    Hello from Sydney,

You have been to Manila twice.  Recently or long time ago?  What's your impression of the place,  may I ask?

    Hi,

I was in Manila last christmas. The previous trip was in January in 2004. I stayed in Tondo with family. My impression of Manila...Huge gap between rich and poor. Busy roads, and no road rules...Everyone is trying to leave the country. People are friendly, but sometimes hard to trust people. Lots of opportunities to improve the Philippines...I like it there..Would like to travel more in PHP

    Re: Manila

Philippines is a beautiful country no doubt about that. not everyone tries to leave the country as you observed when you were there. its just that the system of the govt. is poor in the implementation of the laws. Filipinos are the most nicest people living on earth  bcoz of their good morals and values . wherever they are, wherever they go, whoever people they meet  this traits and values are seen in them.

    Re: Manila

Not everyone wants to be an OFW, but I would say a large proportion of people between the ages of 18-30 are looking to work overseas.

Filipino's are very nice people, no doubt.

Like many governments around the world...they promise alot, but deliver very little.

For most filipinos, deployment to other country for a job is like taking a degree in college. whatever is in demand and have a substantial money factor they're into it. One more fact that foreigners should know about fiflipinos is their dedication and commitment to their work . filipinos with the age of 18 to ealry 20's prefer to work overseas  as dometic helpers, construction workers, nannies because they find these jobs more decent rather than ending up in clubs working as prostitutes, escorts, etc. and live a life that would cast them out of the society. foreigners should understand and learn more about the filipino culture and its morals and values because of christianity. The Philippines  has the biggest number of catholic christians entire Asia.

    Re: Manila

    Hi nmchattan.

In my opinion, there is really no such thing as a "pure filipino culture". Now, before anybody reacts violently to this, read on....

The history of the country has been interlaced with the arrival,  occupancy, and departure of several other cultures.... the spaniards, the japanese, and of course the americans. Also there is the long-standing relationship, based on trade, with our neigboring countries, like China, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The presence of all these cultures in our history has brought with it the assimilation of all this cultures into the filipino culture. So I would say, that the filipino culture as we know it today is an amalgamation of all the different cultures that have assimilated itself into our history. This unique blend of multi-cultural presence is unique in itself, and of which, I am proud to have.

Hope you get to discover and enjoy this unique multicultural blend.

    Re: Manila

i have lived off and on in the philippines for the past 15 years due to my husbands work, and it is a mans world there, yes women get household chores done for them, they can have beautiful nails, but its just so boring there, most people spend all there times in the shopping mails, and  then there is dealing with all the staffs problems, sometimes its just not worth it.   I agree that filipinos are  good, but they have been corrupted by all  of there  governments , and  you can  not always belief what they say, as they are scared to say  no, and believe me i have had some people work for me, who i have given so much too, and then  been robbed, when on home leave.

I cant see it ever changing , as the rich like to keep the poor poor, so  they can have there indulgent lifestyle, and there love of hollywood and fame is just so over the top. As i said if you are a man , then you get a lot more out of the country than a women

Traffic is terrible, air quality abismal, and poverty is a disgrace, especially when you go to the mails and see how the rich live, its disgusting
