MANILA, Philippines―Rachel Ann Go and Jed Madela were spotted together at Beyonce’s concert. Where was Shin’s (pet name of Rachel) BF Christian Bautista? Maybe it was just a friendly date. But what’s this I heard from somebody privy to Jed’s affairs that he and Shin have an on and off relationship?

“As far as I know 2006 pa sila secret lovers. But Jed was advised to stay away because the Christian-Rachel team-up was being groomed then,” my source revealed. “During Rachel’s birthday concert in August last year, where Jed was the scriptwriter, he told her to make a stand once and for all. But di nakaya ni Rachel the pressure so she arrived with Christian. Jed felt like a fool that night. He hanged out with Shin’s family instead.”

I texted Christian but got no reply. As for Rachel, she would rather not comment on the issue for now.

Is it just a love team/love scheme thing for Christian and Shin? And a case of OPM for Jed and Shin? OPM meaning On Pag Magkasama, Off Pag Magkahiwalay.

On the rocks nga ngayon ang relationship nina Rachell at Christian dahil sa pag-eksena nitong si Jed.

Sa totoo lang, true talaga ang romance ng nasabing lovers, na nasira lang dahil hindi kinaya ang pagsulpot ni Jed.

Say sa tsika, ‘charing’ lang ang pagkaka-link ni Jed kay Shin (Rachell ) para raw ma-erase ang gay issue sa kanya.

May nakapagsabi kasi na may umaagos na dugo ng ‘kabadingan’ itong si Jed na ‘happy’ ang lovelife dahil sa kanyang boyfriend na foreigner.

Although it may seem like the easiest thing to do, making a Christmas album is actually a very difficult undertaking.

A veritable gold mine of materials might be available for use and most of them are in public domain, which means there are no composers to pay, but the recording process is something else.

You need the best people you can get.

That means the best producers, arrangers, musicians, engineers, etc. because a Christmas album is not here today, gone tomorrow.

It has to stand up to repeated plays year after year after year and I do feel sad for albums that do not make it to the second or third Christmas celebration.

But even if you are lucky to have the resources to hire the best I still believe that the outcome really depends not only on the artistry and know-how of the people involved, but in their frames of mind. They have to have the heart, the belief in Christmas.

That way, they will have the spirit and this will shine through in the songs and it will make the music sparkle, filled as it is with joy and goodwill.

I used to wonder why creativity and technical quality being equal, some Christmas recordings sparkle more than others and I came to that answer.

Check out the CDs that you listen to every year.

Do they put you in the Christmas mood? Do you suddenly long to be nicer, to give and give more and although I know it sounds materialistic, also to shop more and more? Then I am sure you will also come to the same conclusion.

Singing champion Jed Madela must have a surfeit of Christmas spirit.

His album, titled The Voice of Christmas, fulfills those expectations.

It is well thought-out, well-produced and has just the right amount of surprises to be interesting.

Jed's clear choirboy tones is just right for the music and he has chosen songs that suit him best.

He opens with a rousing medley of the traditional carols Joy to the World, Good King Wenceslas, O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

This sets the stage for the joyous celebration of songs that follows and all of a sudden, it feels like a happy Christmas morning.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Jose Mari Chan's A Perfect Christmas, My Grown-up Christmas List where he duets with Regine Velasquez, O Holy Night, Give Love on Christmas Day, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, White Christmas, What are You Doing New Year's Eve, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), I'll Be Home for Christmas, Merry Christmas Darling and the only Tagalog song in the CD, Jimmy Borja's Sana Ngayong Pasko.

I like the way he does Merry Christmas Darling as a happy statement of love.

Local singers tend to do this as sad, sad, sad, hang dog style. I like the jazzy feel of his What are You Doing New Year's Eve which shows his respect for and familiarity with the standards. How great that he decided to include It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

This song made the Johnny Mathis album one of the best ever and Jed's version is up to par.

It was also daring of him to include Sana Ngayong Pasko despite the excellent original version by Ariel Rivera.

Now just one gripe about the whole package.

Jed probably learned The Christmas Song by listening to the first version recorded by Nat King Cole.

And so he sings..."and every mother's child is gonna spy to see if reindeers really know how to fly..."

But what the heck?

Who cares about reindeer or reindeers? Rudolf and friends are not likely to complain.

Jed's The Voice of Christmas is a great album.

Stars at SM Muntinlupa opening

Shoppers expectedly got star–struck at the SM Supercenter Muntinlupa opening yesterday. Because the opening weekend was packed with great entertainment from some of the country’s most popular celebrities.

When the mall doors opened at 10 a.m., the first wave of shoppers were welcomed by music from the Muntinglupa City Brass Band and the rhythmic moves of Ati-Atihan dancers. It’s like the circus coming to town as stilt walkers, jugglers, and mimes performed their breathtaking stunts.

Fans of the popular reality show "Pinoy Big Brother" were given a big treat when stars of PBB Season 2 invaded SM City Muntinlupa’s Event Center at 11 a.m. Wendy Valdez, Bruce Quebral, Bodie Cruz, and Saicy Aguilar excited everyone with their presence.

It’s a Grand Fans’ Day for admirers of award–winning hunk Dennis Trillo at the Event Center at 3 p.m. The Freestyle Band capped off the starstudded day with a performance of choice cuts from "Back at the Yard," their newest album.

Mallgoers can expect more fun and suprises today, Nov. 17, as the Storyland Band, Ati-Atihan dancers, stilt walkers, jugglers, and mimes continue to entertain shoppers at the Supercenter’s main entrance.

Every minute spent at SM Supercenter Muntinglupa will give one a chance for a star encounter. GMA-7’s popular heartthrob Dingdong Dantes will mesmerize his fans during their Grand Fans Day at 11 a.m at the Events Center. Meet and greet Dingdong as he signs autographs and has souvenir photos taken with fans.

It’s a winning day as "Grand Champion of the World" Jed Madela and Pinoy Dream Academy Scholar Ronnie Liang sing their latest songs as part of Universal Record’s album tour at 5 p.m. "La Vendetta" star and GMA Records artist Jennylyn Mercado will launch her album "Letting Go" with a title track of "The Art of Letting Go" at 6 p.m.

What better way to end a fabulous day than by witnessing the dazzling Fireworks Display by LF Fireworks at the roofdeck at 7 p.m.

Three months after he launched his third album under Universal Records, Jed Madela's Only Human has turned Gold (and is well on its way to Platinum). Last October 30, the overall grand champion singer of the 2005 World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) released another awesome album for the holidays. Jed Madela's first Christmas album under Universal Records is called The Voice of Christmas.

The 13-track album contains Jed's renditions of the classic Yuletide songs "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "Give Love On Christmas Day," "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year," "White Christmas," "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve," "The Christmas Song," "I'll Be Home For Christmas," "Merry Christmas Darling," and "Sana Ngayong Pasko."

According to Jed, his Christmas album "displays the versatile side of me, it was the unusual arrangements of every piece that demanded me to interpret the songs with a new flavor.

"I have been so used to hearing the song "Merry Christmas Darling" in a lullaby form. Mine was done in rhythm and blues...and I liked it! Also, "The Christmas Song" has a bossa feel...the big band in "White Christmas"...but my favorites in the album are "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and "O Holy Night" because of its classic sound," explains Jed.

The champion singer is deeply grateful to Jose Mari Chan for allowing him to record his version of the original piece, "A Perfect Christmas."

"I really took gold care of his work that I didn't want the original work changed too much, as we usually do in remaking a song," says the ASAP '07 mainstay.

Jed is also grateful to Regine Velasquez for doing a duet with him in the Christmas album for the song "My Grown Up Christmas List."

The Voice of Christmas has 13 cuts of classic Christmas songs that you never get tired of hearing year after year as we celebrate the holidays. Jed reminds the public, "We must not forget the reason why we are celebrating Christmas...our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Real ‘Voice of Christmas.'"
