    Pops minus Jomari in Boracay

    SOME writers saw Pops Fernandez in Boracay alone recently and quickly concluded that she has broken up with Jomari Yllana. “Kasi mag-isa lang siyang nag-e-emote sa beach at mukhang malungkot,” they say. “Kung sila pa talaga ni Jomari, di dapat lang na magkasama sila roon.”

    But Pops told a friend that this is simply not true. “Mag-isa lang si Pops as she was invited to perform in an event there na hindi naman talaga kasama si Jomari na nagkataon namang nasa States that time,” says our source. “And she wants to assure everyone na sila pa rin ni Jomari at hindi totoong wala na sila.”

    Why Jom wasn’t in Bora with Pipay

    MANILA, Philippines—Jomari Yllana laughs off rumors about splitting up with Pops Fernandez.

    “All is well between us,” he says. “I don’t know where that’s coming from.”

    Some people apparently jumped to that conclusion, just because Pipay was spotted in Boracay having fun with her girlfriends. Jom says, “I was supposed to be with Pipay at that 10th anniversary party of Boracay Regency. I was at the grand opening of Rapide La Union, so I couldn’t go with her.”

    Pipay’s not the type to do any mischief, actually.

    Jom is cool about her and Martin being on speaking terms again. “I respect them both as parents to their kids,” he says. “I’m glad they’re okay now. That’s very good for Robin and Ram.” He doesn’t mind, either, that Pipay celebrated Mother’s Day with Martin and the boys.

    Jom tells me, “I gave her a box of cookies on that special day. We have our own bonding time with her kids.” Bonding never turns into bondage for Pipay and Jom. They are secure about their relationship — in each other’s presence, and absence as well.

    Sa wala pa sugdi ang interview ni Pops Fernandez sa The Buzz niadtong Domingo, nagka-chika sila sa beteranang kolumnista sa Pang Masa nga si Cristy Fermin. Gipangutana kang Pops ang isyu mahitungod sa pagbulag nila ni Jomari Yllana, kung tinuod ba nga ang hinungdan sa iyang pagkamasulub-on karon mao ang pag-bulag nila sa aktor. Usa ka kusog nga katawa ang gibalos ni Pipay sa maong pangutana. Matud niini nga maayo pa ang ubang tawo tungod kay kahibalo pa mahitungod sa ilang break-up apan sila ni Jom wala.

    "Nakita kasi nila ako sa Boracay na nag-iisa lang. Hindi ko kasama si Jom. Siguro, nag-one plus one na sila dahil dun. Pero trabaho ang ipinunta ko dun, hindi naman bakasyon, alangan namang hanggang sa pagtatrabaho ko e magkasama pa rin kami?

    "Ganun naman kami ni Jom, nagrerespetohan kami, kapag may trabaho ako, he understands. Ako rin naman, ganun sa kanya, hindi ako humaharang sa mga ginagawa niya," pagpaklaro dayon ni Pops.

    Hangtod karon giingong solid pa gihapon ang ilang relasyon. Trabaho ra ang gapabulag kanila sa karon, apan abli gihapon ang ilang communication bisag naa siya sa laing nasud.

    "Kapag may work ako abroad, yun ang talagang hiwalay kami. But we text, we e-mail each other, we talk on the phone. Marami namang ways para maging buo ang communication namin.

    "Mahirap lang talaga dahil magkalayo kami, inaabot ako minsan nang two months abroad, ganun talaga, e. Kailangan naming magtrabaho dahil may mga responsibilities kaming pareho.

    "May mga anak ako, ang lalakas na nilang kumain!" gakatawa gihapong saysay ni Pipay.

    Pops shares her wisdom on motherhood

    If there are prevailing lessons that Concert Queen Pops Fernandez learned from her mom, Dulce Lucban, it’s being self-confident and strong. Despite having more of her father, Eddie Fernandez’s features, Pops was raised by her actress mom to be secure of her looks.“I think everybody is beautiful in their own little ways. Ever since bata ako, alam ko na iba ang beauty ko, (mas) kamukha ko si Papa,” she revealed. Dulce has always instilled in her that beauty takes on different forms and she never felt an ounce of insecurity.

     

    While growing up, Pops also admitted that her parents were strict but she didn’t take it against them. “We (referring to her siblings Joey, Edwin and Jocelyn) were so overprotected. I have to constantly understand where they’re coming from,” she said. However, Pops chose to raise her children, Ram and Robin, in almost the same way. “There is still that discipline tapos yung medyo pagka-strict but I try not to make them sakal. They have to grow up on their own,” she said.

     

    Pops, on the other hand, has had her share of trials and intrigues, very different from her mother. The most notable of these is probably her separation from ex-husband Martin Nievera. The break-up prompted Pops to raise her kids all by herself while taking care of a demanding singing career. She revealed that this is probably the reason why she felt a little jealous when she found out that her eldest son Ram already has a girlfriend. “Nung una medyo may selos factor kasi I’m not the only girl in his life,” the singer confessed. But it did not take Pops long to rationalize this situation. “Ang mga anak ko parati nila akong naiintindihan, (kaya) kailangan maintindihan ko rin ang sitwasyon nila.”
