Metro firms cry out for ‘qualified’ manpower

Una, lahat ng mga skilled workers are abroad.. and you know the Reason, mas mataas sweldo abroad.. gusto kasi ng mga company sila lang yumaman.. dapat share din nila sa mga tao nila na magkaron ng decent life, giving them incentives, bonuses or itaas sweldo nila like every 6 months or 1 year.. dami kasi ako kakilala.. eh dun na tumanda.. eh di man lang tumaas sweldo nila..

I just want to comment on this part

Actually if you are a practical person... If being a call center agent earns you a better salary than practicing what you had in college you wouldn't mind that situation.

But potentially if your degree could earn you more than just being a call center employee...that's the time you lose...

From my experience those people in the situation mentioned above where likely those who didn't qualify enough to land in jobs using their degrees. But because they can speak english they contend to call centers than not to earn any.

Sadly truth is... Employers always want to hire the best they could get.

A way to avoid being in the losing situation?...Invest more of your time honing your skills when you are still at school.

With that you will become 'qualified'

Being a call center agent is a question of having fantastic English speaking skills - not technical knowhow - since call centers serve many different companies overseas. One company's product may be cell phones, another might be a hotel, while another may be an airline. The diversity is such that the only commonality is the ability to speak in English and relate to the customer at the other end of the line to understand his/her situation and offer a solution. Advanced degrees earned in school have no bearing on this type of job unless it was in psychology. Unfortunately, English skills are now in decline in our country due to the misguided "Filipino first" policies. As far as I know, there is not a great demand for Pilipino language tutors.
Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts.

Misguided "Filipino first" policies. There can be no better term for this. The nitwits in government obviously took the term "Filipino first" quite literally. So they promoted - no, they enforced - the implementation of Filipino as medium of instruction, without any holistic study on its effects. Obviously education was de-prioritized at the expense of other "more pressing issues" (pork barrel, parliamentary vs. presidential form of government, corruption, blah blah blah). So "Filipino first" was just a political slogan that really meant "Filipino politician's pockets first".
