oh i see were you getting at.. you must be a nurse, yes i heard about corporate, pharma, travel nurses.. big bucks often times they have bigger salary than university professors!  i myself have a few friends in those field, in the corporate she adds its more relaxing..  sorry but i was just trying to make a point on why our government is not making an effort in making our motherland an industrialized nation.

again sorry for making nurses as one of the example.. it is only because thats one of the trend that our country is pushing not to mention the "supermaid" program of gloria! even my aunt who is by the way a nurse for 30 yrs at least, is saying that philippines should be venturing to engineering and research so we can play a more major role in the global economy.

the topic that i presume we are all trying to discuss here in this forum is how can we uplift, formulate plans and motivate our leaders and country men so that we can compete and become an industrialized nation not for us but for our children.

its not whether you're a corporate. pharma, home for the aged, or CSI nursing or clerk, small office secretaries to big CEO's secretaries it does not matter and to which is greater?  that as a  whole lot different and a broad subject, dont even want to touch it if i may add. for me its more on how you love your work and what is your goal in it, thats how i measure or define great.

to make everything short, which would you or your children want to hear from other nations, that we are an industrialized nation and that we are a good source of professors, researchers and engineers? or a nation that is a good source of health care  (nurses, care givers, pt,) customer service(call centers) and other jobs that are less wanted by other countries?

as i have stated in my previous post.. there is absolutely nothing wrong with OFW (that includes me) doing these jobs that is being thrown to us by these industrialized nations.. what im just trying to say is i hope our government would do something to somehow lessen this trend and focus more on sustainable develpment, as one of the poster here said..

"sila na ang pupunta sa atin para mag trabaho sa mga trabaho na ayaw natin"  :-)

nurses vs physicists or generaly speaking engineers for that matter? hmmm dont want to touch this even..

great minds would not want to become nurses or specially think less of nursing, my job or any other jobs.

    another imbicile comments....

    :-(

"great minds would not want to become nurses or specially think less of nursing, my job or any other jobs."

"to make everything short, which would you or your children want to hear from other nations, that we are an industrialized nation and that we are a good source of professors, researchers and engineers? or a nation that is a good source of health care  (nurses, care givers, pt,) customer service(call centers) and other jobs that are less wanted by other countries?"

here is your mistake again...nurses are professors and researchers too...who do you think the engineers ask about how to build a medical device that will be used by nurses? dont forget about scientists nurses and the informatics....

-scientist nurses? hehe thats cool..  are you refering to consultants? people who are being consulted by inventors, like Apple programers asking movie producers or web developers?

"bottom line, pls stop making stupid comparison among diff. professional jobs....there is no right/wrong answer!

-did i ever made personal (by personal i mean, bias or rude) comparisons about professions? was not i comparing or rather refering about how/why developed nations reached where they are now or why some of our brilliant countrymen go overseas?  are you not the one who is making a big fuzz out of this issue which by the way i think youre taking personally?

"maybe ask your self, which one do you prefer, the person who save your life or the one who created WII?

? is this the one your are talking about "stupid comparison?"

"not everyone can be a physicists, nurses, doctors, etc....but whenever you look at their license, it all says that they are all professionals....

i believe so too,  did i ever call them less?

"I have 2 brothers who are engineers, both PI grad, both top board passers...one worked in PLDT, his job is design....the project was successful but the gov't have no money...the designs they made were already obselete but still no money to even start to build it....another example, my father in law was sent here in the US to study missiles and advanced weaponry...when he returned to the phil....same thing, pi govt have no money to buy or even try to build one.... btw, that brother of mine that have 2 engr degree, went for his master...not in technology but into divinity(priesthood).....it is the calling...."

-exactly kabayan thats my point basing from your story you belong to the smart genes! thats what i've been trying to express here, our government should be tapping/supporting this precious resources! just like our neighboring countries japan and south korea! thats the key to surviving (research in the sciences and technological field!) in this 21st century! how developed nations reached where they are right now, history will speak for itself.

"same goes to me...I have 2 degrees...sports medicine and nursing...did i think about the money when I register to the university...nope..it is just my passion....the other one now works in at&t/comcast....mostly computers...cool...even his kids already knows how to use the comp and the internet by age 3, but whenever they are sick...they call us...."

your passion? then for me You are doing the right thing! (been always refering to our smart folks who wanted to do scientific and technological research but dont have the support from our government.) sick when they call you? isnt this a bit off? i mean every job is just as important are you not the one personally comparing?

"in the first place, if you wanna become a nurse just for the money...pls don't...you will just end up killing patients and even more will suffer...

:-) if its just for the money or if i think i can do more i could have taken a different path a long time ago.. my job does not pay much, at least for now, but this is what i want and im happy with it.

"to get back to your point,,,the answer is simple...jobs...no opportunities, these great minds will seek somewhere...."

yep!  again thats why our governement needs to do something about it! if we look at it closely we are actually in the same boat, for the betterment of our motherland,

its just somehow along the way you've taken parts of my lines personally..sorry.

    mabuhay po!

i think you need to read more about nursing informatics...these are nurses whoare computer programmers who design programs we use in the medical field. another one is the legal nurses, they are also lawyers...another one are the nurse practitioners, their functions are very much similar with doctors, they can even prescribe medications...

My point here is to further educate you more about nursing. It is not true that nursing is a kind of job that america does not want or even treat it like it is not a professional....again look at the license...or maybe watch the johnson and johson commercials. or maybe look into schools on how hard it is to get in the programs. I remember when I studied PT back home, most of my classmates are all top students from the school. you got to have the A grades. it is far from being a maid or secretary. plus i hate the ideology that doctors settle for nursing just for the money...it is an insult to the profession...first, how sure are they that they will become good nurses or even pass the nursing board...I know some doctors in the PI can't even pass the nursing board here...why? they think as a doctor and not as a nurse...and if they do pass the exam, it will be difficult for them to work as a nurse...

again being nurse is far more than just being smart...it is more about being compassionate. treat every individual equally and complete---Mind, Body, and Spirit....

Our job never ends from birth to the dying....Doctors cure but nurses care....we are the eyes and ears of the doctors, and we are the one who speaks for the patients and their family..."no more...Yes, doctor".....they are our partner....not our superior...

Re: why Some people do something rather than just criticize and point fingers.

there you go lawyers, computer programmers.. practically or rather mostly this guys dont do nursing job anymore..  programing is a whole lot of different field i believe you know that since one of your relatives is into it.. when i say nursing what i meant is by definition, which i know you know that already. cheers to those who ventures more!

you sound like im undermining your profession or other professions, did i ever do that? (its like spitting on my sis or relatives who are nurses) if i ever did it was even pointed at my profession :-( not that i despise my job, but i was thinking in just a little bit more bigger picture.. our countrys future is our main topic by the way.

even when i get sick i usually look up to nurses (specially the pretty ones! :-) ) the kind ones to be exact, because they are more hands on with their patient, more personal.

we both know nursing is hard and requires deligence but whats with the insecurities? its leading you to discriminate other jobs.. there are different levels of secretary (like the position they are fighting over in the apprentice show, some of this guys are in the ivy league)  just like in other professions.. some professions needs hardwork in school,  some professions needs skill and experience.. as what you have noticed here in the u.s  there's no top board passers hypes that happens across the country. i dont consider my job or other jobs superior to others.. its like a mr. moon comparing his duties to mr. sun :-)

as for the doctors who settles for nursing for money, specially doctors who graduated from a state  university in PI, they are f__kn insult to our country and most specially to themselves!!!

what i've been trying and trying to point out is our government needs to prepare for the future and the future is scientific and technological research! (its been often the key if not always in the advancement of countries, from east to west ..)  and it needs government and our support to fund  creative people in the science and tech field like your relatives to make this stability/dream/pride of our country and its citizen happen.

Beeranyways if you think nursing or other jobs that being thrown to us by developed nation is enough and the future of our nation, then our government should really support the sky rocketing increase of nursing schools maybe perhaps spend more on research in this field and raise the recruitment system into a higher level(malacanang) .. after all due to International demand even the japs, koreans and some chinese nationals are now thinking of putting a retirement city in our country they even rented a big island near palawan!

    mabuhay po tayo!

those i mentioned to you are specialty nurses, the same goes with my profession, although i am no longer doing bed side, i am still doing nursing. i just wanna point out the definition of professionals as the state requires....the same argument between BSN and associate nursing...both have the same license, just different years of schooling.

that's the fact, there is a shortage of nurses around the world, and we don't have enough professors and schools...this crisis is global, and good thing countries like PI and India are helping but still not enough...The point is, nurses are not given enough credit for what they do...

let me go back about the future of PI, i agree with you we need to support our healthcare schools and make sure that we have quality education, modern equipments, and newer practices (such as evidence based medicine)....

the same goes to the other field of education....PI gov't should invest more on sholarships, grants, and loans, so no kids will be left behind with no education...period!

even when i get sick i usually look up to nurses (specially the pretty ones! :-) )----too bad if I am assigened to you, you will get a 6'1" 290 lbs male nurse....hahahaha.....

I agree with the no ranking on the board...it will just open the door for discrimination....especially with nursing, since the questions are unique for the individual test takers (it is hard to cheat---then it is also computerized) and no practical exams....

hahaha....most americans prefer male nurses, especially the ladies...hehehe....the only thing i hate most is that i became the official massage therapists for the female nurses and doctors(residents)...actually, being a male nurse is an advantage when I worked in ICU and ER, we are just so cool with all the lifting and giving chest compressions...the patients are so behave....

here in Chicago, filams are so good with programs for the PI...but instead of giving fish, teach them how to fish and give them the tools to accomplish that...but when it comes to corruption...maingay kami dit but so much we can do...pipol sa pinas have to do more and say no to corruption! no to poverty!

    I second the motion!!

I have mentioned this before and I’ll say it again:

Why don’t we start saving up for 2010. So we can go back and meet to form our own political party with a platform of: NO MORE CORRUPTION, DOWN WITH OLIGARCHIES!

We can call our party the ROFWP (Returned Overseas Filipino Workers Party)

i seldom see 6'1 and 290 lbs nurses, these guys would often be professional athletes hehe.. but its an advantage too though cause you'll not have a hard time or even injure yourself in lifting patients, just recently a friend of mine got her back injured, shes been a nurse for decades now so i think it must be old age.

yes Lazzaluv  i hope all filipinos overseas should organize a massive reach out and unite to form a political party for the next presidential election! having the right people to head this campaign for major reformation of our politcal system.. im really positive we can win positions from local to national!

we can start with online networking here in the u.s then hopefully choose a leader maybe by next yr! we should set time frame and all..

anyways we can make this happen if we all unite!

    count me on this one!

there is really no use of trying to prove who's right or wrong, we all have the same objective ( i assume..) to make our country a more better place, stable, strong and more self sustaining!

humility is one of the key to our nations true progress, specially with us pinoy, a christian country. other than just exercising our fingers in the keyboards, we should really pause and ask ourselves in what way can we really do to help our ailing country..??

what legacy can we leave behind...?

HE HE HE....NAKIKITA NA NATIN PINAGLOLOKO TAYO AT NINANAKAWAN NG GLORIANG ITO MULA NG SIYA AY NAUPONG PRESIDENTE NG PILIPINAS NOONG 2001 AY WALA PA TAYONG GINAGAWANG SOLUTION MAGPAHANGGANG NGAYON. NGAYON SABIHIN NINYO SA AKIN KUNG SIYA AY ISANG MABUTING PRESIDENTE NA KARAMIHAN SA ATING MAMAMAYAN AY GUTOM. BAKIT NAGLABASAN ANG MGA ANOMALYANG CORRUPTION MAGMULA NG SIYA AY NANUNGKULAN PRESIDENTE. KUNG ISA SIYANG MABUTING PRESIDENTE AY WALA SANANG CORRUPTION NAGAGANAP NA HANGGANG NGAYON AY UNDER INVESTIGATION. ANG PROOF AY NANDIYAN NGUNIT HIGIT YATANG MAKAPANGYARIHAN ANG "SALAPI" (FILIPINO CULTURE) TAPALAN ANG "TRUTH" NA DAPAT LUMABAS SA GAPOS NG KASINUNGALINGAN. HINDI BA ALAM NG MGA PILIPINO NA KAPAG LUMABAS ANG "TRUTH" SA LAHAT NG ITINATAGONG KAWALANGHIYAAN AY DITO TAYO MAGSISIMULANG UMUNLAD SAPAGKAT HINDI NATIN PINAHIHINTULUTANG MAMAYANI ANG EVIL ACT.

ISA PA. KUNG MABUTING PRESIDENTE SI GLORIA AY DIN SANAY ANG NAKAKAMTAN NATING KABUHAYAN AY HEAD LINE SA NEWS THAT SAYING "WALANG PILIPINONG MAGUGUTOM". "WALANG PILIPINONG MANGINGIBANG BAYAN UPANG MAGPAALIPIN" "WALANG PILIPINONG PULUBI" WALANG MAGNANAKAW SA PAMAHALAAN" WALA NG BASTOS SA PAMAHALAAN" WALA NG PRESIDENTENG SINUNGALING, MANDARAYA AT MAGNANAKAW"

ITO ANG KULANG SA ATING PAGBABAGO. THE PRESIDENT SHOULD LEAD BY GOOD EXAMPLE TO ALL FILIPINOS.
