rocky.berbets: I think you need to check the info on "Kidd-Class" destroyers. First of all, they are not "AEGIS" capable ships but rather carry the NTU (New Threat Upgrade) system. NTU is NOT AEGIS at all. Sure they are a bit more capable than regular NTDS based destroyers. The first AEGIS capable ship ever launched is the USS Ticonderoga and it's a Cruiser not a destroyer.
You mentioned that the KIDD class destroyers are the equivalent to the Arleigh Burke class destroyers, that I can say is purely baseless. If you have access to Janes Fighting Ships, I strongly suggest to take a look at it again and see the difference between the two.
The JMSDF do not have 43 Spruance class destroyers... I say check your sources again.
Bro, check out the guided missile destroyer USS Shoup (Arleigh Burke-class). This is from Fleet Week in San Francisco CA last year:

This vessel was commissioned in 2004. There is a 5-inch gun mount forward (not seen here) that is completely automated and unmanned, i.e., controlled by computer from the CIC (combat information center). I am told the crew has a very high gunnery rating from the fleet meaning they have destroyed every target they have fired upon with this gun. There is also a CIWS gatling gun (the R2D2-like structure in the middle) for air defense. But the main armament are the 14 missile launchers (yes, I counted them) located aft which can fire tomahawk cruise, sea standard, asroc and harpoon antiship missiles while tracking multiple air, surface and subsurface targets from the CIC. The ASROC missiles are used to destroy submarines and have replaced the old depth charges from WW2. Curiously, there was even a small US marine detachment on board (10-man squad). They were armed to the teeth with camouflaged body armor, Beretta M9s and regulation M-4s when I went for a visit.
Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts.
