MASARAP kausap si Sheryn Regis, Ian F. Masayahin kasi siya bukod pa sa her thick Cebuano accent is enough cause for laughter lalo’t when she starts enumerating her experiences while performing for The Filipino Channel (TFC). For example, nothing can compare raw to her encounter with a sheik, who offered her all the riches provided she agrees na sumama rito. Ang tanong daw niya: “For what?” “For a concert,” sagot daw ng sheik. Tanong uli ni Sheryn: “Who are my co-performers?” Sagot ng sheik: “You only.” Susog ni Sheryn: “But I’m married.” Buwelta ng sheik: “It doesn’t matter.” Ani Sheryn: “O, ’di ba, nakaloloka?” Heto pa raw ang “classic.” When she was first introduced to the sheik, sabi raw nito, gusto niya si Sheryn for his son.

SHERYN said she knows a lot about the royalties of Saudi Arabia dahil years ding nagtrabaho sa Middle East ang kanyang ama. On June 14 and 15, Sheryn will be back sa Middle East. She will sing for the Kapamilyas na nagtatrabaho sa Oman at Kuwait. On June 24, nasa United Kingdom naman siya with Sam Milby. She just did a series of mall tours in the Visayas ang Mindanao. Produced by Star Records, kasama sa nasabing third album ang awiting Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito, remake of Leah Navarro’s hit in the ’80s at theme song ng telenovelang Maria Flordeluna. Also included is her original composition, Pusong Lito. Sheryn is seen every Sunday in ASAP ’07. On June 24, her song will be featured in the Sunday afternoon program, Your Song, on ABS-CBN. Sheryn Regis, international-bound to visit Kapamilyas
Aside from being a mainstay in the Sunday variety show "ASAP ‘07," Sheryn has her hands full promoting her new album "The Modern Jukebox Collection" in the different provinces of the South, and this June, she will be going to the Middle East and UK for a series of concerts sponsored by The Filipino Channel (TFC) not only to promote her own album but as well as the Nagmamahal Kapamilya album which is the newest compilation album dedicated to the Global Pinoys. Growing up, Sheryn’s dad worked as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in the Middle East, so essentially, she understands what the other ‘Global Pinoys’ are going through. She knows how it pierces the heart of an OFW to be away from their families, alone in a foreign land, longing for their loved ones. And as we would have thought, the OFWs felt this emotion as ABS-CBN’s resident Powerbelter sung Dahil Nagmamahal, the theme song of the show Nagmamahal Kapamilya which is also part of the above-mentioned compilation album for the Global Pinoys. The program aims to bring closer and unite Global Pinoys to their relatives here in the Philippines. Having a soft spot for OFWs, Sheryn is excited to visit and give entertainment to her Kapamilya in the Middle East and UK, in a series of concerts sponsored by TFC. On June 8, 14 and 15, she will delight her fellow Pinoys in the Middle East, in Jordan, Oman and Kuwait respectively, and on June 24, her fellow Champions will miss her in "ASAP ‘07," for she will have her concert with Sam Milby in UK on that date. Even though Sheryn has a come a long way in the music industry, she remains to be the amiable person that her fans loved. In fact, she is currently enjoying her series of mall tours in Visayas and Mindanao, for the promotion of her third album under Star Records, which includes the song, Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito, a remake of Leah Navarro’s hit in the 80s. Also in the said album is the theme song of the new telenovela Maria Flordeluna and her latest single which is also her own composition entitled Pusong Lito. In between her stints abroad and promoting her album, Sheryn can be seen every Sunday in "ASAP ‘07." On June 24, her song "Ang Pag-Ibig Kong Ito" will be featured in the Sunday afternoon program "Your Song," on ABS-CBN. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2007061796058.html

Sheryn, Ronnie share something in common POPARAZZI By Nathalie M. Tomada Monday, June 18, 2007 If there’s anything that I covet from the lives of our performing artists, it is the free travel that comes along with performing abroad. Sheryn Regis, in a recent interview at Robinsons Place in Fuente Osmeña where she promoted her latest album “Modern Jukebox Collection” under Star Records, just came from a US solo tour. She was obviously lacking in shut-eye, but she was her usual perky self as she entertained fans. This Carcar native has lost count of the times she has performed before kababayans, not just in the US, but also all over the world. According to her road manager, Sheryn, whose voice we now always hear interpreting teleserye theme songs, is one of the most requested Pinoy performers by TFC subscribers. This June and July are particularly busy months for her. She is booked to perform before OFWs in several cities in the Middle East. Sheryn is literally going places. I also met another product of a singing contest-reality show, who at the time we interviewed him after a performance at SM City Cebu’s Entertainment Plaza, was nursing a hangover from his first-ever US trip. The excitement was understandable as upcoming singer Ronnie Liang was the first among his kin, both in his father’s and mother’s side, to have traveled to the US. He is also the first one in his family to have ever boarded an airplane. He remembers very well the nervousness when he was interviewed at the US embassy for a visa. “Akala ko di ako papasa. Kinabahan talaga ako. Pero Filipino pala ang officer, tapos nagpa-picture pa. Kilala niya pala kami,” he enthuses. As soon as they arrived, he said, “Nilanghap ko at nihigop ko talaga ang hangin. Naluha ako ng konti dahil sa tuwa at nakarating ako sa US.” What made his first ever trip abroad memorable was the warm reception, especially from TFC subscribers, who showered him with gifts—laptop, clothes, chocolates and dollars. Ronnie says not only is his wish to perform professionally has been materialized. His other lifelong dreams have come true as well. He now has a car of his own, and own album. He is also saving up, and a little more, it will be enough for the mortgage of their house in Pampanga. And this soft-spoken singer certainly deserves his good fortune. Amid controversies hounding his fellow Pinoy Dream Academy scholars, he has so far remained free of intrigue, with a former PDA teacher, choreographer to the stars Maribeth Bechara, likening him to a priest. He is wholesome, focused and disciplined. For someone who never had it easy in showbiz—from auditioning in acting roles over 100 times to getting booted out from a singing contest in another network prior to PDA—Ronnie says he intends to keep things this way. “Pangarap ko lang talaga ang iniisip ko,” he explains. Now, seems like a repeat US experience is in the offing for Ronnie. He is set to return to perform anew in more US states this July. Since classes have now started and the school year has kicked into high gear, let me just share here that Sheryn and Ronnie are proud to be college graduates. In a world where showbiz hopefuls get easily swayed by the promise of seemingly easy access to influence, power, wealth and fame, it is so easy to neglect education. It is refreshing to hear two people trumpeting the merits of education. Interestingly, like Sheryn Regis, Ronnie is also a holder of an Education degree. Ronnie says that had he not been in showbiz, he would be surely teaching. As for Sheryn, she says that education is empowering. “Naka-agi jud ko ug kalisod, walay kwarta, walay baon, working till 3am and preparing for school just a few hours after. But it was all worth it. Lahi ra jud ang naay college degree. It is important to be educated in this business. A college degree is something that I am and will always be proud to show off.” http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Entertainment&p=52&type=2&sec=126&aid=20070617191

OUT OF THE CLOSET ‘I enjoy being a girl’
By Bayani San Diego Jr. Inquirer Last updated 09:40pm (Mla time) 08/23/2007 MANILA, Philippines—Globe-trotting singing champ Sheryn Regis goes on shopping sprees whenever she tours, here or abroad. Apart from presents for her four-year-old daughter Sweety, Sheryn always brings home bags of goodies. (She has just arrived from Calgary, Canada, where she headlined two shows for the Philippine Tourism Authority. She’s a regular on the ABS-CBN variety show “ASAP” and has recorded “The Modern Jukebox Collection” CD for Star Records.) Dolls She owns exotic pieces from Russia and Thailand, but the most precious are her Barbies. Fellow champ Christian Bautista gave her an “American Idol” Barbie; “Star in a Million” batch mate Erik Santos, a California Barbie. From her most recent US trip, Sheryn acquired seven new dolls, one of them a Barbie Christmas 2007 edition. Gadgets A Chinese fan gifted her with a top-of-the-line cell phone. Sheryn recalls: “My brand-new cell phone had been stolen; so my fan replaced it with the same model. After doing a show in Dubai, a resident gave me another cell phone.” At home, she would usually be busy with the Nintendo or her Sony PlayStation 2. When she’s on the road, she lugs along a Sony PlayStation Portable, Panasonic Discman and iPod Nano. She keeps in touch with family and friends through her Toshiba M115 laptop. Clothes Practical Girl doesn’t hoard gowns and other bulky clothes. “I live in a condo,” she explains. “I don’t have space for my show clothes. Onstage I have to wear gowns and dresses, but when I’m not working, I prefer tees and jeans.” Shoes She’s not afraid to wear killer stilettos onstage since, barefoot, she stands only 4’11.” Her shoe collection can be described as diva-esque and ultra feminine, mostly glittery, strappy stilettos, in gold and jewel colors. Scents A current fave is Eclat d’Arpege by Lanvin. She also likes Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. Bags She’s a certified bag lady, with over two dozen totes in her cabinet. Her most prized possession is a white ruffled JLo. She also has a scarlet Coach, plus other bags in sultry animal prints and all shades of pink. “Pink is my favorite color,” she says. “It’s so girly.” Caps She owns Benetton baseball caps and a Louis Vuitton floppy hat. Of course, she also has hats from the Barbie and Disney Princess lines. http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entertainment/entertainment/view_article.php?article_id=84354

"This is my first time acting for Love Spell, siyempre po I wished for this. Ito po, mas mahaba-haba ang acting career ko dito. Thirteen weeks, sosyal! I'm very excited although hindi po ako naisali doon sa AVP because hindi pa po ako nakapag-shoot noon." Dinhi magamit ni Sheryn ang iyang "kakuwelahan." "Actually, nakaka-trabaho ko si Ate Sheryl [Cruz], natutuwa naman siya sa akin," niya pa atol sa presscon niadtong Lunes sa gabii. "It's really very nice and it's something na parang achievement kasi I wished for this. I told you before, I really wish for this. And now is the time that I'm going to show my talent to everybody-not only in singing but acting also." Pero it doesn't mean na mag-i-stay ako doon for good. Pero gusto ko pa rin po mag-stay forever dito sa business-I wanna sing, I wanna act po talaga." http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Showbiz&p=51&type=2&sec=144&aid=20071009184

Training the spotlight on Sheryn By Bot Glorioso Sunday, October 14, 2007 Being second choice is not all that bad. Sometimes, it turns out to be the better alternative and a good chance to show that talent waiting to be tapped. Ask Sheryn Regis and she will blurt a mouthful of thanks for training the spotlight on her, not just as a singer but as an actress as well.
"I've been waiting for this opportunity and it feels great to act again," Sheryn says. It was in 2005 when Sheryn started wishing for a show to bring out the actress in her. Her appearances on OK Fine Whatever, Bida si Mister, Bida si Misis or Nginiig were just icing on the cake. It is only now that she gets the chance to be part of a 13-week TV show. Sheryn plays the fairy godmother role initially meant for Pokwang on ABS-CBN's Lovespell: Cindy-Rella topbilled by Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. The Cebuana singer doesn't mind being second choice. She says, "I didn't just get to fulfill my dream. I also gained the trust of people who believe I can do what Pokwang can do." After all, before emerging first runner-up in the first season of Star in A Million in 2003, Sheryn was a stage actress in her native Cebu since age 14 and has already tasted how it was like to perform in musical plays in the US and Canada. She also took acting workshops with Gina Alajar and Leo Martinez. Still, Sheryn finds TV acting challenging since she finds some words hard to pronounce due to her Visayan accent and some lines difficult to understand. Her director and scriptwriter are ready to help her understand the dialogues better. And, like a diligent student willing to learn, the effort reflects in every scene of the show specifically those parts where Tagalog should be delivered straight. In Cindy-Rella, Sheryn plays dual roles as Fairy god Mama and Fairy god Mumu. The latter is a black fairy while the former is a singing, happy and Visayan fairy who will help Cindy-Rella (Kim) go to the 21st birthday party of Prince William (Be Bench finalist John James Uy). The fairy god Mama reminds Cindy-Rella that she should be home by midnight or else she will be back to her ordinary self. But the poor lass forgets the warning and her envious sisters and stepmom are bound to see the transformation. They throw her in a well which links the fairy tale world to the real world where she will find her modern-day prince (Gerald). "I enjoy every moment of the taping. I now get to play with stars I was just watching on TV," Sheryn quips. Does it mean a shift in career for her? "I'm happy that I also get to do what I wished for, but singing remains my priority. I'm just fortunate to enjoy both worlds. If acting won't last long, at least I've tried it but if given another chance I also want to do drama or comedy," Sheryn says. The petite singer also aims for a US immigrant visa as an option. "You'll never know what will happen, so it's better to prepare for the sake of the family," Sheryn states. Teaching, according to her, also fits her as she passed the licensure exam after graduating with a degree in BS Secondary Education major in English at Cebu Normal University. Sheryn was about to teach in an international school when her singing career came in. Co-star Pilita Corrales has nothing but praises for Sheryn. "She is one of my favorite singers since she started and she's got that distinct voice. Even if she's a bit short, her voice makes her very tall," notes Pilita. With a compliment coming from Asia's Queen of Songs, it makes Sheryn feel 10 feet tall indeed. (Lovespell: Cindy-Rella premieres today before The Buzz.) http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Entertainment&p=49&type=2&sec=31&aid=20071013164
