    Re: Aiza Seguerra

The sound of a girl in love
    By Bot Glorioso
    Friday, September 28, 2007

It's all over the album - that is, the feeling of love. From Para Lang Sa Yo, Walang Sayang, Sana Di Lang Puro Sana, I'll Be There For You, Sa Yo Lamang, Kasama, Persistent Rain, Mahagkan Kang Muli, Bakit Ako Mahihiya and to Wag Mong Iwan Ang Puso, Aiza Seguerra's latest album reflects her rhythmic take on love with a strumming of a guitar that adds intensity to the songs.

"The album is inspired by Ysabella that even if one is not familiar with the teleserye, it still makes for a good listening," Aiza says.

As Star Records' newest recording artist, Aiza returns to the music scene after four years with an album titled Para Lang Sa Yo. The distinct sound and the smooth voice that first gained admiration via her debut album Pagdating ng Panahon will again be heard. At 24, she didn't expect the following she would command in the local music scene. She was three when she started appearing in the limelight after winning first runner-up on Eat, Bulaga!'s Little Miss Philippines.

"I was seven when I realized na may tremolo pala ko. My mom enrolled me in voice lessons. I also took basic lessons in UP for two semesters," Aiza relates.

It was On My Own, a song in Les Miserables, which Aiza first learned to sing well. But it was only when she reached Grade Six that she totally immersed herself in  singing and started learning the guitar.

Now, she already has several awards as recording artist. She received quintuple platinum record awards with the Moy Ortiz and Edith Gallardo's composition Pagdating ng Panahon from where she gets royalty pay to this day. Aiza also has gold record awards. There's  something about the way Aiza renders a song that endears listeners to her voice.

"Whenever I perform I always keep in mind the meaning of the song to give the right emotion. I'd rather let the listeners' reactions  be based on the song rather than the performer," Aiza says.

Of the songs in her latest album, Aiza could best relate to Sa Yo Lamang and I'll Be There For You as the  lyrics perfectly fit her. The former conveys an endless love while the latter implies that she's always there whatever happens. Bakit Ako Mahihiya is the most challenging for her.

"Didith Reyes rendered Bakit Ako Mahihiya  perfectly, thereby leaving a mark on the listeners. I had a hard time delivering it my way without disappointing listeners," Aiza says.

Yet, no matter how careful and well-practised a singer is before a performance,  the unexpected sometimes  happens. Aiza turned red when she failed to croon some lines of the Rey Valera hit Maging Sino Ka Man during a concert with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra at the Philam Theater years back.

"It was my most unforgettable but I guess one has to experience everything to be better as a person and as a performer," Aiza says.

Since then, Aiza not just rehearses but also puts into heart everything she does. Her voice also easily fits in the musical play Avenue Q directed by Bobby Garcia. She feels blessed that everything is  coming up roses for her after a lull in her career. Even Jose Mari Chan, who she has worked with her in an album has nothing but praises for Aiza

"I'm happy in every aspect of my life," she says, referring  to her lovelife with a nonshowbiz girl named Chen who Aiza says is close to her parents.

Having a different sexual preference doesn't get in the way of Aiza's success. Instead, the public admires her more because of her candor. Besides, love makes Aiza croon songs with more pathos.

But did she render the songs in her new album the same way as she did in her debut release?

"Not anymore. I feel that when I do the same, my growth as a musician will come to a halt. I'd like to perform based on the style I thought best and at the same time endearing to listeners," Aiza explains. "It's good to make hits but I  believe that the growth of an artist is important, too."

Aiza Seguerra turns down Jason Abalos's offer to be her sperm donor

Masyadong makapal!" jokes Aiza Seguerra about Jason Abalos's offer to be the sperm donor for her baby.

That's for the record daw.

Lumabas man sila noon, group date daw 'yon.

Aiza Seguerra defends her girlfriend against detractors

It goes with it, e. Doon lang ako magsasalita," says Aiza Seguerra (left), who is very much involved with Chen Sarte (right).

It goes with it, e.

"Let's just put it this way: Nirerespeto nila ang decisions ko," sabi ni Aiza.

"That's not true," tanggi ni Aiza.

I refuse to dignify that question."

INSPIRED. It inhibits her from accepting other commitments na makakasagasa sa schedule ng taping.

"At least, pahinga naman ako," sabi niya. "Kaya nga ako natsismis ng ganyan because I was working so hard before, na napapanood ako sa iba't ibang gigs. I just want to work. Ganyan naman ako, ever since noong bata pa ako, sanay na ako sa pagtatrabaho, because I love what I'm doing. Hindi na lang dahil sa pera."

Aside from Ysabella, as part of its soundtrack ay ire-record ni Aiza ang "Para Lang sa 'Yo" na composition ni Jonathan Manalo. Magsisilbi itong sub-theme song nina Ysabella (Judy Ann Santos) at Andrew (Ryan Agoncillo).

"Kung ginagawan man kami ng intriga, it's just part of the teleserye.

    By: Nitz Miralles

In fairness, hindi umeksena ang dalaga at nakita lang ng press on her way to the restroom.

Aiza Seguerra: Focused on artistry and not in chasing another hit song

    By WALDEN SADIRI

Who wouldn’t want a hit song?

Almost all recording artists, whether new or old, dream of their hit song. Even if they already had hit songs, the chase for another one has always been their goal.

That’s not the case though with Aiza Seguerra. After her hit song "Pagdating Ng Panahon," the 24-year-old singer expresses that she is not looking for another "Pagdating Ng Panahon" type of a hit song. For her, every song she records has its own character and potential.

"I don’t search anymore for the next ‘Pagdating Ng Panahon’ because feeling ko kapag pinilit kong hanap-hanapin yun I’ll be sacrificing my growth as a musician...I think mas importante rin instead of a hit yung growth mo as an artist," she quipped.

She added that if she would always think of what her fans and recording label want everytime she records a song, then she’d be in the losing end.

"We should always meet halfway and dapat okay din sa akin. Naniniwala rin ako na okay magka-hit and hopefully yung audience ko nang nagsimula yung ‘Pagdating Ng Panahon’ kasama ko pa rin sila hanggang ngayon," wished the singer.

Her latest magnum opus is under Star Records entitled "Para Lang Sa ‘Yo: Songs Inspired by Ysabella." It contains 10 cuts with two bonus tracks, the full version of "Para Lang Sa ‘Yo" and the acoustic instrumental version of the same song. Her latest CD also contains the music video of the songs "Para Lang Sa ‘Yo" and "Walang Sayang."

The songs in her CD aside from "Para Lang Sa ‘Yo" and "Walang Sayang" are "Sana Di Lang Puro Sana," "I’ll Be There For You," "Sa ‘Yo Lamang," "Kasama," "Persistent Rain," "Mahagkan Kang Huli," "Huwag Mong Iwan Ang Puso" and the remake of "Bakit Ako Mahihiya" and one or more of them is a potential hit song.

"Maganda kasi yung mga laman ng album. Actually every song has its own story. This album is what ‘Ysabella’ is all about. Like may song kami ni Ate Juday and may songs para sa bawat character or story. It’s kind of a soundtrack but I guess kahit hindi ka nanunuod ng ‘Ysabella’ you’ll still get what it is about and magugustuhan as an album," she explained.

Like may song kami ni Ate Juday and may songs para sa bawat character or story. It’s kind of a soundtrack but I guess kahit hindi ka nanunuod ng ‘Ysabella’ you’ll still get what it is about and magugustuhan as an album," she explained.

According to her, "Ysabella" (now in its third chapter) was the reason she was offered an album by Star Records. Her character in the teleserye is an aspiring recording artist who keeps on singing and is then offered an album deal. And in real life, she was offered too a per album contract.

Her last album was four years ago. Though she has received offers from different record labels, they fizzled out. She was confident that Star Records was serious after they immediately had another meeting after their exploratory talks only days after.

Compared to her past albums from Vicor Music, "Para Lang Sa ‘Yo" is also the album she made in the shortest time. After their talks in July, she recorded in August and released it last September. She attributed it to the immediate availability of songs for her to sing.

Among her favorite cuts in her album are "Huwag Mong Iwan Ang Puso" which is the theme song of "Ysabella," "Sa Yo Lamang" and "I’ll Be There For You."

"Gusto ko na noon pa. It simply means na kahit anong mangyari nandyan ka lang lagi and ‘Sa Yo Lamang’ means na inaalay mo ang puso mo sa isang tao lang. In farness makaka-relate ka sa lahat," smiled Aiza.

It simply means na kahit anong mangyari nandyan ka lang lagi and ‘Sa Yo Lamang’ means na inaalay mo ang puso mo sa isang tao lang. In farness makaka-relate ka sa lahat," smiled Aiza.

Though she and her girlfriend has a special song in the album, listening to all the songs sounded that every cut holds a special meaning to her. And the album sounds like a venue for Aiza to pour out all her heartaches.

"Bawat kanta dapat kasi ma feel mo so it helps din na marami kang pinagdaanan sa buhay para malaman mo rin kung anong atake mo sa bawat kanta," she remarked.

feel mo so it helps din na marami kang pinagdaanan sa buhay para malaman mo rin kung anong atake mo sa bawat kanta," she remarked.

Feeling her songs is also her style when she renders them. She sings them with so much emotions that you would feel the song is her life’s story.

"When I sing iniisip ko yung kanta, what its lyrics is about and its message...that’s the reason my eyes are always closed when I sing. I don’t like my performance to be based on the reactions of the people...habang ginagawa ko yun ayaw ko, zone out sarili ko," revealed Aiza.

Aiza also has her own composition in the album entitled "Sana Di Lang Puro Sana." But as a songwriter, she doesn’t see herself composing nor coming out with an album with all of her compositions.

"Hindi pa ako ganung ka-confident with my writing skills. I would like that someday," she said.

We’re comfortable with each other.

    Aiza Seguerra reinvents acoustic songs

Just as Bossa Nova has remained with Sitti’s salvo, it looks like Aiza Seguerra is doing the same with acoustic music. In her first Star Records release, Para Lang Sa ‘Yo, as produced by Jonathan Manalo featuring songs inspired by the hit teleserye Ysabella, Aiza takes another trip to the guitar-driven genre that not only makes the heart sing, but puts it in romance mode. She seems to have taken her blockbuster song “Pagdating ng Panahon” and used it as a model for this CD’s collection of mellow and heartfelt songs. Every song is hit-quality and listening is a breeze. Aiza, with her collaborators, takes her music notches higher with a sincerity only found in artists true to their art. She is successful in reinventing acoustic music by putting a faint classic inflection to it.

The title track “Para Lang Sa ‘Yo” has four versions, namely, music video and acoustic version plus the bonus full version and acoustic instrumental, exploring the song’s possibilities to the fullest. “Sana Di Puro Lang Sana” is an upbeat version of the stylistic Seguerra sound. This is explored further in “Sa ‘Yo Lamang,” “Walang Sayang,” “Kasama” and “Wag Mong Iiwan ang Puso.” Starting with an embellished opening, “I’ll Be There For You” is a minimalist rendition of this Martin Nievera/Louie Ocampo composition. The soft orchestral arrangement gives it an endearing classic/pop quality. “Persistent Rain,” words by Cynthia Roque, uses rain as metaphor for the tears shed through living and loving. She takes Didith Reyes’ signature song “Bakit Ako Mahihiya (Interlude)” and makes it her own.

    Let the music play

The three new CDs featured today are by artists whose names have been “on the radar” for several years now. Luke Mejares first came to our notice as the lead vocalist of South Border (Mark II); while Natalie Imbruglia was the waif-like Australian songstress we all fell in love with in 1997. And if the name Aiza Seguerra conjures up the image of a moptop moppet who horsed around with Tito Vic and  Joey, and ruled the noontime airwaves more than a decade ago, expect a very pleasant surprise as she reinvents herself as a formidable acoustic artist.

Para Lang Sa Yo: Aiza Seguerra (Star Records). This is a collection of songs inspired by the teleserye Ysabella, and I may not be a nightly viewer of the TV show, but am just happy the CD came to life. I caught Aiza, acoustic guitar in hand, singing Someone To Watch Over Me on Eat, Bulaga! a few years back, and felt she was a major talent who just wasn’t getting the right notices as a singer/songwriter. Hopefully, the CD will go some way in rectifying that. There’s a cover of a Martin Nievera/Louie Ocampo standard, and a number of thoughtfully selected Tagalog ballads. In fact, if I have one reservation, it would be that the CD is, too, ballad-driven and doesn’t exhibit her wonderful choice of rearranged covers that you’ll discover if you catch her live act. Hers is a voice we describe as “ang lamig” in a good way.

Concert ni Aiza may repeat ngayong gabi

    By: Raymund Vargas

    GALA

    Timing
    Aiza, pare na ni Vic
    Rowena Agilada

Sa "EK4," ipakikita ’yung mga eksena when Aiza was about 3-and-a-half years old. Runner-up siya noon sa "Little Miss Philippines" ng "Eat Bulaga" kung saan na-ging mainstay siya at pinauso ang Aiza walk. ’Yung lakad-bibe, remember?
