To anyone interested,
I tried contacting the editor of the Filipino Reporter, since they were the first Filipino paper in the US, and I also contacted the Philippine Mission on 5th Ave, NYC, and I did not get any type of reply or hear of any involvement.
I even contacted this group - National Federation of Filipino American Associations, who were supposed to be part of that protest about Desperate Housewives.
Nothing.
It has been frustrating to try and generate some support for these poor people.
It's pretty sad when there is so much concern that comes out of the mouth of a career dead TV actress than the fate of exploited Filipino children.
In some ways, I understand, when I go home, there are so many children that beg so hard for anything to help them and their family get by - it is enough to make the strongest man cry.
But unlike these children, the twins were brought to another country, under the promise that separation would make them free and better. Instead they were used and exploited for a profit and left to the circumstances of an unfinished procedure.
It's frustrating trying to get some attention to this and feeling like nobody cares. But considering that I just heard that a friend, and a large number of filipinos, has finally came over to this country, sponsored by an 8 month visa by a hotel chain in the US - so they can clean rooms for wages barely making minimum - I have to wonder if this is the fate that our people and homeland are meant to have.
I know Life is hard back home and the government does nothing to fix it - just remain status quo and rely on the money sent back from overseas workers - it is kinda hard for anyone to care about the lives of two exploited children.
But you gotta try and stand for one thing to start to get somewhere, right?
