dream of Doc Aga (Aga Muhlach), as, he believes, it will help him and Greta (Lara Quigaman, who plays a nurse) to teach the children of Tabuneknek about good health.

Major Ret (Roderick Paulate), however, wants to get credit for the center, as he claims he offered his former sports store to be the site for it.

The guest in this particular episode is Aiza Seguerra, who will play a Reyna Elena in a Santacruzan.

By the way, Aiza will soon record an album for a big recording company in Singapore.

The other members of the cast of "That’s My Doc," directed by Danni Caparas with Mark Gile as executive producer, are Bayani Agbayani, Pokwang, Nova Villa and child stars Celine Lim, Jairus Aquino, Sophia Barrs and Bronson

    AIZA, NAG-GOWN

At least I get to entertain people, especially kids who are watching," sabi ni Aiza.
