Ryan's talent fee bigger than Gary's?

    IF I KNOW
    By Aster Amoyo
    People's Journal

Despite his busy schedule preparing for his concert "Symphony of the Heart" to be held at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday, September 2, Gary Valenciano still took time out to drop by the press conference of the movie "Dubai" under Star Cinema to sing the theme song composed by Ogie Alcasid.

The haunting love song was rendered by Gary with so much feeling that the stars of the movie led by Aga Muhlach, Claudine, Barretto, John Lloyd Cruz, Michael de Mesa, Phoemela Barranda, and Pokwang, gave him a standing ovation after he sung the theme song. Aga even shouted 'more.'

His "Symphony of the Heart" concert is special for Gary V since this is the first time he would be doing a concert with an orchestra.

Produced by Star Records and ABS-CBN, the concert features as guest performers Erik Santos, Sheryn Regis, and his sons, Paolo and Gabriel Valenciano.

Aside from working with the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra, Gary is also working for the first time with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab as his musical director. It is also the first time he is performing with an 80-piece orchestra.

Gary V had been doing concerts ever since we can remember. We wonder how much is he paid kaya in doing concerts, like "Symphony of the Heart." Is it true that Mr. Ryan Cayabyab's talent fee is even bigger than that of Gary V?

Nothing is dangerous than falling or becoming laos and end up at the bottom it will never happen to Gary..maybe not!. I think Gary remember precisely in what business he was in and now it was his desires to pass that possessed talents of his to other young singers the Philippines had to this day.
I admired this man..he never made bad comments to anyone at least in public. He had some rivalry among competitive singers inspite of this he never put them down or utterred he can do better than them, even though he can in my observations. Whenever a new singers enter this musical industry, the competiveness among them increases.Gary doesn't treat this as a danger in his career..in fact he treat this as a respond to those with talents in singing to come out and grab those opportunities to make the musical industry progress..mahirap naman ung ikaw na lang palagi diba? One of his drawback in his career. I thought was for Gary unable to penetrate the international world of music recording..kac walang masyadong napapansin(noon pa) sa Pilipinas dahilan sa being a copycat..walang orihinal pati mga boses ay ginaya na..Gary is not one of them he is a model of his own works which influences these young singers (filipinos) especially..more power to you gary..keep up those good works..

Kahit na one month late para sa kanyang kaarawan noong August 6, isang birthday concert ang Symphony of the Heart ni Gary Valenciano bukas sa Araneta.

For the first time, makakasama niya ang 80-piece Philharmonic Orchestra kasama si Ryan Cayabyab as musical director. Last year niya pa binalak ito for his birthday concert at makakasama rin ang mga anak niya, sina Paolo at Gabriel.

Ang bonus tomorrow night at the Araneta: Erik Santos at Sheryn Regis.

STAR CIRCUIT By Ricky L. Calderon
    The Freeman 09/02/2005

For his concert tonight at the Araneta Coliseum titled "Symphony of the Heart," joining Gary Valenciano as his special guests are his two sons Paolo and Gabriel Valenciano. Paolo will do a song number while Gabriel will do a dance routine with his dad.

We had an interview with Gabriel at the Manila Genesis office the other day so we asked him if he ever gets nervous dancing with his dad.

"Siguro for a few minutes before I go onstage, I'd really get the jitters especially because Araneta Coliseum is such a big venue. But once I'm onstage, tuloy-tuloy na. I really love performing. Plus, I am dancing with my dad. We already know what we are going to do when we're onstage. He gives me the signals on what we are going to do next kaya I don't feel so nervous na," said the 17-year-old teenager who's very much like his dad in many ways.

Gabriel has been very vocal in saying he wants to follow in his dad's footsteps. He joined the new dance show "Club TV" on ABC 5 last June where he gets to do his thing on the dance floor and gets the chance to host as well.

"I want to perform. I want to make people happy. I want to do it not just for the money. No just for the fame or the spotlight. I just want to be like him," said Paolo. "To be like Gary V is very hard but to have Gary V as my dad is an advantage. Even if I could get even half of what he has achieved as a performer, I'd be very happy."

Gary V. denies leaving Universal for Star

    By JOJO P. PANALIGAN

Universal Records will always be my home," famed multi-media icon Gary Valenciano stressed to Manila Bulletin when asked if he is contemplating on switching allegiance to Star Records.

Speculations grew when Gary announced that his ABS-CBN-presented concert tonight at the Araneta Coliseum dubbed "Symphony of the Heart" also coincides with the release of an album under Star Records called "Pure Heart."

In the last couple of years, many Gary hit singles were from Star Cinema movie soundtracks as "How Did You Know," "Kailangan Kita" and "Because of You."

His latest, "Ikaw Lamang," the theme song for the upcoming Star Cinema flick, "Dubai," is being promoted alongside "Break Me" which is the banner single of the album "Soulful" which Gary, too, released under Universal Records just weeks ago.

ABS-CBN has also tapped Gary to do their new station jingle entitled "Lipad Ng Pangarap" which will be airing soon over the station in tribute to Overseas Filipino Workers.

"Let’s just say I am on loan," Gary explains. "Besides, it’s not as if the late Bella Tan, my boss at Universal Records, did not know of these career moves when she was still alive. In fact, she’s always been supportive of my artistic inclinations even if it means pursuing it outside my mother company. That’s how selfless Bella was. I have had her blessings for these from the start."

A concert that features top names in the OPM scene, "Symphony" sees Gary collaborating with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab in a full-length concert for the first time as well as his reunion with musical director Johnny Manahan. The repertoire consists strictly of OPM music rearranged for the 62-piece San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra that will be backing Gary tonight together with Powerplay Band.

Also featured are "Search for the Star" alumni Erik Santos and Sheryn Regis and Gary’s children, Paolo and Gabriel.

"This is my once in a lifetime concert," Gary enthuses. "That’s why even when it was supposedly meant to coincide with my birthday, we opted to move it to a latter date to ensure the quality of the show. It’s different when you hear your music rendered by an orchestra in that you can’t help but be carried away emotionally. You can just imagine how it will be tonight when we do it for real."

A number in "Symphony" that Gary is very excited about is "Victory" which was recently used in the South East Asian Games. Written by Gary as an instrumental, he himself will be conducting the orchestra for it tonight———yet another dream come true for the already accomplished superstar.

"Many of my songs as ‘Take Me Out of the Dark’ were written with an orchestra in mind," Gary reveals. "The only reason why it wasn’t rendered so is due to financial constraint such would incur. Now that I have the chance to do so, it will be vision fulfilled."

As spin off to "Symphony," Gary, too, collaborated on record with Ryan in the song "Kailan" contained in "Pure Heart." The only other time Gary recorded a song by the Maestro was in the 80’s namely "Once Upon A Life."

Gary, too, is in the thick of writing songs for other ABS talents as Mark Bautista and Christian Bautista "which I hope to finish one day."

Still, despite the preoccupation with ABS-CBN projects, the 41-year-old Awit and Aliw Award Hall of Famer (who had won seven times in the category of Best Male Performer in the former’s 18 years history) maintains that he has been kept busy by projects for Universal Records as usual.

Following "Soulful," Gary Valenciano will be releasing a studio album by end of this year under the label.

"Symphony of the Heart" is presented by Star Records and ABS-CBN and is a production of Manila Genesis Entertainment and GV Productions, Inc.

It is being sponsored by Bank of the Philippine Islands, BPI Family Savings Bank, Sennheiser Evolution, Yamaha, Essensuals Toni & Guy, Teriyaki Boy, Bagaberde, Red Box and the official media partners Manila Bulletin, 92.3 Joey Rhythms, 99.5 RT, 101.1 YES-FM, WRR 101.9, Energy-FM and 105.1 Crossover.

    Concert Review:
    Gary V. realizes a dream

    By LEAH C. SALTERIO

"A dream concert" is how Gary Valenciano describes "Symphony of the Heart," a major production mounted by ABS-CBN and Star Records yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum.

In his 22 years in the entertainment business, this was the first time he performed solo with a full orchestra. The San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra backed up Gary in all the songs he rendered, under the musical direction of maestro Ryan Cayabyab.

"It’s different when you hear the songs being played by a full orchestra," Gary enthused during an interview days before the concert. "I turned emotional when I heard the orchestra practicing my songs like ‘How Did You Know’ and ‘Once Upon a Life,’ the only song which Ryan wrote for me. People will hear a different side of me in this concert," he promised and went on to fulfill just that.

Gary has always managed to present something different in every concert, no matter how many countless performances he has done in the past. Watching a Gary V. show is like watching him for the first time. No two shows are ever the same and he never fails to wow the crowd with his boundless energy and consummate performance onstage.

"This was a brand-new experiment for me, but something I enjoyed so much," said Gary of his latest concert venture. "Each song was a highlight. Ryan adjusted to the Gary V. sound and that’s really something. I myself, was excited about the whole concept."

Gary was joined in "Symphony of the Heart" by singing newcomers Erik Santos and Sheryn Regis, two of the regular performers in ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime show, "ASAP ‘05," where Gary is one of the main hosts. Those who also performed with Gary onstage at the Big Dome were his sons Paolo and Gabriel Valenciano, who have their respective large chunks of followers, too.

With Paolo, Gary did a medley of Pinoy rock tunes. With Gabriel, Gary displayed his unmatched terpsichorean skills as they worked the stage in their upbeat numbers. Gary also did duets with Erik and Sheryn.

"Just imagining alone that I’ll be doing everything with a full orchestra has excited me already," Gary said. "And when I got on that stage with an entire orchestra backing me up, that was mind-boggling. My dream has become a reality."

Arrangements of the tunes for "Symphony of the Heart" were done by Lorrie Illustre, Mon Faustino and Mel Villena. "I took on the easier ones," Gary beams.

Gary also excitedly got to conduct the orchestra – for the first time, too – in "Victory," an instrumental piece which he wrote for the 2002 Southeast Asian Games. The song is included in his "Beyond Words" album. "I played the piano and the guitar, with the orchestra and it was wonderful," Gary says.

The Big Dome is not an alien ground for Gary. Some of his biggest, well-received and most memorable concerts were done in that venue. In 1984, then 19-year-old Gary packed Araneta Coliseum to the rafters, thus setting a record of sorts for an artist his age.

"It’s a place that is close to my heart," Gary allows. "It’s in the same spot where I’ve had many onstage triumphs and exhilarating experiences."

Twenty-two years in the business and Gary remains the same in his live performances, both here

Perhaps it’s because Gary is a selfless performer. Every time he sings, he never fails to share a part of himself to his audience. He is generous – to a fault. He can tirelessly perform for hours, giving all his energy onstage just to please an adoring crowd.

"Symphony of the Heart" was produced with Manila Genesis Entertainment and GV Productions as a benefit for Bantay Bata 163.

Martin na-miss ang concert ni Gary

    TATTLE
    Nel Alejandrino
    People's Tonight

SAYANG at wala si Martin Nievera (he's reportedly in Hollywood where he just hosted The World Music Awards) to watch Gary Valenciano's recent concert, Symphony of the Heart, at the Araneta Coliseum last Friday (Sept. 2).

He himself would have admitted that it is the best of Gary's (numerous concerts) and, perhaps, one of the best, too, ever mounted by a local singer. After all, it's not every singer who gets the chance to have, no less than, the San Miguel PhilHarmonic Orchestra (na pawang bago at expensive ang mga musical instruments) accompanying him and with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab conducting.

No wonder that Regine Velasquez reportedly volunteered to do a number with Gary. They sung together, The Prayer. It was just beautiful.

    * * *

But Gary's concert did not start perfectly well. Ang kasama naming si Salve A., entertainment editor ng PM (Pang-Masa) at assistant entertainment editor ng Pilipino Star Ngayon (PSN) kept commenting that Gary should be told to revise na his repertoire. Kung sabagay, after his opening number, Kailangan Kita (theme song of the Aga Muhlach-Claudine Barretto movie, Kailangan Kita), his other songs were so-so. I even forgot their titles, would you believe?

The appearance of new concert artist Erik Santos and Sheryn Regis (who looked like a bride in her all-white gown, this from Salve A again) proved of no help.

In any case, I would advise these young neophyte (na singers) to avoid singing an original song with the singer who popularized it, dahil tiyak mabubukong they cannot yet hold a candle with him or her.

    * * *

The concert started to gain momentum when Gary shared a dance number with son, Gabriel, who is as gifted dancer as his father. But the boy should be advised to create his own style (of dancing), para di masabing he's just his Dad's clone.

In any case, from then on, there was no turning back for Gary. Lahat na ng kanyang numbers ay pinakawalan ay pinalakpakan ng masigabo ng audience. Lalo't the popular ones, including his latest single, Ikaw Lamang (theme song of the movie, Dubai, starring Aga and Claudine).

When Gary sung Sana Maulit Muli (another title of a movie starring Aga and Lea Salonga), we had goose pimples (and I guess everyone else in the audience). It was Gary himself accompany himself at the piano and he was assisted by the SMPHO. Ang galing!

He also tried conducting the orchestra, with Maestro Ryan's blessings. It was a riot as he did some comedy acts, too. To the pleasant surprise of the audience.

A thunderous applause reverberated when his elder son, Paolo, surfaced onstage and did some alternative numbers with him. My, they are a team to watch.

In an interview, however, Gary revealed it's his daughter, Kiana, 13, who's really the singer in the family. Aside from him, of course, and wife Angeli (nee Pangilinan), who was once a member of the popular group, Music and Magic.

But the tour de force of the concert was when Gary sung Freddie Aguilar's Anak, in all its international version, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and English. And in Tagalog, too.

This was when the audience stood up to pay him an homage.

I told myself I'll not forgive Gary if in the entire concert he would not sing, How Did You Know (theme song of another Aga movie, All My Life, with Kristine Hermosa). When he did, nakumpleto talaga ang evening ko.

Thank you, Gary, for a truly enchanted evening.

    * * *

Sidelights (of Gary's concert): The look of love was all over the faces of Andeng Bautista, younger sister of Senator Bong Revilla, and her fiancé, Junjun Ynares, son of Rizal Governor Ito Ynares, as they watched the concert. They were with good friend, popular couturier-designer Paul Cabral.

In the audience were some of the top people of ABS-CBN, such as Deo Endrinal, Chit Guerrero, Leah Salterio and Joanna Santos. Gary also personally thanked Star Records big boss, Annabelle Regalado.

Among Gary's fellow co-hosts of ASAP who were at the concert and whose names he kept mentioning were Jerome Sala, Kuh Ledesma and Piolo Pascual.
